2. The title “Q” is in huge font size
which makes it stand out. The white
contrasting on the red helps this.
These promotions of artists are
written in coloured text boxes so the
writing is readable. There’s one in red
instead of white – this could imply
this is more important than the
others on the left.
The date and the price are
labelled here, as well as the
magazines website. This shows
they care about their magazine as
well as the artists they promote .
There’s very small writing down
the side of the page which seems
to be a sort of summary for the
main points of the magazine.
Although people can barely see it,
they don’t need to because the
main writing is basically the same.
“The UK’s Biggest Music
Magazine” shows they are
confident in what they promote.
They want it to be noticed. This
would most likely be the first
thing you see when the magazine
is on the shelf since magazines
will cover the rest, so it’s useful
to have it written there.
There’s a white, red and black
theme throughout the page
which are three bold colours that
work well together.
The thing that stands out the most
after the big “Q” is “Cheryl Cole
Rocks”. She is the one they are
promoting the most and they want
to showcase that.
The picture is the same colours as
the writing which keeps with the
theme. The rain adds effect and
she is looking directly at the
camera in a close up shot.
This grey box kind of stands out
because it is a different colour to
anything else, apart from a bit of
text above. This means people
could be drawn to it.
Short, precise text keeps the
reader interested.
3. The image of Lana Del Rey is in front
of the title which brings more
attention to the image. It’s actually
quite difficult to tell that the title says
“Billboard” and you would probably
have to know the magazine well.
Once again the date and the price is
labelled. The barcode is clear and
there’s also multiple websites links in
case you wanted more information.
This white font is difficult to read,
because of the colour and the font.
The size is also quite small. The
background is too colourful for a lot
of writing to be readable. This other
writing promotes other musicians and
artists, however they must not be as
important since the font doesn’t
stand out or is very readable.
Lana Del Rey is obviously the
highlight of the magazine, since the
image is her and her name is written
to the side of the image. She isn’t
looking at the camera and it is a
medium shot of her. This means the
magazine could also be showcasing
her outfit, and not just her face.
The writing is all in white with a
few blocks of colour in the title.
This is due to the colourful
background – although the white
writing isn’t readable in places
because of how busy the
background is. A simplistic image
would have made the writing
stand out for, because that
should be the thing that’s
showcased.
Promotion of a special issue in a
different coloured text box makes it
stand out even though it is in small
text.
“Best Bets” and “All You Need to
Know for 2012” are in the centre of
the page and these are what stand
out to me the most. “Best Bets” is
written in a font that’s quite
flamboyant where as “All You Need
to Know for 2012” is written in bold
writing, which is also easier to read.
The price is written in very small
writing to draw the attention away
from how much it actually costs.
The websites are also in small text.
4. The title is clear and precise. It doesn’t
overlap the picture and isn’t under it
either so you know that it’s important.
There’s a promotion in red which
makes it stand out well. This is used to
make the reader buy the magazine
because it is something that may
interest the person. It is the only
bright red on the page and it will
catch the readers eye.
This is most likely made by a student
however it still looks quite
professional because it includes all
the things needed.
The text is written in bold here and is a
different font to the text around it. This
draws attention to this part, making it
important than the other text.
They’ve included a barcode which the
first example didn’t have (although it
would most likely be on the back
rather than the front).
This text at the bottom of the page
is barely readable, so it seems less
important.
The text at the top is kind of like a
subheading, I think this would look
better with spaces in-between the full
stop and the next letter though.
The issue number, date and price is
labelled here. The other two examples
did not have issue numbers.
The girl is smiling and looking at the
camera which gives a positive vibe to
the audience. In the Lana Del Rey
picture she looked away from the
camera and wasn’t smiling which may
not appeal to people as much. The shot
taken here is a medium to close shot.
The background is plain so it makes text
easier to see. There’s a theme of red,
blue and grey which is also similar to
what the girl is wearing. This means
there’s a clear theme.
I think the text font isn’t a very good
font to use because it is also in bold.
This makes it less easier to read
because its chunky text and kind of
merges into itself.
