2. Simple basic photography is effective, and
easy on the eyes.
Black and white connotes the rock genre,
hinting at both relaxing and heavy styled
music.
I like the design of the inside sleeve โ The photograph
folds out with the booklet.
The panorama shot makes us feel as though we
are peering in at the band as they are playing
their music โ playing on the idea that the album
is a window into their music,
Simplicity in a album cover and sleeve can be more effective, itโs subtle
and yet aesthetically relaxing for the audience, leaving the real
impression to be made by the music.
3. Almost becomes a false
natural habitat
Family looking over countryside
White is calm and welcoming
Children are like shadows
Scratches make it feel disjointed and harsh
Suggests younger generations are Reveals the underneath; scratches
following in the shoes of the current show red
Never changing to become Red connotes danger, fear,
better paranoia,
Words scratched into countryside- Implies the calm on the surface is
suggests the family are being controlled just a facade to hide the dangerous
subliminally hectic situation that lies
underneath.
Politics and power taking over; fear
Paranoia + political references of being controlled
4. Familiar grounds become
something that makes us feel
uneasy Photograph turned into Stalactites and Stalagmites fill the
graphics corridor
Ariel countryside view Suggests it is becoming stale
Manmade overruled by
nature โ contradicts in other
images
Scratchy lines
Harsh colour contrasts
5. Mostly coming from city โ suggest fear and City more black than white; vice
paranoia are man made and come from men versa for countryside โ implies the
of power and manmade objects city is daunting and intimidating
Scratchy, sketchy drawings Red sky creates an
apocalyptic feel Reds are more natural; makes
suggest a sense of paranoia countryside more welcoming
Orange- rather man made colour; than city
street light pollution of city
Harsh colour contrasts
Looks like city is fragmenting.
Lines scratched into artwork
create a disjointed feel

6. Use of the bandโs colours โ reds, greys and blacks are
recognisable for the band.
Album artwork reflects the relaxed attitude the band has towards
music. It also, as mentioned in earlier research, emphasises the
close relationship between the members of the band, suggested
by the connecting tongues around the rose in the centre
Back of the album features typical conventions
โข Barcode
โข Track listings with numberings
โข Record label
โข Copyright information
โข Band logo/imagery
7. Inside sleeve of the album features photographs and lyrics, like most typical inner
sleeves of albums.
The colours further create brand identity, continuing with the reds, greys, and blacks as
seen on the front of the album cover.
The pages are filled with photographs of the band, split up with pages of block colour,
filled with lyrics. Also on these pages it is stated who wrote and produced the songs.
The middle pages feature a photograph across the double page spread as seen
below.
8. Similarly to Red Hot Chili Peppersโ, the
inside sleeve for My Chemical Romance
features images from the characters and
story featured within the music videos for
the singles off their album, split with brightly
coloured pages featuring lyrics.
Lyrics and photographs are a typical convention found on
the inside sleeve of an album.
The back of the album case features the
typical conventions:
โข Barcode
โข Track listing with numbers
โข Record label
โข Copyright details
โข Album name
โข Fitted imagery
The colours and the
effects applied to the
images are consistent
throughout all the
artwork creating brand
identity.
9. The front cover of the EP is very simple.
Minimal can be very effective. Just an image and the
bands name can be interpreted as artistic.
The back cover follows the typical conventions:
โข Barcode
โข Record label
โข Copyright details
โข Relevant imagery
โข Track listing
However the track listing isnโt numbered โ Itโs an EP so there is
few songs. There is no use In numbering very few songs. I also
believe this makes it look cleaner and crisper, referring back
to the idea that minimal can be interpreted as artistic.
10. The inside sleeve play to the typical codes and
conventions.
Photographs of the band with a rustic look
are put across the pages, broken up with
pages dedicated to lyrics, in a more
interesting way than the previous researched
album sleeves.
Hand written lyrics and sepia tones
create a rustic and authentic
appearance. Creates a sense of
mystery also, as well as connoting
the genre of rock.
Unproffessional iPhone photos create a
sense of equality between the
audience and the band, thus a
relationship is built.
Rather expressionless photographs
connote the serious approach the
band have towards music.
