Child abuse is usually classified into three
major types

4. Sexual abuse
Child sexual abuse as “interaction between a
child and adult in which the child is being
used for the sexual stimulations of the
perpetrator or another person”
Impact
Child may appear withdrawn or retarded
Poor peer relationship
Unwilling to participate in activities
Delinquent behavior
Ran away
5. Emotional abuse
Emotional abuse is the neglect or maltreatment
of children
Blaming, Belittling, Rejecting
Constantly treating siblings unequally
Persistent lack of concern
6. Impact
Habit disorders (biting ,thumb sucking),
Conduct disorders(destructiveness, cruelty,
stealing)
Neurotic traits ( hysteria, phobias),
Behaviour extremes (passive or aggressive ,
demanding or undemanding)
Lag in emotional and intellectual development
Suicide attempt
