2. “Personal Development, Health
and Physical Education (PDHPE)
is one of the six key learning
areas in the NSW primary
curriculum”(Board of Studies
NSW, 2007).
The initial physical activity experiences
which the child has at school will
impact significantly on attitudes and
practices in later life. Hence we need to
ensure that the experiences in physical
activity at school are positive in order
3. Valuing self and others
Pdhpe encourages students to:
– respect and value themselves and others
– develop self confidence
– form positive attitudes about themselves and
others
– Communicate confidently and effectively
– Work cooperatively
– Develop and maintain positive relationships
4. PROMOTE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
Get active everyday in as many ways as
you can.
Pdhpe encourages physical activity for
children as it is an essential ingredient
for the development and maintenance of
a healthy lifestyle.
Pdhpe aims to develop a positive and fun
attitude towards physical activity in
order to maintain this lifestyle as
children grow older.
5. Right Health Choices
• Pdhpe directs and informs
students regarding healthy
eating choices.
• Students must be able to learn
the correct information
regarding healthy eating and
also be able to make decisions
and distinctions regarding
their health choices.
6. Safe Living
• Pdhpe teachers students about safety
with regards to road safety, stranger
danger, sun protection, swim safety etc.
• “the safety and security of children is
enhanced when they can recognise
situations where their personal safety
may be at risk, and use strategies to
protect themselves” (Board of Studies,
2007).
7. • And above all, PDHPE is about
having FUN whilst learning
how to develop and maintain a
fun active healthy lifestyle.
