Radio Advert:
Final Production:
When making my ancillaries I was always trying to think of ways to make
them relate to one another whilst also achieving at pulling in the audience
we want / predict. Due to this there are quite a few small things I
incorporated to really pull this combination together. Due to our final
production being completed before our ancillary work began I had plenty of
time to analyse what had been made and really consider what would
encourage people to want to watch this documentary. The questionnaire
on my research and planning page really helped me have a look at what
people wanted from a documentary which I then could reflect on to my
ancillary. Doing this meant I had to remember to always include crucial
information, which would ruin my advertisement if this was not done,
whilst also not swaying from the main theme of the work I had done.
3. What where the Links between your ancillary
tasks and your final production?
Newspaper Advertisement and final production:
The obvious pull of my audience attention had to be to our main theme, which was dogs. Due to this I felt the need to be as
obvious and simple as ever, so there where no confusion on what my documentary would be about. Therefore the photo I
chose I feel really represented the happy innocent feel of our documentary, the dog is looking straight at the camera showing
engagement which eye contact ,which has been shown in studies to really pull your attention the object looking at you,
which a huge requirement for my advert. Having one dog made the advert seem less tacky, more intriguing. In this case my
newspaper advert kept the theme of less is more so all the information wouldn’t have been ignored but also be one of the
few things to look at making this vital information more likely to read and hopefully result in more viewers when our
documentary airs. Despite the simplicity I included a similar font used in our documentary’s opening title sequence which
made a subtle link to our documentary with out cheapening the overall advert. Due to our documentary being aired on
channel 4 is was vital to really analyse the other newspaper advertisements made by them, from this I added the channel 4
logo and the white backdrop to the text to really emphasise the link of channel four between the two productions.
4. What where the Links between your ancillary
tasks and your final production?
Radio Advert and Final Production:
When making our radio advert we had to consider what would encourage people to watch our documentary. From this we
thought we would create a simple convocation nothing overly crazy as we wanted to keep our continuous use of simplicity
throughout our three products. Our conversation included all the vital information with punctuation on the bits that needed
to be remembered. With this we had to incorporate nothing direct but the usual excitement people would feel over any dog
documentary but emphasise that ours would be something extra special. We included the same sound track creating the
usual happy uplifting feeling felt throughout all our video footage. This link from the advert will be heard straight away as the
opening title sequence has no voiceover but only the soundtrack showing a subtle hint between our two products. Despite
me being a voice over in the documentary and in the radio advert I am still voicing two different people, this meant my voice
was not intentionally a link and hopefully sounded more casual than the formal voice used in the documentary.
