City Strike
Audience:
My target audience for my game was teenage men although it can be enjoyed by any gender. I
wanted to make a fighting game as it would appeal to a teenage audience, the main reason that I
thought a fighting game would psychologically appeal to a teenage audience is the achiever
lifestyle that is encouraged in fighter games due to the need to win against whoever your playing
the game with. The main reason that the game would appeal to a male audience is that it would
contain fighting and action which is less common for women to like although I still believe that it
would appeal to a female audience that enjoys fighting games. The main reason that it would
appeal to a teenage audience is the completion style of the game, which would appeal to this
audience, as teens would want to prove themselves as better than their opponent at the game for
enjoyment.
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
In my use of Photoshop over my previous topics I’ve used it to edit photos in the print topic which
probably won’t help me when making my game although it did help me improve the aesthetic of my
magazine cover by using the colour effects to change make the image look more sinister by giving
it a red tone. For my Irn Bru advergame I made a side scrolling game where you needed to use Irn
Bru to defeat enemies although it was only a 10 second animation it took a lot of time to make the
walk cycle of the character and the background which has helped me understand that I need to
simplify my character design for the fighting game in order to finish on time and have more motion
in my animation.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
I want to make fighting game inspired by games such as street fighter and other retro style fighting
games. I didn’t really want a theme for the game however I did consider themes such as a royal
family in a fight with each other or a fighting game set in a restaurant. The final idea that I had was
to have a theme of crime in the game where the two character designs relate to a theme of
violence or crime such as a boxer and gangster. The Idea for this came from games like GTA,
which are popular with an older teenage audience, which was my target audience. Games that I
researched for this were classic fighter games such as Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat which
helped me have a better understanding of how character designs need to be bright and expressive
in order to stand out. I looked at newer games like Pocket Rumble and Hollow Knight to see how
they managed to use more simple character designs without losing expression or style and wrote
about how I would need to incorporate this into my game. Most of the games I looked at had
detailed backgrounds which used lighting to make the player focus on the characters which I could
use in my game but I doubt I’ll have enough time to do this so I’ll spend most of my time working
on the animations of the characters.
Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
I need to focus on where I could improve each process of the project and how I could improve it. I
have look t what I think I did/ didn’t do well in the production process and how this effected my
work overall. I need to find out what other people thought of my work and how they think I could’ve
improved it.
