Irony In Shawshank Redemption
The Shawshank Redemption premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in September 1994, and opened a
few weeks later. It got good reviews but it did not do good business as it does not have an interesting
title; it was a prison drama which did not attract women. It contained almost no action, it starred actors
who were respected but not big stars, and it was a long 142 minutes. Clearly this was a movie that
needed word of mouth to find an audience, and indeed business was slowly but steadily growing when
it was yanked from theatres. Within five years, Shawshank was a phenomenon, a video best seller and
renter that its admirers feel they ve discovered for themselves. When the Wall Street Journal ran an
article about the Shawshank groundswell ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The word redemption is in the title for a reason. The horror here is not of the supernatural kind, but the
sort that flows from the realisation than 10, 20, 30 years of a man s life have unfolded into unchanging
daily prison routine. There is a lot of life and humour in it, and warmth in the friendship that builds up
between Andy and Red. The loyalty between the two was also amiable and almost unbelievable. There
is even excitement and suspense, when we least expect it. But mostly the film is an allegory about
holding onto a sense of personal worth, despite everything. The film also holds on to the though that
what we might see might not always be the truth. The film also gives the impression that those that do
bad will be punished. Although the film is slow paced in the middle passages, maybe that is part of the
idea, too, to give us a sense of the leaden passage of time, before the glory of the final

Ecological Model By Urie Bronfenbrenner
Introduction
Urie bronfenbrenner has proposed a model known as the ecological model. The model explains out the
human development with relation to entire ecological system in which he lives, infect in which growth
occurs . Before explanation I would like to focus on some key words of the assignment that is
important part in understanding the model.
Ecology
Ecology is the branch of biology that deals with the relations of organism to one another and to their
physical surroundings.
Cary institute of ecosystem studies(2014) given the definition of ecology as the scientific study of
process influencing the distribution and abundance of organism, the interactions among organisms,
and the interaction between organism and the transformation and influx of energy and matter .

Bird Species in Belize Essay
This past week in Belize was undoubtedly one of the best experiences I have ever had. In the special
topics biology class, I learned so much about the ecology, culture, and history of the newly established
country. Not to mention, I obtained a new respect for ornithology and a new interest in birds. About
the size of Manhattan and with a population of almost 350,000 people, Belize surprisingly holds
approximately 500 species of birds. We were able to spot 135 species of birds during our stay and also
learned about a few mutualism relationships.
One of the greatest mutualism relationships is between the ants and the bullhorn acacias. The ants live
in the hollow bullhorns and protect the tree, making sure there is no vegetation to harm it. ... Show

The seeds are in a pod and have a very pungent odor resembling dried, old, sweaty underwear.
Guanacaste seeds can only be planted if their protective covers are punctuated and this is usually
performed by large mammals. Now, there are only cattle and horses to perform this duty in Belie; thus,
seed dispersal is rare.
Mimosa pudica is a touch sensitive plant that will close its leaflets inward when touched. It is found
on the ground or on plants and is relatively small in size. The tour guide at the Community Baboon
Sanctuary said that the plants were used when slaves were in Belize. Closed mimosas would show
runaway slaves the escape path.
At the Community Baboon Sanctuary, many other plants were noted. Smilax tendrils, also called cat
claw, were used as a form of birth control. Aerial roots are a favorite of the black howler monkeys.
The roots can be smoked and help people quit smoking. The cohune have many uses such as: makes
furniture, rings, wine, massage oil, stops infections and more. The miconia leaves have an orange
substance at the end that is used as a ringworm cure. Purple vervines is used as a treatment of
leukemia. Melastoma leaves are favored by monkeys, very soft and can be a replacement to toilet
paper. The tourist tree, called because its red skin will peel like tourists, is used in gumbo.
Leaf cutter ants have an ant fungus mutualism. The ants will nurture the fungus by feeding it leaves

Treatment Options For Children With Adolescent Idiopathic
Treatment Options for children with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis
Parents of children diagnosed with AIS (Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis) face difficult decisions when
determining a course of treatment. The information received from the child s doctor or orthopedist
may be the only reference parents have to base decisions on. This may leave many unanswered
questions regarding the child s treatment, effects of treatment and long term quality of life after
treatment. Like most parents, upon hearing my daughter s diagnosis, a million questions came to mind
including what does this mean for her health, can she still play sports, will she have pain, and mostly,
will she live a normal life?
Background:
Scoliosis is defined as an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While back pain is not a normal sign of scoliosis, it was the only thing my daughter complained about
and it can indicate a secondary condition such as spondylolisthesis, syringomyelia, tethered cord,
herniated disc or spinal tumor. (Asher Burton, 2006)
Diagnosis for scoliosis via a standard exam can be easily detected using the Adam s Forward Bend
Test. During this test, the patient leans forward with his/her feet together and bends 90 degrees at the
waist revealing any asymmetry on the truck or any abnormal spinal curvatures. If abnormalities are
detected an x ray, spinal radiograph, CT scan or MRI will be used for more accurate diagnosis. Curves
are then measured by the Cobb Method with the higher severity depicted by a greater curve. (AANS,
May 2016) Statement of Problem: Interventions and treatments for AIS have evolved over the years,
however long term study documenting outcomes are rare. To properly study a case from diagnosis to
completion would encompass a minimum of thirty years. Effects of treatment are unknown due to lack
of comprehensive studies. This leaves parents of AIS patients at the mercy of doctors and orthopedists
who themselves have not

Social Inference
Social Influence on memory of Sydney Olympic 2000
Abstract
Our decision making might change as a consequence of interacting with a single individual or a group
of people. We tend to have same opinion with others when we are in a group. An experiment about the
effect of social influence was conducted. 563 participants were asked to recall how many medals
Australia got in Sydney Olympics 2000. Participants were given ¡¥Low¡¦ (50%), ¡¥Accurate¡¦ or
¡¥High¡¦ (150%) examples. Result shows that participants tend to be influenced by examples given to
them. Participants who were given ¡¥Low¡¦ examples had lower answers than those given ¡¥Accurate¡¦
examples while participants given ¡¥High¡¦ examples had higher answers than those given ... Show

Descriptive statistics summarizing the mean, lower and Upper Boundary of High, Medium and Low
group are shown in Table 1.

Low 42.80 40.08 45.52
Medium 57.96 56.36 59.55
High 79.89 77.82 81.96
There are different between ¡¥Low¡¦, ¡¥Accurate¡¦ and ¡¥High¡¦ group for the total medals. It is not
sure whether they are significant. Therefore, independent sample t tests were used to compare the
differences between the means of ¡¥Low¡¦ and ¡¥Accurate¡¦, also for ¡¥Accurate¡¦ and ¡¥High¡¦.
T Test result shows that there are significant difference between ¡¥Low¡¦ and ¡¥Accurate¡¦. t (375) =

The Pros And Cons Of Prison Rehabilitation
When examining the problems with America s prisons, rehabilitation might be thought of as more of a
humanistic approach to reprimand. However, I will argue that under the current prison model,
rehabilitation is neither a desirable nor moral practice.
It is uncontroversial to note that the current prison system is a hostile environment. Inmates are
coerced to live in an environment of constant fear and dehumanization behind zoo like bars. Treated as
criminals first, humans second, inmates are subject to unsanitary and overcrowded living conditions
with the expectation that they will learn from their mistakes and emerge a new person. Nevertheless,
71% of released prisoners are convicted of a serious crime within three years, and 68% return to
prison for at least one day. These high recidivism rates only magnify overcrowding, prison violence,
and the already unsanitary living conditions. According to Barnett, rehabilitation as a theory of
punishment arose as a reaction to the failure of this type of punishment:
Punishment failed to reform the criminal...so attention was turned to modifying ... Show more content

They might suggest that perhaps in these cases the goodness pill could be used as a last resort. To this
sentiment I respond that certainly criminals will not possess the motivation for self improvement
within a coercive environment such as prison. Even the most heinous criminals deserve the chance for
growth, and a goodness pill not only does not offer that chance. One might also object that coercion is
necessary for the enforcement of laws, however, It is not my intention to debate when coercion is
justifiable, only to demonstrate that rehabilitation cannot be productive under a coercive model. Using
rehabilitation as an approach for reprimand within our current prison system might be good
intentioned, but it is nonetheless

Link between Verbal Fluency and Phonological Short-Term...
Each time a bilingual speaks its brain functions in slightly different ways than that of a monolingual s.
Bilinguals deal with constant dual language activation as they are able to switch between two
sometimes very different languages. The ability to use one language without intrusions from the other
language is seen as an important topic of study (Van Assche, Duyck, and Gollan, 2013). However, one
of the costs of being bilingual is the reduced exposure to each language. Studies show that both
sequential and simultaneous bilinguals score lower on vocabulary measures than monolinguals
(Rosselli et al., 200 as cited in Kaushankaya, Blumenfeld and Marian, 2011). Strong evidence for
weakened vocabulary performance in bilinguals comes from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Lexical representations are classified for language membership after receiving syntactic properties
(lemmas). This enables the bilingual person to produce language in a selective manner. Furthermore,
bilinguals use task schemas and a Supervisory Attentional System to create, retrieve and, if necessary
to adapt these task schemas. Because bilinguals cannot completely turn off one language the letter
version of the verbal fluency task used in the present study activates twice as many lexical
representations in bilinguals than in monolinguals. This will lead to a greater degree of competition
for activation across languages hence the effect of subject type (Van Assche et al., 2013). In the
present research bilinguals and monolinguals verbal fluency is tested using a classic letter fluency
task. According to the literature bilinguals have a disadvantage in Vocabulary acquisition that we
expect to see manifest in their Verbal Fluency Task scores. Kaushankaya et al. (2011) were interested
in the link between phonological short term memory and vocabulary development in children and
word learning in adults that has been found in previous research (Gathercole and Adams, 1993,1994;
Service and Martin, 1997). For example, adults nonword repetition performance predicted their ability
to learn novel words in a foreign language (Speciale, Ellis and Bywater, 2004 as cited in Kaushankaya
et al.). Similarly, Rosen and Engle (1997) found

Shingles On The Roof Research Paper
What To Do About Damaged Shingles On Your Roof
Replacing a loose shingle is a common type of roof repair you may have to make, especially if you
have trees that grow too close to your roof. When tree branches scrape the shingles, they lift up the
edges and the shingles eventually curl. Then the wind catches them during a storm and finishes
ripping the shingles off the roof. Even if the shingles aren t missing completely, you still want to repair
them when you notice they are twisted out of place or curled up on the ends. Here s how to go about
making these roof repairs.

Don t climb up on your roof unless you are confident in your ability to climb a ladder and walk around
on the roof without slipping.
Making The Repairs
You can buy all the supplies you need for roof repairs at a home improvement store. It may be difficult
to find an exact color match if your shingles are old and faded due to sun exposure, so you ll have to
do the best you can. In addition to shingles, you ll need roofing nails, a crowbar, hammer, and roofing
adhesive. In places where a shingle is completely missing, you can slide a new one into the empty
space and nail it down using the same nail holes used for the old shingle.
If a shingle is badly curled or cracked, decide if you want to replace it or repair it. Replacing it might
be quicker if you have extra shingles on hand. Use the crowbar to pry up the old shingle. Pull the nails
out, and then slide in the new shingle and nail it in place. If you want to repair the shingle instead, all
you have to do is put roofing adhesive under the curl or over the crack. Place a brick over the curled
portion of the shingle to hold it in place until the adhesive

Review Of Maus s The Rise Of The Graphic
The term contemporary literature applies to anything written after World War II. Like all historical
eras, the era of contemporary literature has formed, and continues to form, the literature that is present
today. The contemporary literary era defines a time period but also describes a particular style and
quality of writing. Much of the literature written in this era is diverse, ironic and reveals political,
social and personal views.
One of the more notable stylistic innovations of contemporary literature is the willingness to include
visual art along with writing. Per Lauter Yarborough, The rise of the graphic narrative in the 1990s
reflects the desire of writers and readers to consider the way literature has changed as Americans ...

During the time of the civil rights disputes, Gwendolyn Brooks felt passionate about the mistreatment
of African Americans and channeled her passion into her poems. One of her poems, A Bronzeville
Mother Loiters in Mississippi. Meanwhile, a Mississippi Mother Burns Bacon dramatized the
aftereffects of the lynching of Emmett Till. Till was a fourteen year old African American youth who
was murdered by Roy Bryant in Mississippi because he had allegedly whistled at Carolyn Bryant, a
white woman. In this narrative poem, Brooks depicts a scene in the Bryant household after the murder
of Till. In mockery of the situation, Brooks characterizes Till as a villain, and Carolyn Bryant as a
maiden who need rescuing from a prince, Roy. Brooks writes: Pursued by the Dark Villain. Rescued
by the Fine Prince. The Happiness Ever After (p. 2878). However, as the poem continues, Carolyn
begins to wonder if it was all worth it, if the punishment fit the crime. Brooks states: Had she been
worth the blood, the cramped cries, the little stuttering bravado, the gradual dulling of those Negro
eyes, the sudden, overwhelming little boyness in that barn? (p. 2880). Now, Carolyn lives in constant
fear that Roy will conclude she was not worth It. She sees her husband as the murderer and fears for
her children. Ensuing the happiness ever after is not as she thought it would be. A major cultural shift

Analysis of RNNs revealed that the hidden to output function, hidden to hidden transition, and input to

Total Quality Management
Producing a quality product, whether a tangible item or a service, is the goal of all organizations, how
this goal is achieved will be the challenge. Quality of the end product has been an obstacle in America
for decades. In the post World War II era as production of products in America rose, the quality of
those products diminished. At the same time other countries such as Japan were not experiencing the
same quality issues.

How TQM Applies to Loma Linda University Medical Center
I am a respiratory therapist at Loma Linda University Medical Center (LLUMC). The hospital is very
proud of the respected reputation which has been earned by the high quality of care provided. In one
aspect, the quality management is similar to traditional management styles, with regards to each

by the administrators and management at all levels.
The most obvious TQM is the establishment of guidelines for the alignment of the organization to
achieve the standards set forth by the Joint Commission of Accredited Healthcare Organizations
(JCAHO). The JCAHO was developed to provide guidelines for healthcare organizations to provide
safe, quality patient care. All healthcare institutions must meet these guidelines in order to have the

Carter s decision to boycott the 1980 Olympics?
Section A: Identification and Evaluation of Sources The first source that has been selected for
evaluation is President Jimmy Carter s speech on the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. The speech was
delivered at 9 pm on January 4, 1980 from the Oval Office at the White House. The speech was
broadcast on live national television and is a primary source. The reason this speech is so prevalent to
this paper is not only because of the content, but because of the reactions that resulted from it that
changed the nation. Within the speech, the President outlines the invasion of Afghanistan, as well as
the repercussions and potential threat the invasion could mean for the United States. The President
also announces during the speech the withdrawal of the US from the Olympics, which causes changes
in nationwide opinions about sports and politics becoming intertwined. The value of this source is that
it is primary, and is the direct words of the President on the matter. The speech also provides important
insight into the thoughts and actions of the President, as well as his mind set at the time in facing the
difficult situation. Besides just the knowledge of the President s ideas, President Jimmy Carter s

My Antonia Nature Analysis
In My Antonia , nature consistently presents hardships for characters to overcome and also brings
forth inspiring beauty and life within the rural landscape of Nebraska. Throughout the novel, nature
plays an important role in shaping the lives of Jim and Antonia. And through a deeper analysis of how
nature causes growth in the lives of Jim and Antonia via both suffering and beauty, we are able to
develop a better understanding of the role of nature in the novel as a whole.
Throughout the novel, a naturalistic style of writing is evident not only in the vividly detailed
depictions of the Nebraska frontier, but also by how the characters interact with the land in which they
live. The common naturalist theme of man being controlled and at the mercy of nature appears many
times throughout the novel, particularly in the chapters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jim connects with the nurturing power of the summer as he appealingly describes the environment he
grew up in, burning summers when the world lies green and billowy beneath a brilliant sky, when one
is fairly stifled in vegetation, in the color and smell of strong weeds and heavy harvests (Cather 3).
Jim even dwells on the idea of the summer even during the winter, It was as if we were being
punished for loving the loveliness of summer (Cather 136). And with these nostalgic and romanticized
views of the moments in the kinder seasons in which nature in Nebraska is quiet pleasant, inspire Jim

fact that Jim longs to be back in Nebraska. This is specifically seen when he ironically begins to read

Revolutions. Instruments used: History Reference books. Three main books were particularly helpful:
Three Whys of the Russian Revolution, The Russian Revolution, and Rethinking the Russian
Revolution. Writing of an annotated bibliography of the topic. 2. Selection and reading of the sources

This caused each side to bring out their own armies and prepare for civil war. The liberals brought out
the old Tsarist Army to fight the Bolsheviks. The ideology between the dual powers was almost
illusionary, because it forced the cooperation of the bourgeoisie and the proletariat7. The Provisional
Government believed in a government that supported it s citizens without the use of force, basically
everything the Tsar was against. The Bolsheviks believed in a strong army, and social equality. Since
the Provisional Government had no immediate plans for the peasants, the Bolsheviks decided that they
needed immediate action against the Provisional Government. The ideals each held were in stark
contrast, and once the unifying goal of removing the Tsar was achieved, the cooperation of the two
governments began to disintegrate. 3. The Major Failures The Provisional Government failed to solve
the major problems confronting the country such as the state of the country after the war, and the
distribution of power8. The government did not have a loyal army to help enforce it s power. This left
a power vacuum, allowing the country to enter a civil war. This caused the government to forfeit all of
the support it received before the 1917 Revolution. It also failed either to contain by force the

The, Escape Proof Hiv Inhibitor
NTRODUCTION
An impermeable, escape proof HIV inhibitor is yet to be discovered, more so engineered; however
many scientists continue to expand the possibilities of HIV inhibition through renowned cutting edge
research. Retroviral pathogenesis of HIV has been targeted at multiple stages of viral entry,
replication, and release, with the most promising points of drug target being the initial interaction
between the CD4 T cell and the envelope mediated fusion of the HIV virion with the CD4+ Helper T
cell. Currently, HIV entry (fusion) inhibitors range from small lectins found in algae, to antibody
based peptides, to elemental nanoparticles, and each targets a specific step, or multiple sequential
steps, in the HIV entry process. Currently, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Presently, the predominant virus is HIV 1, and generally when people refer to HIV without specifying
the type of virus they will be referring to HIV 1. The relatively uncommon HIV 2 type is concentrated
in West Africa and is rarely found anywhere else. There are currently over 34 million cases of this
disease reported worldwide.3 This disease is very slow to develop and may not cause any significant
symptoms before it causes damage, as it is seen a person can have an HIV infection for years before it
progresses to AIDS. Usually, people infected with HIV progress to AIDS when their CD4 cell count
falls below 200.
VIRAL LIFE CYCLE
The main steps in the viral life cycle are (i) attachment of the viral gp120 to the CD4 T cell receptor,
(ii) binding of the gp120 to CCR5 or CXCR4 co receptors and (iii) fusion of the viral and cellular
membranes HIV entry into the cell is mediated by its trimeric envelope (Env) glycoprotein
gp120/gp41 complex and it happens in two major steps. [1, 2, 4] First, the surface subunit gp120 binds
to the cell receptor (CD4) and a co receptor (CCR5 or CXCR4). Upon receptor binding, the gp41
which is originally sheltered by gp 120, undergoes a dramatic transition from its native state into an
extended pre hair pin intermediate. Then, the transmembrane subunit gp41 inserts its fusion peptide
(FP) into the cell membrane and packs

Distal Radioulnar Joint
The wrist is an anatomic linkage bridging the hand to the forearm. Eight bones of carpus and the distal
radius and ulna form complex articulation that allow 3 degrees of movement. The hand, relative to the
forearm, can flex and extend, pronate and supinate, and deviate ulnar and radial. [17]
In order to have such mobility while maintaining stability, the wrist has complex configuration of
ligaments and bones. Malfunction of the wrist occurs when the structural alignment of the bones has
changed or when the ligamentous constraints have been disrupted. [17]
The distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ)
Problems of the DRUJ have been called by Palmer as the low back pain of the wrist. [18]
Over the last years, there has been a tremendous surge in research involving the anatomy, function,
and treatment of DRUJ pathology.
In the DRUJ: The shallow concave sigmoid notch of the distal radius articulates with the convex
asymmetric shaped ulnar head.

There is also reported a palmar osteocartilagenous lip in 80% of the people which acted as a stable
buttress to palmar dislocation of the ulna.
The articulation of the sigmoid notch with the ulnar head allows rotation of the radiocarpal unit in the
transverse plane.[ 19]
The ulna head:
The medial area of it has a bony prominence, whichis known as the ulnar styloid process. This is the
point of attachment for soft tissue structures. The dorsal nonarticular portion of the ulnar head has an
osseous groove to accommodate the extensor carpi ulnaris tendon (ECU). Articular cartilage covers a
90 to 135 degrees arc of the ulnar head, and only a 47 to 80 degree arc on the sigmoid notch.[20]
One important geometric joint characteristic of the DRUJ is the radius of curvature between the two
articulating surfaces. The radius of curvature of the ulnar head (averages 10 mm) is different from the
radius of curvature of the sigmoid notch (averages 15 mm). Consequently,

Robert Bolt s A Man For All Seasons Essay
Robert Bolt s A Man For All Seasons
In the play, written by Robert Bolt, A man for all seasons the
Common Man is a very important character and also a very important part of the play, not in the plot
but in the way the play has been presented, he is both a narrator and a role player who makes the play
more interesting and separates it from reality. The Common Man also introduces some of the ideas
from Bertolt Brecht s work. The idea of the Common Man is a rare and rather unusual one. Robert
Bolt used him intentionally to be like no other character in his play.
One of the distinctive functions of the Common Man is obvious from his name. The word, common
meaning, common to us all. Everybody in the audience should be ... Show more content on

The Common Man uses slight wit and shrewdness, The likes of me can hardly be expected to follow a
man like that! This is where we see that the Common Man is also likely to be used to add humour,
which is often course, show you something of my own. The audience are able to laugh at other
characters with him.
We see that the Common Man has an intention to stay well out of trouble, to save his own skin. Again,
he communicates this within his roles. An example is the Jailer, who refuses to let More s family stay
any longer. Although we can see he wants to, he sticks to his orders to prevent any trouble for himself.
The Common Man tries to save himself again as the Foreman of the jury, who can see it s obvious
More should be let go innocent but doesn t want to get on the wrong side of the King by displeasing
his wishes, instead he brings a guilty verdict to stay in the clear.
The importance of The Common Man is the way he is able to be both inside and outside of the play,
he can also bridge a gap between the play and the audience and we see him as an informer. When the
audience needed to know of Wolsey s death, the Common Man throws the Cardinal s red robe and hat
to the floor, indicating his death. Robert Bolt created him as a use of alienation, the way in which the
audience are deliberately kept separate from the play to remind

Electric Sheep Androids
First published in 1968, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, by Philip K. Dick, still manages to
find relevance in today s reality. Much of that is due to the fascination of androids in the modern
world s pop culture, and how the concept raises debate and speculation on what is considered human,
or equal to humans in consciousness. More recently, Dick s idea of humanity and what it means for
the androids, has had a resurgence in the popular television show Westworld , and shows no sign of
slowing down. The central debate for the question at hand seems to be: what makes something human
or not human? As much as Dick attempts to undo the barrier that separates android from proper human
by making the barrier unclear, there is still a definite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Evidence for this starts to pop up all over the text. This juncture appears in a scene in which two
bounty hunters are looking at the painting entitled, The Scream , by Edvard Munch. Phil says I think
that this is how an andy must feel (Dick 121). This clearly resonates with Deckard as much as it does
with Phil, because the remainder of the novel we seem to feel his discomfort in retiring androids. He
asks seconds after killing Luba, Do you think androids have souls? (Dick 125).
With all of these blurred lines, one can assume that there s a shortcoming of some sort of spark in an
android that would make them equal to humans. Whether it s their lack of connection to animals, their
void of empathy towards living beings and even each other, or even Dick s paucity of explanation as
to why some of these lines are blurred, it widens the rift between human and android. If Philip
intended this vague differentiation of human and android, it works against him this case, and has
instead emphasized our differences in more

Comparing The Uffizi In Florence And Liverpool s Town Hall
The two building I decided to compare were The Uffizi in Florence and Liverpool s Town Hall. The
Uffizi, built by Alfonso Parigi and Bernardo Buontalenti in 1580 in a pre industrial Florence, was
primarily built to house the offices of thirteen Florentine magistrates and guilds in one place , and
from this position they would have had authority over the entire Republic of Florence. Whereas the
Town Hall built from 1749 1754, during the industrial revolution, was designed by John Wood , but
was largely rebuilt in the early 19th century, adding a dome and south facing portico to the existing
building. It served a variety of functions, including the Mayor s Courtroom and a customs warehouse.
Since 1952 it has been a grade 1 listed building , referred to as one of the finest surviving 18th century
town halls . Unlike the Uffizi, the Town Hall, only had authority over the local area and people.
However this allowed them to have more control over people s daily lives. The Uffizi, Florence (2016)

Immersion Heat Lab Report
In activity 17.3.2 we weighed out 150g of chilled water and 150g of pat dried ice and we put it into a
styrofoam cup along with an immersion heater, and a temperature sensor. We recorded the data on
LoggerPro and as the experiment is running, we continuously stirred the mixture; We ran this
experiment for roughly 16 minutes; We saw that the ice was melting and once it was completely
melted, the water started to get warmer and boil, we also observed steam from the water.
Analyzing our data, we compared the initial mass 300g to the final mass 257.5g, there was some loss
due to evaporating during the boiling process. This experiment supports the concept because we can
see that when the immersion heater was melting the ice, there was a horizontal line near 0°C; When

Skinny dipping with friends was one of the most exhilarating experiences of my life. When I first

I was concerned initially that being new around my friends would create some kind of sexual tension

all too often associate nudity with sex because we live in such a repressed society where a mother

Happiness By Robert Nozick
Noora Hosheshi
Introduction
In The Examined Life, philosopher Robert Nozick lists three conceptions of happiness, which he calls
the three forms of happiness (Nozick, p. 108). The third form of happiness is defined satisfaction with
life as a whole being able to look back on one s life and be satisfied with what one has
done/experienced (Nozick, p. 110). He argues it is easy to understand why people long for this type of
happiness, as it is pleasurable to experience in itself. This is, if evaluation of one s past experiences are
correct, and said experiences are valuable to the individual. By placing emphasis on the value of
meaningful experience in life, Nozick s argument implies one should avoid a vapid existence. At the

2. P4. The third form of happiness is desirable (Y).
3. CII. It s then easy to understand why people want/desire this third form of happiness (C, Modus
Ponens).
Correct evaluation of one s life is important to the third form of happiness being truly experienced. If
the emotion of happiness fits people s lives meaning, they have valuable experiences giving them
reason to be happy while reminiscing the positive evaluation they have made of their lives is correct
(Nozick, p. 112). The second portion of Nozick s argument states a life evaluated by this condition of
the third form of happiness is desirable (E):
P5. If the third form of happiness is found to be fitting (F), the component beliefs of the third form of
happiness must be true (B).
P6. If said component beliefs (B) of the third form of happiness are found true, the life evaluated by
the third form of happiness (H) has value (V).
P7. If the life evaluated by the third form of happiness (H) has value (V), life evaluated by the third
form of happiness is found desirable ( P4)
P8. The third form of happiness is fitting (F)
P9: The third form of happiness is both fitting (F) and desireable (P4)

Risk Management in Johns Hopkins Hospital
Risk Management in Johns Hopkins Hospital Introduction Risk management is the managerial process
of plummeting unreasonable and unplanned losses that ultimately affect an organization. To many it is
also referred to as a loss exposure handling mode of management. In many organizations especially
health facilities such as Johns Hopkins Hospital, losses mainly attributes to a financial crisis and
require proper risk management methodologies. There are a lot of risks pertained to many day to day
activities, ranging from surgeries to the actions of the health workforce and the subordinate staff.
Hence, it is vital to address the risks through necessitated functions and tasks resulting to risk
management. Concepts of Risk Management The basic concept of risk management in health
organizations is to better the care regarding patients and to relate this aspect to financial consideration.
The process maximizes on the care of patients and reduces unexpected or spontaneous financial losses
in the organization. It is, therefore, important for the said institution to take dig into appropriate
measures under risk management to curd problems in its clinical, operational and its financial state.
The core principle in risk management is the creation, planning and implementation of a risk
management program in the health care facility (CNA, 2011, pg 1). The program takes the sole
responsibility of defining the organization s ultimate goals. It also describes its scopes, its

The Negative Effects Of Role Playing Games On Teens
Is it possible that some of today s most popular yet most violent role playing games might have a
severe negative impact on today s world? In today s world, many teens are involved in a variety of
games with simulated violence included in them. Although they are popular, these games have
received a lot of controversy over the years. Twenty year old Adam Lanza was obsessed with the
violent lifelike video battle games that he played at the large suburban home where he lived alone with
his mother, a teacher who became the first victim of his horrific shooting spree in December of 2012.
(6 Murders whose killings are linked to video game obsession). Events like this are unfortunately
common which results in people being concerned about the games causing real world problems.
Others have brought up concern about the content and others about their purpose. If these games are
as hazardous as they are said to be, they should not be permitted or tolerated at all because of the
range of problems they can cause. Even though some believe they are okay I strongly believe role
playing games with simulated violence have a negative impact on teens because, violent role playing
games waste too much time, influence violence, and cause bad behavior.
To start, role playing games have a negative impact on teens because they are a waste of time. Often
times these games have a prize or motive that draws teens into participating. The negative part of this

The Expansion Of Sport For Development
Introduction: Sport has often been viewed as an agent linked to the constructive development of
individuals and as a mechanism that can foster positive social change within communities. As such,
this paper intends to examine the recent expansion of sport for development (SFD) programs within
Canadian Aboriginal communities by exploring the historical and concurrent structure of Aboriginal
sport initiatives within Canada. Given this, the most pervasively used definition of SFD came in 2003,
from the United Nations Inter Agency Task Force on Sport for Development and Peace, which
recognized it as, all forms of physical activity that contribute to physical fitness, mental well being
and social interaction, such as play, recreation, organized or competitive sport, and indigenous sports
and games (UN, 2003, pp. 5). In Canada, the Canadian Sport Policy, exemplified the
institutionalization of this paradigm and formalized the perceived value of SFD initiatives as
evidenced by the creation of a strategy specifically intended for Indigenous participation and
prioritization in Canadian sport: the Aboriginal Participation Policy (Paraschak, 2012; Te Hiwi, 2014).
This policy is significant because it is the primary means of guiding Sport Canada s efforts as it works
with both the Federal and Provincial levels of government to confront systemic inequities, which limit
Aboriginal peoples participation in sport (Thibault Harvey, 2013). Moreover, the APP was predicated

Everyone wants to have a cute cuddly family dog, however, they are not willing to put in the time and

Security Torque Sticker
1. You will want to make sure and begin by taking the console and turning it over on its top, and
position it to the point that you can have direct access to the ports. This is where you will find a screw
that will have a sticker pertaining to your warranty. Take this sticker off and discard it Remove this
sticker as it will not be that important in the long term.. Underneath the sticker you will find a security
torque screw. This is here to deter you from being tempted to open your console up and do regular
cleaning on it. Remove the screw with the special T8 screwdriver that you have as this will be the only
way to remove the screw.
2. Next you will want to make sure to pop the hard drive cover off of the back of the console. This will
be next to the screw that you just removed. After this has been ... Show more content on

Next, remove the ribbon cables running from the disc drive to the motherboard. They can be pulled
out, except for the large one, which has a clip you ll need to disengage. There will also a cable and two
screws on the front and back that will need to be taken care of before the metal plate comes off. Make
sure the thermal pads on the plate stay on or remain on the motherboard.
9. Now comes removing the brains of the operation, the motherboard. This is a very delicate process
as screwing this up can leave your system being nothing more than a paperweight. Once you have
removed all of the screens and other screws that hold this in place, you will once again want to use
your pliers to remove these cables. Once they are all loose and free from the case, your motherboard
should come out without any issues.
10. Finally removing the screws from the plate under the motherboard as well as the few in the back
of the system will generally allow the plate to come out and allow you access to the cooling system of
the console. Many people will take it this far as they want to make sure that their fan is as clean as
possible to ensure that the system runs at its

What Is Airport Security Setting
Vincent Cook How Airport Security is Constricting After 9/11 when the terrorist attacked us and took
over a couple of air airplanes, they started to go for our main government buildings. The president
started to get concerned about the people s safety in America. So they decide to heavy down on
Airport Security. I think they really don t give you any privacy. Paul, Rand has a story to tell about
when he went to the Airport and he had to go through the line. They asked him to step aside for a
moment and they wanted to full body search him, but they didn t care if he missed his flight or not.

A lot of people have had personal experiences on bombing and other related things going on in the
airport or on the planes. In the last two weeks, I have been through TSA screening eight times and not
once was I asked to go through the millimeter wave machine, or undergo an enhanced pat down. Odds
are that most of the 2.2 million passengers who will go through airport security each day during this
holiday weekend will have a similar experience. On the last leg of my trip, I finally asked to go
through both procedures to see what all the fuss was about. ( Personal Experience) He said no one
touched him in any type of way that he should have not have been. Everyone will never make up there
mind if they like it or not just because everyone has their own opinion about when they go through
airport security. But really if they go back to the old way of searching everyone we would have more
bomb threats. Manually because there is a lot of types to sneak in a bomb like shoe bombs, underwear
bombs and drink bombs. All TSA wants to do is protect our safety but also sometimes they step

Many of the concepts that were discussed in Chapter 1 such as opportunity cost as well as some
(much) newer ideas such as marginal and total utility. There are many examples of this such as when
discussing the affects of Hospitality hours (happy hour) on the amount of drinks and the rate at which
people consume their drinks (lower prices and quantity demanded) or the price at which people are
willing to buy a cookbook relative to the profit the writer makes and how the current price was
beneficial to both parties (equilibrium price). Ultimately I quite enjoyed the story and regret not

witty story thus making the 0.01 cents plus 3.99 shipping and handling a real steal for

Process Essay On Longboarding
Longboards are the big brother of standard sized skateboards. They are longer, wider, have fatter
wheels and a longer axle. Each of these differences collectively, makes boarding tricks a little easier,
especially for beginner skateboard enthusiasts. Here are two great tricks you can learn to help improve
your longboarding skills. No Comply The most basic trick in skateboarding is easier to master using a
longboard. It s called the no comply and can be perfected with practice following these steps.
Beginners should initially attempt this trick in a flat area with ample room for mistakes. Both of these
tricks begin by cruising along at a controlled speed, pushing off as needed with your back foot. The
trick starts with your back foot on the tail of the board, with the toe of your front foot in the middle,
again rolling forward. Your front foot should be tilted at a 45° angle. You will raise your front foot off
the board, applying pressure with your back foot while twisting inward just slightly at your back
ankle. This will flip the front of the board up in the air while your front foot lands on the ground. ...

Your front leg is your pivot leg. When you put pressure on the back of the longboard it needs to flip
exactly 180° around so that the back is now facing forward. Sounds easy right? For beginners, it is a
good idea to stand stationary and develop the flip before blending all the steps together. Timing is
critical when performing the no comply trick. Once the rotation is three quarters complete, just before
the front wheels return the ground, your lead leg is repositioned back in the middle of the board. Your
balance will switch to this front leg and with one big push off the ground from your back foot; you ll
be cruising along again. Ghost Ride Kick

Honor Of Honor By Marcus Brutus
There is something about honor that makes people ask themselves what honor really means. Honor
could have many different interpretations. According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, honor is
specified as someone who is respected, has a good reputation, and who is genuinely a good person.
With this denotation in mind, some people might suggest that honor has not changed over time
because some people were looked upon as honorable in the middle ages. For example, Julius Caesar
and Marcus Brutus were both perceived as honorable men throughout the play. However, this depends
on someone s interpretation of honor because the Merriam Webster definition stated that honor is
described as someone who is genuinely a good person. Towards the end of the play Marcus Brutus
killed Julius Caesar. Therefore, he was no longer respected. Years ago society thought of honor
differently. An honorable person was someone who was most likely a knight or a king. The knights
went to battle for their masters. In American today, armies go into battle for their country and loved
ones. Citizens today might characterize honor as a person or group who does something that is an
honorable act. For instance, some might say that Superman is honorable, yet Iron Man is not.
Although both Iron Man and Superman save lives, Iron Man is complaisant and greedy. There is no
question that the aspect of honor has changed over time. The concept of honor is different now than it
was over 100 years ago. To begin, at least

The Movie The Night Dad
The ideal family has a father and mother with children living in a home full of happiness. That may be
true in a movie but the reality is not every child has both of their parents. The number of incarcerated
parents has been rising for years now, so why have teachers brainwashed themselves along with the
students, that if you don t have a father and mother, it is not normal. In the story, The Night Dad Went
to Jail by Melissa Higgins, a young rabbit named Sketch, takes the reader through his experiences that
happen during and after his father is arrested. Higgins acknowledges that many child are in the same
position as Sketch and wants children do know there are books that relation to them. Some parents
may have an issue with a child ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His life has changed with his father being away. The story of Sketch touches on many different aspects
of children going through struggles of having a parent or parents in prison. The story should be
allowed in library for children to read because there are hundreds of other children just like Sketch.
Educators need to understand that not all children have both parents in their household. There are
large groups of kids who have parents in person. From The Night Dad Went to Jail, Higgins presents a
statistic that states, One in every 43 kids in the United States has a mom or dad in prison. Sixty five
percent of men in prison are dads and 75 percent of women in prison are moms . (Higgins). Clearly,
this shows there are more children with incarcerated parents then some people assume. Since the 1980
s, there s been a steady increase in the amount of people sent tor prison, and there is not a sign of the
number of prisoner decreasing. Making this a perfect opportunity to help those children with parent in
prison to understand there are other children going to same experience. An easy way to start assisting
those children is by having them read a story that is relatable to them and make feel less isolated.
Having a connection with a book and having it be comparable to an event that a child id going through
can affect them tremendously.

Essay Genetically Modified Foods
Introduction Let s face it, the term genetically modified (GM) foods is not the most appetizing word in
the English language and neither is the term genetically engineered foods for that matter. Whether or
not you realize it, you have consumed at least one product that contains genetically modified foods.
These modified foods are hiding all over your supermarkets and in some instances, there is no way to
tell just by looking at it. But, they have been around for more than two decades and it has helped to
keep our food supply alive. The technological innovation that is genetically modified foods was first
introduced during the early 1980s. It took nearly two decades of expensive research and development
to move agricultural and food ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They wanted to create crops that were able to be insect resistant, disease resistant, herbicide tolerant,
and climate tolerant. These altered crops also benefit consumers and markets by having an improved
texture and flavor, a longer shelf life, and at times, added nutritional value (Lessick, Keithley, Swason,
Lemon, 2002). The advantages of genetically modified crops range from a higher yield, due to its
ability to withstand natural occurrences, to an increase in nutritional qualities. In theory, this sounds
like a foolproof method because the more resistant crops are, the stronger they are to withstand any
dangers it may face. In 1996, two types of genetically engineered seeds were introduced
commercially, known as herbicide tolerant (HT) and Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) (Budinger, 2010). The
herbicide tolerant seeds were engineered to survive the direct application of herbicides. Herbicides are
used to kill unwanted weeds or plants that could damage the crops. Regular crops are not able to
withstand the intensity of herbicides and would otherwise die from direct application. Bacillus
thuringiensis (Bt), other type of genetically engineered seed, was created to produce toxin within the
plant cells. These toxins are meant to kill certain agricultural insect pests that would destroy millions
of acres of crops. By using these types of GE seeds, farmers are able

Precognitive Dream Research Paper
How to Identify a Precognitive Dream
Future prediction, whether through a precognitive dream or a psychic reading, rarely give a play by
play of how an event will exactly unfold; which had made some of my past clients very angry when I
used to work the psychic lines. One female caller wanted to know if she was going to get a lot of
money from her soon to be ex husband. My Angels answer was, You will be taken care of financially.
She became furious when she ask the questions three different ways and my Angels kept giving her
the same answer. At one point she yelled, You re not answering my question! My response was, This
is the way my Angels are answering it.

Frist Dream
I dreamed that I was with my man, C., and his male friend/co worker at an interesting store. In our
waking life, we have gone out on double dates with C s co worker and wife. I was having a good time
and didn t want to leave.
In the second scene we are with a bunch of his co workers in a place that looks like a department
store, I felt uncomfortable around these people because I didn t know them. C. goes off with a bunch
of people from work up the elevator, leaving me with two of his male office mate that I wasn t crazy
about. I said, Where s C. going? One of the men told me not to worry about it, yet I felt really upset
that he wasn t with me and left me stuck here.
The dream had a precognitive vibe to it, yet I was puzzled to its meaning. I got a text from C. letting
me know we had two opportunities to go out this Saturday and if I was interested. The first was from
our friend who wanted to go to antique stores, but his wife had to work. The second was to see the
movie John Wick plus go out to eat with a bunch of people from his job. I laughed as I thought that s
what the dream meant; I replied yes to the

Leasing A Piece Of Machinery Or Property
Leasing a piece of machinery or property can be beneficial for a company or individual rather than a
straight out purchase. This report will define a lease, the types, and benefits. While illustrating the
difference between a lessee and the lessor, showing the implantations of tax benefits each party will be
able to partake in. The third aspect that will be covered is the written agreement between the parties,
and how these terms can be self defining as to what type of lease in which the parties are agreeing to.
A lease is a legal document outlining the terms under which one party agrees to rent property from
another party. A lease guarantees the lessee (the renter) use of an asset and guarantees the lessor (the
property owner) regular payments from the lessee for a specified number of months or years. Both the
lessee and the lessor must uphold the terms of the contract for the lease to remain valid. (Investopedia)
With in the contracts the details of the agreement are laid out, for both the lessee and lessor. Within
these documents and who they are written can determine what type of lease they are.
Lease Types
There are in general two types of leases. The first would be a capital lease which is a lease in which
the lessor only finances the leased asset, and all other rights of the ownership transfer to the lessee
(Accounting Tools). Within the parameters of the capital lease the lessor can only record the interest
on the lease as an expense, while the asset itself

  • 2. Irony In Shawshank Redemption The Shawshank Redemption premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in September 1994, and opened a few weeks later. It got good reviews but it did not do good business as it does not have an interesting title; it was a prison drama which did not attract women. It contained almost no action, it starred actors who were respected but not big stars, and it was a long 142 minutes. Clearly this was a movie that needed word of mouth to find an audience, and indeed business was slowly but steadily growing when it was yanked from theatres. Within five years, Shawshank was a phenomenon, a video best seller and renter that its admirers feel they ve discovered for themselves. When the Wall Street Journal ran an article about the Shawshank groundswell ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The word redemption is in the title for a reason. The horror here is not of the supernatural kind, but the sort that flows from the realisation than 10, 20, 30 years of a man s life have unfolded into unchanging daily prison routine. There is a lot of life and humour in it, and warmth in the friendship that builds up between Andy and Red. The loyalty between the two was also amiable and almost unbelievable. There is even excitement and suspense, when we least expect it. But mostly the film is an allegory about holding onto a sense of personal worth, despite everything. The film also holds on to the though that what we might see might not always be the truth. The film also gives the impression that those that do bad will be punished. Although the film is slow paced in the middle passages, maybe that is part of the idea, too, to give us a sense of the leaden passage of time, before the glory of the final ... • 4. Bird Species in Belize Essay This past week in Belize was undoubtedly one of the best experiences I have ever had. In the special topics biology class, I learned so much about the ecology, culture, and history of the newly established country. Not to mention, I obtained a new respect for ornithology and a new interest in birds. About the size of Manhattan and with a population of almost 350,000 people, Belize surprisingly holds approximately 500 species of birds. We were able to spot 135 species of birds during our stay and also learned about a few mutualism relationships. One of the greatest mutualism relationships is between the ants and the bullhorn acacias. The ants live in the hollow bullhorns and protect the tree, making sure there is no vegetation to harm it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The seeds are in a pod and have a very pungent odor resembling dried, old, sweaty underwear. Guanacaste seeds can only be planted if their protective covers are punctuated and this is usually performed by large mammals. Now, there are only cattle and horses to perform this duty in Belie; thus, seed dispersal is rare. Mimosa pudica is a touch sensitive plant that will close its leaflets inward when touched. It is found on the ground or on plants and is relatively small in size. The tour guide at the Community Baboon Sanctuary said that the plants were used when slaves were in Belize. Closed mimosas would show runaway slaves the escape path. At the Community Baboon Sanctuary, many other plants were noted. Smilax tendrils, also called cat claw, were used as a form of birth control. Aerial roots are a favorite of the black howler monkeys. The roots can be smoked and help people quit smoking. The cohune have many uses such as: makes furniture, rings, wine, massage oil, stops infections and more. The miconia leaves have an orange substance at the end that is used as a ringworm cure. Purple vervines is used as a treatment of leukemia. Melastoma leaves are favored by monkeys, very soft and can be a replacement to toilet paper. The tourist tree, called because its red skin will peel like tourists, is used in gumbo. Leaf cutter ants have an ant fungus mutualism. • 5. Treatment Options For Children With Adolescent Idiopathic Treatment Options for children with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis Parents of children diagnosed with AIS (Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis) face difficult decisions when determining a course of treatment. The information received from the child s doctor or orthopedist may be the only reference parents have to base decisions on. This may leave many unanswered questions regarding the child s treatment, effects of treatment and long term quality of life after treatment. Like most parents, upon hearing my daughter s diagnosis, a million questions came to mind including what does this mean for her health, can she still play sports, will she have pain, and mostly, will she live a normal life? Background: Scoliosis is defined as an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While back pain is not a normal sign of scoliosis, it was the only thing my daughter complained about and it can indicate a secondary condition such as spondylolisthesis, syringomyelia, tethered cord, herniated disc or spinal tumor. (Asher Burton, 2006) Diagnosis for scoliosis via a standard exam can be easily detected using the Adam s Forward Bend Test. During this test, the patient leans forward with his/her feet together and bends 90 degrees at the waist revealing any asymmetry on the truck or any abnormal spinal curvatures. If abnormalities are detected an x ray, spinal radiograph, CT scan or MRI will be used for more accurate diagnosis. Curves are then measured by the Cobb Method with the higher severity depicted by a greater curve. (AANS, May 2016) Statement of Problem: Interventions and treatments for AIS have evolved over the years, however long term study documenting outcomes are rare. To properly study a case from diagnosis to completion would encompass a minimum of thirty years. Effects of treatment are unknown due to lack of comprehensive studies. This leaves parents of AIS patients at the mercy of doctors and orthopedists who themselves have not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The Pros And Cons Of Prison Rehabilitation When examining the problems with America s prisons, rehabilitation might be thought of as more of a humanistic approach to reprimand. However, I will argue that under the current prison model, rehabilitation is neither a desirable nor moral practice. It is uncontroversial to note that the current prison system is a hostile environment. Inmates are coerced to live in an environment of constant fear and dehumanization behind zoo like bars. Treated as criminals first, humans second, inmates are subject to unsanitary and overcrowded living conditions with the expectation that they will learn from their mistakes and emerge a new person. Nevertheless, 71% of released prisoners are convicted of a serious crime within three years, and 68% return to prison for at least one day. These high recidivism rates only magnify overcrowding, prison violence, and the already unsanitary living conditions. According to Barnett, rehabilitation as a theory of punishment arose as a reaction to the failure of this type of punishment: Punishment failed to reform the criminal...so attention was turned to modifying ... To this sentiment I respond that certainly criminals will not possess the motivation for self improvement within a coercive environment such as prison. Even the most heinous criminals deserve the chance for growth, and a goodness pill not only does not offer that chance. One might also object that coercion is necessary for the enforcement of laws, however, It is not my intention to debate when coercion is justifiable, only to demonstrate that rehabilitation cannot be productive under a coercive model. • 9. Link between Verbal Fluency and Phonological Short-Term... Each time a bilingual speaks its brain functions in slightly different ways than that of a monolingual s. Bilinguals deal with constant dual language activation as they are able to switch between two sometimes very different languages. The ability to use one language without intrusions from the other language is seen as an important topic of study (Van Assche, Duyck, and Gollan, 2013). However, one of the costs of being bilingual is the reduced exposure to each language. Studies show that both sequential and simultaneous bilinguals score lower on vocabulary measures than monolinguals (Rosselli et al., 200 as cited in Kaushankaya, Blumenfeld and Marian, 2011). Strong evidence for weakened vocabulary performance in bilinguals comes from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lexical representations are classified for language membership after receiving syntactic properties (lemmas). This enables the bilingual person to produce language in a selective manner. Furthermore, bilinguals use task schemas and a Supervisory Attentional System to create, retrieve and, if necessary to adapt these task schemas. Because bilinguals cannot completely turn off one language the letter version of the verbal fluency task used in the present study activates twice as many lexical representations in bilinguals than in monolinguals. This will lead to a greater degree of competition for activation across languages hence the effect of subject type (Van Assche et al., 2013). In the present research bilinguals and monolinguals verbal fluency is tested using a classic letter fluency task. According to the literature bilinguals have a disadvantage in Vocabulary acquisition that we expect to see manifest in their Verbal Fluency Task scores. Kaushankaya et al. (2011) were interested in the link between phonological short term memory and vocabulary development in children and word learning in adults that has been found in previous research (Gathercole and Adams, 1993,1994; Service and Martin, 1997). For example, adults nonword repetition performance predicted their ability to learn novel words in a foreign language (Speciale, Ellis and Bywater, 2004 as cited in Kaushankaya et al.). • 10. Shingles On The Roof Research Paper What To Do About Damaged Shingles On Your Roof Replacing a loose shingle is a common type of roof repair you may have to make, especially if you have trees that grow too close to your roof. When tree branches scrape the shingles, they lift up the edges and the shingles eventually curl. Then the wind catches them during a storm and finishes ripping the shingles off the roof. Even if the shingles aren t missing completely, you still want to repair them when you notice they are twisted out of place or curled up on the ends. Here s how to go about making these roof repairs. Making The Repairs You can buy all the supplies you need for roof repairs at a home improvement store. It may be difficult to find an exact color match if your shingles are old and faded due to sun exposure, so you ll have to do the best you can. In addition to shingles, you ll need roofing nails, a crowbar, hammer, and roofing adhesive. In places where a shingle is completely missing, you can slide a new one into the empty space and nail it down using the same nail holes used for the old shingle. If a shingle is badly curled or cracked, decide if you want to replace it or repair it. Replacing it might be quicker if you have extra shingles on hand. Use the crowbar to pry up the old shingle. Pull the nails out, and then slide in the new shingle and nail it in place. If you want to repair the shingle instead, all you have to do is put roofing adhesive under the curl or over the crack. Place a brick over the curled portion of the shingle to hold it in place until the adhesive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Review Of Maus s The Rise Of The Graphic The term contemporary literature applies to anything written after World War II. Like all historical eras, the era of contemporary literature has formed, and continues to form, the literature that is present today. The contemporary literary era defines a time period but also describes a particular style and quality of writing. Much of the literature written in this era is diverse, ironic and reveals political, social and personal views. One of the more notable stylistic innovations of contemporary literature is the willingness to include visual art along with writing. Per Lauter Yarborough, The rise of the graphic narrative in the 1990s reflects the desire of writers and readers to consider the way literature has changed as Americans ... During the time of the civil rights disputes, Gwendolyn Brooks felt passionate about the mistreatment of African Americans and channeled her passion into her poems. One of her poems, A Bronzeville Mother Loiters in Mississippi. Meanwhile, a Mississippi Mother Burns Bacon dramatized the aftereffects of the lynching of Emmett Till. Till was a fourteen year old African American youth who was murdered by Roy Bryant in Mississippi because he had allegedly whistled at Carolyn Bryant, a white woman. In this narrative poem, Brooks depicts a scene in the Bryant household after the murder of Till. In mockery of the situation, Brooks characterizes Till as a villain, and Carolyn Bryant as a maiden who need rescuing from a prince, Roy. Brooks writes: Pursued by the Dark Villain. Rescued by the Fine Prince. The Happiness Ever After (p. 2878). However, as the poem continues, Carolyn begins to wonder if it was all worth it, if the punishment fit the crime. Brooks states: Had she been worth the blood, the cramped cries, the little stuttering bravado, the gradual dulling of those Negro eyes, the sudden, overwhelming little boyness in that barn? (p. 2880). Now, Carolyn lives in constant fear that Roy will conclude she was not worth It. She sees her husband as the murderer and fears for her children. The speech was delivered at 9 pm on January 4, 1980 from the Oval Office at the White House. The speech was broadcast on live national television and is a primary source. The reason this speech is so prevalent to this paper is not only because of the content, but because of the reactions that resulted from it that changed the nation. Within the speech, the President outlines the invasion of Afghanistan, as well as the repercussions and potential threat the invasion could mean for the United States. The President also announces during the speech the withdrawal of the US from the Olympics, which causes changes in nationwide opinions about sports and politics becoming intertwined. The value of this source is that it is primary, and is the direct words of the President on the matter. The speech also provides important insight into the thoughts and actions of the President, as well as his mind set at the time in facing the difficult situation. Throughout the novel, nature plays an important role in shaping the lives of Jim and Antonia. Throughout the novel, a naturalistic style of writing is evident not only in the vividly detailed depictions of the Nebraska frontier, but also by how the characters interact with the land in which they live. The Bolsheviks believed in a strong army, and social equality. Since the Provisional Government had no immediate plans for the peasants, the Bolsheviks decided that they needed immediate action against the Provisional Government. In today s world, many teens are involved in a variety of games with simulated violence included in them. Although they are popular, these games have received a lot of controversy over the years. Twenty year old Adam Lanza was obsessed with the violent lifelike video battle games that he played at the large suburban home where he lived alone with his mother, a teacher who became the first victim of his horrific shooting spree in December of 2012. Others have brought up concern about the content and others about their purpose. If these games are as hazardous as they are said to be, they should not be permitted or tolerated at all because of the range of problems they can cause. Even though some believe they are okay I strongly believe role playing games with simulated violence have a negative impact on teens because, violent role playing games waste too much time, influence violence, and cause bad behavior. • 37. The Expansion Of Sport For Development Introduction: Sport has often been viewed as an agent linked to the constructive development of individuals and as a mechanism that can foster positive social change within communities. As such, this paper intends to examine the recent expansion of sport for development (SFD) programs within Canadian Aboriginal communities by exploring the historical and concurrent structure of Aboriginal sport initiatives within Canada. Given this, the most pervasively used definition of SFD came in 2003, from the United Nations Inter Agency Task Force on Sport for Development and Peace, which recognized it as, all forms of physical activity that contribute to physical fitness, mental well being and social interaction, such as play, recreation, organized or competitive sport, and indigenous sports and games (UN, 2003, pp. 5). In Canada, the Canadian Sport Policy, exemplified the institutionalization of this paradigm and formalized the perceived value of SFD initiatives as evidenced by the creation of a strategy specifically intended for Indigenous participation and prioritization in Canadian sport: the Aboriginal Participation Policy (Paraschak, 2012; Te Hiwi, 2014). This policy is significant because it is the primary means of guiding Sport Canada s efforts as it works with both the Federal and Provincial levels of government to confront systemic inequities, which limit Aboriginal peoples participation in sport (Thibault Harvey, 2013). Each of these differences collectively, makes boarding tricks a little easier, especially for beginner skateboard enthusiasts. Here are two great tricks you can learn to help improve your longboarding skills. No Comply The most basic trick in skateboarding is easier to master using a longboard. It s called the no comply and can be perfected with practice following these steps. Beginners should initially attempt this trick in a flat area with ample room for mistakes. Both of these tricks begin by cruising along at a controlled speed, pushing off as needed with your back foot. The trick starts with your back foot on the tail of the board, with the toe of your front foot in the middle, again rolling forward. Your front foot should be tilted at a 45° angle. You will raise your front foot off the board, applying pressure with your back foot while twisting inward just slightly at your back ankle. Once the rotation is three quarters complete, just before the front wheels return the ground, your lead leg is repositioned back in the middle of the board. • 46. Honor Of Honor By Marcus Brutus There is something about honor that makes people ask themselves what honor really means. Honor could have many different interpretations. According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, honor is specified as someone who is respected, has a good reputation, and who is genuinely a good person. With this denotation in mind, some people might suggest that honor has not changed over time because some people were looked upon as honorable in the middle ages. For example, Julius Caesar and Marcus Brutus were both perceived as honorable men throughout the play. However, this depends on someone s interpretation of honor because the Merriam Webster definition stated that honor is described as someone who is genuinely a good person. Towards the end of the play Marcus Brutus killed Julius Caesar. Therefore, he was no longer respected. Years ago society thought of honor differently. An honorable person was someone who was most likely a knight or a king. The knights went to battle for their masters. In American today, armies go into battle for their country and loved ones. Citizens today might characterize honor as a person or group who does something that is an honorable act. For instance, some might say that Superman is honorable, yet Iron Man is not. Although both Iron Man and Superman save lives, Iron Man is complaisant and greedy. There is no question that the aspect of honor has changed over time. The advantages of genetically modified crops range from a higher yield, due to its ability to withstand natural occurrences, to an increase in nutritional qualities. In theory, this sounds like a foolproof method because the more resistant crops are, the stronger they are to withstand any dangers it may face. In 1996, two types of genetically engineered seeds were introduced commercially, known as herbicide tolerant (HT) and Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) (Budinger, 2010).
