2. Introduction
Independent Film Companies:
An independent film company is a relatively small
company who is not affiliated with a conglomerate,
this means that they have a lower budget than
blockbuster films since they commonly target a niche
market and will encounter greater expenses due to
their independence.
Conglomerate Film Companies:
A conglomerate is a large company which is both
vertically and horizontally integrated within their
market. This means that they own companies
throughout the production cycle which helps them to
reduce costs. Their films will often reach mass
markets since they will own large market shares and
will possess resources which independent companies
lack.
3. EON Productions
EON studios is known for the production of the James
Bond films. It operates from Pinewood Studios in the
UK and is a subsidiary of Danjaq, LLC. It is not part of
a large conglomerate and instead signs deals with
companies such as Columbia Pictures. Since our
initial idea is an Action/Spy Fiction movie our
production would fit well in with EON’s general
audience since they are known for James Bond.
Since EON are a production company they would
likely help us with the production of our movie and
then work out a deal with another company that
specialises in distribution in order to complete that
section of the product life cycle. This will incur extra
costs however which is a downside of using an
4. Universal Pictures
Universal Pictures is a large conglomerate company
that both creates and distributes films, they are known
for many films including:
Fast and Furious Series
Bourne Series
Since the Bourne series has similar narrative and
themes to my production ideas this means that it is
likely that universal would be suitable for my
production. Due to the fact that Universal also has a
large amount of conglomerate power this would result
in the overall production costs of my production being
lower since I would not need to go to an external
distributor to distribute my production.

5. Lionsgate Entertainment
Lionsgate is part of a large conglomerate which
both has distribution and production elements.
Since Lionsgate has a large range of films within
its portfolio- including some with similar themes to
that of my initial ideas. This means that Lionsgate
would potentially work well with my production.
6. Film Life Cycle
The film product cycle has four main stages:
Film Production- The casting and filming of the actual
production
Film Distribution- Film reels are produced and sent to
as many cinemas as possible.
Film Exhibition- Getting the film into multiplex cinemas
and shown to the public.
Film Marketing- Advertise the film as widely as
possible.
My production would fit into the marketing element of
the film life cycle since it is a teaser trailer which the
main purpose of it is to advertise and make people
aware of the film in order to boost sales and hype.
