What is Child Abuse? Child abuse is the physical, sexual, emotional mistreatment or neglect of a child.    There are four major categories of child abuse :  neglect ,  physical abuse  ,  emotional abuse  and child  sexual abuse.      
Physical Abuse Physical abuse is the deliberate application of force to any part of a child's body which may result in a non accidental injury.   
Sexual Abuse Sexual abuse is when an adult or youth uses a child for sexual purpose.
Neglect Neglect occurs when a child's parents or caregivers do not provide the requiste attention to the child's emotional , psychological or physical development.
Emotional Abuse Emotional Abuse involves acts by parents or caregivers that cause or could cause serious behavioural , cognitive, emotional or mental disorders.

Punishments Charges can range from, Sexual assault, failure to provide, sexual interference and Assault.    Any case that involves a child under the age of 18 will immediately be directed to the (C)hildren, (A)id, (S)ociety.   At that point CAS will have the option to remove the child, and the police can charge the clients involved or can even present jail time regarding the issue.
General Statistics A report of child abuse is made every 1o seconds. More than 5 children die everyday as a result of child abuse. Approximately 80% of children that die from abuse are under the age of 4.  About 30% of abused and neglected children will later abuse their own children.  14% of all men in prison in the United States were abused as children. 36% of all women in prison were abused as children.
