1. Why PDHPE is
an essential
subject to be
taught in
primary schools
PDHPE is one of the six Key
Learning Areas (KLA) in the
NSW primary curriculum.
PDHPE equips students with the
knowledge and skills to move into
a healthy and active future.
2. PDHPE teaches students about finding
one’s place in the world.
Students learn to value themselves and
others, highlighting that everyone is unique.
This combines physical, spiritual, social,
mental, and emotional elements of
wellbeing.
Teaches about individual
growth and development
patterns
3. Media and research report on the unhealthy
demographic of Australia.
PDHPE promotes positive health choices
from a young age.
PDHPE gives students knowledge to make
healthier lifestyle choices in terms of finding
a balance in all aspects of life.
Encourages healthy lifestyle
choices
4. Promotes physical activity
FACT: Students should be physically active for
30 minutes every day.
PDHPE approaches physical activity in a
motivating way as it is based around fun and
inclusion.
Students learn new skills and practice these
skills in a social context with their friends.
5. Teaches safe practices
PDHPE uses decision making and
responsibility to teach safe practices
(water/road/cyber safety).
This is extremely valuable so students can
understand the importance of
protection.
