Question 3
1.
2. I researched at many different production companies such as Hammer Film
Productions, Amicus Productions and a few local production companies
such as the BBC. These production companies have produced many films
of the thriller genre; this would make it suitable for our film. The more
popular production companies are known worldwide and are extremely
expensive and the films that they produce would be put straight into main-
stream cinemas. Although it would be extremely beneficial for us to produce
our film with a well-known company, it is way too expensive. The company
that would be more suitable is the BBC as they are local and more cost
effective. They recently produced a TV series that is in the thriller genre
called 'Hinterland'. We based our film on that TV series so it has some
similarities such as the scenery. This would also give us a better chance of
producing our film with them.
3. There are many ways to distribute my film. The techniques I could use
are independent cinema, main-stream cinema, download, straight to DVD
and hybrid distribution. The one I would use is either independent cinema
or hybrid distribution. Independent cinema because I could personally go
and pay them to show our film at their cinema and from that it could get
more popular and could possibly end up in main-stream cinema. This
option would be more time consuming but cost effective. My second
option would be hybrid distribution as I could make money from selling
the DVD's and selling digital downloads but the film wouldn't be seen by
as many people as if it was in a cinema. But is still extremely cost
effective and not very time consuming.
To market my film I could use many free and popular techniques. For
example if I wasn't able to get my film into the cinema I could show the
trailer, this would be extremely effective as it would give the audience a
taster of what the film is about and may interest them. Another way is
print based advertising. This way I could advertise our film in posters and
magazines for virtually nothing and it could be productive if the posters
were put up in a public place and if the magazine is popular.
