1. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Self- Actualization Esteem Needs Social Needs Safety Needs Physiological Needs By Tatiana Tejada
2. What is the Hierarchy of needs? Human psychologist Abraham Maslow is the father of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. Believes that individuals behavior is linked by the levels we have accomplished from five levels of basic needs. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs include physiological needs, safety needs, social needs, needs for esteem and needs for self-actualization.
3. In order for humans to improve our Hierarchy of needs we must fully gain one level before we move on to the next. How does it apply to speech? As speakers we must think about what our audience needs. Then we give them what they need to satisfy their levels of basic needs.
4. Physiological Needs The base for humans biological needs: Derived from oxygen, food, water and homeostasis.
5. Safety Needs Audience must feel welcomed and safe. We do this by directing the audience with a solution that they feel comfortable and secure.
6. Social Needs Our audience likes to be needed. Nobody likes to be a misfit or feel alone. We give them a loving environment that accommodates their need. Do not ignore the audience.
7. Needs for Esteem We must compliment each other. We compliment ourselves and our audience. Interact with the audience.
8. Needs for Self- Actualization Our final level is when we have achieved all needs. We have a solution that makes us happy; we have reached our “peak experience.”
9. Do our needs end here? No, once we have achieved self- actualization in one department we strive to fulfill another need.
10. Remember to Satisfy our targets need we must… Identify the basic need level our audience is on. Create the line of reasoning that will most appeal directly to the audiences’ needs.
