Self Definition
Self definition Throughout history black women have been stereotyped and put into many
different roles in society. Black women, it seems, have become the scapegoat for many issues and
problems and have been misrepresented usually by men, mostly by white men. Through the
creation of the mammy, the sapphire, the Jezebel, the strong black woman and more, black women
have been misrepresented and portrayed in negative ways in society. In a response to this labeling,
black women have begun to tell their own stories and speak out for themselves. Through their
writings, black women writers have been able to dispel the stereotypes of black women by showing
the truth, the true story of the women, told by the woman. Doing this, they have been... Show more

I m thinking bout telling Bovanne what a lovely dress Nisi got onВ…instead I just haul the man
on out of thereВ… (Bambara 9). She decides to define herself. Toni Morrison uses situational
irony in a different manner, instead of using the women s thoughts she uses their actions. The
expectations of the reader are because of the upbringing and personal connection of Sula and
Nel. The reader experiences situational irony in upbringing through Nel and irony in the
women s personal connection through Sula. It may seem as if Nel will not become like her
mother, leave the town, travel, become chaotic and take chances. For days afterward she
imagined other trips she would takeВ…Leaving Medallion would be her goal (Morrison 29). Nel
does none of this and settles into the life of the Bottom and contrary to what the reader expects,
she grows up to be almost exactly like her mother. Yet it is not expected that Nel would do this
and it is surprising when it happens. Morrison spends great detail explaining the upbringing of
both Nel and Sula to show that they are exact opposites, foils of each other and the attraction that
each has towards their different lives. Nel, grows up with a strict mother, she is restricted by her
mother and is never able to express herself. Her household is quiet and reserved, in a sense, perfect
and her mother is involved in the community and works hard to kill the imagination and drive of
her daughter. Sula grows up

The Constrained Court Model Created By Gerald N. Rosenberg
The Constrained Court model created by Gerald N. Rosenberg, proves that the courts are weak,
powerless, and ineffective for change among race, class and gender ideologies.. Using Lisa
Frohmann s article, Convictability and Discordant Locales; in which she is reproducing race, class
and gender ideologies in Prosecutorial Decision making . Frohmann uses discordant locales as a
bridge to describe how prosecutors work in sexual assault cases. Rosenberg and Frohmann
demonstrate that the courts are not effective unless they overcome these constraints, set in the
constrained court model. According to Rosenberg and Frohmann social reform is nearly
unachievable, through the district attorney and victim cross examination interview and jury
assumptions. As Rosenberg specified in order to establish social reforms the following constraints;
limited nature of constitutional rights lack of judicial independence, judiciary s lack of power
implantation and inability to develop appropriate policies need to be eradicated.
The Dynamic Court view s claim that a major contribution of the courts in civil rights was to give
the issue clarity, press political elites to act, poke the consciences of whites, legitimate the
grievances of blacks, and fire blacks up to act is not demonstrated. In all the places examined,
where evidence supportive of the claim should exist, it does not. The concerns of clear
acknowledgement, time, and increased press coverage all cut against the theory.

Quantitative Research In The Military
The United States Military is one of Americas largest and long standing corporation to date,
employing over a million members annually, deploying members all over the world, and managing
millions of resources and thousands of skill sets daily. This essay will review quantitative research
methods and tools. explore how the military has learned to apply them on a practical level and
summarize their effectiveness within the military. In conclusion, a hypothesis on the future of
quantitative researchmethods in the military and as a whole will be explored.
INTRODUCTION:
President George W. Bushonce said Leadership to me means duty, honor, country. It means
character, and it means listening from time to time (Bush, G.W., date unknown). The United States
Military is a force like no other and has been around since our colonial days in 1512 where
militiamen would guard their homes and colonies, however, the Unites States Congress didn t
officially create a Military until September 29,1789. The US Military is sometimes frustratingly
slow to grasp new and useful concepts, due to the fact that they are seeped in military traditions .
However in the 1990 s, right about the time that quantitative research started gaining popularity,
military leaders started to take periodic looks at how operations were going, how personnel felt

My Favorite Place At Z Hostel
After an amazing month in the Philippines my last stop was Manila.
The lovely people at Z hostel had invited me to stay with them and as you know design hostels
are my favourite kind of accomodation and the Philippines have some of my favourite places in
the world, so I knew this would be good.
The Area
The hostel is located in Makati, one of the 16 cities that make up Metro Manila. It s the financial
centre of the Philippines and apart from the Stock exchange you ll find lot of entertainment and
several large malls there.
Just around the corner from the hostel there are little markets, restaurants and shops, while Z hostel
itself is located in a quiet small street.

some tips on what to do in Manila and how to get there. Combined with a couple of cute polaroids
of guests, you already get the good vibe right there.
The Room
The rooms have the same cool industrial style and a couple of features that make a traveller s life
so much easier. It s the simple things like having enough outlets that make me really happy when
travelling.
The large night stands are big enough for a laptop (and the wifi is strong enough to actually
watch movies!), there is a large desk in front of the window and the wardrobe is big enough to fit
two backpacks in.
I loved the parquet flooring, which made the room feel much more cozy than the other areas.
The bathroom is less fancy but was super clean and had everything I needed.
The private rooms are located on a sixth floor and I had a great view over Makati from there.
This also means that they are located right underneath the roof terrace, so if there is a party you
will here it, but I simply joined the party and had a brilliant time

I did have a hard time finding sources that were particularly pertaining to how Lilith came into
play and what exactly her midrash was. Once I found a good substantial amount of information,
I laid out an outline for myself to know exactly in what direction I was headed with the research
content and how I should portray it. Luckily for me, there are many different cultures that have
the context of Lilith, even if they do not call her that. They all describe her as a winged demon
whom comes around at night to seduce men (in order for her to produce demonic children) and to
strangle babies. Another thing that I did which ended up really playing out was researching the
many different forms of Midrash and how they worked. The outcome of my research provided me
with many different types, and how you were meant to characterize each one. I was honestly
surprised at how much went into determining how a midrash should be laid out, whether it be
legal, or non legal reasoning s. I also found it interesting to how sources determined Eve as Adams
actual first wife with having no information about Lilith being the actual first wife, regardless of
how that relationship ended up. I would be interested in taking a class about the women of the bible
and having them include the midrash of Lilith to understanding the full force and being taught of
her, rather than reading things that may not stick in my memory. I would be interested in

Essay The History of Rock and Roll
Rock music has come a long way since its development in the early 20th century. The genre,
defined as a merger between rhythm blues and country (Scaruffi, The History of Rock
Music:1955 1966), started out more as an underground market, but ended up becoming a
significant aspect of American popular music history. Rock n Roll music produce many
legendary artists who will for ever be known as innovators of the genre. Elvis Presley and Chuck
Berry were some of the many artists in Rock n Roll who will always live on in their music. Many
teenagers were also to identify it due to its rebellious nature their disapproval of the cold war.
Towards the end of the 1950s, Rock n Roll was ending on a particularly bad note, with a brief
decline:

However, the 1960s was considered at a stand still when it came to popular music. In 1964, when
the Beatles arrived to America, everything changed. I think this was the time when Rock n Roll
was truly reborn as Rock music. The changing of Rock and Roll terminology is illustative. Rock
and Roll became simply Rock , connoting its new heaviness (seriousness) (Cary, pg 31) The
oncoming decade allowed for new developments within rock music and as a result, soared in
popularity. The British invasion, a phrase coined by Walter Cronkite while reporting the arrival of
the Beatles in the USA,and American folk singers were the causes of the rapid changes in Rock
music. It was British bands that altered how Rock n Roll was played, and at the the same time
American folk singers were in the process of changing how its audience, particularly the youth,
perceived it.
The United states has always met with great success in exporting their own popular music to
Europe. However, the impact that the Beatles had on our country started the beginning of what
Star and Waterman call an aggressively reciprocal process (Star and Waterman, pg 255). Which is
true because the Beatles s debut on the Ed Sullivan Show was a huge success 73 million
Americans watched their first appearance on the show. After wards, British invasion groups took
America by the storm. The Beatles arrival in America in 1964

Effects Of Collagen Supplement
Collagen Supplement Side Effects With all the talk about how collagen will keep you young or
reduce joint pain, one has to wonder if collagen supplements safe? Is It Safe? It is very rare that
anyone has a reaction to collagen unless the individual has a food allergy that the collagen is
synthesized from. Collagen can be made from cow, pork, fish, shellfish or chicken. If you are
allergic to any of these protein sources, do not take the supplement. It is not worth risking an
allergic reaction that can result in anything from hives to breathing difficulties or anaphylactic
shock when there are other products that do the same thing but from different animal protein
sources. Those that have an allergy to chicken or egg should avoid collagen... Show more content on

that collagen supplements side effects have negligible side effects. Adding supplements to aid the

that your doctor should discuss both the benefits and side effects of collagen supplements before
beginning any regime. It has been found that taking up to 2.5mg of collagen orally should be safe

Disadvantages Of The Labor Market
Introduction:
Labour market is an abstarction and analytical construction which denotes the context within which
the buyers and sellers of labour come together to determine the pricing and allocation of labour
services. It also emphasizes the involvement of trade unions, government and other related
institutional bodies as well as the application of the bargaining theory in the issue of labour.
Key words: Washington Consensus, Labour Market, Labour Market Flexibility.
The Washington Consensus is a set of 10 economic policy prescriptions considered to constitute the
standard reform package promoted for crisis wracked developing countries Washington, D.C. based
institutions such as the international Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank, and the US Treasury
Department. The term was first used in 1989 by English ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Higher search costs for workers needing to find new jobs. Also firms may have higher
replacement costs for hiring more workers. Firms may end up paying a premium to employment
agencies to help fill gaps in their workforce.
Advantages of Flexible Labour Markets
1.Firms will be more efficient and competitive. Flexible labour markets help keep costs down for
firms. For example, firms can get rid of surplus workers. This may help prevent the firm going
bankrupt and protect jobs in the long term. Arguably with neo liberalisation, it is increasingly
important for firms to remain competitive within the global economy.
2.With increased labour productivity there could be an increase in output and exports. There could
be a lower rate of natural unemployment and lower inflation.
3.Many workers will prefer flexible employment patterns because it suits their life style and offers
a greater range of choice. For example, flexible labour markets have played a role in increasing
female participation rates.
4.May encourage inward investment. Multinational firms may be attracted to invest in countries
with more flexible labour markets, creating jobs in the first

There are many designers in the fashion industry. Few make some kind of an impact on fashion
but most designers rarely have any impact at all. It is truly a once in a generation that designer
comes along and completely alters the fashion universe and becomes a legend. Two examples of
fashion designers that are this rare are Christian Dior and Alexander McQueen. Christian Dior s life

McQueen was openly gay at age 8 and was often teased in school by other kids. Alexander
McQueen, whose real name is actually Lee Alexander McQueen, knew that he wanted to pursue a
career in fashion design. At age 16 he dropped out of school and went to work at the traditional
Savile Row for Anderson and Sheppard and Gieves and Hawkes. He then went to work for theatre
costume makers Angels and Bermans where he learned the sharp tailoring that has become a
distinct signature of his and the theatrics in his design that make them so iconic. He then traveled to
Milan to work for Italian designer Romero Gigli. In 1992 he returned to London to receive his
masters in Fashion Design. This led to his discovery by aristocratic style guru and former editor
of Vogue, Isabella Blow, who would go on to become a lifetime friend and mentor of McQueen.
Blow assisted McQueen in making all the right connections and helped him find commercial
success while staying true to his artistic vision. She was the one who convinced Lee to adopt his
middle name as the name of his label. Like Christian Dior, McQueen has had a huge impact on the
fashion industry and created wild buzz with his designs. Although Dior had a much more classic
and feminine style and McQueen s designs were way more over the top, theatrical and edgy, these
were the designs that made heads turn. McQueen s

Examples Of Egalitarianism In America
Most people think of America as the land of the free . From the outside it may seem like America
has many freedoms. However, if those who do not live in American could see America from a
different view, they may not like some of the injustices this country brings upon some of its
citizens. When I think of injustices I look at it as the unfair treatment brought on to someone, who
has no reason to be treated unequally. Unfair treatment in this country, mainly stems comes from
the policeofficers that are put into power; those who are supposed to be here to help, serve and
protect are those who most of us are afraid of today. Most citizens want to view law enforcement
as courageous, fearless, respectable, and honest individuals. Unfortunately, for a countless number
of officers this does not hold true; because there are many officers that tend to destroy this concept
with their reckless behavior. Lately, police brutality has become a major issue in America; due to
improper training, the use of excessive force against minorities, and America s broken system for
justice, as police officers are not being held accountable for their actions.
The concept egalitarianism can be a little difficult to understand at first, because there are many
different ways to define this concept. The basic idea around egalitarianism is people should get
the same, or be treated the same, or be treated as equals, in some respect (Encyclopedia of
Philosophy). There are different ways to define equal

Cobb s Explosion
This setting has not been show in the film previously, therefore, the director intended this to
show the viewers that they may not be in reality. Cobb s question can also make the audience
think of their own dreams, and that they probably also only remember the middle of it, and gives
the realization that reality is a relative concept, because it gives the idea that there is no objective
reality. A hyperbolic sound of the table and cutlery rattling symbolizes that Ariadne realizes she is
dreaming, as her panicking results into the dream being disturbed. After a slight moment, the

As the hallway is continuously rotating 360 degrees showing Arthur and an enemy constantly

successfully create this zero gravity scene? How did the cameraman manage to shoot this scene
if he was rotating too? The director planned and directed this scene this way in order to make the
audience ask these questions to themselves, because it causes curiosity as to how this scene was
made since it looks so realistic and unique. This scene created an effect on me, because I was
very fascinated in how they achieved this scene as I have never watched a scene like this one

to happen next, and was thinking were they going to fail the mission? Or will it be a success?
Will the zero gravity negatively affect them? Because I have never watched a scene like this in

s intent to create this zero gravity scene was to symbolize the aspect of the sci fi genre of this

Strategic Discussion on U.S Airline Industry
Discussion Question 1: Use the model of the general environment (Chapter 2, Table 2.1) to evaluate
the opportunities and threats facing the U.S. airline industry and Southwest Airlines in particular.
What are the key opportunities and threats?
The health of the overall U.S airline industry is still tenuous in spite of the passenger traffic
volumes returning to pre 9/11 levels. A survey estimated that from 2001 through 2003, the US
airline industry reported to have lost $23.2 billion dollars, compounded by an additional $1.6
billion in the first quarter of 2004. This $24.8 billion shortfall exceeds the total profits earned over

The airline industry is lobbying with Congress for a extension of federal War Risk insurance
program. To summarize some of the opportunities and threats faced by the airline today are
В•Rising fuel cost which impacts the profit margin of the industry.
В•Added security cost by govt. to enhance the safety of aircraft and our airports.
В•The industry forecast an increase in tax on the operating income which will further reduce the net
profit for the airline industry.
В•Rising short term interest rate would add additional pressure on the airline industry.
В•Improving economy and travel demand is likely to bring legacy airlines in positive territory of
profits.
В•Expiration of Federal War Risk Insurance program

The Porter s five forces model provides a framework for industry competition as
1)Threat of new entrants
Based upon the analysis above #DQ1, the airline industry is faced with several distinct threats and
challenges. However, opportunities for new entrants exist in regional airline market where major
airlines have retrenched their operations and other airlines have not pursued their operation. In
mature market, the new entrant will face stiff competition from low cost airlines and the legacy

Traditional Sangomas And Traditional Beliefs
The History of the traditional healer is closely linked to the concept of African tradition religion.
African people are seen as very religious and did not worship inert object. They believe in a
supreme being known by different names: Umvelingangi for the Zulus, Uqamatha for the Xhosa,
Tilo for the Tsonga, etc. The Sangomas see their ancestors resting in another spiritual realm not
distend from the angels of God. Therefore, they passed to them the baton of their deed before their
departure.
Traditional healing started a long time ago when our forefather used to get information through the
dreams when there is something that was going to happen in the family. This practice passes on
from generation to generation. It is impossible to become a traditional healer and in the family tree,
there was never such. One cannot become a Sangoma unless he or she has a calling from the
ancestors and there must be one Sangoma in their lineage. The Sangomas emphasise on the
importance a close friendship with the ancestors by doing regular sacrifice to them, honouring and
pledging allegiance to them. The Sangomas did not see themselves opposed to Western medicine
but a different perspective on health.

Comparing Two Works Of Art That Featured The God Dionysos
I chose to compare and contrast two works of art that featured the god Dionysos. Dionysos was a
god of celebration and wine, promoting both the intoxicating power of wine and its social benefits
for bringing people together. He was an advocate of peace and a promoter of peaceful civilization.
Both The Hope Dionysos and the Triumph of Dionysos and the Seasons Sarcophagus represent why
Dionysos was such an important and celebrated figurein mythology, which is why I chose to
analyze two works of art that centered on him. My first impression of each piece was of
Dionysos as a peaceful, benevolent and joyful figure. I was struck by the calm peacefulness he
embodied in The Hope Dionysos and the happiness he shared on the Triumph of Dionysos and the
Seasons Sarcophagus. Though there are many elements to compare and contrast, my analysis will
show that both pieces are tributes and representations of Dionysos meaning and purpose in Roman
art. The Hope Dionysos, displayed in the Metropolitan Museum of Arts Greek and Roman Art
gallery, depicts Dionysos standing and leaning with one arm on a smaller female figure that is
believed to Spes, the personification of hope. He is shown without his usual attributes of a drinking
cup or a pinecone topped staff, and both the handat his side and the hand resting on Spes and
reaching out towards the viewer are empty. Spes, however, holds what appears to be a lotus flower
in her hand. This image, with the personification of hope, could have

The Bedford V. Prostitution Case
Prostitution is one of the oldest professions throughout the ancient and modern culture. It has been
around for one of the longest times. Prostitution will possibly be found where one finds evidence of
life and human. By definition, prostitution is known as commercial sex. A prostitute receives
payment in exchange for sexual services between another person. However, the criminalization of
prostitutionis necessary in most countries as there is capital gain involved, puts the environment
at a greater risk of violence, and causes less protection for sex workers. Most countries including
Canada have done an effective job in outlawing prostitution with new legislations. Current
Canadian laws tend to respect sex workers and additionally, address their issues as well. Within
my essay, facts about the Bedford V. Prostitution case along with the government s response to
the case will be addressed. Media coverage and representation of the case will be discussed along
with the media coverage in relation to criminalization of prostitution amongst different
viewpoints will be analyzed. A critical opinion about the current state of law in Canada in
regards to criminalization of prostitution will also be addressed. Comparison between the academic
articles and media will also be discussed in depth. The current laws in Canada for prostitution are
fairly effective by ending demand for sexual services in Canada as Bill C 36 was passed. In 2007,

Essay about Forest gump
Forrest Gump is a film that portrays the life of a man who has borderline intellectual
functioning, from when he was young, all through his adulthood. Forrest was the victim of
ongoing bullying and abuse from the mean spirited children in his area. The movie shows the
challenges he faced and how he overcame them, some with luck, but others with his ability;
despite the fact that he has an IQ of 75. The story plays off in a series of decades in the life of
Forrest Gump, a slow witted yet athletically prodigious man from Alabama that had an influence on
the later half of the 20th century in the United States. Forrest as a child was bullied and had rough
times growing up; his relationships were limited by his lower intelligence and... Show more content

As named before, Forrest has borderline intellectual functioning. This is a disability that effects
how well or how fast a person can think and learn. People with this disability vary in their reading
skills and mathematical abilities. Although a mentally challenged person seems to be completely
different to a normal functioning person they are not so different. They also have needs, desires
and joys and wishes to exceed in whatever they do. There are number of reasons for borderline
intellectual functioning: this may be a result of brain damage or birth defects. However, social,
environmental, medical and cultural deprivation account for most retardation cases and these
causes can be prevented. Borderline intellectual functioning is not a disease, it is a mental illness.
Symptoms include: poor attention, poor concentration, poor common sense, and poor judgment to
name a few. Forrest shows this disability through his hard time understanding things, it took him a
very long time to understand what he needed to do in a football game, or when Jenny was very
sick he did not realize how serious it was. Forrest also has no common sense, he invests money left,
right, and center without thinking of the obligation that might occur, he also at some stage took of

My Hysterectomy
If you have ever ridden a roller coaster then you can comprehend where our family was. We were
latched in for the ride. There was no stopping it only riding it out and getting off as soon as
possible. My personal declaration throughout the entire journey was, every mountain would be
made low and every valley high and I would walk on flat ground. Isaiah 40:4 I pulled myself
together and set my face like flint. Regardless of the past or future I had learned happiness in not a
place to arrive at, but rather how I daily lived my life. Even though I was in relentless pain and
surgeries were being scheduled, I was going to be happy. That was a choice. We were given a
Disney cruise by a friend, which was scheduled for November 31 Dec 3, 2006. When we agreed to
go, I thought I would be having my hysterectomy the week we returned, but our whole lives had
been turned upside down again and our schedule greatly changed. My hysterectomy was scheduled
for November 3, 2006, and both Micah and Miranda would have the de tethering of their spinal
cords on December 11, 2006. We had to be in New York on December 7, 2006, for tests so we

The Vietnam War By Nyguyen Thi Vinh
It is my believe that most civil wars are unnecessary and horrible. Civil wars divide families, and
can make friends have to meet on the battlefield as foes. They also ruin innocent lives, and can
uproot people from their homes. Civil wars are terrible, and make even the strongest of people
lose faith. Because of reasons like these three, I believe civil wars should not be fought. One of the
greatest crimes of civils wars is how they can make friends into enemies. The poet Nyguyen Thi
Vinh reflects this in her poems about the Vietnam War
. In one she writes about how two friends,
who used to play together, might end up fighting each other. The poem show how friends and even

Beethoven s Ninth Symphony
Beethoven s Ninth Symphony is lauded as one, if not the most masterful piece of classical music
that has ever been created. Unravelling all the components within it is a daunting task; beginning
with the origin of the central theme of the piece from the poem Ode to Joy , the use of fugue, the
deconstruction of the four movements, and the instrumentation. Schiller s Ode to Joy generally
speaks about brotherhood, joy, and drinking. Which if being experienced all at the same time,
gives a sense of camaraderie between people. It s also worth noting that Joy is personified and also

Red Blood Cell Hypoxia
Hypoxia is a condition that is caused by the decrease in oxygen pressure, insufficient oxygen
transport, or when tissues are physiologically incapable of making use of the oxygen supplied to
them. Hypoxia occurs in the tissues and brain and cumulates to impaired cognitive functions. The
ability to maintain homeostasis and oxygen levels is an essential part of survival for all
vertebrates. Various physiological systems have evolved to assure every cell in an organism
receives optimal oxygenation. Hypoxia emerged as physiological structures used for oxygen
delivery such as erythrocytes evolved. Anoxia is the extreme type of hypoxia that manifests when
the body is without oxygen leaving the tissues and brain torpid. Hypoxia can manifest in five
different forms: Pemic, Hypoxemic,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Extended exposure to hypoxic conditions can cause elevated RBC count; a condition called
Polycythemia. The elevation in the production of red blood cell is a consequence of renal failure
that affects the kidney. This results in the kidney producing a enythrogenin into the blood stream.
This produces erythropoietinogen; a plasma protein reaction which produces erythropoietin.
This activates the bone marrow to produce more red blood cells. Hypoxia can seriously defect
the brains respiratory region. Any sort of loss of oxygen to any area of the brain can cause
irreversible damage and lead to unconsciousness. When there is a shortage of oxygen supply to the
brains respiratory region, it causes the integrating center to trigger an increase in the breathing rate
of the organism. At any point, if an organism is to become starved of oxygen, the brain cells
undergo apoptosis. This paper will address hypoxia, variations in hemoglobin of marine mammals

Monster Clytemnestra In Aeschylus Oresteia
The Monster Clytemnestra in Aeschylus Oresteia
In the three part play Oresteia, Clytemnestra is a character that manipulates, lies, cheats, and
murders. From the very first moment we hear of her existence, we know she is unlike the women
of her time. Oh she s a woman all right, a woman with a man s heart. (11) the watchman in the first
scene of Agamemnon tells the audience. This tells us that she does not act in a way that the
watchman associates with the women around him. Already, in the first few lines of the first
installment of the play, we know that Clytemnestra is different. Throughout the play, Clytemnestra
tries as hard as she can to keep herself on top, stopping at nothing to get what she wants. She
wants to rule the city and she wants to have power over the people in her life. She is power
hungry, manipulative, and determined. This determination is not a good thing for the people
around Clytemnestra. Because of her need for power, she ends up turning on almost everyone
she is supposed to love. This is what leads to her eventual death. Clytemnestra is a dynamic

Short Essay On Mother Teresa
Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier. Mother
Teresa. She was always loving people no matter what and she would always help out anyone in
need. She dedicated her life in helping homeless, the sick , the poor and the dying. Mother Teresa
was a petite woman who spent most of her life caring for the sick and dying. She fed, washed, and

effective method for change because she provided for the impoverished, improved healthcare for

Mother Teresa devoted her life to helping the poor, sick, needy, and dying people in India. In 1948
she asked the Pope if she could quit teaching so she could help the people in need and he finally
said yes after a year of lobbying. In the year 1952 she was able to open the first available hospice

opened the first orphanage which took care of handicapped children and the children of dying
mothers. One day she stumbled upon a lady whose flesh was being eaten by mice. So she took the

Egoism In Chrysanthem, By Ayn Rand
In a clash between the collectivist and individualist mindsets, the once Equality 7 2521 and now
self named Prometheus had proclaimed that the word ego is a sacred word. It is essential to note
that Prometheus himself is the true embodiment of an egoist as he worships the word and
personifies it in the best way possible. While egoismmay be viewed as an awful philosophyto live
by, it is the path which true arbors of inspiration and creativity within a society follow. Imagine a
society where oppression occurs on a daily basis, a world lacking of an outlet for one s self, an
egoless community where members claim that equality reigns over them rather than their own
sense of discernment. An absence of egoists may sound appealing to some, but the ego is solely
responsible for a human s sense of self identity, as opposed to a collectivist who sacrifices their
sense of self to attempt become one with those within their community. While the collectivists
preach a goal which fails to keep all happy and innovative and rather stupefies and limits all that
surround them, the egoist is the ultimate mastermind behind all of the things which keep the world

In my opinion, the stars represent all the successes and happiness that love can bring a couple.
However, many relationships go through a lot of struggles that can be seen by the darkness of the
sky. The lyrics are also straightforward and easy to follow. They leave the listener to think about
what they believe is the true meaning of love. Hearing this song will forever remind me of my
parents love for each other and that is something that is special to me.
The way the Beatles wrote their music was interesting. The song itself is in F# minor until the
acoustic guitar solo in the middle of the song by Harrison, which is when it switches over to G
minor (The Beatles Bible). I believe that the solo portion of the song is the best part. This portion
of the song is more like a transitional period, as George Harrison does a good job of using relaxing
tones. Harrison also plays the claves in the background of the song that serve as something
similar to a metronome to keep the rhythm constant in the song. Due to the song s simplicity and
beauty, it is no surprise that the tempo is slower. If the song were any faster, the message would
be more difficult to portray.. It shows that love and happiness does not come very easy and you
must be patient until you are destined with true love. The Beatles did an excellent job of showing
the beauty of love in what I believe to be an effortless way.
The next song I chose is one that I couldn t resist

How The Clean Water Is A Very Important Aspect Of Health
This report represents my individual effort. I did not receive or offer aid to anyone when
performing this assignment, nor did I plagiarize any material.
Signed: __________________________________________________________
Introduction Having clean water is a very crucial aspect of health. Many people don t have access
to clean water, this can be life threatening. There are lethal bacterial infections that are present in
water. There are many different diseases that can acquire by drinking contaminated water like:
cholera, typhoid fever, and dysentery. The biggest concern and issue is the ingestion of water that is
contaminated with fecal matter (1). It has been discovered that the main source of bacteria is this
fecal contamination. Fecal matter can enter water sources by runoff from farms or any area that
contains many animals. This contamination can also come from insects, rats, or other small
animals entering wells or water sources (2). Testing the quality of water, it is often common to
test if the water contains coliforms. It is easier to test for coliforms, instead of testing for bacteria
that can cause each waterborne disease. Coliforms are gram negative, facultative anaerobic
bacteria that do not form endospores. They are also rod shaped and will ferment lactose (slides).
When they ferment lactose, this will produce acid and gas. This acid and gas production will allow
the total coliform count to be determined.

Analysis Of Normal Life By Dean Spade
Dean Spade and Critical Trans Politics
Activist and professor Dean Spade, in his book Normal Life: Administrative Violence, Critical
Trans Politics, and the Limits of Law, condemns current law policies surrounding discrimination
and hate crimes against transgender and gender non conforming populations. Spade proposes a
critical trans politics that is superior to the equal rights efforts of gay and lesbian activists up to this
point in United States history. Instead of desiring to be included in a law enforcement system that
oppresses the people it claims to protect, proponents of Spade s critical trans politics argue that the

This drastically reduces the life chances of poor people, queer and trans people, immigrants, and
people of color. In practice, every law system and mainstream law reform effort has attempted to
assign people and groups of people into two categories: who is worthy of a chance at a good life,
and who is not. Spade s proposal of a critical trans politics creates a system in which life chances are
redistributed in a way that gives marginalized groups the opportunity to survive and succeed. Within
the United States government en masse, there are many legal systems that contribute to the uneven
distribution of life chances and thus require dismantling and radical reconstruction. These include
the criminal justice system, the education system, the prison system (also called the prison industrial
complex), the social welfare system, the immigration system, the housing system, the healthcare
system, and the U.S. military. Each of these legal and political systems in some way targets a
specific population within the United States, very often transgender and gender variant people, and
directly reduces that population s life chances. This is the issue that Spade seeks to amend when he
proposes the move toward a critical trans politics.
Changing how large governmental structures function is neither an easy task nor a quick one; it
will require the undoing and unlearning of a very tightly held political and economic system by all
parties involved. At the center of Spade s call for

The Lost Mariner Character Analysis
Korsakov s Syndrome and Memory Loss
Losing one s memory can be a mysterious affliction, and the causes can be quite complex. Severe
memory loss is introduced in author Oliver Sacks collection of stories The Man Who Mistook His
Wife for a Hat, and lectures given by professor Jim Davies can help with understanding of some of
the concepts introduced in the book. In chapter two, The Lost Mariner, the patient Jimmie is
suffering from aspects of both retrograde and anterograde amnesia, which Davies explained as loss
of memory of events or facts learned before an event (the event that caused the amnesia), and
loss of ability to create new memories after the event, respectively. In more detail, and in relation
to our book (here, the target example), retrograde amnesia would consist of any loss of memory
that happened prior to an event, such as an injury or onset of disease in Jimmie s case. Dr.
Davies explanation of retrograde amnesia helps to understand Jimmie s case, where in the year
1975 he is unable to recall any events after 1945. As well, the explanation of anterograde
amnesia as including symptoms such as inability to form new memories, learn information or
tasks, or to recall the recent past is useful when applied to Jimmie s experience of not being able
to recall events that happened even a few minutes prior. Jimmie s suffering from both retro and
anterograde amnesia, as explained by Sacks, results from Korsakov s syndrome a destruction of
memory caused by alcoholic

The Japanese Tea Ceremony By Sen No Rikkyu
The Japanese tea ceremony (chanoyu) is derived from the influence of the Zen Buddhist masters of
the 14th and 15th centuries. In the 1500s, Sen No Rikkyu embraced the ideas of simplicity. He
developed a tea ritual that comprised of no wasted movement and no unneeded objects.
Instead of using expensive imported utensils, Rikkyu made tea in a thatched hut simply using an
iron kettle, a plain container for tea, a tea scoop, a whisk made from bamboo, and a common
rice bowl for drinking the tea. In a Rikyu style tearoom, the only decorations were a hanging
scroll or a vase of flowers placed in the alcove. The lack of decoration makes participants more
aware of details and awakens them to the simple beauty around them. The host of the tea
ceremony may prepare significantly for the event. This involves practicing all steps and hand
movements, so that every aspect of the ceremony is perfect, yet simple. The ceremony can be
performed at a home, a tea house, outdoors, or a special tea room. The dГ©cor for the ceremony is

A car repair is required if something breaks down with your motor vehicle. It can be any number
of things that go wrong with your automobile. Sometimes a car repair is large and can be
expensive to have completed by a mechanic and sometimes it is more of a minor repair. What you
need to do to avoid constantly taking your car into a service center for work is to properly
maintain it.
Preventative maintenance is key to having a well functioning motor vehicle. When you take good
care of your car this helps keep it in better shape and can increase the lifespan of your automobile.
You can keep some car repairs at bay if you maintain your motor vehicle in the manner that it needs
to be maintained.

may come on at the same time that you are experiencing other problems such as a reduction of
power or complete loss of power in your car, sputtering or a rough idle. None of these problems

The Controversy Of Seawater Banning
Our plan has the United States Department of Interior banning all commercial fishing in Marine
Protected Areas, and establishing and enforcing regulations for the recreational use of these areas.
The practice of bottom trawling will be banned in U.S. ocean fisheries. This plan will decrease the
worry of losing all our fishin the sea. We are harvesting more fish that can be replenished, so
banning the practice of bottom trawling and other fishing practices in Marine Protected Areas put
fish like tuna in danger. The decrease in tuna cause the marine food chain to change thus causing
an abundance of smaller fish such as sardines and anchovies. Declines of top predators may
cascade down food webs, and the implications of these cascading processes... Show more content on

Our plan of the United States Department of Interior banning all commercial fishing in Marine
Protected Areas, and establishing and enforcing regulations for the recreational use of these
areas fits to the resolved. The program will be run directly from the government as said from the
plan. Our plan will be saving our nation approximately $250 million of discarded fish. The
amount of fish we have wasted is breaking down. This plan will help to restore our marine
ecosystems so we are able to have another millennia of fish to eat. Our plan also will promote the
development of the Earth s oceans. According to Ocean Conservancy, Underwater parks, called
marine protected areas...allow fish to grow larger, stay healthier, and reach greater abundance
and diversity. Fish thrive in these areas...move to other parts of the ocean and replenish weaker
populations...We people depend on healthy fish for survival...Underwater parks hold up even in
the face of disaster. our plan of increasing these marine protected areas are crucial if we want to
continue to live off of fish meat. Also, Callum Roberts says that Marine protected Areas can allow
recovery of species such as corals, sponges, sea squirts, and mollusks that create complex bottom
structures that blind the seabed and perform countless other vital roles such as filtering the water.

Abstract Of Cloning
Abstract
Cloning is a new branch of medicine. Though medicine is already well developed it will be
always evolving. Now the scientists are focused on cloning. Many people seem to be frightened,
but progress is inevitable. Cloning can be very beneficial if it is used properly. In order to clone an
organism, the scientists must know the structure, function and construction of every single cell in
the body. Moreover cloning is a hope for incurably sick people, because the main purpose of
cloning is to find new ways to treat patients. Some people may be afraid of cloning, because they
are unfamiliar with it. They see it as a threat to humanity, rather than an option to treat and prevent
diseases.
Recently cloning is becoming more and more popular topic. It is puzzling and intriguing. On one
hand it seems to be frightening, but on the other hand it is evolutionary. As a new branch of
medicine, cloning technology needs to be developed even more, because cloning is beneficial for
developing the knowledge of humankind. Scientists need huge effort in order to clone. They need
to know every single cell of the body, its function, and construction. By gaining that knowledge,
they will know every aspect of an organism. Cloning is a perfect method to discover new
treatments for incurably sick people.
Cloning is beneficial for developing the knowledge about the human kind, and there are plenty of
reasons to prove that. For example, thanks to cloning the

Essay On The Movie Crash
In these three scenes from movie Crash, the filmmakers give the audience a better understanding of
the conflict among race, class, gender, and family. By using different editing techniques such as the
subjective point of view, different camera movements, and various camera angles, the filmmakers
explain and deepen the social issues of race, crime, and loss to the audience. The pacing of edits
varies among these three scenes. For the first scene, the length of shots is a lot shorter than the
other ones, which highlights the intensity of the scene. On the other hand, the last scene uses a
long length of shot to emphasize Jean s frustration and anger. The first scene of the clip begins
with an extreme close up hand held shot of a mirror and through the mirror, we see a car
approaching. It cuts to a close up shot of Farhad sitting in the car looking outside, which makes
the viewer aware that we are watching it from Farhad s point of view and it makes us wonder
why he is waiting for the car. After a close up shot of the car stops in front of the house,... Show

The Limits Of Human Communication
From the beginning of human s existence on earth, communication has been a crucial aspect of
human life. Communication allows humans to express their ideas or feelings to others which gives
humans the ability to connect to each other at an interpersonal level. Technology is a product of
human communication through expression of ideas that has lead technology to be the rise of a
new form of communication. Technology is changing the way humans connect by moving towards
more virtual interactions between people rather than face to face. The essay Limits of Friendship
written by Maria Konnikova speaks on how technology takes away from humanface to face
connection, yet as technology continues to innovate this essay will disprove her thesis. An essay
Paumgarten wrote We Are a Camerainterrelates to disproving Konnikova s thesis by showing how
POV camera s allow us to connect our lives and express our idea s like never before. Myself
growing up as technology continues to innovate and change I too agree with Paumgarten s writings
seeing how technology has changed my own abilities to connect by expanding the possibilities to
interact with other humans. Technology has expanded the way people connect by providing
limitless and easy accessible content from across the earth. Technology changed the way humans
connect by transforming it into a global platform which nullifies geographical barriers. Konnikova
acknowledges technologies global platform as a way to network effectively.

Benefits Of The TTC In Toronto
TTC, standing for Toronto Transit Commission is a public transport agency which benefits and
transports 2.7 million people daily by using different vehicles and services in Toronto, Ontario,
Canada. Some citizens of Toronto argue how the TTC pollutes and makes the environment a horrid
and dreadful place, while it is actually the opposite because the TTC can help reduce the
environmental damage in the city, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and benefit Torontoto make it a
safer, significant, and a convenient city.
The TTC uses many vehicles to support it, such as buses, subways, streetcars, and paratransit
services to help people who need to go places in Toronto. Specifically, the TTC drives 2.7 million
people daily. Those people include adults, elderly, and children. The TTC has a blue seating
called the Priority Seating opposed to the ones who have disabilities, the elderly, and pregnant
women. The TTC is also very helpful and useful to many other people especially for the ones who
do not have any vehicles or any type of transportation.
Unfortunately, the TTC is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without it, the TTC will be significantly dirtier, it will also emit more pollution followed by
additional greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere than there already is. To prevent such
pollution people should start by using the TTC because it will reduce the number of trips by car
which equals less greenhouse gas emissions. The atmospheric pollutants and gases caused by fuel
being burnt are formed into a gas like texture called smog. The Ontario Medical Association has
calculated that 1 900 people die each year in the province because of the smog exposure.
Therefore, the TTC is trying to make Toronto a cleaner place by reducing and preventing the
environmental damage in the city. By using the TTC, it can also save 70 000 of fuel and remove
tonnes of pollutants effectively from the atmosphere every

Amusing Ourselves To Death Essay
Question Two:
While having read many different authors this semester for this class, two seemed to jump out at
me in having the most in common. Neil Postman(1985) does not specifically discuss the societal
pressures of forced gender roles in advertising the same way the Jean Kilbourne addresses in her
book and film series, but there is a connection in the topics they discuss. I was a bit put off by the
task of reading the entire Postman book, Amusing Ourselves to Death, however, the topics in each
chapter make for some thought provoking and tantalizing ideas of the societal issues that we seem
to take for granted. The chapter about public discourse and the new methods that were employed to
create communication through the age of exposition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These two authors do not necessarily have much in common on the surface but just below when
one can ascertain the message being put out by each author it is clearly connected in the form of
technology, its historical and current uses and how the advent of easy communication technology
has allowed us to water down our vast culture by making it easy to objectify humans, animals and
nature if the explanation is sensational enough. I ve learned through reading Neil Postman s
book(1985), Amusing Ourselves to Death, that we seem to look at forms of communication as
following a linear path. The invention of easy communication created a niche in societies that
became a place for further discourse, sharing of ideas and knowledge, but in the end, was used
ultimately to control, shape and form the masses. Neil Postman delved into topics that I think are
somewhat forgotten by history and societies as they become so engrained in our way of viewing
the world around us. Jean Kilbourne (1999) taught me that we are all subjected to societal gender
normalization through mass media, print media and news programs. The sheer lack of honest and
open communication in our society puts us at risk for being objectified, sexualized and
demoralized, all without realizing that this is

Essay about The Rise Of The Nuclear Weapon Into A...
During last 50 years of development, the nuclear bomb, as the ultimate weapon became the
peacekeeping force on the earth. The nuclear bomb was developed in Manhattan project during
the WW II and was successfully tested in the New Mexico on July 16 1945. At this point started
the change of nuclear weapon from ultimate weapon to political weapon. USA decided to use the
atomic bomb to defeat Japan in order to save around 500.000 lives of American soldiers that were
needed to end the war and in the summer 1945 the USA dropped two bombs on Hiroshima and
Nagasaki. The nuclear weaponraised the confidence of USA but president Truman did not ordered
its mass production because at that time he saw no explicit political function for the bomb. USA...

The loss of nuclear deterrence meant that conventional forces hat to deter a Soviet attack on
Western Europe. However, in 1952 John Foster Duller argued in an article A policy of Boldness
that the deterrence could work without using large and expensive conventional armies. The
Soviets should believe that USA has capability do inflict horrible devastation in retaliation.
Therefore, Eisenhower named Dulles the secretary of state in 1952 and accepted his nuclear
strategy. Eisenhower ordered rapid increase in the production of nuclear weapons and airplanes
capable to deliver them. This was called more bang for the buck. The deterrence was enhanced and
less conventional forces in Europe reduced the threat of military attack by the West upon the Soviet
Union. It was the best way to prevent WW 3.
At this point, more important than weapons became a coalition of countries that agree to protect
each other or to attack some enemy. Both major powers realized that the possession of nuclear
weapons endowed them with alliance building capabilities. The major nuclear powers could offer
protection. No nuclear states would fit under one or the other s nuclear umbrella. The Soviet Union
organized its East European satellites into Warsaw Pact in 1955. In addition to NATO, USA
established security treaties with Japan in 1951,Australiacc, and New Zealand (ANZUS) in 1951,
and with Southeast Asian states (SEATO) in 1954. Both superpowers extended their deterrence and

The Importance Of Legal Responsibility After A Car Accident
People who leave the scene of an accident are scared because they don t have a license or valid
insurance. The fleeing party might have been drinking or have an illegal substance in the car too.
Leaving the scene of the accident doesn t mean they can t be found and held responsible for the
accident, damages and injuries. Once they leave the scene of the accident, they might be held
responsible for damages even if they weren t at fault. It could also lead to serious criminal charges.
Legal Responsibility after a Car Accident
After being involved in a car accident, both parties are required to stay and exchange identification
and insurance information as well as vehicle registration number. You ll want to get the details of
the driver and passengers in the other vehicle.
You re required to contact local law enforcement to alert them to the accident. They might not send
a police cruiser to respond to the accident if there haven t been injuries or serious damage. If the
police don t respond, you ll be required to go to the police station and file your own report for the
insurance company.
In an accident with no people present, the driver is required to leave contact information and an
explanation where it can be found by the owner of the vehicle or property that was damaged.
Penalties for Leaving the Scene
Car Accident with No Injuries
Following a car accident with no injuries where the other driver speeds away, you ll want to

The Incident Between Adrian Peterson And His Four Year Old...
This paper seeks to look at the incident between Adrian Peterson and his four year old son from the
son s perspective. There are no benefits to hitting a child and causing such undeserved pain and
suffering. There is disagreement as to whether the problems with physical punishment are problems
with frequent and/or harsh punishment or whether problem also exist with infrequent and mild
level of punishment. This paper will look at the upbringing of Peterson and the incident and
negative effects this incident had on his son. Parents have a wide discretion to administer
reasonable punishment of their children. A parent may spank a child who has misbehaved without
being liable for battery, or he may temporarily order the child to stay in his room as punishment, yet
not be held responsible for false imprisonment.
What does Corporal punishment mean? Murray Straus, a sociologist who has written extensively on
the topic, defines corporal punishment as the use of physical force with the intention of causing a
child to experience pain, but not hurt, for the purpose of correction or control of the child s
behavior. Some common forms of corporal punishment are: spanking, slapping, grabbing or
shoving a child roughly or hitting with objects like belt, paddle, or hair brush.
The debate on parenting is a very interesting topic. There are always two sides to a debate. Parents
have viewed spanking and discipline as a key if not the key to ensure a child can survive and adapt

Mr. Williams And The Music Of Music And Film
John Williams once said so much of what we do is ephemeral and quickly forgotten, even by
ourselves, so it s gratifying to have something you have done linger in people s memories and
linger it did. Mr. Williams has made significant contributions to the arts of music and film. To fully
understand the gravity of his achievements and their affect on humanity, we must first look at the
progression of sound in film; the effect music has in film and its audience; and lastly his
accomplishments of music and film.
In the infancy of film, movies were silent but not without sound. To make film a more pleasant
experience, music was provided to cover up the ambient noise of the projector and help create an
agreeable atmosphere, often by the use of a solo piano. (Fischoff, S. (2005)). The musician
generally improvised playing mostly a variety of popular romantic and melodramatic scores of the
late nineteenth century (such as William Tell Overture, Ride of the Valkyrie, Les Preludes, etc.) as
long as it accompanied the action/scene or enhanced the mood (for dramatic effect). ( From Scene
to Shining Screen: A Short History of Film Music . para. 1 2. (n.d.)). As film grew in popularity and
length, so did the musical accompaniment adding instruments to the ensemble until even some
theaters were housing full orchestras. By the end of the silent era, the industry had completely
shifted from the all purpose improve music of the solo pianist, to exact musical scores written

Disconnection Essay
When people are feeling down or there is something wrong with them they tend to disconnect from
the world and go into one of their own. In this place they find comfort and safety and it is
somewhere that no one can bother them for the time being. I myself find comfort just lying in my
bed staring at the ceiling and drifting off in thought. For artiststhough, they are able to find this
comforting place in music. Blink 182, Linkin Park, and NAS are some of the famous artists that are
able to disconnect from the world through their songs. They are able to get all of there thoughts out
through music and the world has a chance to hear them.

In this lyric from there song quot;In the end quot; they are explaining to us what they think life
is all about. They tell us that no matter what you do in life, no matter how far you go and
succeed, it just doesn t matter when you die because God doesn t care about it. All God cares
about is you as a person and that is what he is going to judge you on in the end. The group became
disconnected from the world in order to think of this song. They must have spent a lot of time
gathering there thoughts and opinions to come up with the lyrics and verses.
The best example of feeling disconnected come from the lyrics of Blink 182 s quot;Adam s song
quot;. This song was written by the drummer of the band to express how life was on tour. quot; The
tour was over we d survived I couldn t wait till I got home to pass the time in my room alone
quot;. All the drummer wants to do is go home to lie in his bed and disconnect from the world. He
had been on tour for months entertaining people and he never had anytime for himself so all he
wanted to do was be alone and not have to make anyone but himself happy.
Song writers are excellent on expressing their feeling os disconnection from he world because they
usually never have anytime to be themselves so they express is through song. I think that everyone
needs time to disconnect in one way or another. It gives you time to be by yourself and think about
things that are

  • 2. Self Definition Self definition Throughout history black women have been stereotyped and put into many different roles in society. Black women, it seems, have become the scapegoat for many issues and problems and have been misrepresented usually by men, mostly by white men. Through the creation of the mammy, the sapphire, the Jezebel, the strong black woman and more, black women have been misrepresented and portrayed in negative ways in society. In a response to this labeling, black women have begun to tell their own stories and speak out for themselves. Through their writings, black women writers have been able to dispel the stereotypes of black women by showing the truth, the true story of the women, told by the woman. Doing this, they have been... Toni Morrison uses situational irony in a different manner, instead of using the women s thoughts she uses their actions. The expectations of the reader are because of the upbringing and personal connection of Sula and Nel. The reader experiences situational irony in upbringing through Nel and irony in the women s personal connection through Sula. It may seem as if Nel will not become like her mother, leave the town, travel, become chaotic and take chances. For days afterward she imagined other trips she would takeВ…Leaving Medallion would be her goal (Morrison 29). Nel does none of this and settles into the life of the Bottom and contrary to what the reader expects, she grows up to be almost exactly like her mother. Yet it is not expected that Nel would do this and it is surprising when it happens. Morrison spends great detail explaining the upbringing of both Nel and Sula to show that they are exact opposites, foils of each other and the attraction that each has towards their different lives. Nel, grows up with a strict mother, she is restricted by her mother and is never able to express herself. Her household is quiet and reserved, in a sense, perfect and her mother is involved in the community and works hard to kill the imagination and drive of her daughter. Sula grows up ... • 3. The Constrained Court Model Created By Gerald N. Rosenberg The Constrained Court model created by Gerald N. Rosenberg, proves that the courts are weak, powerless, and ineffective for change among race, class and gender ideologies.. Using Lisa Frohmann s article, Convictability and Discordant Locales; in which she is reproducing race, class and gender ideologies in Prosecutorial Decision making . Frohmann uses discordant locales as a bridge to describe how prosecutors work in sexual assault cases. Rosenberg and Frohmann demonstrate that the courts are not effective unless they overcome these constraints, set in the constrained court model. According to Rosenberg and Frohmann social reform is nearly unachievable, through the district attorney and victim cross examination interview and jury assumptions. As Rosenberg specified in order to establish social reforms the following constraints; limited nature of constitutional rights lack of judicial independence, judiciary s lack of power implantation and inability to develop appropriate policies need to be eradicated. The Dynamic Court view s claim that a major contribution of the courts in civil rights was to give the issue clarity, press political elites to act, poke the consciences of whites, legitimate the grievances of blacks, and fire blacks up to act is not demonstrated. In all the places examined, where evidence supportive of the claim should exist, it does not. The concerns of clear acknowledgement, time, and increased press coverage all cut against the theory. ... Quantitative Research In The Military The United States Military is one of Americas largest and long standing corporation to date, employing over a million members annually, deploying members all over the world, and managing millions of resources and thousands of skill sets daily. In conclusion, a hypothesis on the future of quantitative researchmethods in the military and as a whole will be explored. INTRODUCTION: President George W. Bushonce said Leadership to me means duty, honor, country. It means character, and it means listening from time to time (Bush, G.W., date unknown). The United States Military is a force like no other and has been around since our colonial days in 1512 where militiamen would guard their homes and colonies, however, the Unites States Congress didn t officially create a Military until September 29,1789. The US Military is sometimes frustratingly slow to grasp new and useful concepts, due to the fact that they are seeped in military traditions . The lovely people at Z hostel had invited me to stay with them and as you know design hostels are my favourite kind of accomodation and the Philippines have some of my favourite places in the world, so I knew this would be good. The Area The hostel is located in Makati, one of the 16 cities that make up Metro Manila. It s the financial centre of the Philippines and apart from the Stock exchange you ll find lot of entertainment and several large malls there. It s the simple things like having enough outlets that make me really happy when travelling. The large night stands are big enough for a laptop (and the wifi is strong enough to actually watch movies!), there is a large desk in front of the window and the wardrobe is big enough to fit two backpacks in. I loved the parquet flooring, which made the room feel much more cozy than the other areas. The bathroom is less fancy but was super clean and had everything I needed. The private rooms are located on a sixth floor and I had a great view over Makati from there. Once I found a good substantial amount of information, I laid out an outline for myself to know exactly in what direction I was headed with the research content and how I should portray it. Luckily for me, there are many different cultures that have the context of Lilith, even if they do not call her that. They all describe her as a winged demon whom comes around at night to seduce men (in order for her to produce demonic children) and to strangle babies. Another thing that I did which ended up really playing out was researching the many different forms of Midrash and how they worked. The outcome of my research provided me with many different types, and how you were meant to characterize each one. I was honestly surprised at how much went into determining how a midrash should be laid out, whether it be legal, or non legal reasoning s. I also found it interesting to how sources determined Eve as Adams actual first wife with having no information about Lilith being the actual first wife, regardless of how that relationship ended up. I would be interested in taking a class about the women of the bible and having them include the midrash of Lilith to understanding the full force and being taught of her, rather than reading things that may not stick in my memory. The genre, defined as a merger between rhythm blues and country (Scaruffi, The History of Rock Music:1955 1966), started out more as an underground market, but ended up becoming a significant aspect of American popular music history. Rock n Roll music produce many legendary artists who will for ever be known as innovators of the genre. Elvis Presley and Chuck Berry were some of the many artists in Rock n Roll who will always live on in their music. Many teenagers were also to identify it due to its rebellious nature their disapproval of the cold war. However, the 1960s was considered at a stand still when it came to popular music. In 1964, when the Beatles arrived to America, everything changed. I think this was the time when Rock n Roll was truly reborn as Rock music. The changing of Rock and Roll terminology is illustative. Rock and Roll became simply Rock , connoting its new heaviness (seriousness) (Cary, pg 31) The oncoming decade allowed for new developments within rock music and as a result, soared in popularity. The British invasion, a phrase coined by Walter Cronkite while reporting the arrival of the Beatles in the USA,and American folk singers were the causes of the rapid changes in Rock music. It was British bands that altered how Rock n Roll was played, and at the the same time American folk singers were in the process of changing how its audience, particularly the youth, perceived it. The United states has always met with great success in exporting their own popular music to Europe. However, the impact that the Beatles had on our country started the beginning of what Star and Waterman call an aggressively reciprocal process (Star and Waterman, pg 255). Which is true because the Beatles s debut on the Ed Sullivan Show was a huge success 73 million Americans watched their first appearance on the show. This may help prevent the firm going bankrupt and protect jobs in the long term. Arguably with neo liberalisation, it is increasingly important for firms to remain competitive within the global economy. 2.With increased labour productivity there could be an increase in output and exports. He then went to work for theatre costume makers Angels and Bermans where he learned the sharp tailoring that has become a distinct signature of his and the theatrics in his design that make them so iconic. He then traveled to Milan to work for Italian designer Romero Gigli. In 1992 he returned to London to receive his masters in Fashion Design. This led to his discovery by aristocratic style guru and former editor of Vogue, Isabella Blow, who would go on to become a lifetime friend and mentor of McQueen. Blow assisted McQueen in making all the right connections and helped him find commercial success while staying true to his artistic vision. She was the one who convinced Lee to adopt his middle name as the name of his label. Like Christian Dior, McQueen has had a huge impact on the fashion industry and created wild buzz with his designs. • 13. Examples Of Egalitarianism In America Most people think of America as the land of the free . From the outside it may seem like America has many freedoms. However, if those who do not live in American could see America from a different view, they may not like some of the injustices this country brings upon some of its citizens. When I think of injustices I look at it as the unfair treatment brought on to someone, who has no reason to be treated unequally. Unfair treatment in this country, mainly stems comes from the policeofficers that are put into power; those who are supposed to be here to help, serve and protect are those who most of us are afraid of today. Most citizens want to view law enforcement as courageous, fearless, respectable, and honest individuals. Unfortunately, for a countless number of officers this does not hold true; because there are many officers that tend to destroy this concept with their reckless behavior. Lately, police brutality has become a major issue in America; due to improper training, the use of excessive force against minorities, and America s broken system for justice, as police officers are not being held accountable for their actions. The concept egalitarianism can be a little difficult to understand at first, because there are many different ways to define this concept. The basic idea around egalitarianism is people should get the same, or be treated the same, or be treated as equals, in some respect (Encyclopedia of Philosophy). Cobb s question can also make the audience think of their own dreams, and that they probably also only remember the middle of it, and gives the realization that reality is a relative concept, because it gives the idea that there is no objective reality. A hyperbolic sound of the table and cutlery rattling symbolizes that Ariadne realizes she is dreaming, as her panicking results into the dream being disturbed. The director planned and directed this scene this way in order to make the audience ask these questions to themselves, because it causes curiosity as to how this scene was made since it looks so realistic and unique. This scene created an effect on me, because I was very fascinated in how they achieved this scene as I have never watched a scene like this one before. • 16. Traditional Sangomas And Traditional Beliefs The History of the traditional healer is closely linked to the concept of African tradition religion. African people are seen as very religious and did not worship inert object. They believe in a supreme being known by different names: Umvelingangi for the Zulus, Uqamatha for the Xhosa, Tilo for the Tsonga, etc. The Sangomas see their ancestors resting in another spiritual realm not distend from the angels of God. Therefore, they passed to them the baton of their deed before their departure. Traditional healing started a long time ago when our forefather used to get information through the dreams when there is something that was going to happen in the family. This practice passes on from generation to generation. It is impossible to become a traditional healer and in the family tree, there was never such. One cannot become a Sangoma unless he or she has a calling from the ancestors and there must be one Sangoma in their lineage. The Sangomas emphasise on the importance a close friendship with the ancestors by doing regular sacrifice to them, honouring and pledging allegiance to them. • 18. Comparing Two Works Of Art That Featured The God Dionysos I chose to compare and contrast two works of art that featured the god Dionysos. Dionysos was a god of celebration and wine, promoting both the intoxicating power of wine and its social benefits for bringing people together. He was an advocate of peace and a promoter of peaceful civilization. Both The Hope Dionysos and the Triumph of Dionysos and the Seasons Sarcophagus represent why Dionysos was such an important and celebrated figurein mythology, which is why I chose to analyze two works of art that centered on him. My first impression of each piece was of Dionysos as a peaceful, benevolent and joyful figure. I was struck by the calm peacefulness he embodied in The Hope Dionysos and the happiness he shared on the Triumph of Dionysos and the Seasons Sarcophagus. Though there are many elements to compare and contrast, my analysis will show that both pieces are tributes and representations of Dionysos meaning and purpose in Roman art. The Hope Dionysos, displayed in the Metropolitan Museum of Arts Greek and Roman Art gallery, depicts Dionysos standing and leaning with one arm on a smaller female figure that is believed to Spes, the personification of hope. He is shown without his usual attributes of a drinking cup or a pinecone topped staff, and both the handat his side and the hand resting on Spes and reaching out towards the viewer are empty. The biggest concern and issue is the ingestion of water that is contaminated with fecal matter (1). It has been discovered that the main source of bacteria is this fecal contamination. Fecal matter can enter water sources by runoff from farms or any area that contains many animals. This contamination can also come from insects, rats, or other small animals entering wells or water sources (2). Testing the quality of water, it is often common to test if the water contains coliforms. It is easier to test for coliforms, instead of testing for bacteria that can cause each waterborne disease. Coliforms are gram negative, facultative anaerobic bacteria that do not form endospores. They are also rod shaped and will ferment lactose (slides). When they ferment lactose, this will produce acid and gas. This acid and gas production will allow the total coliform count to be determined. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Analysis Of Normal Life By Dean Spade Dean Spade and Critical Trans Politics Activist and professor Dean Spade, in his book Normal Life: Administrative Violence, Critical Trans Politics, and the Limits of Law, condemns current law policies surrounding discrimination and hate crimes against transgender and gender non conforming populations. Spade proposes a critical trans politics that is superior to the equal rights efforts of gay and lesbian activists up to this point in United States history. Instead of desiring to be included in a law enforcement system that oppresses the people it claims to protect, proponents of Spade s critical trans politics argue that the entire system, along with all related systems of policing and regulation, need to be either fundamentally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This drastically reduces the life chances of poor people, queer and trans people, immigrants, and people of color. In practice, every law system and mainstream law reform effort has attempted to assign people and groups of people into two categories: who is worthy of a chance at a good life, and who is not. Spade s proposal of a critical trans politics creates a system in which life chances are redistributed in a way that gives marginalized groups the opportunity to survive and succeed. Within the United States government en masse, there are many legal systems that contribute to the uneven distribution of life chances and thus require dismantling and radical reconstruction. These include the criminal justice system, the education system, the prison system (also called the prison industrial complex), the social welfare system, the immigration system, the housing system, the healthcare system, and the U.S. military. Each of these legal and political systems in some way targets a specific population within the United States, very often transgender and gender variant people, and directly reduces that population s life chances. This is the issue that Spade seeks to amend when he proposes the move toward a critical trans politics. Changing how large governmental structures function is neither an easy task nor a quick one; it will require the undoing and unlearning of a very tightly held political and economic system by all parties involved. • 37. The Lost Mariner Character Analysis Korsakov s Syndrome and Memory Loss Losing one s memory can be a mysterious affliction, and the causes can be quite complex. Severe memory loss is introduced in author Oliver Sacks collection of stories The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat, and lectures given by professor Jim Davies can help with understanding of some of the concepts introduced in the book. In chapter two, The Lost Mariner, the patient Jimmie is suffering from aspects of both retrograde and anterograde amnesia, which Davies explained as loss of memory of events or facts learned before an event (the event that caused the amnesia), and loss of ability to create new memories after the event, respectively. In more detail, and in relation to our book (here, the target example), retrograde amnesia would consist of any loss of memory that happened prior to an event, such as an injury or onset of disease in Jimmie s case. Dr. Davies explanation of retrograde amnesia helps to understand Jimmie s case, where in the year 1975 he is unable to recall any events after 1945. As well, the explanation of anterograde amnesia as including symptoms such as inability to form new memories, learn information or tasks, or to recall the recent past is useful when applied to Jimmie s experience of not being able to recall events that happened even a few minutes prior. Jimmie s suffering from both retro and anterograde amnesia, as explained by Sacks, results from Korsakov s syndrome a destruction of memory caused by alcoholic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. The Japanese Tea Ceremony By Sen No Rikkyu The Japanese tea ceremony (chanoyu) is derived from the influence of the Zen Buddhist masters of the 14th and 15th centuries. In the 1500s, Sen No Rikkyu embraced the ideas of simplicity. He developed a tea ritual that comprised of no wasted movement and no unneeded objects. Instead of using expensive imported utensils, Rikkyu made tea in a thatched hut simply using an iron kettle, a plain container for tea, a tea scoop, a whisk made from bamboo, and a common rice bowl for drinking the tea. In a Rikyu style tearoom, the only decorations were a hanging scroll or a vase of flowers placed in the alcove. The lack of decoration makes participants more aware of details and awakens them to the simple beauty around them. The host of the tea ceremony may prepare significantly for the event. This involves practicing all steps and hand movements, so that every aspect of the ceremony is perfect, yet simple. I was a bit put off by the task of reading the entire Postman book, Amusing Ourselves to Death, however, the topics in each chapter make for some thought provoking and tantalizing ideas of the societal issues that we seem to take for granted. I ve learned through reading Neil Postman s book(1985), Amusing Ourselves to Death, that we seem to look at forms of communication as following a linear path. The invention of easy communication created a niche in societies that became a place for further discourse, sharing of ideas and knowledge, but in the end, was used ultimately to control, shape and form the masses. Neil Postman delved into topics that I think are somewhat forgotten by history and societies as they become so engrained in our way of viewing the world around us. Jean Kilbourne (1999) taught me that we are all subjected to societal gender normalization through mass media, print media and news programs. Mr. Williams has made significant contributions to the arts of music and film. To fully understand the gravity of his achievements and their affect on humanity, we must first look at the progression of sound in film; the effect music has in film and its audience; and lastly his accomplishments of music and film. In the infancy of film, movies were silent but not without sound. To make film a more pleasant experience, music was provided to cover up the ambient noise of the projector and help create an agreeable atmosphere, often by the use of a solo piano. (Fischoff, S.
