times along their journey but they managed to settle down on a ranch. On that ranch they met an

beginning of the book when Candy first meets George and Lennie, he lets it be known that he
doesn t have a right hand when He pointed with his right arm, and out of the sleeve came a round
stick like wrist, but no hand (18). Candy s outgoing personality is shown when he offers to give all

Persuasive Speech On My Last Day
Go back in time. Imagine yourself walking in the streets of Hiroshima. Eating breakfast, walking
to school, riding the train to work. You re squinting your eyes looking at the sun and you think
to yourself I m going to have a wonderful day. You suddenly see a bright flash. It s so hot you just
disintegrate. You just disappear from the world. Not even a single trace of you. 8:15, August 6,
1945 was a day so terrifying, a day so horrifying the people s stories will be in our hearts forever.
There were many places we went around in Hiroshima, Miyajima and Kyoto but to me the Peace
Park was the most memorable. It shows how horrifying just one bomb, can be and how many
people it can kill and affect. When I went to this trip, I mostly thought. Thought what would happen
if this was my last day. What I would do if this special bomb affected me. What would I suffer

Peace Park because you can see all the suffering people went through and how important world

Internal And External Factors That Affect The Corporate...
There is a conflict in the workplace due to both the internal and external factors. With a stressed
economy and ever snowballing prices of basic amenities like food, gas and other numerous
commodities, these peripheral strains cause problems on employee s home life. These external
conflicts are seen on their work and internal conflictarises. These peripheral stresses put hard hitting
on the economic conditions employers. Often the employees feel their work area as burden and
consequently lack of interest in the workarises. Instability in an organization can be due to the
followingreasons:
ORGANISATIONAL:
When there is reformation and reorganizing taking place in an organization in a short time frame,
leads to subversion of the organization. It occurs due to the following:
(a)Change in organizational structure.
The decision makers are not aware that how reformation and reorganizing process will affect the
corporate culture. It is fairly noticeable ,that not only the structure has been transformed but also the
cultural change has taken place instantly. Cultural changes will necessitate much more time than
changing the organizational structures. When there are melds or procurements there are clangs in
some segments which leads to aggravation of the employees. So the managers are pleased on these
cultural issues which are handled by the decision formulators of the company.
(b)Lack of communication or understanding of the organizational strategies:

The Catcher in the Rye is a novel published in 1951 by J. D Salinger. In the novel, Holden
Caulfield is the main character based on this story, and he is a sixteen year old. He is telling his
story throughout the novel. Parents and students have different opinions about the actions of
Holden. Censorship is not bad in Literature because books are to inspire children in the good ways
and to learn about the world. The novelThe Catcher in the Rye is banned of four reasons because it
contains promiscuity, damage behavior, being depressed with everything, and the foul language.
The major reason is the profanity is a offensive to people. In the novel The Catcher in the Rye by

The Regime Of The Cuban Revolution
Cuba is a nation that has been conquered by many people over the years and because of
decolonization it is hard for the Cuban people to get rid of the rulers who wanted to influence their
history. Fidel Castro gave the Cuban people independence. He was a forceful and cunning dictator
who controlled the country and negatively effected the economy. The United States did not support
the arrogant dictator s establishment of communism which led to an economic downfall. Due to
Castro s insistence on practicing communism, the Cuban economy suffered as the government
nationalized businesses while the United States implemented a trade embargo. In 1940 a dictator
named Fulgencio Batistacame to power in Cubaand was the President there until 1944. He then
returned in 1952 and ruled until 1959 (Levinson). Batista was a dictator and an ally of the United
States. The United States supported Batista and his dictatorship because they felt like they could
control and overpower him, not making him any sort of threat. Between 1940 1944 Batista
sponsored a large program of public works, expanded the educational system, and fostered the
growth of the economy. When Batista returned to power in 1952 he was a brutal dictator and
increasingly participated in corrupt actions (Levinson). Batista took control of the university, press
and congress so he could maintain a strong hold on the people and the country. Batista also took
lots of money that was meant for the government and held corrupt

Traditional Stereotypes Of Heroines In Film
Heroines in Film
With the recent trend in cinema of warrior type heroines such as Katniss Everdeen, it is easy to
lose sight of the actual meaning of heroine, and dismiss past leading actresses that don t fit that
mold. The traditional stereotype of a hero being strong, athletic, and violent should not be the
defining definition of what the audience views as heroes. Courage and plot development should be
considered first and foremost as to the legitimacy of being called a hero. That same checklist should
be applied to heroines. While it is becoming more and more common, a heroine in film does not
need to mirror the traditional male counterpart, she must simply be a woman of character and
bravery that plays a vital role in plot development.
Since the days of Shakespeare, when women roles were played by men and were often ... Show

Whether it s Thelma and Louise on the road, putting any man unlucky enough to cross them in
his place, or the trio of ladies in 9 to 5 standing up for all women in the workplace, these women
deserve the title of heroine just as much as more masculine leading ladies such as Katniss
Everdeen and Lara Croft. There are plenty of examples sprinkled throughout film history of
leading ladies showing bravery while touching on the hot topics of society of their time. To
dismiss them due to the fact that they do not contain the traditional characteristics of athleticism
and masculinity that we expect of heroes would be narrow minded. They should be judged on
their own merit and be celebrated for their contribution to film. They all played a vital role in the
development of the leading female actress. Without them helping to evolve what we accept as a
leading female character, the more extreme warrior type heroines might not have a place in film

Religion And Religion In The Canterbury Tales By Geoffrey...
Religion is often seen in a good light, but the same does not necessarily apply to those who
follow said religion. In The Canterbury Tales, Geoffrey Chaucer explores this contrast between
religion and follower, during the medieval period. The work tells of a group of pilgrims on their
way to Canterbury to pray to Saint Thomas Becket, who are given the challenge of telling the best
tale. In the Prologue the simple minded narrator describes all the people on the journey and their
characters. These travelers come from various classes, occupations, and attributes; ordinarily, this
includes people that are part of the Christian church. Using the natures of the Friar, Monk, and
Parson in particular, Chaucer shows the corruption of the religious... Show more content on

As a result of his immense greed, he is determined to get money out of anyone that he possibly
could. Although society puts leaders on high pedestals in regards to character, they can use their
power for self gain and pleasure, such as indulging in wealth and intoxication, which is in no way
righteous. Equally as sinful, but not as harmful so it is often overlooked, people of a certain religion
tend to ignore the rules set for them to be good followers. For example, the trademark of the
Monk is how ...hunting [is] his sport (Page 99). For being a member of the clergy, the Monk s
reputation should be built on the idea of religion. Based on the fact that it isn t shows how
distorted the Monk s priorities are. He does not do his job, and instead lives how he feels like
living. This type of behavior is not what should be expected out of someone of the church. To
make matters worse, he neglected the Bible which said that ...hunters are not holy men / And
that a monk uncloistered is a mere / Fish out of water... (Page 99). He lives in an unholy way, and
does not see any problem with it. He was to be a monk that only directed his attention to religion
alone. Yet, he defies the regulations set for him as a man of religious authority. He may or may
not acknowledge his flaws, but either way he does not try to live in a more proper manner. The
Monk, like many other people of his time, claims to be a part of Christianity, yet does not act in

Banning Guns On Campuses And Universities
Crime seems to be at an all time high in current times. I feel that this is due to so many people
carrying guns. The safety of all people should be the focus of our society now. One area we
really need to not allow firearms on campuses. This is only one area to focus on. There are
several reason why allowing guns on colleges campuses and universities could be dangerous to
people. First, gun violence seems to lead to an escalation of violent crime. The percentage of
students that could be robbed on their way to class increases . Campuses that do not have metal
detectors to screen the students are at risk for violent crime. Some students could be carrying guns
without legally obtaining methods to carry them. New Orleans campuses have not had the violence
that has taken place at other campuses. It could take place and since bullets have no name on them,
anyone could be the victim. When students leave class late at night there is a risk that they could be
involved and even killed over little things as their tennis shoes, clothes, or money. The violence is
getting worst around the world. All fifty states allow citizens to carry concealed weapons they meet
certain requirements ... only nineteen states has ban carrying a concealed weapon on college
campus...and Louisiana is one of them. Violence on any campus should not be tolerated as it puts
the faculty, staff and students in danger. Additionally, there are students who could snap when
someone makes them angry. Students

Edith Grotberg Theory Of Resilience
The American Psychological Association (APA) defines resilience as the ability to adapt well to
adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats, or even significant sources of stress (APA 2011). According to
Edith Grotberg, a developmental psychologist, Resilience is important because it is the human
capacity to face, overcome and be strengthened by or even transformed by the adversities of life
(1995). Resilienceis the ability to remain positive in the face of adversity, which is not the same as
not having distress or denying it (Music, 2011). Developing this capacity relies on protective
factors within individuals as well as in the family and community. Research has emphasized the

Class and Social Difference in Blood Brothers by Willy...
In the play Blood Brothers Willy Russell explores the differences between a working class
family and a middle class family during the downturn of industry in Liverpool in the 1960 and
70 s, resulting in The Recession in the early 1980 s. There is a twist on the fact that they are just
two opposite class families Mickey and Edward. They are two genetically identical twins; however
Mickey was brought up in a working class family and Eddie in a middle classfamily. By using these
two complete extremes, Russell has explored the history of the British class system in a very
extreme way. Seeing the different class upbringings teaches us about Nature vs. Nurture in society.
Russell chooses to open Blood Brothers with a Narrator speaking a ... Show more content on

This obviously immediately gives us the impression that Edward is from a middle or upper class
family because he uses so much formal language, even when saying bad things. By using this
strong language in their first meeting it gives the audience a clear view of the extremes in the
classes. The audience can find the first meeting quite funny because the actors play the two
extremes in quite humorous ways. Initially this can make the difference in class seem quite a
light subject when really, as we find out later in the play, it is an enormously important subject. I
think Russell is positively biased towards Mickey in this first meeting of the boys, possibly
because Mickey is from a lower class family and so was Russell. I think Russell is biased
because Mickey is bragging for the small things he loves to play with. However, even though
Edward probably has more than Mickey he doesn t make a show of it. Russell has made this first
meeting a very bold statement, as the boy s don t seem to show a difference between each other
in this first scene, they seem like two, normal, seven year old friends even though the difference
between the two classes is very obvious. I think this helps to introduce the differences lightly to
draw the audience in, so that they are ready for the drama that comes, later on in the play.
As the boys grow older, their different classes become more significant to the play. Edward goes off

means the bath; Luncheon on the Grass was exhibited at the Salon de Refuses in 1863. It is
painted with oil on a large canvas by Г‰douard Manet created in between 1862 and 1863. The
painting represents the contrast between a female nude with fully clothed men in a rural setting. By
that time, normally woman in paintings didn t look at viewers straight, especially with nudes.

Also because the two clothed men are wearing dark clothes, the nude female obviously pops out
from the background and grabs viewers attention. I can see where the light hits in different areas,
but the nude female takes the main light source, and therefore, the landscape background smoothed
out the light. Tradition to this time era, Manet s techniques were extraordinary and brush strokes
become much less developed. Most of his brush strokes have been done in free handed. Focusing
on the nude female, her skin is not smoothed out with value of color and brush techniques. Also the
background is containing a rough brush strokes. During this time period, most of the artists are
hiding brush strokes for their technique, but Manet did the opposites. It is obvious to see each
brush stroke in nude female giving a rough complexion. In the background, also this style of rough
brush strokes are made noticeable, and this even seems unfinished. Manet was free with technique.
He did not try to hide or to follow the trends; indeed, some scenes in the painting seem unfinished.
Through the composition, the figures are positioned in central. The interesting thing is that through
this composition, I can draw myself a direct pyramid from. From the foreground nude female
figure rises up to the lady in the water. With this compositional sense, attention falls between the
two men. Men seem very odd and just stuck to be posing because compare to the women two men
seems very dull

The Flea By John Donne And His Coy Mistress By Andrew Marvell
During the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries, poetry was one of the most prevalent
writing styles. There were poets like John Donne and Andrew Marvell who participated in a type
of poetry referred to as metaphysical. Metaphysical poetry essentially is poetry that deals with
things that are more philosophical than anything else. This type of poetry also is very emotion
based but also has logically aspects. These poets have written several bodies of work that can fall
under the metaphysical umbrella. Two examples of metaphysical poems written by these two poets
are The Flea and To His Coy Mistress. Being metaphysical poetry is not the only thing these two
poems have in common.

We are introduced to yet another speaker who is using his words to persuade a woman into
premarital sex. Even though the intent was the same in both poems, each speaker had their own
unique means of convincing the woman.
The authors take two very different approaches to persuade a woman to participate in the same
act. Their approaches are reflective in their use of certain language. In The Flea, the speaker is
taking the approach of comparing the act to the happenings of a flea that bit both the speaker
and the woman. The speaker uses this metaphor through the entirety of the poem. The speaker
goes on to say that the flea has already mixed their blood, yet it is not seen as a sin. In this flea
our two bloods mingled be; Thou know st that this cannot be said A sin, nor shame, nor loss of
maidenhead (Donne,____). The speaker takes this logic and says that the flea mixing their blood
is taking it a step further than just the act of premarital sex, so because they were not punished for
such an act as their blood actually mixing then how can they possibly be punished for having sex
before marriage. The speaker into His Coy Mistress takes a different approach from the very
beginning by blatantly saying that the women s coyness towards him could be seen as a crime.
Had we but world enough and time, This coyness, lady, were no crime (Marvell____). The speaker
is using this as a means on again romanticizing the situation. He is saying that in a

Doublespeak In Advertising
I agree with your claim that MasterCard unethically uses doublespeak in this advertisement, and
that was one of my main ideas (my first one to be specific) in my original answer also. It s
interesting how when we think as critical receivers, we can clearly see the juxtaposition between
what s said and its actual underlying meaning. For example, when they say free , it will actually
cost a lot of money, and when they discuss offers associated with having this card, they fail to
mention the fees and terms that are associated with the card. While any misleading or confusing
persuasive language can be considered doublespeak, this specific utilization of words with opposite
meanings exemplifies George Orwell s newspeak from 1984 (Larson,... Show more content on

Obviously as an advertiser it makes sense that you only show the positive benefits associated
with the product, but in this case, the positive elements aren t even realistic. This ties in to my
point about the association principle being woven into the ad to connect a credit card with
happiness and family values. The association principle connects these ideals which in reality are
not connected at all (Campbell et. al., 2013). For instance, if I want to show my family that I
value and love them, I can spend time with them and verbally convey affection. I find it
inappropriate and unethical that MasterCard is implementing exaggerated emotional appeals
(pathos) to suggest that a family s happiness is connected to their world credit card; after all, as
the age old adage goes, Money can t buy happiness. In addition, as I have claimed in my original
answer and some of my other responses, the emotional branding used by MasterCard is marketing a
lifestyle more than a product (Goodman et. al., 2003), and using this kind of marketing strategy
often results in fallacious and unethical persuasive tactics. There s some excellent ideas here,
William, and I ll be sure to implement them in our group s final answer this

In parasitism, the parasite benefits, but the host is harmed. Symbiosis is the close interaction
between organisms of different species for an extended time. Symbiotic relationships differ on the
effects of the other species while one benefits. The three major symbiotic relationships are
commensalism, mutualism, and parasitism. In commensalism, the species benefits and the other
remains unaffected. One example are barnacles hitching a ride on the skin of a whale. In parasitism,
the parasite benefits and the host is harmed. The parasite lives on or in the host and benefits by
feeding on it. An example of this are tapeworms that live inside the intestines of organisms. The
organism is harmed, since they are not getting the nutrients from the food that they are eating, but
the tapeworm benefits, as it is getting the food and nutrients it needs to survive. Tapeworm larvae
can also migrate throughout the body, therefore harming other organs and tissues as well. In
mutualism, both species benefit. One example are lichens, which are formed by fungi and algae
living together. The algae undergo photosynthesis, which provides food, and the fungi provides

Research Paper On Dodo Bird
The Mysterious Dodo
Picture yourself running through the woods as quickly as your legs can move you, with a heap of
emotions running through your brain. You feel betrayed, offended, helpless, terrified. You had
never been an aggressive animal. You were friendly, you didn t eat animals, and it s not like you
had the abilities to overpower anything if you did eat them. This may aid your imagination of what
the dodo bird went through while being hunted down by the Portuguese. The dodo bird may seem
like a tedious animal; However, the bird, it s misconception, and how it became extinct are
intriguing in a way that you may find odd.
The dodo bird is not an extremely famous bird, like the beautiful parrot, or the perfectly pink
flamingo. Many people aren t educated on what the bird was genuinely like, or even what the
bird is. The dodo is a flightless bird from an island in the Indian Ocean called Mauritius. It is part
of the Raphidae family(Dodo 1), which consists of pigeons and doves. The dodo clings to the
forest in Mauritius and has been extinct since the 17th century(Extinct Bird 1), eating only nuts,
fruits, or seeds it found on the ground(Viral Stats). The dodo bird has a comical appearance, that
one could only imagine. It s unique visuals were small useless wings, thick yellow legs, and a
tuft of feathers high on its rear end (Dodo 2). These odd characteristics made it easy for people to
deride the dodo bird. In terms of size, the dodo was larger than a turkey, it

A Study On Annan Academy s Geography Class
Carlisle is the only city in Cumbria, automatically making it the administrative centre of the county.
Other than administration, Carlisle has several other areas in which its activities are focused, such
as tourism, shopping, and education. These areas are known as settlement functions. Functions tend
to change and develop as a city grows over the years. Carlisleis a successful city, but whether or not
this is due to its changing functions is debatable.
Annan Academy s Geography class went to Carlisle in September 2015 to obtain primary research
data of the city s geographical issues.
Method 1
In order to figure out some of the current main functions of Carlisle, the first research method used
for this report was two RICEPOTS surveys of different areas in Carlisle the CBD (the square near
the Tourist InformationCentre) and the area from West Tower Street to Corporation Road. These
areas were chosen to display a contrast in the land usage of two areas of Carlisle which are close
together. The RICEPOTS surveys were completed by walking around the areas and annotating a
map with the purpose of each building in the area. Once both maps were annotated, the information
was put into a table before being compiled into a comparative bar graph (see: Graph 1).
The results show that West Tower Street to Corporation Road is largely residential, with 35 terraced
houses, and that the square near the Tourist Information Centre is largely commercial with 47

My Struggles with English Composition
...As for all the seniors, I want you to challenge yourselves this year and don t think you re going
to cruise through to graduation. Mrs. Smith, County High School. Although some seniors in high
school refuse to take a hard schedule, I decided to take a challenging composition course my last
year of high school and learned more than ever before from it. My teacher, Mr. Bacz, focused
mostly on vocabulary, grammar, and how to right an essay. Each one of these subjects combined
to give me a year of hard work, which eventually paid off.
Since, I have always struggled in English, I thought this class was just going to be another hardship.

Along with vocabulary, grammar is another area in which I had problems. For instance, I was
still getting confused about proper sentence structure. I worked on this by completing a 30 page
workbook full of different sentences to assist me. From learning verbs to compound complex
sentences the worksheets covered it all. I was starting to realize this class and Mr. Horbacz
were all about fine tuning me for my big transition into college. The next thing I did was learn
how to organize my thoughts onto paper and write an essay. I knew how to write a basic five
paragraph essay, but my skills were limited. These are all things I struggled with at the beginning
of the year, but soon I started to grow in each area.
After the first couple of months, improvements in my school work were beginning to show, and
I liked it. My vocabulary abilities were revealing themselves as well. For example, when I would
read homework in other classes the words that would sometimes confuse me began to make sense.
I would also listen to other people s conversations on the street and it seemed as if the vocabulary
words that I had just studied the week before, could be heard. It was the weirdest thing. Likewise,
my grammar was developing nicely. For instance, when I would read books I could see the
different ways sentences were portrayed. Things that I never picked up before were coming to me
so much easier. This class that

Compare And Contrast Standardized And Differentiated...
(b)Compare and contrast standardized, concentrated and differentiated global marketing. Illustrate
each strategy with an example from a global companyThe standardized model has a centralized and
controlled strategy maker through the home office initiative. The home office aspires integration
and interdependence among subsidiaries to intensify the efficiency in producing the same products
using the same technology and machineries with little need of research or product modification. At
the rare times it developed a new product, its value to the firm is positively disproportionate as
subsidiaries would impart the products success if the market respond to this innovation.
Due to sharing of resources, coordination costs that can have internal/ personal costs increases. The
model also undermines the potential of securing higher profits through local responsiveness while
products tend to be mass produced.
With respect to product, standardized marketing differs from its opposite extreme concentrated

Through a coordinated effort, RSA worked with law enforcement, the intelligence community, and
other commercial entities.
RSA s actions stand in contrast to many corporations that do not acknowledge breaches of sensitive
information systems for fear of alarming shareholders and exposing the corporation to lawsuits
(Gross, 2011). Even when evidence points to nation state involvement (most often China), many
companies still refuse to acknowledge breaches. The fear of offending the Chinese and jeopardizing
their share of that country s exploding markets is reason enough to remain quiet (Gross). Despite
mounting evidence, the U.S. government, for its part, has been fecklessly circumspect in calling
out the Chinese (Gross).
Incident Recovery
Recovery after the breach at RSA was not limited to the RSA environment. Due to the widespread
implementation of RSA tokens across industry and government agencies (and its contractors) the
breach had far reaching implications across multiple sectors.
In an attempt to mitigate potential attacks on its customers environments related to the stolen
information, RSA outlined nine steps customers could take to harden their IT infrastructures and
reduce their chances of being breached (Gov InfoSecurity). While the recommended steps were

Duty Honor Country Speech Summary

The Militaries Unspoken Will
The Speech Duty, Honor, Country was delivered by General Douglas MacArthur to the Cadets of
the Military Academy in West Point, New York. General Douglas MacArthur was being awarded
with the Sylvanus Thayer Award to commend the General for all his hard work and devotion to the
Military. The Award is a memorable tribute to the ideals that inspired the late General Sylvanus
Thayer, who was also known as the Father of West Point . In General Douglas MacArthurs Duty,
Honor, Country speech, he used rhetorical appeals, diction, and repetition to convey his thoughts
about the Military and its present leaders along with its future leaders.

at the age of 84. Following his time after graduation, MacArthur was commissioned as a junior
officer in the Army Corps of Engineers and spent the next decade fulfilling a variety of duties.
This early period in his military career was marked by frequent promotions and led to posts in
countries around the world, including the Philippines, Japan, Mexico and, in 1914, France. In
1918 he participated in the St. Mihiel, Meuse Argonne and Sedan offensives, during which he
repeatedly distinguished himself as a capable military leader. Upon returning from Europe,
MacArthur became the superintendent of West Point, a post he held for the next three years.
During this time he was promoted to brigadier general of the Army. In 1930, MacArthur was
promoted to general and selected as the Army chief of staff. Over the next few years his efforts
were primarily devoted to maintaining a military that, like the rest of the country, was crippled by
the Great Depression. He also spoke frequently of what he considered to be the increasingly
serious threat of Communism, both in the United States and abroad. In 1935, President Franklin
D. Roosevelt chose MacArthur as his military adviser to the Philippines and sent him there to
establish a defensive military force. In July 1941, MacArthur was recalled to active duty and
became commander of U.S. forces in the Pacific. A Japanese invasion of the Philippines that same

Essay Lost Colony of Roanoke
For centuries, the Lost Colony of Roanoke Island has been a controversial issue. Many theories
exist that explain the disappearance of the colony. Some theories suggest that the colonists left the
island to live with friendly neighboring Indians. Others suggest that a hurricane wiped out the
colony or that a savage Indian tribe massacred them. The possibility of disease destroying them is
also a debated topic. However, evidence indicates that the men and women left behind on Roanoke
Islanddid not die because of massacre, disease, or starvation but went to live with the Croatoan

Furthermore, physical proof indicates that after John White left the colony to return to England, the
colonists intermarried with the Indians. According to David Beers Quinn, author of Set Fair for
Roanoke, the colonists and the Indians did intermarry (350). The colonists intermarrying with the
Indians would cause some of the offspring to have genetic traits unusual for Indians, such as blue
eyes or light colored hair. In his article about the lost colony, Scott Dawson writes that an explorer
named John Lawson discovered blue eyed Indians dressed in English apparel; Dawson also says
that the Indians claimed to have White descendants (6). Therefore, by making Manteo lord of
Roanoke and intermarrying with the Indians, the colonists proved their strong relationship with the
Croatoans.
Upon his return, John White met with no indications of the deaths of the colonists. Linda Kramer
states that John White and the colonists agreed that in the event of leaving Roanoke, the colonists
in a noticeable location would engrave the name of the place to which they were departing and
that an engraving of a Maltese cross above the name of the location would signal leaving because
of danger (3). When White returned to the colony after three years of being absent, he discovered
one of the signals the colonists promised to engrave if they left. The Article Lost: An American

and why is it important? Greece is North of the Mediterranean sea, West of the Aegean Sea, East of

because we replicated their culture, specifically their olympics, theatre, and architecture. Their
culture is still honored and used today. Culture is a habit or belief that is shared among people, we

technology of news on paper is in its lifecycle? Where is it likely headed?
The newspaper industry is undergoing a radical change in three primary areas caused by
technology. First, the underlying two sided business model is changing. With the Advent of
internet, news content is easily and freely available from various sources but lacks quality
journalism and credibility. Revenues from online advertising are not large enough to compensate for
decline in revenues from print advertising amp; subscription. Newspaper industry is experiencing

Revenues from circulation in 2011 have marginally increased from 2010. The difference in
revenues is $2940M $2323B = $617M and we are only recovering an estimated $118M. There is
variable cost savings associated with the loss of print subscribers but this is probably offset with
loss of advertising revenue and development costs for digital solutions.
Recommendation NYT should continue with its Paywall initiative as upwards of 40%
incoming traffic is from other sites i.e. Google, yahoo etc. Internet delivery on mobile devices is
also becoming popular. Additionally, lots of users are able to access news content via leaky
paywall. This reflects users increasing interest in accessing NYT news content in digital format.
Digital edition is in early stages for adoption by end users. New sources and models for revenue
generation or sharing are to be discovered and streamlined. Internet will become platform of choice
for majority of users in near future. New industry needs to continue exploring methods to present
news content to user preferred way and adapt to new and different streams of revenue. The digital

customers are deemed to be more likely to increase their spending as well. Conversely, downturns
in spending tend to be imitated as well.
TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATIONS Technological innovations can have an acute impact on
business cycles. Indeed, technological breakthroughs in communication, transportation,
manufacturing, and other operational areas can have a ripple effect throughout an industry or an
economy. Technological innovations may relate to production and use of a new product or
production of an existing product using a new process. The video imaging and personal computer
industries, for instance, have undergone immense technological innovations in recent years, and the
latter industry in particular has had a pronounced impact on the business operations of countless
organizations. However, technological innovations and consequent increases in investment take
place at irregular intervals. Fluctuating investments, due to variations in the pace of technological
innovations, lead to business fluctuations in the economy.
There are many reasons why the pace of technological innovations varies. Major innovations do not
occur every day. Nor do they take place at a constant rate. Chance factors greatly influence the

Answer the following questions, using information from this week s readings. Respond to each
question in 100 to 200 words.
1. Briefly explain the five choices speakers can make. How do these elements determine a speech s
success or failure?
The five choices a speaker can make involves creativity, preparation, style, delivery method, and
retention. Creativity is generating resources during learning and examination while offering a
conclusion so that the concepts of the speech are supported distinctly. Preparation is arranging
resources for the main point, associating the main point with the bulk of the speech while
delivering the flow of the speech. Delivery method is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Having the elements of a clear tone, captivating, educational, or motivating speech, and the proper
body language gives the impression of bonding with the speaker and the audience. Compassion and
consideration is important when delivering the speech to the audience. This provides the audience
with the sense that the speaker understands exactly what he or she is speaking about and possibly
feel the exact way about the speech being delivered.
3. What is the difference between hearing and listening? What are some strategies you could
employ to improve your listening skills? What does it mean to listen critically?
When sound waves are transformed by the electrochemical impulses into the brain, the wonderful
sense of hearing is experienced. Listening is actually paying attention to the speaker and
understanding what was said. Hearing is being able to hear what is said but not understand the
meaning of the speech. Hearing and listening are essential elements to comprehending and
determining what was recently received by the audience. Here are some methods to enhance the
listening environment for the audience involves: minimizing potential disturbances, divert the

Essay on Hairstyle and Job
Being a hairstylist, it is all about the skills: The artistic skills, the communication skills, also, the
skill to be patient and respectful. Some people have a difficult time trying to obtain all of these
skills. Hairstylists have a tough job. No one really understands what the stylist goes through. The
pressure to get things right and to make the client happy is a complicated situation. The job of a
hairstylist is to create, develop, and enhance client s personal appearance. However, it is not all
about beauty, you have to be able to interact good with the costumers. Being a hairdresser, your
job is to shampoo, cut, colour, and style a client s hair. While you do all this, it is your duty to

But there will always be that one hairdresser that is perfect for you. That will help choose a hairstyle
for you and that will be communicative. In this career field, as a hairstylist, you do not make much
money. The money you make, plus tips, is $11.13. Which means that annual your wage in this
career is $23.140. Now this is not a lot of money, but for someone who loves their job it will
work just fine. However, there is another way that you can go and you might make more money;
is if you rent your chair from the salon. This way you get what you make on every hairstyle. But
the downfall is that you have to buy all of your own products and tools. Which, I think renting
your own chair is the way to go, because than all you have to pay for is your chair nothing else
and you get all the money you make. When you have a family and so many bills to pay, this is
not enough money to live off of. However, it will do if the husband has a job as well. Hairstylist
is a job that will never have a dull moment. You learn something new every day. This is a career I
would enjoy doing every day. You get to meet so many new people and help them with so many
different things. Even though the money isn t good, if you love the job, it s a job for

Review Of The Classic Game Show A Bit Of Bully
Blog 1 Microgaming brings players a bit of bully Back in the 1990s British TV was dominated
not by reality shows and talent show competitions, but by family friendly game shows instead.
The classic game show may not be as prominent as it once was, but they still deliver fond
memories of how TV used to be. When you think about classic game shows that offered wall to
wall fun, Bullseye immediately springs to mind. The darts based show may not have had all the
credentials of a smash hit upon initial release, but as time passed it would become a national
treasure. Given that nostalgia is a theme of choice in 2015, an online slots version of Bullseye was
bound to arrive sooner or later. On December 1st Microgaming delivered what many had... Show

Anzac Day
Having a well defined set of values, principles and rules in the company s Code of Conduct helps
employees in knowing the difference between right and wrong, and holds them fully
accountable on any wrongdoing. Therefore, every company must have a clear Code of Conduct
and must communicate it to all the employees. Based on Scott McIntyre s case and other media
companies COC, SBS has to adopt an updated COC composed of precise rules and standards.
Scott McIntyre s post regarding inappropriate and disrespectful comments about Anzac Day is
not an act that is mentioned clearly as a restriction in SBS s key principles. Thus, this ambiguity
created the misunderstanding of rules and values between SBS and the reporter. Therefore, it is
crucial to elaborate more on the principles. On the other hand, the other media companies adopt
a stronger COC. The first example is Los Angeles Times: one of their basic principles is to
always merge the professional life with the personal one especially when using social media
because the reporter should not, in any way, embarrass the company or let the viewers question
its authenticity and impartiality. Even when using strict privacy settings, the reporter should
always keep in mind that everything posted or shared on social media is considered public. The
second example is the independence outside work in NPR s COC: it is mentioned that the
reporters comments and reactions should be guided by their news reporting, not by their personal
point of views. This rule is not only during the reporter s professional appearances, but also on his
or her social media accounts. The third example is the strong language in BBC News COC: strong...

Near Infrared Spectroscopy
Over the last decade, medical imaging has acquired the use of optical methods and devices.
Instruments based upon the use of light have been of great interest to account for the significant
need of having a noninvasive, safe and continuous way of examining many parameters, and in
particular the oxygenation of living tissue. These devices may be used clinically for intensive care
patients or routinely by doctors or nurses for general check up purposes. This project involves the
research, design, development and testing of such a system and aims to serve as an investigation
into the estimation of muscle tissue oxygenation.
The importance of this is that around 40% of the total body weight represents skeletal muscle.
During work Skeletal muscles deoxygenate to different extents depending on the type of muscle,
the blood flow response and the type of exercise. However, under some pathological conditions the
changes in oxygen saturation may occur diversely. Today there are several methods for the
determination of partial oxygen saturation consumption. However, these methods are often invasive

monitoring patients. NIRS can be used to non invasively and continuously measure oxygenation of
tissue within the body. Today it is mainly used to measure oxygen saturation and other
hemodynamic variables within the brain tissue. The most interesting application of this technique
is to apply its use to the muscle. So why use Near Infrared

Future Challenges
Historically speaking, Canada has never been a great market for American retailers. The Canadian
dollar was weak, costs were higher, and with limited real estate development, it was difficult to
find space. Not anymore, now the door to Canada is opening wider than ever thanks to a stronger
Canadian dollar, a relatively robust economy, and a loosening of the commercial real estate
market, in part because of the downsizing of some longtime retailers like Sears Canada. For
American retailers, Canada s allure is simple; sales per square foot at Canadian malls were almost
50 percent higher in 2011 than sales per square foot at American malls. This is a budding market
that Nordstrom will need to act ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In February 1990, after a three month investigation, the Washington State Department of Labor
amp; Industries alleged that the company had systematically violated state laws by failing to
pay employees for a variety of duties, such as delivering merchandise and doing inventory work.
The agency ordered Nordstrom to change its compensation and record keeping procedures, and
to pay back wages to some of Nordstrom s 30,000 employees. Soon after, the firm created a $15
million reserve to pay back wage claims. The company, however, remained a target of class action
lawsuits on these matters, which were finally settled out of court in early 1993 when Nordstrom
agreed to pay a set percentage of compensation to employees who worked at Nordstrom from 1987
to 1990. The settlement cost the company between $20 million and $30 million.
Specific Competitive Advantages
One specific competitive advantage Macy s holds over Nordstrom s is its target demographic.
While Nordstrom s focuses mainly on career moms between the ages of 35 and 50, Macy s
recently launched Millennial strategy states that its merchandise areas primarily serve ages 19 30.
The millennial generation (ages 13 30) is now America s largest and most diverse generation,
spending an estimated $65 billion each year for the type of merchandise sold at Macy s. A much
larger demographic gives Macy s a competitive advantage.
On the other hand, Nordstrom s has a distinct advantage over

The Causes And Factors For The Trafficking Essay
ROOT CAUSES OF TRAFFICKING Causes and the factors for the trafficking are diverse among
nation to another nation. It includes various social, economic and cultural factors. There are some
common factors like the gender wise more girls are trafficked for forced sexual exploitation which
is seen in many nations. Poverty, armed conflicts, political unrest, lacking enforcement of human
rightsand natural disasters etc will increase the trafficking of human. War and internal conflict in
nation is one of the important context which leads to large number of neglected children, orphan
children, street children etc which will increase the chance of many children getting trafficked.
Poverty has a close relation with vulnerability and marginalization of human and is one of the
causes for trafficking among the children. The situation in which parents sell children with
positive motive and negative motive is very common. Parents think of at least saving the child
from the poverty they face so that they sell the children thinking it provides the children more
opportunity for development. Gender based stereotypes among the people which consider
females with low value are one among the causes for trafficking of girls. Girl children are been
trafficked for forced prostitution, child marriage etc. Female infanticide is an indirect cause for
trafficking of girls. Most of the places lack females for marriage and

Founding Brothers by Joseph J. Ellis Essay
Founding Brothers Essay The founding fathers, or as the book calls them the founding brothers, are
an assorted group of men from wildly different backgrounds. In political terms, they were divided.
Yet, they came to together to help shape this country into the place it is today. Now on their journey
towards the making of this country they did encounter some trouble. They encountered heated
debates among themselves though for getting through these debates they show just why they
deserve to be called, founding brothers. There were several issues in which the founding brothers
found themselves on opposite sides of an issue. In the case of Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton,

Madison saw this as being treasonous and tried to have it repealed, but he was facing George
Washington, who was the most respected person in the US at the time. Finally in the Sedition Act
which was signed in by President John Adams, it was aimed at silencing editors who openly talked
bad about the government. It was greatly opposed by most Republicans and greatly supported by
Federalists. Later, as it was put into motion it actually backfired, with many immigrants and
former Federalists defecting to the Republicans. All these things were issues that were debated by
the founding brothers, but their voices are what also made them significant. These men,
Hamilton, Burr, Jefferson, Franklin, Washington, Adams, and Madison, were important
contributors to development of our country in many ways. Hamilton had tried to push policies,
funding and assumption, in order to fix America s debt problem with foreign and domestic debt
and restoring America s credit with European bankers. His policy for funding was passed, which

The Secret Life Of Bees Movie And Book Comparison Essay
The Secret Life of Bees is about a fourteen year old girl who lost her mother when she was four.
Ever since her mother died, her father T. Ray, short for Terence Ray would abuse her. Rosaleen is
the maid. She acts as a motherly figure toward Lily. Lily, the fourteen year old girl, and Rosaleen,
run away to Tiburon, South Carolina after she finds a picture of her motherwith Tiburon on the
back. They find a pink house after they see honey with an exact same picture on it as one that Lily
has. They find that three sisters, May, June, and August Boatwright live there. As they stay there,
they feel more and more like they belong there. The movie has added and taken away some parts
and scenes in the book, but also, there are some similarities.
Similarities:
Between the book and the movie, there are some similarities. For instance, when Lily goes out to

the movie didn t give me a chance to understand these characters. I feel like if I watched the

book first. Finally, I would have included the daughters of Mary and Mary Day more in the movie.
Without it, it would be harder for the watcher to understand what the purpose of them is. All in all,
I enjoyed the book much more than the movie due to its amount of detail and spacing of

Ethics is the study of what is right and wrong in human conduct. Environmental ethics studies the
effects of human s moral relationships on the environment and everything within it (Stanford

human duties, obligations, and responsibilities with regard to the Earth s natural environmentand all
of the animals and plants that inhabit it (Taylor, 1989). The purpose of this paper is to reveal

These perspectives are anthropocentric or human centered and view all non human life as less
important than humans themselves. Environmental ethics challenges these beliefs by questioning
the assumed moral superiority of human beings to members of other species on earth (SEP, 2008).
Preservation of the environment is essential to the preservation of the human race. Global Warming
is the number one concern threatening the very existence of humans and everything within the
environment today. The human race is to blame for the destruction of the natural world. The
environmental issues that are threatening all human and non human life today, started in the
industrial revolution and the discovery of oil The need to improve the quality of life resulted in the
construction of factories to mass produce products for consumers. These factories were powered by
fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas. The combustion of these fossil fuels emitted great quantities of
pollutants that remain in the Earths atmosphere to this day and is the number one cause of global
warming. However, in ethics one cannot evaluate just one thing. In ethics, as in nature, everything
is connected to everything else (Partridge, 1998). Deforestation for agricultural purposes and the
expansion of human habitats is happening around the world. This

You just disappear from the world. Not even a single trace of you. 8:15, August 6, 1945 was a day so terrifying, a day so horrifying the people s stories will be in our hearts forever. There were many places we went around in Hiroshima, Miyajima and Kyoto but to me the Peace Park was the most memorable. • 4. Internal And External Factors That Affect The Corporate... There is a conflict in the workplace due to both the internal and external factors. With a stressed economy and ever snowballing prices of basic amenities like food, gas and other numerous commodities, these peripheral strains cause problems on employee s home life. These external conflicts are seen on their work and internal conflictarises. These peripheral stresses put hard hitting on the economic conditions employers. Often the employees feel their work area as burden and consequently lack of interest in the workarises. Instability in an organization can be due to the followingreasons: ORGANISATIONAL: When there is reformation and reorganizing taking place in an organization in a short time frame, leads to subversion of the organization. It occurs due to the following: (a)Change in organizational structure. The decision makers are not aware that how reformation and reorganizing process will affect the corporate culture. It is fairly noticeable ,that not only the structure has been transformed but also the cultural change has taken place instantly. Cultural changes will necessitate much more time than changing the organizational structures. When there are melds or procurements there are clangs in some segments which leads to aggravation of the employees. So the managers are pleased on these cultural issues which are handled by the decision formulators of the company. The Regime Of The Cuban Revolution Cuba is a nation that has been conquered by many people over the years and because of decolonization it is hard for the Cuban people to get rid of the rulers who wanted to influence their history. Fidel Castro gave the Cuban people independence. He was a forceful and cunning dictator who controlled the country and negatively effected the economy. The United States did not support the arrogant dictator s establishment of communism which led to an economic downfall. Due to Castro s insistence on practicing communism, the Cuban economy suffered as the government nationalized businesses while the United States implemented a trade embargo. In 1940 a dictator named Fulgencio Batistacame to power in Cubaand was the President there until 1944. He then returned in 1952 and ruled until 1959 (Levinson). Batista was a dictator and an ally of the United States. The United States supported Batista and his dictatorship because they felt like they could control and overpower him, not making him any sort of threat. Between 1940 1944 Batista sponsored a large program of public works, expanded the educational system, and fostered the growth of the economy. • 7. Traditional Stereotypes Of Heroines In Film Heroines in Film With the recent trend in cinema of warrior type heroines such as Katniss Everdeen, it is easy to lose sight of the actual meaning of heroine, and dismiss past leading actresses that don t fit that mold. The traditional stereotype of a hero being strong, athletic, and violent should not be the defining definition of what the audience views as heroes. Courage and plot development should be considered first and foremost as to the legitimacy of being called a hero. That same checklist should be applied to heroines. While it is becoming more and more common, a heroine in film does not need to mirror the traditional male counterpart, she must simply be a woman of character and bravery that plays a vital role in plot development. Since the days of Shakespeare, when women roles were played by men and were often ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whether it s Thelma and Louise on the road, putting any man unlucky enough to cross them in his place, or the trio of ladies in 9 to 5 standing up for all women in the workplace, these women deserve the title of heroine just as much as more masculine leading ladies such as Katniss Everdeen and Lara Croft. There are plenty of examples sprinkled throughout film history of leading ladies showing bravery while touching on the hot topics of society of their time. To dismiss them due to the fact that they do not contain the traditional characteristics of athleticism and masculinity that we expect of heroes would be narrow minded. They should be judged on their own merit and be celebrated for their contribution to film. They all played a vital role in the development of the leading female actress. • 9. Religion And Religion In The Canterbury Tales By Geoffrey... Religion is often seen in a good light, but the same does not necessarily apply to those who follow said religion. In The Canterbury Tales, Geoffrey Chaucer explores this contrast between religion and follower, during the medieval period. The work tells of a group of pilgrims on their way to Canterbury to pray to Saint Thomas Becket, who are given the challenge of telling the best tale. In the Prologue the simple minded narrator describes all the people on the journey and their characters. • 10. Banning Guns On Campuses And Universities Crime seems to be at an all time high in current times. I feel that this is due to so many people carrying guns. The safety of all people should be the focus of our society now. One area we really need to not allow firearms on campuses. This is only one area to focus on. There are several reason why allowing guns on colleges campuses and universities could be dangerous to people. First, gun violence seems to lead to an escalation of violent crime. The percentage of students that could be robbed on their way to class increases . Campuses that do not have metal detectors to screen the students are at risk for violent crime. Some students could be carrying guns without legally obtaining methods to carry them. New Orleans campuses have not had the violence that has taken place at other campuses. It could take place and since bullets have no name on them, anyone could be the victim. When students leave class late at night there is a risk that they could be involved and even killed over little things as their tennis shoes, clothes, or money. The violence is getting worst around the world. All fifty states allow citizens to carry concealed weapons they meet certain requirements ... only nineteen states has ban carrying a concealed weapon on college campus...and Louisiana is one of them. Violence on any campus should not be tolerated as it puts the faculty, staff and students in danger. Additionally, there are students who could snap when someone makes them angry. Students ... In the play Blood Brothers Willy Russell explores the differences between a working class family and a middle class family during the downturn of industry in Liverpool in the 1960 and 70 s, resulting in The Recession in the early 1980 s. There is a twist on the fact that they are just two opposite class families Mickey and Edward. They are two genetically identical twins; however Mickey was brought up in a working class family and Eddie in a middle classfamily. By using these two complete extremes, Russell has explored the history of the British class system in a very extreme way. This obviously immediately gives us the impression that Edward is from a middle or upper class family because he uses so much formal language, even when saying bad things. By using this strong language in their first meeting it gives the audience a clear view of the extremes in the classes. The audience can find the first meeting quite funny because the actors play the two extremes in quite humorous ways. Initially this can make the difference in class seem quite a light subject when really, as we find out later in the play, it is an enormously important subject. I think Russell is positively biased towards Mickey in this first meeting of the boys, possibly because Mickey is from a lower class family and so was Russell. I think Russell is biased because Mickey is bragging for the small things he loves to play with. However, even though Edward probably has more than Mickey he doesn t make a show of it. Russell has made this first meeting a very bold statement, as the boy s don t seem to show a difference between each other in this first scene, they seem like two, normal, seven year old friends even though the difference between the two classes is very obvious. I think this helps to introduce the differences lightly to draw the audience in, so that they are ready for the drama that comes, later on in the play. I can see where the light hits in different areas, but the nude female takes the main light source, and therefore, the landscape background smoothed out the light. Tradition to this time era, Manet s techniques were extraordinary and brush strokes become much less developed. Most of his brush strokes have been done in free handed. Focusing on the nude female, her skin is not smoothed out with value of color and brush techniques. Also the background is containing a rough brush strokes. During this time period, most of the artists are hiding brush strokes for their technique, but Manet did the opposites. It is obvious to see each brush stroke in nude female giving a rough complexion. In the background, also this style of rough brush strokes are made noticeable, and this even seems unfinished. Manet was free with technique. He did not try to hide or to follow the trends; indeed, some scenes in the painting seem unfinished. Through the composition, the figures are positioned in central. The interesting thing is that through this composition, I can draw myself a direct pyramid from. From the foreground nude female figure rises up to the lady in the water. There were poets like John Donne and Andrew Marvell who participated in a type of poetry referred to as metaphysical. Metaphysical poetry essentially is poetry that deals with things that are more philosophical than anything else. This type of poetry also is very emotion based but also has logically aspects. These poets have written several bodies of work that can fall under the metaphysical umbrella. Two examples of metaphysical poems written by these two poets are The Flea and To His Coy Mistress. Even though the intent was the same in both poems, each speaker had their own unique means of convincing the woman. The authors take two very different approaches to persuade a woman to participate in the same act. Their approaches are reflective in their use of certain language. In The Flea, the speaker is taking the approach of comparing the act to the happenings of a flea that bit both the speaker and the woman. The speaker uses this metaphor through the entirety of the poem. The speaker goes on to say that the flea has already mixed their blood, yet it is not seen as a sin. In this flea our two bloods mingled be; Thou know st that this cannot be said A sin, nor shame, nor loss of maidenhead (Donne,____). Doublespeak In Advertising I agree with your claim that MasterCard unethically uses doublespeak in this advertisement, and that was one of my main ideas (my first one to be specific) in my original answer also. It s interesting how when we think as critical receivers, we can clearly see the juxtaposition between what s said and its actual underlying meaning. For example, when they say free , it will actually cost a lot of money, and when they discuss offers associated with having this card, they fail to mention the fees and terms that are associated with the card. While any misleading or confusing persuasive language can be considered doublespeak, this specific utilization of words with opposite meanings exemplifies George Orwell s newspeak from 1984 (Larson,... Obviously as an advertiser it makes sense that you only show the positive benefits associated with the product, but in this case, the positive elements aren t even realistic. This ties in to my point about the association principle being woven into the ad to connect a credit card with happiness and family values. The association principle connects these ideals which in reality are not connected at all (Campbell et. al., 2013). For instance, if I want to show my family that I value and love them, I can spend time with them and verbally convey affection. I find it inappropriate and unethical that MasterCard is implementing exaggerated emotional appeals (pathos) to suggest that a family s happiness is connected to their world credit card; after all, as the age old adage goes, Money can t buy happiness. In addition, as I have claimed in my original answer and some of my other responses, the emotional branding used by MasterCard is marketing a lifestyle more than a product (Goodman et. al., 2003), and using this kind of marketing strategy often results in fallacious and unethical persuasive tactics. The parasite lives on or in the host and benefits by feeding on it. An example of this are tapeworms that live inside the intestines of organisms. Functions tend to change and develop as a city grows over the years. Carlisleis a successful city, but whether or not this is due to its changing functions is debatable. Annan Academy s Geography class went to Carlisle in September 2015 to obtain primary research data of the city s geographical issues. Based on Scott McIntyre s case and other media companies COC, SBS has to adopt an updated COC composed of precise rules and standards. Scott McIntyre s post regarding inappropriate and disrespectful comments about Anzac Day is not an act that is mentioned clearly as a restriction in SBS s key principles. Thus, this ambiguity created the misunderstanding of rules and values between SBS and the reporter. Therefore, it is crucial to elaborate more on the principles.
