Isabella as an Independent Female in Shakespeare s Measure...
It seems rare in a Shakespearean play to find a female character to whom women in this new
millennium can relate. Modern women are expected to be strong, independent, educated and
intelligent, and in control of their own destinies. Women are also considered to be on equal footing
with their male counterparts in regards to abilities, privileges, and rights. Although these ideals may
not be completely realistic in the real world, in general, these are the ways in which a twenty first
century womanis perceived. In the time period Shakespeare was writing in the abilities and roles
expected of women were very different. For women in Shakespeare s Measure for Measure, there
are extremely limited roles women can fulfill and all of them centre... Show more content on

As a nun Isabella would have little contact with men and would not be answerable to anyone other
than her female order. Isabella is unavailable to any men, even Angelo. She does not conform to
one of the roles society deems appropriate for a female. She is a virgin but has no intention of
marrying. She believes passionately in her faith and would not sacrifice her body for any sinful
reason, meaning that she would never become a prostitute. As a virgin destined to remain so the
rest of her life, Isabella falls outside of Angelo s understanding.
Even before she takes the vows Isabella does not seem to have any strong male roles directing
her life. Claudio is her only relation and she spends the duration of the play trying to rescue him
rather than the other way around. Rather than rendering her vulnerable this lack of male
dominance seems to suit Isabella quite well. She is intelligent and outspoken in her defence of
her brother, boldly contradicting Angelo on several occasions. Angelo claims there is no remedy
(2.2.49) to Claudio s sentence but Isabella does not accept this saying, Yes, I do think that you
might pardon him (2.2.50). Just ten lines later she does this again, boldly questioning what he has
told her instead of accepting Angelo s decree. Isabella even dares, in this same speech, to instruct
Angelo in her beliefs about mercy as most becoming of a person in authority: Not the king s crown,
nor the deputed sword, / The marshal s truncheon, nor the

An Analysis Of Ehrenreich s Bait And Switch
According to The New York Times, the average person born in the later years of the baby boom
held around 10.5 jobs between the age of 18 and 40, which is much more than what the previous
generations held. The job one obtains after graduation would probably not be the last job of his/her
lifetime, that is in today s corporate race, a job becomes more of a pit stop one to stay in until either
the employer or employee feels dissatisfied rather than a final destination. Given this condition, a
person must constantly show their worth and perform better than others to stay employed, but it
seems that the situation is not that simple; many stumble over transitions between jobs, falling off
tracks just the slightest and finding themselves unable to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to journalists Katty Kay and Claire Shipman in The Atlantic article The Confidence
Gap , confidence is a belief in one s ability to succeed, a belief that stimulates action (Kay and
Shipman 151). As important it is to be knowledgeable with a warehouse full of experiences, if
one only keeps the knowledge to him/herself, this knowledge will not have the chance to be
applied, or let alone appreciated. This would clearly be more difficult for introverts and women
than for extroverts and men, but we must overcome this barrier to have a successful career. Due
to both nature and nurture, women tend to internalize their failures and mistakes, falsely blaming
themselves for being incompetent, resorting to being even more careful and shy in taking
actions, which stops them from taking risks that might be the key to stand out and succeed. To
overcome the lack of confidence, we need to swallow our doubts, stop thinking so much and just
act (Kay and Shipman 153). Confidence is the language needed to deliver our skills, and at the
end of the day, confidence can also be self perpetuating, and having confidence could help us better
recover from failures and be a better person as a

Theme Of Bliss By Katherine Mansfield
Bliss is a short story written by Katherine Mansfield in 1918.The story focuses on a day of Bertha
Young who is a lovely, restless and kind of hysterical woman. She is married Harry and they have
a little baby called as Little B and on that day, they invite their friends, the Norman Knights, Eddie
Warren and Pearl Fulton for a dinner. During all this conventional scene, we, as readers, witness the
journey of Bertha from ignorance to awareness about her loveand sexual desire for another woman,
Miss Fulton. Mansfield reveals Bertha s sexual orientation through the technique of symbolism by
using many lively and colorful images such as a pear tree, moon and a walled garden. In the late
19th the early 20th century, homosexuality was common among people in England although it was
seen as a criminal act and there were many penances... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She organizes, for instance, the fruits according to their colors and her garden, especially the
pear tree in it, bears importance for her. She likens herself to that colorful and blossomy tree. And
she seemed to see on her eyelids the lovely pear tree with its wide open blossoms as a symbol of
her own life (6). That s why, at the end, when she learns the affair between Harry and Pearl, she
runs over to window to see the pear tree, to see that it is still there intact. Oh, what is going to
happen now? She cried. But the pear tree was as lovely as ever and as full of flower an as still (16)
Also, the pear tree serves Mansfield s view that one can be both female and male at the same in a
relationship. In many literary works, especially the ones that belong to Medieval period, pear
tree is used as a symbol of phallus of male. Thus, Mansfield ascribes masculinity to Bertha in her
relationship with Miss Fulton by likening her to the pear tree. Like a pear tree, moon is also used
as a symbol of gender

Applying A Rolling Admissions Process
As mentioned earlier, when our prospect applies to the four selected colleges from Figure 6.4, they
will utilize the LSAC as mandated from each institution. That provides for straightforward
management of those applications with submission dates synchronizing with the University of
Florida the earliest one. That way, all institutions can be concurrently applied rather than piecemeal
this process. Anyway, it turns out that some of the law schools in question employ a rolling
admissions process where the institution can potentially notify applicants anytime inside a
window of an admissions decision. As a result, if all material checks for completeness and
accuracy, doesn t it make sense to submit all materials as early as possible?... Show more content on

To begin with, applicants must send official college transcripts using the Registrar at specific
points in the process; initially as preliminary transcripts, followed by periodic updates and finally
after graduation. Likewise, registrants having professional appraisals directed from third party
principals on their behalf utilize the Letter of Recommendation (LOR) and Evaluation services
ultimately bundling them with other CAS documentation. Figure 6.5 below provides a list of many
or most requirements and optional items that might accompany our prospect s applications,
including the transcript release forms for the Registrar and evaluation forms for individuals
writing assessments discussed above. They will, of course, vary per each school s admissions
instructions. Sometimes people spend so much time developing elaborate strategies and plans that
they overlook the obvious. An applicant should anticipate positive events just as diligently as
preparing for failure (via a Plan B). The significance of a rolling admissions process has the
potential for receiving notifications at different points in time. Understanding the acceptance/denial
protocols regarding the admissions process for each institution should not be disregarded. Another
aspect seeks to avoid waiting for a preference never materializing only to

A Brief Biography of Ivan the Terrible
Ivan IV Vasilyevich (1530 1584), was the first of two children of Basil III and Elena Glinskaya.
Ivan came into the world on August 25, 1530. Nearly a year after this Ivan s father died when he
was only three. Basil had died due to a small, little pimple on his thigh that had developed into a
deadly sore. Basil requested at his deathbed that his son Ivan would become the ruler of Russia
when he became a man at age 15. Once Basil died the boyars took over Russia, denying Ivan s
right to the throne. Ivan s mother then with other trusted boyars took over the ruling party.
Elena was able to successfully rule Russia for four years, until she died suddenly in 1538,
apparently from poisoning, leaving eight year old Ivan an orphan. They had ended and that Ivan
had complete power. On Sunday, January 16, 1547, Ivan was crowned czar in Moscow s lavish
Cathedral of the Assumption. Ivan soon married Anastasia Romanovna Zakharyina Yurueva.
Anastasia bore him six children of whom only two survived infancy. At times Ivan was very
devote; he used to throw himself before the icons, banging his head against the floor. It resulted in
a callosity at his forehead. Once Ivan even did a public confession of his sins in Moscow. During
the beginning of Ivan s reign, the administrative functions of the government were handled by two
brothers of Ivan s mother, Prince Yuri Glinsky and Prince Mikhail Glinsky abused their position in
the government, mistreating the boyars and the citizens. Ivan vowed to

Power Of Depression By Joyce Hocker And William Wilmot
Power of Depression
In most situations the term power is looked at between one person or group and another. The
same perspective from the textbook Interpersonal Conflict written by Joyce Hocker and William
Wilmot can be applied when looking at the lack of internal power when going through a phase of
depression. The type of power, level of power, solutions, as well as the RICE perspective can all be
associated with myself and my depressed state I went through for a few months.
Distributive power is a power of domination which forces or manipulates a person into a low
power role or situation. Within a distributive form of power, power itself becomes the main focus
of thinking and discussion by the person of low power. In regard to my personal experience with
depression, the incident is just that definition. In the instance of depression it forced and
manipulated myself to have a lack of power towards my feelings and motivations. The constant
battle is trying to figure out how to escape the hurt, and helplessness you feel internally. Escaping
and gaining power within becomes the main desire as soon as you recognize that you can no
longer handle the pain. Thus, you are in a battle of distributive power fighting between you and the
depression building inside of you.
Wilmot and Hocker defined interpersonal power as the ability to influence relational partner in any
context because you control, or at least the partner perceives that you control, resources that the

Will racism ever come to an end or will its path go on infinitely? For the most part, the majority
of people respect those who are different either in color, race, and/or heritage; however, there are
those few that hold bigoted views towards people who are different than they are. The movie
American History X by Tony Kaye displaysan example of people who hold bigoted views. Derek,
a Neo Nazi leader, must contend with his actions relating to his past racist views and actions. This
powerful movie explores its characters thoroughly and gives reasons why people become so
callous and turn towards a racist group. It also exposes insight to problems that plague America

Derek realized that hatred towards people did not help him, his family, or the situation at hand.
Instead of being negative and destructive, why not be positive. Hurting people and destroying
property does not solve problems, but only makes them worse by causing more resentment and
tension between people (Theriou). Nothing good has ever come out of a situation where one
person has been the victim of a crime or abuse. Good things come out of situations where people
show hospitality, good will, and compassion; not hatred.
It is made very clear that Derek and Danny have no affiliations with the Ku Klux Klan. Derek calls
the KKK a bunch of disorganized rednecks that very inanely run around with sheets on their heads.
Instead they are part of a Neo Nazi group in Southern California. In America today there are
estimated to be about 200,000 members
602 3 associated with white power groups (included in these estimates are supporters and hard
core members plus their families) (Suall). That is a lot of people who are affiliated with known
racist groups. When looking on the Internet a person can realize how much hate is present in our
world. John Hron website has estimates of Neo Nazis in countries and a little bit about how that
country views Nazism. America has about 85,000 Neo Nazi members compared with 47,000
German Neo Nazis. Germany though has a lot

Compare And Contrast Medieval Art And Renaissance Art
When we look at the history of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, we always like to use the
confinement of thinking and the liberation of ideas to sum up the two, especially in the art, the
medieval paintings are often used in dark colors, deformed three dimensional concept Showing the
real world, and often less a bit human nature. And after the Renaissance, the painting masters are
the opposite of it. I am not here to comment on their good or bad, but from the artistic point of
view, to explore whether a good form of art needs to reflect the community and a wide range of
civilizations
The two paintings I exhibited came from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
The first is a medieval painting, created by the Italian painter Duccio creation, we can see that his
paintings are characterized by a typical dark tones, because it is the early Virgin image, painting

Student Loan Debt And Consumer Choice
Student Loan Debt and Consumer Choice In today s society, student loans are haunting the lives of
millions of postgraduates all over the United States. Students who have carelessly taken out loans
and those in serious need of financial aid for their college education are now burdened with
thousands of dollars worth of debt. As the student debt average continues to increase in our nation,
the budgets of postgraduates begin to dwindle and the amount of defaults grow dramatically. With
the large student debts our young adults are now dealt with, recent graduates are forced to
compromise certain aspects of their quality and standard of living after graduation. Our nation s
recent graduate s budgets are being directly affected by the student loandebt and interest accrued
during and after their college careers. Student loans are a form of financial aid given by federal
and private organizations designed to help fund the student s tuition, housing, books, and other
expenses. Student loans are primarily given to those who are in most need of financial assistance.
The interest rates that accompany these loans are relatively lower than those of credit cards,
housing and auto loans, because these loans were meant to be quickly and easily paid off. With
federal interest rates fixed at as low as five percent and private loan interest rates decreasing, it
comes to question: why is the amount of student loan debt in our nation increasing so rapidly? And
with the amount of student loan

Lou Gehrig’s Farewell Speech Essay
Lou Gehrig s Farewell Speech Throughout the course of American history, there have been
copious amounts of famous speeches, spoken by many different people. From political figures
to sports players; these people have provided deep thoughts and great insights about who they

mind. Lou Gehrig s farewell speech , given on July 4th, 1939, to more than 62,000 fans at New
York City s Yankee Stadium, has become a cornerstone in the history of baseball in America. Lou

constant: people love to hear stories from fairytales to ghosts stories. Another constant is that

Examples Of Ambiguity In Catullus
V Ambiguity and Paradoxes
Ambiguity can be defined as a word, phrase, or statement which contains more than one meaning.
Ambiguity leads to vagueness and confusion which creates alternative reactions and understanding
of the same work.
Catullus uses ambiguity to create a sensation that one situation is taking place even when reading
the verse form in context or merely studying the poem in its entirety the work takes on a whole new
significance.
The poem opens with depictions of beauty imaginary of the Argo s first voyage alluding that poem
may be about the myth of Jason and Medea. Later in line 19 though we see the real subject of the
poem is Peleus and Thetis, how they fell in love and their marriage, however, things take a dramatic
turn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of this is the tapestry Ariadne appears on. Catullus does not state its source and origin
nor its purpose.
Yet, more than half of the poem is narrated through the tapestry. We are to believe what it sees,
hears and says but we only have one side, and see a forgetful Theseus whose promises are fitting
to write on the wind. Paradoxically, however, what Ariadne sees also alludes to, and so makes us
see, a different picture: a Theseus who could have been made forgetful to serve the purposes of
Bacch.
In poem 85 as discussed above, Catullus also makes use of paradoxes stating I love and I hate. In
68a Catullus states that he being overcome by grief due to his brother s death is unable to write.
Then in 68b although he is still experiencing the same pain to which he refers in 68a and in which
Catullus repeats almost exactly what he said in 68a, Catullus states that he cannot stop himself from
writing.
He captures two entirely different experiences: first, his inability to write poetry in 68a, due to his
brother death, and second, his inability not to write poetry, despite his brother s

The American Express ( Axp )
Background
In May 15 American Express (AXP) launched a coalition loyalty program called Plenti. Under
coalition loyalty programs, members can earn and redeem points by shopping at participating
merchants (e.g., Exxon, Macys, Rite Aid and ATT.) The program helps consumers to earn rewards
faster and lead to a higher level of engagement with a program which provides merchants an
opportunity to attract new customers and run cross promotional campaigns. However, the biggest
challenge in launching the program was signing up merchants and building an economic case for
shifting away from proprietary to collaborative program.
AXP was in negotiations with Rite Aid to join the program. Under their old loyalty program
(Wellness+), Rite Aid issued reward dollars (+UPs).The dollars could be used for purchase within
their stores over next two weeks, while in Plenti program the points (1 point = 1 cents) are valid
for three years and can be redeemed at any participating merchant. Rite Aid was concerned that if
they joined Plenti, customers will continue to earn points at Rite Aid but with more redemption
options and longer validity, the redemptions will be skewed towards other merchants especially the
Grocer Partner. In effect, they will be subsidizing a loyalty program for the Grocer.
Challenge
As part of the negotiations, our team was tasked to identify and propose Performance Guarantees to
address Rite Aid s concerns.

Examples Of Mental Illness In Macbeth
Have you ever caused physical pain to somebody? Some events have less of an emotional toll on
certain people. However, most people experience the same series of feelings in the rare
occasions such as tragic events and loss of loved ones. Usually, feelings of frustration and grief
come about when someone has been hurt. Examples of this are visible on a much larger scale,
such as causing wars between two or more countries. As wars continue, the typical response from
people living in the countries involved in the war becomes that the war was a misunderstanding
and that they should have avoided it at all costs. This has occurred throughout history, and even
becomes a projecting part of today s literature. The psychological path bestowed in William

Literature has given us a resounding amount of multidimensional characters that the typical

Shakespeare s life working as a writer, he has included such characters. In Shakespeare s Macbeth,
Lady Macbeth seems to be perhaps the most mentally unstable character of them all. Lady Macbeth
s mental problems have been apparent since the first time the reader is introduced to her. As soon

actual ambition to become welterweight champion of the world. When he is visiting Doc in the
prison, he learns that there is a boxing squad at the prison. He says, I ve got to start boxing
because I have to become the welterweight champion of the world (187). When Peekay is a little
older, he says, Mrs. Boxall knew that nothing, not even marriage to Miss Bornstein, was allowed
to stand in the way of my being welterweight champion of the world. (274) Peekay is in love with
Miss Bornstein, but he is more in love with the prospect of being welterweight champion. Later in
the book, he mentions that he even values boxing over education: I placed less importance on my
intelligence than on my prowess as a boxer (330). Peekay s heart was in boxing. He says, The only
totally independent thing in my life was my ambition to become the welterweight champion of the
world. It was the only thing that couldn t be manipulated. (462) Hoppie is always with Peekay
through the obsession with boxing he instilled on him. Peekay s early interests have stuck with him
and shaped his identity.

The Jewish Religion
When choosing my classes at the beginning of the semester I wanted to choose something that I
was interested in learning but didn t know much about, and that s exactly why I chose to take
this Jewish Studies course. As I was raised a Catholic and attended Catholic school all my life I
knew very little about the Jewish Religion. Now my knowledge of the Jewish faith has
strengthened and has been fulfilled with the help of this class and Rabbi Bogot. The phrase I
chose to right my term paper on is the word and meaning of Mitzvah also known as commandment.
As stated in the syllabus packet A Mitzvah is a God mandated behavior. These behaviors,
introduced in the Torahas statutes and ordinances for the Hebrew people, define the ways in which

A Bar Mitzvah or a Bat Mitzvah is when a boy or girl reaches the age of thirteen and they are now
obligated to observe the commandments and are welcomed into adulthood. These are both
celebrated through the gathering or family and friends in the form of a party. This celebration is
one of the rituals of the Jewish religion.
Mitzvot (plural of Mitzvah) are understood to come from God and intended for Jewish people to
observe and partake in. Some Jewish people that live on the Western side of the world believe
there is some contradiction with the thought of being commanded to act in something because it
takes away from their right to choose how to behave. In the Torah, it says that when God gave the
commandments he declared, Behold, I have set before you the blessing [of observing the
commandments] and the curse [the potential punishment of failing to observe the Mitzvot]
therefore, choose life! . The Jewish people interpreted this as God acknowledging that Jews have a
choice and he wants them to choose the right one. All Jewish people have different beliefs behind
the importance of a Mitzvah. Some believers attempted to prove that Mitzvot are all sensible,
logical actions that any person with ethical morals would welcome. Whereas others reject that
belief and believe that the six hundred and thirteen commandments improve them as human beings
and refines them into honest and impartial people by obeying God

The Unjust Trade And Enslavement Of Human Beings
The unjustified trade and enslavement of human beings is known as human trafficking. Traffic
victims are most times compelled to sell their freedom, and are subject to coercive subjugation.
Human trafficking occurs throughout the United States and globally. Trafficking of person is
driven by high profits and low risk, as traffickers generate billions of dollars yearly, and a low
chance of the activities of traffickers been discovered by appropriate authorities. Trafficking of
humans ultimately has grave consequences on it victims. Human Traffickingis described as the
recruitment, transportation, and transfer of persons for exploitation purposes. This is usually
carried out by the means of threat or use of force and other forms of coercion, abduction, fraud,
deception and abuse of persons in a vulnerable position. Rarely, the giving and receiving of
payments or benefits are given to persons to be exploited in order to achieve their consent. In the
United States, the attempts to commit, participate as an accomplice, organize or direct others to
commit trafficking is considered a criminal offence which could earn a human trafficker between
three years to life in prison based on individual state laws. According to S.Bhat C. Joseph (2013),
trafficking in humans can occur in various ways: Human trafficking occurs in the form of sex
trafficking, where women and children are reduced to sexual commodities, bonded labor indicated

Evolution vs. Creation Science
Adam Clayton Powell Jr. once stated, There is no future for a people who deny their past
(Applewhite, Evans, III, and Frothingham 474). This statement has rung true for the world for
centuries; the majority of individuals cannot fathom the concept of discovering how mankind came
to be through scientific nature. By denying this truth, the world will not be able to develop.
Evolutionis verifiable in comparison to creation science because of the theories, evidence, and the
increasing acceptance in today s society. In order to discuss the irrefutable nature of evolution, one
must be able to fully grasp the history of this groundbreaking knowledge. Evolution is often

One form of evidence is known as the fossil record; this is the documentation of one species that
has transitioned into another form. A prime example of the fossil record is the evolution of birds.
These flying creatures are often considered direct descendants of dinosaurs; Thomas Henry Huxley
constructed this notion in the 1860s. Evidence of this theory came about in 1861 when the first,
complete skeleton was discovered; the skeleton was of the Archaeopteryx lithographica. There was
no mistaking that Archaeopteryx lithographica was a dinosaur because of features it adorned,
including a bony tail, teeth, and claws on the wings. The troubling detail of this ancient creature
was a new feature that had been discovered: feathers. This ignited the on going search for
dinosaurian skeletons, providing clear evidence in support of Darwin s theory. In addition, direct
observation has provided an enormous amount of evidence to prove a major component of Darwin
s theory of evolution: natural selection. The first piece of evidence is the infamous peppered
moths. The peppered moths are also known as Biston betularia; they are commonly found in
Britain. The moths often fly during the night but they rest on trees during the day; this is a clever
way to camouflage themselves from predators. There are two very common types of these moths:
the typicall and carbonaria. The typicall can be described as a pale, speckled moth that is hidden

Honesty In Americanah
Honesty is regarded as a virtue, especially in relationships, where both individuals are expected to
be honest with each other. Conversely, lying in relationships is seen as disingenuous and often
destroys the relationship. Yet in Americanah, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie destabilizes our notion
that lies are inherently negative by using a lie to ground a seemingly easygoing relationship
between Obinze, the male protagonist, and his mother. Obinze and his mother have the perfect
relationship, but it all seems to crumble with just one lie. When they are first introduced, the two

better chance of achieving his dream to go to America from England than from Nigeria (290).
From this, Obinze begins to comprehend the unspoken words in his relationship with his mother,
how she loved him enough to willingly sacrifice her own integrity just to help him. Struck with
this newfound perspective and emotional regret, once he returned to Nigeria, he spent a lot of time
with her, determined to make amends (291). This rough patch between Obinze and his mother not
only brings the two closer together, but also grounds their relationship in reality, as no good
relationship is perfect. Even after his mother s death, Obinze confesses how he sometimes forgot
she had died and would make cursory plans about flying to the east to see her (458). This
demonstrates the integral role his relationship with his mother played in his life, and how their
relationship most likely recovered, and even strengthened, after the lie. After all, it seems that even

Theories Of Humanitarian Intervention
Section one deals with the debates that surround the issues of humanitarian intervention and just
war theory on the basis of international scale. One article by Holzgrefe is completely focused on
the debate, stating the many ethical theories of many different theorists: from utilitarianism; natural
law; social contractrianism; communitarianism; and legal postivism (7). Holzgrefe goes on to
define what each ethical theorist is and their understanding of the debate on humanitarian
intervention. However, there is the idea of when it is right to intervene and when intervention is
unfavorable. The most interesting part was the third section of the article.

The idea of selective is that it is based on a voluntary choice to determine when and why one
should intervene when massacres and wars are surrounding certain countries. Brown sets up an
example where he discusses the speech of Prime Minister Tony Blair, in Blair s last question, he
asked do we have national interests involved? (4). Brown discusses how this question alone
shows selectivity. Brown goes on to say that what Blair meant was that unless interests are
directly involved, intervention is likely short lived and ineffective (6). However, goes back to the
idea of human rights violations, which has been the one of the main reasons why all these articles
have some theorist/individuals who are trying to validate that a good reason to intervene is for the
sole purpose of human rights, that it is not an obligation, but as a way to treat human as an end not

Conflict of Opposing Forces in Of Mice and Men Essay
Conflict is a struggle between opposing forces. There can be multiple conflicts in a story. This
is the case in Of Mice and Men. In chapters three and four, there are man vs. man, man vs. self,
and man vs. society conflicts. As George and Lennie interact with the workers on the ranch,
sometimes conflicts arise between them. Man vs. man is a type of conflict in which two or

Candy undergoes a personal struggle. When Carlson tells him that his dog is old and suffering

Ansel Adams is using pure straight photography meaning that when he takes a photograph he
wants to make it look as realistic as possible, this also means that Ansel Adams did not use any
kind of manipulation software to edit his pictures in any way. In the photograph of Half Dome
Ansel Adams uses no staged light sources in the photograph of Half Dome. The only light source
that is used in the photograph of Half Dome is from the setting sun, or the sun that is beginning to

lighting. The pure lighting comes from the sun setting. Ansel Adams also does not use any diffuse

believe Ansel Adams uses cool colors. Ansel Adams also uses a complementary harmony in the

Detecting Facial Cues and Body Language
Expressions are very valuable, as they can prompt us regarding opportunities and threats in
individuals and scenarios that we encounter. Happiness indicates an approachable person while
anger signifies someone to stay away from. These two decisions are the most basic and simplest
behavioral decisions.
But sometimes, this decision does go wrong, since humans are after all humans. And along with the
mistake, some circumstances are riskier than others. Such as going up to a vicious person might be
an inherently costly mistake than avoiding a person who is actually safe to approach ( Haselton
Buss, 2000).
A highly adapted system of perception might be more attuned to locating cues that would signify
danger, such as the facial intensity in locating hints of anger, in individuals who seem to possess the
capability in dealing out more harm as distinguished by their built, carrying armaments and other
details. Some might not even present any immediate risk, but overlooking an identifying cue that
could indicate the stranger being harmful is a costly mistake due to bodily harm being a possibility
than when seeing such cues where there are none.
Approach, on the other hand, is a tricky matter. And as such, people afford opportunities that are
positive. Failing in getting into contact with a person who presents a favorable opportunity,
whether it is related to providing social support or willing to share resources, may be costly as well
but not overly damaging. And as such, a tuned

Telescopes Are Those That Use Both Mirrors And Lenses
Catadioptric: Catadioptric telescopes are those that use both mirrors and lenses to produce an
image. The most common or popular type of catadioptric telescope is the Schmidt Cassegrain
telescope. Schmidt Cassegrain telescopes (SCT) are a catadioptric design, meaning they use
both lenses and mirrors. SCTs are primarily reflecting telescopes, but they use a corrector lens to
eliminate aberrations that would result from the mirror design alone. In an SCT the incoming
light passes through the Schmidt corrector lens (also called a corrector plate) at the front of
telescope. It is reflected from a concave primary mirror at the back of the scope which focuses
the light to the front of the telescope where it is reflected again by a smaller, convex secondary
mirror. Finally, the light travels back through a hole in the primary mirror to the rear of the
scope where an eyepiece is located for visual observing. (Starizona.com, 2015) Below is a ray
diagram of a Schmidt Cassegrain telescope: (A levelphysicstutor.com, 2015) At first it seems that
an SCT should have a focal length twice as long as the length of the tube, since the light travels
twice the length of the tube. However, SCTs actually have focal lengths about 5 times longer than
the tube length. This is due to the convex curvature of the secondary mirror. This effectively
magnifies the focal length, making the scope act much longer than it is. The diagram below shows
how a Cassegrain type telescope (such as an SCT)

The Concept of Freedom an Article by Joel Feinberg Essay
While many words throughout the English language can paint a vivid image or idea, the word
freedom is perhaps one of the most ambiguous. It is defined as the following: the fact of not being
controlled by subject or fate; the power of self determination attributed to will ( Freedom ). Its
definition cannot be simplified into one dimension, and its interpretation is completely contextual.
The reason that the definition from the Oxford English Dictionarywas given prior, was due to its
broadness; making it a more well suited definition to describe the concept of freedom. In
analyzing freedom, similar words will be discussed, freedom s characteristics described, and

A prisoner of war may feel ecstatic when the war is over and he can finally go back home to his
family; free from his oppressors. A conservative may feel outraged by the idea of abortion being
legalized, but those supporting it may feel relief for women; knowing they are now free to act with
their own bodies accordingly. Freedom evokes different emotions in different instances, and most
words cannot achieve that to the same extent that freedom can. Another attribute associated with
freedom, as illustrated before, is its versatility. Freedom can not only evoke many emotions, but can
have multiple meanings. It can be representative of its synonyms is one sense and its antonyms in
another. In the abortion example, the legalization of abortion could be liberating to those who
support it, and restrictive to those who believe that it is immoral, unholy, destructive to society, et
cetera.
In Joel Feinberg s article, The Concept of Freedom, he discusses how the word free, without any
context, does not shed any light on what makes something free. According to Feinberg, most
general ascriptions of freedom are best understood as elliptical, or abbreviate for some longer
expression...we may have to add specifications of what someone is free from, or is free to do, or
more precisely who it is whose freedom is at issue (10). Without specifics, people will remain

Community
The point that community has an important effect on the shaping of a person s character is key in

The two authors present ideas, similar and different, of what it means to live in and be a part of
community. Through examining these two essays, summarizing and synthesizing, we can gain a

She goes on to talk of other aspects of her community such as politics and women s roles but stays
on the point that her community has a very important part in shaping her character and the
character of those around her. Then she goes on to point out that the separation of political and
cultural and spiritual is an artificial separation that s articulated by industrial society (10). LaDuke
was raised with a different sense of values than most Americans and goes on to describe her
upbringing. She notes that she was raised with little appreciation for American culture and that
consumerism, in part, is responsible for cultural destruction. Her main idea lies in the difference
between the average American community and the way she lives in her Native community at
White Earth. She points out the down side to the American community, such as consumerism and
deculturalizing of people, and tells of some of the values that her Native community has installed
upon her and her children, like respect and community, which is really her main idea.
Both of these essays point out how community shapes character. In Peay s essay she concentrates
on community as ones surroundings. She would consider community as the city in which one lives.
LaDuke is more concerned with community as a person s ideals or way of life. Both authors imply
that a person s sense of place provokes a

example having boy and girl friend is normal in western society but it is prohibited in Arab

instances if people are open to have relationship with multiple partner it will create sexual infected

if there were more answers to the questions people have, just maybe then polyamory wouldn t be

whether polyamory and adultery are similar or go hand in hand. This is not true, polyamory is

Assess The Impact Of Transnational Cinema
Being an island nation makes us a trading nation, which is an obvious connection between borders.
How we trade with each other allows for transnational cinema to be present and is the basis for an
understanding, which connects people across geographical borders. Following the recent European
referendum it is relevant to mention how this will affect the UK s filmindustry regarding trade. The
MEDIA Scheme/Creative Europefunding will be stopped, co productions with different countries
will be harder to achieve in the short term, British/European co productions may need new
legislation, and fewer UK films will be shown in European cinemas as well as many other negative
outcomes (Follows, 2016). However this shows how much transnationalism affects UK trade,
company distribution and future films success as well as the impact which politics has upon the
film industry. This shows how not only cast/crewmembers nationalities, the location and the
storyline matters in transnational cinema, but the trade and distribution after the film is made all
enhance the transnationality of the piece.
Interestingly, it seems when discussing terrorism in cinema, filmmakers more often than not make
films about terrorism that has happened in their own country. Hollywood cinema noticeably has an
absence of terrorism, whereas European films in contrast have far more. ... Show more content on

1. Mindfulness Meditation
Mindfulness Meditation is an adaptation from traditional Buddhist meditation practices.
For a beginner, this is perhaps the most advisable way to get started with meditation. It is the type
of meditation that is most taught at schools and hospitals.
Mindfulness meditation is the practice of intentionally focusing on the present moment, accepting
and non judgmentally paying attention to the sensations, thoughts, and emotions that arise.
How to do it:
Sit on a cushion on the floor, or on a chair, with straight and unsupported back. Pay close attention

Your mind will get distracted into going along with sounds, sensations, and thoughts. Whenever that
happens, gently recognize that you have been distracted, and bring the attention back to the
breathing, or to the objective noticing of that thought or sensation. There is a big different between
being inside the thought/sensation, and simply being aware of it s presence.
There is also the practice of mindfulness during our daily activities: while eating, walking, and
talking. For daily life meditation, the practice is to pay attention to what is going on in the present
moment, to be aware of what is happening and not living in automatic mode . If you we speaking,
that means paying attention to the words we speak, how we speak them, and to listen with presence

touching the ground, the sounds you we hearing, etc.
Our effort in seated practice supports our daily life practice, and vice versa. They are both equally

Incentives are seen everywhere in daily life and they appear in a variety of ways. Whether a
person is making a choice between what to eat for lunch or when to go to bed, they are being
influence by incentives. For example, images of an appealing lunch meal in a TV commercial may
make someone choose Subway over Mcdonalds. However, the same thought process can motivate
someone to prefer a meal at McDonalds because of the company s constant promotion of their
dollar menu (Mcdonalds, 2013). Either of these incentives can appeal to a person, depending on
what they are motivated by, in this case, either health or money.
The Bible is full of different forms of incentives. Some people can skim the Bible and note its
major incentive; the opportunity for eternal life. However a deeper knowledge of what God says
shows many more incentives. Other incentives are exemplified in the Bible: believers have faith
which gives them peace (Romans 5:1), faith leads to loving the Creator and experiencing His
love (Psalms 85:10), and the knowledge of right and wrong gives an opportunity for forgiveness
(Acts 2:38). All of these reasons for believing the Bible, along with many more, can motivate a
person to choose that specific approach to life.
In its essence, an incentive is a deliberate proposal calculated to make a person choose a certain
action. Thus, the reason why incentives are so popular in society is because everything and

Unit 3 Film Analysis
The best use of 3D in films comes when a filmmaker is trying to absorb the audience into a
different world. Scorsese s *Hugo* leads the audience into Scorsese s magical and whimsical
Paris with a gorgeous train staton. *Coraline* draws the audience into Coraline s disturbing
alternative life. *Avatar* literally creates a separate world and realizes it with 3D. Marvel s
*Doctor Strange*, while not equal in overall cinematic quality to these films, uses 3D incredibly
well to align the audience with Doctor Strange and experience the kaleidoscopic other dimensional
worlds of the film. These extraordinary moments of 3D stand in stark contrast with the flatter,
more ordinary world Doctor Strange used to live in before he became a sorcerer/guy with a beard....

In it, physical objects can be twisted, distorted, and re shaped in *Inception* on steroids ways.
The opening scene of the film shows off this dimension before even introducing the main
character. The Ancient One (Tilda Swindon) and Kaecilius (Mads Mikkelsen) are battling in this
mirror dimension. Just like how *Avatar* and *Hugo* start with shots that show off their 3D,
this scene essentially screams its use of 3D. Buildings rotate and bend in front of the audience.
Shatter patterns and cracks in space appear in front of the screen. Streaks of magical power and
broken bits of building fly out. The camera tilts, rotates, and pans, flipping the entire world (and
the audience) on its side. The audience can t help but be aware of (and, the filmmaker hopes,
awed by) the spectacle they are witnessing. It s a mind bending opening that draws in the viewer
not only does it tell the audience that this is a 3D film, but it also indicates what visuals, effects,
and patterns to expect from the film, even as it cuts to the comparatively mundane and flat surgeon

Reviews on Financial Risk Management
A Review on Financial Risk Management Tianshu Hou FMRM 0811 Dec. 2011 гЂђOutlineгЂ‘ I.
Introduction II. The definition and types of financial risk III. Risk management and the theoretical
foundation IV. The process of financial risk management V. The challenges faced by the modern
financial risk management theories гЂђAbstractгЂ‘ Financial risks are exposures of uncertainties
for those participants in financial market. Financial risks can be divided into four categories:
market risk, credit risk, liquidity risk and operational risk. Risk management has become more and
more crucial for a market participant to survive in the highly competitive market. As the
development of the global financial market, there are many phenomena that... Show more content

Liquidity risk arises from situations in which a party interested in trading an asset cannot do it
because nobody in the market wants to trade that asset. Liquidity risk becomes particularly
important to parties who are about to hold or currently hold an asset, since it affects their ability to
trade. D. Operational risk. Operational risk is the risk of loss resulting from inadequate or failed
internal processes, people and systems, or from external events. Nowadays, the study and
management of operational risk is getting more attention. The organizations are trying to perfect
their internal control to minimize the possibility of risk. At the same time, the mature theory of
other subjects, such as operational research methods, are also introduced to the management of
operational risk. Overall, financial risk management is a process to deal with the uncertainty
resulting from financial markets. It involves assessing the financial risks facing an organization and
developing management strategies consistent with internal priorities and policies. Addressing
financial risks proactively may provide an organization with a competitive advantage. It also
ensures that management, operational staff, stockholders, and the board of directors are in
agreement on key issues. III. Risk Management and the Theoretical Foundation Financial market
participant s attitude towards risk can be basically divided into the following categories. A. Avoid

The Pathology of Whitenes in Pym, by Mat Johnson
Mat Johnsons novel, Pym challenges readers not only to view his work with a new set of eyes but
also the work of all American literature with the understanding that the idea of Whiteness still has a
very strong power over literature today. It is unfortunate that in today s society, the pathology of
Whiteness still holds a very strong presence in literary world. Literature from American authors
versus literature from African Americanauthors still continues to be segregated and handled with
two different sets of criteria. Johnson s novelengages in different aspects of the argument presented
in Toni Morrison s work entitled Playing in the Dark: Whiteness and the Literary Imagination. One
of the main ideals that Pym engages in is the thought... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When he meets the man hired to be replacement at the bar the young man expresses to him that
he plans to join the diversity committee to make a difference. Jaynes replies to him saying You re
not fighting Whiteness, you re feeding its perversion (20). While some feel as though things such
as diversity committees are put into place to help erase the racial lines that divide American
cultures, if these committees prove to be stagnate and unproductive they are really just keeping
the systems segregated. It is easy to say that you have a diversity committee but if it is not actively
trying to fight against segregation and focusing on all Americans being viewed as one instead of as
different subsets, the committee becomes useless. Instead of the diversity committee representing
change, it is aiding in pathology of Whiteness. Johnson takes Morrison s argument past simply
identifying that Whiteness is still very much dominate in literature today and focuses on ways that
we are still helping it to exist. He challenges the reader to identify the roles they are taking in
keeping this impenetrable whiteness alive and helps them see that they are too affected by the
pathology of Whiteness. Johnson challenges the readers by addressing the very thing that they do
to try to make a change is what is holding

The Issues Of The Midwifery And Obstetrics
In recent years, midwifery and obstetrics have become two of the most prominent and primary
ways of care for women of childbearing age in comparison to unassisted births and other
documented methods. Although midwifery is not as prevalent as obstetrics, there is a rise in
midwifery today. In the United States women and their partners are faced with the choice of
who should provide care before, during and after pregnancy. As of today there has been a rise in
how many births are attended by nurse midwives than it was a quarter of a century ago but the
number of births attended by an obstetrician gynecologist (OBGYN) is still significantly higher.
Faced with either option, OBGYN or nurse midwife, women of childbearing age are not
adequately informed or are misinformed on their choices when it comes to each specialty. This
paper explores the issue of women being thoroughly informed on their birth options and on which
provider is necessary. This paper also compares the two professions, midwifery and obstetricsin the
realm of pregnancy, pregnancy care and childbirth. This examination of professional practices for
pregnant women points out the limitations of each obstetrician gynecologists and their attendance
in low risk pregnancies and deliveries and suggests the need for midwives more than ever.
Choices: Midwifery Today
What is choice? Is it making an informed decision based on facts or is it deciding between
opposing factors based on pure emotion? Perhaps it is just

The Meaning Of The Four Seasons
In this essay I will explain the definition of a concerto, what it is, where it was developed and
who made it popular. I will also discuss the most creative composer of the solo concerto who was
Antonio Vivaldi. Thirdly I will focus on the main traits Vivaldi developed in a concerto with
reference to one of his most enchanting works The Four Seasons.
Concerto
A concerto is a musical composition for a solo instrument or instruments accompanied by an
orchestra .The soloist will have the opportunity to show their potential during the cadenza part in a
concerto. A cadenza is an embellished solo section, usually placed at the end of the first movement
of a concerto. Concerto defines as a word both meaning competing and accommodating . Contrast,
is a popular aspect in a concerto during the Baroque ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The structural thinking behind the Four Seasons was that each movement twelve in all (three
per season) would evoke a certain mood. Vivaldi delivered elegance and originality in his work.
His music mirrors graphically the action described; this literary link is called program
music.Vilvaldis four season concertos were based on an Italian sonnet, likely written by Vivaldi
where he depicts and illustrates the narratives through his compositions. For example, in Vivaldi s
second concerto summer he depicts a peaceful, calm mood at the beginning of the first movement.
The atmosphere is extraordinarily vivid, depicting the oppressive heat from the Mediterranean sun.
The plaintive signs of the violin, separated by silences which suggest the intake of breath is a
tiring exertion, it gives no hint to the explosive energy that lies ahead. (See example two). In the
concerto Winter he evokes a thunder storm, with the use of piercing high notes in the violin at a
rapid speed. For

Novel: Oliver Twist

Research Question:
How does Charles Dickens expose the awful treatment of children?
Charles Dickens discusses about the Barbarism which Oliver had to face. As a small child
Oliver was not given proper food since Mrs. Mann uses up most of the money of the care for her
own needs to make her life comfortable.Oliver Twist is blackmailed by Mrs.Mann to cry and say
that he will be missing her before leaving to the workhouse where he was born. But nothing could

This quote from the book shows how miserable his life was, especially in the workhouse.
Crimson with fury, Oliver started up; overthrew the chair and table; seized Noah by the throat;
shook him, in the violence of his rage, till his teeth chattered in his head; and collecting his whole
force into one heavy blow, felled him to the ground.
This quote describes how Oliver acted with rage when Noah abused his mother.
The remarks in the beginning of chapter 6 are highly ironic as he describes how mourners
present at the funeral of a wealthy elderly relative are able to prevail over their misery, when
actually get to inherit a lot of wealth. It is quite a contradiction, how there is a lot of sorrow for
the loss of a beloved relative of a poor family to a loved one of a wealthy family. Charles uses this
to give members of a richer family a better understanding of the fast growing gap between the poor
and rich. When Twist departs from the undertaker s place heading towards London, he goes up to
the workhouse,to meet his friend Dick, even though he was unwell. This scene has great poignancy
in it because Dick, who is himself dying, blesses

The Assassination of the Mayor of Castro Street Essay
The Assassination of the Mayor of Castro Street and the Consensus of the Judicial System
It was November 27th, 1978. There was a cheerful atmosphere in San Francisco s City Hall that
morning. Supervisor Harvey Milk s good mood was due to Mayor George Moscone s upcoming
announcement to the press. He was going to publicize that he had decided not to reappoint the
ultra conservative voice for the family , Dan White, back to the board of supervisors. Harvey Milk
was a fierce advocate of this political move, for he was the first openly gay elected official, and
thus, the most important political leader for homosexuals at the time. Dan White, on the other hand,

He snuck through a window in City Hall just before the press conference was scheduled to take
place, and swiftly shot and killed both men in their own offices. He confessed to the assassinations
just hours later at the local police station.
Despite the evidence of premeditation, the obvious animosity between the assassin and the victims,
and the immediate confession, Dan White was only convicted of two counts of voluntary
manslaughter. He served five years in prison for his crime. In the context of the assassination of two
government officials, the jury s conviction is almost inconsequential. To fully understand the
implication of the term voluntary manslaughter it is necessary to distinguish the different
classifications of murder as defined by California State law. The definition of murder constitutes
both deliberation and premeditation, while voluntary manslaughter is defined as the killing of
another human spontaneously with the lack of previous planning. After staying up all night, Dan
White called his secretary and asked for a ride to City Hall, having no purpose to be in the
building, due to the fact that he was no longer employed there. He brought with him his gun, and
because he brought ten extra bullets as well he clearly had the intention of firing it. He had
contemplated how to avoid the metal detectors at the main entrance and

Persuasive Essay On Adoption
No not all couples can have a child to love and raise but there is a great opportunity for them to
have a child to love and care for, and that is call adoption. People adopt children for so many
reason. It provides a possibility for an unwanted child to have a home and be loved and had a happy
life. There are so many people adopted and that has changed their life. Don t you wonder where
Steve Jobs, Jamie Foxx, and Babe Ruth would be if they weren t adopted? And I do wonder where
I would be if I wasn t adopted.
One reason why people choose to adopt is because they are unable to conceive kids, or because
they have had miscarriages and don t want to risk losing their child again. Some might adopt
stepchildren or children of family members who aren t financially stable to support their child.
The adoption process can be very long. There is a 10 step process from the NAC (National
Adoption Center) website that states that step number one is to learn about adoption. The next
step is to choose an adoption agency. Step number three is having a home study completed.
Number four is trying to find a child, and then give your info to the child s agency. After you get
info about the child you chose then you can go meet the child. Step number eight is to get a date
where you can actually receive the child. Next you can finalize everything with the adoption. The
final step is to live a happy life.
There are 2 different types of adoption. One is international, and the next is

The Mass Media s Representation Of Campaign Discourse
It is the chaotic month of November, and the fate of America lies in one candidate s hands. With the
election coming to its scandalous end, the country has been a tremendous user of television,
internet, newspaper, and radio. Presidential nominee, Donald Trump has not hesitated in releasing
numerous shocking statements, and the reporters have not resisted their urge of publishing his
words. Nevertheless, it is evident that, By decreasing the effort necessary for journalists to gather
information, politicians can garner substantially more media attention for themselves (Niven). But,
as one inspects the features of all mass mediaclosely, a pattern of specific contents and people
constantly being under the radar can be noticed. The boundless attention from viewers, reporters
and advertisers bring fame, and support to candidates, whether it being for negative or positive
purposes. While covering every aspect of candidates, The mass media s representation of campaign
discourse influences whether voters have the opportunity to scrutinize the candidates issue
priorities and policy proposals (Hayes). High ratings, biased opinions, exaggerated news, and
politically incorrect expressions are usually the type of contents drawing the society to itself.
Similarly, due to his erratic and unexpected behavior, Trump has gained vast news coverage, risen
to fame through social media, and gotten both honored and dishonored simultaneously throughout
his candidacy.

Delirium Signs
Delirium Signs and Symptoms
Delirium is a neurocognitive disorder that is characterized by a disturbance in attention, awareness
and change in cognition that rapidly develops over a short period of time (Townsend, 2014). It is
manifested by confusion, disorientation, hallucinations, illusions, clouding of consciousness and
excitement. In fact, Townsend also states that some of the individual s awareness can range from
hypervigilance to stupor or semi coma. As a result, sleep may alternate between excessive
sleepiness and insomnia (2014). It may also be precipitated by several hours or days of prodromal
symptoms such as restlessness, difficulty thinking, insomnia or nightmares. This disorder may

However, understanding the root cause of delirium is very important in treating the patients. Being
able to identify early signs and symptoms of delirium is also vital in preventing increased
complications, morbidity and mortality. The orientation therapy is an effective therapy that
healthcare workers can integrate easily into their part of normal care activities. However, there are
some drawbacks such as clients may form mistrust against family or healthcare workers. Next, using
recreational activities as a vehicle for supporting attentional capacity, and delivering cognitive
stimulation, seems to be effective on patients with preexisting medical condition particularly
dementia or Alzheimer s patient. It is effective because it can help reduce the worsening and
shorten the duration of delirium symptoms. It is also an inexpensive way to stimulate a patient s
cognitive processing. Overall, I believe understanding the difference of therapies available for
delirium is important in treating the patient s specific situations. I also believe that understanding
the root cause of the delirium symptoms exhibited by a client will help treat the patients accurately
and improve their symptoms

Discuss The Argyle Communication Cycle Theory
The Argyle s Communication Cycle Theory:
The Argyle s communication cycle theory is process commonly used in the health and social care
sector to explain how communication can be effective, this is a theory in which can enable a
person to understand what is being said or wrote, and to be able to respond to the conversation
appropriately. This theory has six stages and these include;
Stage one of the Argyle is when the idea is thought of by the communicator, and include them to
adapt their words and expressions to match the audience the conversation is for; e.g. the elderly;
we may have to talk louder as some elderly people (Or some young people/adults with hearing
problems.)cannot hear the same as when they were younger, children; may need more expressions
and fewer words, the body language used should be calm and inviting and voices should be calm
and gentle rather than tense, or even a work colleague; will need to have clear communication
together in order to be able to do your job effectively and to complete your daily duties within the
job. . The sending of the message is known as encoding , at this stage the communicator is
planning what needs to be said, this stage is very effective as it can help conversations to be
delivered in an effective way, for example; if a doctorneeds to tell his patient that they have cancer,
he should plan his words or expressions very carefully so not to hurt the patient or make them feel
worse than they are.
The second stage is when the

  • 2. Isabella as an Independent Female in Shakespeare s Measure... It seems rare in a Shakespearean play to find a female character to whom women in this new millennium can relate. Modern women are expected to be strong, independent, educated and intelligent, and in control of their own destinies. Women are also considered to be on equal footing with their male counterparts in regards to abilities, privileges, and rights. Although these ideals may not be completely realistic in the real world, in general, these are the ways in which a twenty first century womanis perceived. In the time period Shakespeare was writing in the abilities and roles expected of women were very different. For women in Shakespeare s Measure for Measure, there are extremely limited roles women can fulfill and all of them centre... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a nun Isabella would have little contact with men and would not be answerable to anyone other than her female order. Isabella is unavailable to any men, even Angelo. She does not conform to one of the roles society deems appropriate for a female. She is a virgin but has no intention of marrying. She believes passionately in her faith and would not sacrifice her body for any sinful reason, meaning that she would never become a prostitute. As a virgin destined to remain so the rest of her life, Isabella falls outside of Angelo s understanding. Even before she takes the vows Isabella does not seem to have any strong male roles directing her life. Claudio is her only relation and she spends the duration of the play trying to rescue him rather than the other way around. Rather than rendering her vulnerable this lack of male dominance seems to suit Isabella quite well. She is intelligent and outspoken in her defence of her brother, boldly contradicting Angelo on several occasions. Angelo claims there is no remedy (2.2.49) to Claudio s sentence but Isabella does not accept this saying, Yes, I do think that you might pardon him (2.2.50). Just ten lines later she does this again, boldly questioning what he has told her instead of accepting Angelo s decree. Isabella even dares, in this same speech, to instruct Angelo in her beliefs about mercy as most becoming of a person in authority: Not the king s crown, nor the deputed sword, / The marshal s truncheon, nor the ... An Analysis Of Ehrenreich s Bait And Switch According to The New York Times, the average person born in the later years of the baby boom held around 10.5 jobs between the age of 18 and 40, which is much more than what the previous generations held. The job one obtains after graduation would probably not be the last job of his/her lifetime, that is in today s corporate race, a job becomes more of a pit stop one to stay in until either the employer or employee feels dissatisfied rather than a final destination. Given this condition, a person must constantly show their worth and perform better than others to stay employed, but it seems that the situation is not that simple; many stumble over transitions between jobs, falling off tracks just the slightest and finding themselves unable to... According to journalists Katty Kay and Claire Shipman in The Atlantic article The Confidence Gap , confidence is a belief in one s ability to succeed, a belief that stimulates action (Kay and Shipman 151). As important it is to be knowledgeable with a warehouse full of experiences, if one only keeps the knowledge to him/herself, this knowledge will not have the chance to be applied, or let alone appreciated. This would clearly be more difficult for introverts and women than for extroverts and men, but we must overcome this barrier to have a successful career. Due to both nature and nurture, women tend to internalize their failures and mistakes, falsely blaming themselves for being incompetent, resorting to being even more careful and shy in taking actions, which stops them from taking risks that might be the key to stand out and succeed. To overcome the lack of confidence, we need to swallow our doubts, stop thinking so much and just act (Kay and Shipman 153). Confidence is the language needed to deliver our skills, and at the end of the day, confidence can also be self perpetuating, and having confidence could help us better recover from failures and be a better person as a ... • 5. Theme Of Bliss By Katherine Mansfield Bliss is a short story written by Katherine Mansfield in 1918.The story focuses on a day of Bertha Young who is a lovely, restless and kind of hysterical woman. She is married Harry and they have a little baby called as Little B and on that day, they invite their friends, the Norman Knights, Eddie Warren and Pearl Fulton for a dinner. During all this conventional scene, we, as readers, witness the journey of Bertha from ignorance to awareness about her loveand sexual desire for another woman, Miss Fulton. Mansfield reveals Bertha s sexual orientation through the technique of symbolism by using many lively and colorful images such as a pear tree, moon and a walled garden. In the late 19th the early 20th century, homosexuality was common among people in England although it was seen as a criminal act and there were many penances... She likens herself to that colorful and blossomy tree. And she seemed to see on her eyelids the lovely pear tree with its wide open blossoms as a symbol of her own life (6). That s why, at the end, when she learns the affair between Harry and Pearl, she runs over to window to see the pear tree, to see that it is still there intact. Oh, what is going to happen now? She cried. But the pear tree was as lovely as ever and as full of flower an as still (16) Also, the pear tree serves Mansfield s view that one can be both female and male at the same in a relationship. In many literary works, especially the ones that belong to Medieval period, pear tree is used as a symbol of phallus of male. Thus, Mansfield ascribes masculinity to Bertha in her relationship with Miss Fulton by likening her to the pear tree. Like a pear tree, moon is also used as a symbol of gender ... Applying A Rolling Admissions Process As mentioned earlier, when our prospect applies to the four selected colleges from Figure 6.4, they will utilize the LSAC as mandated from each institution. That provides for straightforward management of those applications with submission dates synchronizing with the University of Florida the earliest one. That way, all institutions can be concurrently applied rather than piecemeal this process. Anyway, it turns out that some of the law schools in question employ a rolling admissions process where the institution can potentially notify applicants anytime inside a window of an admissions decision. Figure 6.5 below provides a list of many or most requirements and optional items that might accompany our prospect s applications, including the transcript release forms for the Registrar and evaluation forms for individuals writing assessments discussed above. • 7. A Brief Biography of Ivan the Terrible Ivan IV Vasilyevich (1530 1584), was the first of two children of Basil III and Elena Glinskaya. Ivan came into the world on August 25, 1530. Nearly a year after this Ivan s father died when he was only three. Basil had died due to a small, little pimple on his thigh that had developed into a deadly sore. Basil requested at his deathbed that his son Ivan would become the ruler of Russia when he became a man at age 15. Once Basil died the boyars took over Russia, denying Ivan s right to the throne. Ivan s mother then with other trusted boyars took over the ruling party. Elena was able to successfully rule Russia for four years, until she died suddenly in 1538, apparently from poisoning, leaving eight year old Ivan an orphan. They had ended and that Ivan had complete power. On Sunday, January 16, 1547, Ivan was crowned czar in Moscow s lavish Cathedral of the Assumption. Ivan soon married Anastasia Romanovna Zakharyina Yurueva. Anastasia bore him six children of whom only two survived infancy. At times Ivan was very devote; he used to throw himself before the icons, banging his head against the floor. It resulted in a callosity at his forehead. Once Ivan even did a public confession of his sins in Moscow. • 8. Power Of Depression By Joyce Hocker And William Wilmot Power of Depression In most situations the term power is looked at between one person or group and another. The same perspective from the textbook Interpersonal Conflict written by Joyce Hocker and William Wilmot can be applied when looking at the lack of internal power when going through a phase of depression. The type of power, level of power, solutions, as well as the RICE perspective can all be associated with myself and my depressed state I went through for a few months. Distributive power is a power of domination which forces or manipulates a person into a low power role or situation. Within a distributive form of power, power itself becomes the main focus of thinking and discussion by the person of low power. In regard to my personal experience with depression, the incident is just that definition. In the instance of depression it forced and manipulated myself to have a lack of power towards my feelings and motivations. The constant battle is trying to figure out how to escape the hurt, and helplessness you feel internally. Escaping and gaining power within becomes the main desire as soon as you recognize that you can no longer handle the pain. Thus, you are in a battle of distributive power fighting between you and the depression building inside of you. Derek realized that hatred towards people did not help him, his family, or the situation at hand. Instead of being negative and destructive, why not be positive. Hurting people and destroying property does not solve problems, but only makes them worse by causing more resentment and tension between people (Theriou). Nothing good has ever come out of a situation where one person has been the victim of a crime or abuse. Good things come out of situations where people show hospitality, good will, and compassion; not hatred. It is made very clear that Derek and Danny have no affiliations with the Ku Klux Klan. Derek calls the KKK a bunch of disorganized rednecks that very inanely run around with sheets on their heads. Instead they are part of a Neo Nazi group in Southern California. • 11. Student Loan Debt And Consumer Choice Student Loan Debt and Consumer Choice In today s society, student loans are haunting the lives of millions of postgraduates all over the United States. Students who have carelessly taken out loans and those in serious need of financial aid for their college education are now burdened with thousands of dollars worth of debt. As the student debt average continues to increase in our nation, the budgets of postgraduates begin to dwindle and the amount of defaults grow dramatically. With the large student debts our young adults are now dealt with, recent graduates are forced to compromise certain aspects of their quality and standard of living after graduation. Our nation s recent graduate s budgets are being directly affected by the student loandebt and interest accrued during and after their college careers. Student loans are a form of financial aid given by federal and private organizations designed to help fund the student s tuition, housing, books, and other expenses. Student loans are primarily given to those who are in most need of financial assistance. The interest rates that accompany these loans are relatively lower than those of credit cards, housing and auto loans, because these loans were meant to be quickly and easily paid off. With federal interest rates fixed at as low as five percent and private loan interest rates decreasing, it comes to question: why is the amount of student loan debt in our nation increasing so rapidly? A lot of Gehrig s fans believed that this unfortunate diagnosis would cause some sort of depression, anger within himself, or withdrawal from the American people. This was not the case, however. Gehrig s first line of his speech, Fans, for the past two weeks you have been reading about the bad break I got. Yet today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of this Earth. Ambiguity leads to vagueness and confusion which creates alternative reactions and understanding of the same work. Catullus uses ambiguity to create a sensation that one situation is taking place even when reading the verse form in context or merely studying the poem in its entirety the work takes on a whole new significance. The poem opens with depictions of beauty imaginary of the Argo s first voyage alluding that poem may be about the myth of Jason and Medea. Paradoxically, however, what Ariadne sees also alludes to, and so makes us see, a different picture: a Theseus who could have been made forgetful to serve the purposes of Bacch. In poem 85 as discussed above, Catullus also makes use of paradoxes stating I love and I hate. In 68a Catullus states that he being overcome by grief due to his brother s death is unable to write. Then in 68b although he is still experiencing the same pain to which he refers in 68a and in which Catullus repeats almost exactly what he said in 68a, Catullus states that he cannot stop himself from writing. Under coalition loyalty programs, members can earn and redeem points by shopping at participating merchants (e.g., Exxon, Macys, Rite Aid and ATT.) The program helps consumers to earn rewards faster and lead to a higher level of engagement with a program which provides merchants an opportunity to attract new customers and run cross promotional campaigns. However, the biggest challenge in launching the program was signing up merchants and building an economic case for shifting away from proprietary to collaborative program. AXP was in negotiations with Rite Aid to join the program. Under their old loyalty program (Wellness+), Rite Aid issued reward dollars (+UPs).The dollars could be used for purchase within their stores over next two weeks, while in Plenti program the points (1 point = 1 cents) are valid for three years and can be redeemed at any participating merchant. Rite Aid was concerned that if they joined Plenti, customers will continue to earn points at Rite Aid but with more redemption options and longer validity, the redemptions will be skewed towards other merchants especially the Grocer Partner. A Bar Mitzvah or a Bat Mitzvah is when a boy or girl reaches the age of thirteen and they are now obligated to observe the commandments and are welcomed into adulthood. These are both celebrated through the gathering or family and friends in the form of a party. This celebration is one of the rituals of the Jewish religion. Mitzvot (plural of Mitzvah) are understood to come from God and intended for Jewish people to observe and partake in. Some Jewish people that live on the Western side of the world believe there is some contradiction with the thought of being commanded to act in something because it takes away from their right to choose how to behave. In the Torah, it says that when God gave the commandments he declared, Behold, I have set before you the blessing [of observing the commandments] and the curse [the potential punishment of failing to observe the Mitzvot] therefore, choose life! . The Jewish people interpreted this as God acknowledging that Jews have a choice and he wants them to choose the right one. All Jewish people have different beliefs behind the importance of a Mitzvah. One form of evidence is known as the fossil record; this is the documentation of one species that has transitioned into another form. A prime example of the fossil record is the evolution of birds. These flying creatures are often considered direct descendants of dinosaurs; Thomas Henry Huxley constructed this notion in the 1860s. Evidence of this theory came about in 1861 when the first, complete skeleton was discovered; the skeleton was of the Archaeopteryx lithographica. There was no mistaking that Archaeopteryx lithographica was a dinosaur because of features it adorned, including a bony tail, teeth, and claws on the wings. The troubling detail of this ancient creature was a new feature that had been discovered: feathers. This ignited the on going search for dinosaurian skeletons, providing clear evidence in support of Darwin s theory. In addition, direct observation has provided an enormous amount of evidence to prove a major component of Darwin s theory of evolution: natural selection. The first piece of evidence is the infamous peppered moths. The peppered moths are also known as Biston betularia; they are commonly found in Britain. The moths often fly during the night but they rest on trees during the day; this is a clever way to camouflage themselves from predators. Happiness indicates an approachable person while anger signifies someone to stay away from. These two decisions are the most basic and simplest behavioral decisions. But sometimes, this decision does go wrong, since humans are after all humans. And along with the mistake, some circumstances are riskier than others. Such as going up to a vicious person might be an inherently costly mistake than avoiding a person who is actually safe to approach ( Haselton Buss, 2000). A highly adapted system of perception might be more attuned to locating cues that would signify danger, such as the facial intensity in locating hints of anger, in individuals who seem to possess the capability in dealing out more harm as distinguished by their built, carrying armaments and other details. Some might not even present any immediate risk, but overlooking an identifying cue that could indicate the stranger being harmful is a costly mistake due to bodily harm being a possibility than when seeing such cues where there are none. Approach, on the other hand, is a tricky matter. And as such, people afford opportunities that are positive. The most common or popular type of catadioptric telescope is the Schmidt Cassegrain telescope. Schmidt Cassegrain telescopes (SCT) are a catadioptric design, meaning they use both lenses and mirrors. SCTs are primarily reflecting telescopes, but they use a corrector lens to eliminate aberrations that would result from the mirror design alone. In an SCT the incoming light passes through the Schmidt corrector lens (also called a corrector plate) at the front of telescope. It is reflected from a concave primary mirror at the back of the scope which focuses the light to the front of the telescope where it is reflected again by a smaller, convex secondary mirror. Finally, the light travels back through a hole in the primary mirror to the rear of the scope where an eyepiece is located for visual observing. (Starizona.com, 2015) Below is a ray diagram of a Schmidt Cassegrain telescope: (A levelphysicstutor.com, 2015) At first it seems that an SCT should have a focal length twice as long as the length of the tube, since the light travels twice the length of the tube. However, SCTs actually have focal lengths about 5 times longer than the tube length. This is due to the convex curvature of the secondary mirror. This effectively magnifies the focal length, making the scope act much longer than it is. The diagram below shows how a Cassegrain type telescope (such as an SCT) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Its definition cannot be simplified into one dimension, and its interpretation is completely contextual. The reason that the definition from the Oxford English Dictionarywas given prior, was due to its broadness; making it a more well suited definition to describe the concept of freedom. Whether a person is making a choice between what to eat for lunch or when to go to bed, they are being influence by incentives. For example, images of an appealing lunch meal in a TV commercial may make someone choose Subway over Mcdonalds. However, the same thought process can motivate someone to prefer a meal at McDonalds because of the company s constant promotion of their dollar menu (Mcdonalds, 2013). Either of these incentives can appeal to a person, depending on what they are motivated by, in this case, either health or money. The Bible is full of different forms of incentives. Some people can skim the Bible and note its major incentive; the opportunity for eternal life. However a deeper knowledge of what God says shows many more incentives. Other incentives are exemplified in the Bible: believers have faith which gives them peace (Romans 5:1), faith leads to loving the Creator and experiencing His love (Psalms 85:10), and the knowledge of right and wrong gives an opportunity for forgiveness (Acts 2:38). All of these reasons for believing the Bible, along with many more, can motivate a person to choose that specific approach to life. In its essence, an incentive is a deliberate proposal calculated to make a person choose a certain action. Thus, the reason why incentives are so popular in society is because everything and ... • 40. Unit 3 Film Analysis The best use of 3D in films comes when a filmmaker is trying to absorb the audience into a different world. Scorsese s *Hugo* leads the audience into Scorsese s magical and whimsical Paris with a gorgeous train staton. *Coraline* draws the audience into Coraline s disturbing alternative life. *Avatar* literally creates a separate world and realizes it with 3D. Marvel s *Doctor Strange*, while not equal in overall cinematic quality to these films, uses 3D incredibly well to align the audience with Doctor Strange and experience the kaleidoscopic other dimensional worlds of the film. Just like how *Avatar* and *Hugo* start with shots that show off their 3D, this scene essentially screams its use of 3D. Buildings rotate and bend in front of the audience. Shatter patterns and cracks in space appear in front of the screen. Streaks of magical power and broken bits of building fly out. The camera tilts, rotates, and pans, flipping the entire world (and the audience) on its side. The audience can t help but be aware of (and, the filmmaker hopes, awed by) the spectacle they are witnessing. The Pathology of Whitenes in Pym, by Mat Johnson Mat Johnsons novel, Pym challenges readers not only to view his work with a new set of eyes but also the work of all American literature with the understanding that the idea of Whiteness still has a very strong power over literature today. It is unfortunate that in today s society, the pathology of Whiteness still holds a very strong presence in literary world. Literature from American authors versus literature from African Americanauthors still continues to be segregated and handled with two different sets of criteria. It is easy to say that you have a diversity committee but if it is not actively trying to fight against segregation and focusing on all Americans being viewed as one instead of as different subsets, the committee becomes useless. Instead of the diversity committee representing change, it is aiding in pathology of Whiteness. Johnson takes Morrison s argument past simply identifying that Whiteness is still very much dominate in literature today and focuses on ways that we are still helping it to exist. The Issues Of The Midwifery And Obstetrics In recent years, midwifery and obstetrics have become two of the most prominent and primary ways of care for women of childbearing age in comparison to unassisted births and other documented methods. Although midwifery is not as prevalent as obstetrics, there is a rise in midwifery today. In the United States women and their partners are faced with the choice of who should provide care before, during and after pregnancy. As of today there has been a rise in how many births are attended by nurse midwives than it was a quarter of a century ago but the number of births attended by an obstetrician gynecologist (OBGYN) is still significantly higher. Faced with either option, OBGYN or nurse midwife, women of childbearing age are not adequately informed or are misinformed on their choices when it comes to each specialty. This paper explores the issue of women being thoroughly informed on their birth options and on which provider is necessary. This paper also compares the two professions, midwifery and obstetricsin the realm of pregnancy, pregnancy care and childbirth. For example, in Vivaldi s second concerto summer he depicts a peaceful, calm mood at the beginning of the first movement. The atmosphere is extraordinarily vivid, depicting the oppressive heat from the Mediterranean sun. The plaintive signs of the violin, separated by silences which suggest the intake of breath is a tiring exertion, it gives no hint to the explosive energy that lies ahead. (See example two).
