2. Changing polymer pellets.
Hunting for polymer products.
Comparing the viscosity of liquids.
Testing the strength of different polymer films.
Designing a humidity sensor.
Watch your baby chair.
3. • polymers are long-chain molecules made of
Small repeating molecules , called monomers.
• The polymers divides into two Poly means
Many and Mers means unite.
4.
5. changing polymers pellets
When we put the polyacrylamide pellets in a
plain water it absorbs the water and the weight increased
When we put the polymers in a salt water it
released the water and the weight decreased
6. • The polyacrylamide pellets has the ability
To absorb water and to release it when
placed in a salt water by diffusion
7.
8. • We searched on the internet for different type of
polymer products.
• We found that there is natural and synthetic
polymers.
11. We have predicted the viscosity of three liquids
(methanol , ethylene glycol , glycerol):
1- Glycerol has highest viscosity.
2- Ethylene glycol has middle viscosity.
3- Methanol has the lowest viscosity.
• Viscosity : the resistance of a liquid to flow.
12. • We learned that the viscosity is the
resistance of a liquid to flow and polymers can
be added to liquids to make them more viscous.
13.
14. we will cast films of poly( vinylacetate )
that vary in the molecular weight of the
polymer then we will compare some of
the properties of the films
:we will test the tensile (stretching)
strength of the three polymers films we
made in part A
15. • Polyvinylacetate M.wt 260000 has the highest
tensile strength while Polyvinylacetate M.wt
100000 has the lowest tensile strength.
16. • As the molecular weight increases , the
tensile strength increases.
17.
18. • We designed a humidity sensor made of
the polymer (polyvinylacetate) M.wt 100.000
• We added cobalt chloride as an
indicator which change its color
from blue to pink in humid environment.
19. • The humidity sensor changes in color from
blue to pink within 10 minutes.
21. Introduction and Rationale:
Over crowded toilets.
It’s hard for the mother to bring in the stroller.
It’s hard for the mother to watch her baby while she
uses the toilet.
We found out that watch your baby chair is the
solution.
22. 1-The project provides more space
2-Reduces the crowdedness and it
makes it easier for the mother to watch
her baby.
23. 1. The chair is made with high density polyethylene
2. It is fixed on the backside of the toilet door.
3. It is foldable.
4. The baby is secured on the chair with safety belt.
24. •This baby chair will provide more space inside the toilet
area.
•It will help mothers monitor their children while using the
toilet.
•The baby chair was tested to secure child safety.
25. • We recommend that the baby
chair would be used in public toilets
26. • We learned the importance of cooperation and team work
• We learned more facts about polymers
• We learned hoe to solve issues through thinking outside the
box .
• Through our participation in Al-bairaq competition , we
managed to overcome our fears.
27. Many thanks to my teachers, school and AL-Bairaq team from
Center for Advanced Materials (CAM), Qatar University for
supporting us during our journey with a AL-Bairaq.
Also, I would like to thank the sponsors UNESCO, Qatar National
Commission, Ras Gas and Shell.
