3. Direct Address
The house style that NME uses is a direct address which
engages the reader as the title is used in both the front
cover of the magazine and the contents page. Also, the
use of “This week” Is directly talking to the reader.
4. Main Conventions
NME’s colour scheme is one of the
main conventions as the colour used
in the masthead title is also used in
the column for the names of the lists
of pages, which is on the contents
page.
Also, the straplines are used more In the contents
page as well as on the front page which is only
used to highlight key information, similarly to on
the contents page with the black straplines being
the titles of a section.
5. Kings of Leon vs. Oasis
In the front cover, the main picture if of the band members
of King of Leon and also, only a mid-shot of their faces is
taken in the picture which adds the focus onto face of the
band. The contents page however has a different act
which is something important to take note of when
construction my own contents page
7. Features 1
Similarly to the NME magazine above, Q also place the
logo on the contents page but in exactly the same place it
is on the front page. Also, the front page page is placed in
small at the top, on the left hand side which makes
reference to the cover and is a feature I may do in mine so
there is a resemblance.
Lastly, the issue number
that is placed at the top
of the ‘Q’ logo on the
front cover is also used
on the contents logo but
in white which is very
distinctive.

Another set of features ‘Q’ uses is illustrating the date of the magazine. This
works effectively as the audience are aware when the magazine came out if
the purchase old copies.

9. Colour Themes
The colour theme of Q is mostly Red and Black which
make reference to the logo and it gives a sense of there
being a clear convention in the magazine. The strap lines
are red which distinctively indentifies what each of the
columns on the contents page is about which thus allows a
easy navigation for the reader.
10. Reference
Q Magazine, identify there is a review which is placed at
the bottom left of the front cover. This lures the audience
as they will feel to purchase the magazine if they have a
interest in reading the reviews and if the reader chooses to
only read a specific review the magazine has done (e.g.
books, tv etc.) then on the contents the page it is placed
clearly at the top of the second page of the contents.
