Thanks! I see that you allow links, but do you support HTML? I wanted to avoid pasting in the long link. Much appreciated!
  • + rashmi Rashmi Sinha 3 years ago
We do support links in comments. Here is the link for searching Slideshare' rel='nofollow' target='_blank'>http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rlz=1B2GGGL_enUS176&q=... with Google.
  • + umhealthscienceslibraries Health sciences Libraries 3 years ago
Thanks for the explanation! I suspected as much, and eagerly await the searching improvements. For folks who are not familiar with how to search a site in Google, you can either click to go to advanced search, or add this search string to your topic search:

    site:slideshare.net

PS, J? Can I lobby to include 'some HTML' as an option in comments also? :-) I would have loved to make that string a live link.

The low search quality reflects the fact that we haven't focussed on it yet. Our current search is very 'dumb'. There are good free tools for building search engines now (lucene for example) and we'll be rolling out big improvements to search in the next month or so.

In the meantime, google is probably the best way to search our site! ;->

Wow! I am very flattered! Thank you very much for linking to our presentation. I love what you just said about the link between the creation of the Internet and Web 2.0. Personally, I am not thrilled with the term 'Web 2.0' for exactly that reason -- it simply says that we are finally beginning to achieve the original vision of Web 0.1. Thanks also for the link to Go2, and your most fascinating blog. I'll be keeping on eye on both.

    Much appreciated, Patricia Anderson

I listened all your presentation and reviewed your webpage, I also embed your presentation and add the audio in stream format to my blog with an option to download it too. ( you can see it at http://web2097.blogspot.com/ ). It is really educative to hear what other people is saying, to have a broad understand of the problem, to learn where to start to work to improve our knowledge of these 'new' technologies of education. Other concepts that I like about Web 2.0 are FREEDOM and SHARING (weren't those the purposes of the creation of internet). Well, Here I leave you a link that will be helpful for you, with many tools for free http://www.go2web20.net

Thank you very much for your comment, Dr. Castillo. I agree completely about the general lack of experience and expertise in using these technologies -- at this time. Technologies in general have early adopters and late adopters, but the time difference between these two groups seems to be gradually becoming smaller. Within a community, energy builds up among a group of interested users.

This particular session is one of a series of brown bag sessions our libraries are doing on basic and emerging technologies of interest to our community. This session was given last week to an impressive audience (for us) of 16 people including clinicians, administrators, clinical and clerical staff, and students. The assumption in some parts of the presentation (such as discussing tagging) refers back to the earlier sessions. You are probably right that I could make this more easily understandable to a broader community, and I will try to take that to heart in future presentations. At the same time, I am very happy to be working in an environment where we have a good group of people interested in emerging technologies.

If you are interested in hearing the presentation, along with the questions and dialog with the audience, this is available in a podcast version from this page where we hope to provide the rest of the presentations in our current series.

This is really a good presentation about web 2.0 and few things we can do with it. I read it carefully and understand clearly what are you talking about, but based on my experience,( I haven't read an article about how much doctors know about web 2.0 and if they know how to use it, yet?), most of my colleges do not know even the difference between a browser and a search engine. Then, terms like review content remotely, tags, the web as a platform could be some difficult to understand for some people.
And I agree with you, when you say that the community is still young, so young, there is a lot to learn, but my question is how, with the time, internet becomes 'infinite' and search for information and use the tools that exist depends on who?. This is a time of health computer illiteracy ( analfabetismo informatico), in my opinion now we have a lot of information but we don't use it.
well. I just leave this short comment because as you know a key word in the development of the web is FEEDBACK.
    bye
