The Film Industry, Hollywood And The Movie Industry
Movie Industry/Hollywood
Hollywoodland, known as the most recognizable film industry in the world from the 1920 s to now,
slowly went from black and white silent movies to colorful motion pictures in the screens. This lead to
a major production of movies along the road and introduction to big world famous stars that helped
with the expansion of the entertainment business. Hollywood became an overnight success during the
1920 s by making improvements in the film and motion picture industry.
Some symbols of fame were developed as Hollywood kept growing along the way in the 1920 s such
as the Hollywood sign and the Walk of Fame. The Hollywood sign had a big meaning behind it. It

decided to commit suicide due to personal issues and got a memorial stone done after, that declared
her the First Movie Star . According to Christopher Klein, author of Florence Lawrence: The First
Movie Star, an article published on A+E Networks HISTORY STORIES, the actress did more than
just acting. She was known for inventing signaling devices for cars in 1914. One of these devices
worked as cars turning signals, moving a flag up or down depending on the direction of the turn. The
other known device was a stop sign that would pop up whenever the brake pedal was pushed. Even
though the actress was a clever inventor, she never applied for a patent for her creations, and therefore,
she never received remuneration. Although she did not get a star with her name on the Walk of Fame,
she s remembered as the First Movie Star and as an inventor

The Technique of Grafting in Agriculture
I. INTRODUCTION
The technique of grafting dates back to the beginning of agriculture. Although it can be labor
intensive, grafting has continued to be used in fruit and nut trees because of the immense benefits.
Different plants produce different qualities of fruits and nuts, and not always consistently. And,
because tree fruits are nearly impossible to reproduce from cuttings, grafting has become the most
popular technique for fruit tree propagation. Grafting helps to produce a superior and highly valued
crop (Hartmann, Kester, Davies, Geneve, 2011). New markets continue to require grafted and budded
plants for improved plant quality, fruit yield, superior forms, and better adaptation to greater
ecological ranges (Hartmann et al. 2011).
This paper will take a closer look at the technique of grafting, where it originated from, its
developments over time, and the impact it has had on agriculture.
II. DEFINITION Grafting can be described as the natural or deliberate fusion of plant parts so that
vascular continuity is established between them and the resulting genetically composite organism
functions as a single plant (Mudge, Janick, Scofield, Goldschmidt, 2009). In other words, it involves
taking part of one tree and attaching it to part of another tree. For example, a section of a stem with
leaf buds might be inserted into the stock of a tree. Many times one plant is selected for its roots,
called the stock or rootstock, and the other plant is selected for

Why Attend Law School
To illustrate why I want attend law school and become a lawyer, I must first say that I do not
remember ever in my life not wanting to be a lawyer. Growing up in a poor neighborhood of a third
world country, to poor parents, going to college seemed at times like an unreachable dream.
Personally, I consider myself blessed that I was born to an uneducated, yet a smart father, who,
thankfully, understood the importance of obtaining an education, even if that meant sacrificing other
of the few commodities we could afford as a family. While I can say I had the full support of my
family, close friends and even neighbors who bet on me to graduate from law school and become a
law professional who will fight their legal battles, I have to say that I also had detractors, who thought
I should had study to be a doctor, or an engineer. Of all those who opposed my attending law school,

help before I left, found themselves unable to help, also, turned out that after three years living apart

barriers would not allow me to even get thru the doors of a law school, let alone attend one. Faced
with the dilemma of not being able to attend school, not having anything to go back to and the
responsibility of providing for my family, I decided to do the next best thing I could think of, and
joined the US Army. The US Army sent me to an intensive two and a half month of language training

ABSTRACT
Information technology (IT) has become an indispensable part of contemporary world while human
resource management globally is equally being affected in a number of ways through its adoption and
application.
Developments in information and communication technology create the spread of education and
economic opportunities. E learning is one of them. For companies in the banking sector, web based
training is a new opportunity to create a harmonious labor force with new technology and to increase
the efficiency of business productivity. E learning with practice of these new technologies, offers bank
employees individual learning, regardless of time and space. Nowadays, because e learning provides
opportunities for learning without interfering with the flow of work for the staff working at the
appropriate time and space, an economic advantage is provided to both the bank as company and its
employees. Therefore, spending on education decreases. However, the level of benefit that bank staff
gains from educational opportunities changes on the basis of certain demographic characteristics. This
situation is an important variable with regard to the effect

New Mexico Essay
New Mexico is a southwestern state and was admitted to the union on January 6, 1912. It is the 47th
state and considered to be a mountain state. Its culture has been heavily influenced by the aboriginal
people as well as colonists. It was home first to the Native Americans, which included the Apache,
Navajo, and Pueblo people. It was taken over after the colonization of the Spanish in 1598. Thereafter,
it became a part of Mexico and later a US territory. Following the Mexican American War, it was
made a state of North America. New Mexico has the highest number of Hispanics and 2nd highest
number of Native Americans in its population. The cultural influences of these groups of people can
be seen throughout the state, including on the state flag; the colors gold and scarlet, represent the royal
standards of Spain. The sun symbol comes from the Pueblo tribes, ... Show more content on

products produced by the state. Scientifically controlled farming on drylands and cattle ranching are
important in the success of this state s economy. The leading crops include pecans and hay. Mineral
wealth also contributes to its growing economy. New Mexico is the leading producer of copper ore,
uranium ore, natural gas, and salt. Due to the number of government facilities, the federal government
is the leading employer in this state. There has been an increase in population and climate in recent

An Overview of the Argentine Financial Crisis Essay
The financial crisis in Argentina during the late 1990s and early 2000s resulted in severe issues with
foreign debt, inflation, unemployment, and political turmoil for the country. Argentina not only
suffered a currency crisis, but also suffered a political crisis. Fallout from the economic collapse was
so severe the Argentinean population resorted to civil unrest and protest, which in turn exacerbated
Argentina s problems at the turn of the century. While other issues related to this financial crisis such
as the impact on the lives of the Argentinean population or the political turmoil and corruption are
certainly worthy of discussion, this paper will focus on the currency crisis and the Argentinean
government s role in this economic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In an effort to move Argentina from an internationally isolated and state dominated economy to one
that encouraged international trade and foreign investments, Carlos Menem, in the early 1990s,
initiated a wave of privatization, which included state owned industries such as utilities (Feldstein,
2002). Following the examples of Chile and the emerging economies of Southeast Asian nations,
Menem hoped this liberalization would foster growth in productivity and economic growth.
On April 1, 1991, Argentina s Congress, with Domingo Cavallo as Minister of Economy, enacted the
Convertibility Law (or Ley de Convertibilidad) legally adopting the currency board (Hornbeck, 2002).
This legislation essentially pegged the Argentinean peso to the U.S. dollar. The government
guaranteed the convertibility of the peso to U.S. dollar at a one to one exchange rate, limiting the
printing of pesos to only those necessary to purchase dollars in the foreign exchange market. Thus, the
central bank was required by law to hold foreign reserves to cover its peso liabilities (Hanke and
Schuler, 2002). With this fixed exchange rate, the Argentinean government was hoping to preserve the
value of their currency and stabilize inflation. The peg was initially successful, as it cured
hyperinflation that occurred at the end of the 1980s and provided price stability needed for economic
growth in the early 1990s. However, by the late 1990s,

The World War 2 Rotary Wing Aviation
At the close of World War 2 rotary wing aviation began its transition into a so called renaissance
period. New and exciting advancements were being made to give new aircraft greater stability and
range. After many demonstrations on exactly what an aircraft could do, the United States Army
decided to adopt rotary wing aircraft to fill a search and rescue (SAR) role initially. During the Korean
War, medical evacuations and search and rescue missions took up the majority of missions for our
pilots. However, we were very limited in what we could achieve. The technology was primitive in
using piston driven engines along with heavier parts than necessary. Seeing how useful slow moving
aircraft were to our forces, Army Aviation leaders began ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the title suggested, the program goal was to stock a dedicated light class, rotary wing system with a
multipurpose battlefield role. The helicopter would be called upon to undertake various missions
including that of SAR, MEDEVAC, observation, transport, reconnaissance, escort, Close Air Support
(CAS) and direct attack. (p.1)
During the Korean War, our internal rotary winged aviation assets were performing duties in a very
limited role. Although used extensively and often, the majority of missions that took place were either
lift oriented, medical evacuation and in some cases reconnaissance. The helicopter most suited for this
role at the time was the Bell H 13 Sioux. The H 13 saw its first flight on 8 December 1945, and
marked the first large scale procurement of a helicopter by the United States Army, being utilized from
1948 onwards. While great for its time, the H 13 was very limited in what it could achieve. It was
originally fitted with a piston driven engine. Eventually it would be upgraded to a turbine engine;
however the frame was still heavy and even the upgraded turbine engine didn t make up for the lack of
lift being generated by its measly two bladed rotor system. To say it bluntly, it was overweight and
underpowered, and we wanted something better.

The Memory Of Memory And Memory
A fact that cannot be denied is that human beings rely on their memory a lot, not only to remember
special events or memorise facts that have been learned but also to recall processes and routines
executed on a daily basis. Memory can be defined as a system that processes information in the mind,
which consists of three stages; namely encoding, storage, and retrieval (Farlex Partner Medical
Dictionary, 2012). Encoding refers to the receiving and modification of an informational stimulus so
that it can be embedded in the memory. Storage is the next memory stage, in which information is
retained and kept available until it is needed again. Information is more likely to be stored in the long
term if it is continuously used and rehearsed. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The oldest recorded example of a mnemonic device is the method of loci, which was created back in
the Ancient Greek era (Robson, 2011). This method involves visual imagery by relating new
information to specific locations in a familiar place to a person. When this association is established, a
person can recall the new information relative to the landmarks of the familiar location. Besides that,
chunking is also another type of mnemonic device, in which a large piece of information is broken
down into smaller chunks. A theory by Jacobs (1890), as cited in Holt Lewis (2008), stated that the
capacity of the short term memory is about 5 to 9 chunks. Therefore, chunking lengthy information
into smaller sections can help the human brain to encode more information at a higher rate, so that
they can be stored easily. Other mnemonic devices include acronyms, keyword method, and narrative
chaining.
Mnemonic devices have been proven to work very well for memory enhancement. The information
learned via mnemonic devices tends to be remembered better for a longer period as compared to other
memorisation techniques such as rote learning. Rote learning refers to a method of memorisation
based on repetition without fully understanding or focusing on what is being committed to memory
(Stevens Bernier, 2013). While most people believe that repetition is the best way to remember
information, the context of the

The Importance Of Essential For Healthy Family Functioning...
According to Professor Rick Peterson, there are five essential roles essential to healthy family
functioning, they include providing resources, support and nurturing, development of life skills
(especially for young children), maintenance and management of the family system, and sexual
gratification between spouses. (Peterson and Green) In this section we re going to look at how these
are incorporated into the family s instrumental functioning and their expressive functioning.
Instrumental Functioning As stated earlier in the paper, this family is very set in old traditions. EM
stays home with the kids all day while RM goes to work. While at home EM cooks for the kids, cleans
the house, takes care of the dog, and makes sure the household runs smoothly. They have decided to
homeschool their children when they get a little older, so she is also preparing information and
supplies for that.
Since the kids don t go to daycare, EM has to make sure that they have some interaction throughout
the day, so she brings them on walks to the park. Their daily routine is waking up and having EM cook
everyone breakfast. She packs a lunch for RM and he grabs it before heading out the door. Once the
kids are done eating, EM starts cleaning the house and EJM and HM are sent outside to play. Then
comes lunch time, which according to EM is the craziest part of the day! The kids are tired and crabby
and there is still so much to do. After the kids are done eating they lay down for

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
In the book Thirteen Reasons Why , Jay Asher shows that the actions that you make can affect others.
Clay Jensen comes home from school to find a box that is lying on his porch that contains seven
cassette tapes. After Clay finds out that the tapes are from Hannah Baker, a girl that committed suicide
a few days before, he goes to Tony s to find another way to listen to them because Hannah said if you
got the set then you are one of the reasons why. As Clay listens to the tapes waiting to get to the one
that is about him, he heard stories about other kids that did something to Hannah. The kids ranged
from being friends that turned on her to a peeping tom. One of her friends put her on a list best ass in
the freshman class and that started a land slide with everyone thing she was a slut. When Clay s tape
comes up, it is just a love story that explains the history between Hannah and Clay. At a party Clay
and Hannah made out and made it to the bedroom before Hannah broke down crying and forced Clay
to leave. Hannah was sitting next to the bed when a boy dropped off his drunken girl on the bed then
left. Right after that a kid named Bryce came in and raped the sleeping girl. Then after her world kept
coming apart see was walking by the after effects of a party and Bryce convinced her to come into the
hot tub with him. As an act of letting go of herself, she had sex with Bryce in the hot tub. Later in a

How Did The Roman Games Affect The Ancient Olympic Games
The Ancient Olympic Games has made an impact both on the past and present time. The event became
well known to the public ever since its first event around 776 BC. The Greek games determined and
selected certain civilians who had exceptional endurance and athleticism within the games. The event
was an opportunity for the Greek civilization to enhance their athleticism and sportsmanship without
any risk of death or injury. Events like running, jumping, discus throw and many others gave glory
and wreath like crowns to those worthy contestants who proved to have outstanding physical training.
The purpose of the Ancient Olympics was secular in order to honor the Greek god Zeus. However in
Rome, the Romans also followed with their own event to honor the Roman chief god, Jupiter Optimus
Maximus. The Roman Games, called ludi, was quite different from the Greek Olympic system. Ludi
had three programs of spectacles for Roman civilians: ludi circenses, venationes, and ludi scaenici.
Ludi circenses were games being played within a circus, most primarily chariot racing and gladiator
fights (munera) were the main events under the circus program. Venationes were games with an
additional appearance from animals. Animals played part in the Roman Games to be hunted as a
complement to the gladiator games. Ludi scaenici were not technically actual games compared to
chariot racing and animal hunts, but a leisure activity of watching theater. The purpose of Ludi was to
not only honor Jupiter,

Bilbo s Archetypes In The Hobbit
One little hobbit s life shall change forever with adventure lurking by for tea. Bilbo displays three
archetypes throughout his adventure. One of them is the call to adventure , where s the Tookish side of
him awakens, and Gandalf presents Bilbo with an adventure, though without giving him an
alternative. A second one is the magic item , for instance the magic ring. And ultimately, the
supernatural aid , patently Gandalf for he is a wizard. Bilbo Baggins of Bag End, Under Hill has
invariably led a quiet and boring life. Well, at least he did until thirteen dwarves came rapping at his
door. Bilbo displays the archetype the magic item when he finds the magic ring in the goblin tunnels.
Then off he went from door to door, until his following had grown to twelve none of them any to
nimble, what with the dark, and what with their long imprisonment { Tolkien, The Hobbit 174}. This
displays Bilbo rescuing his comrades from the Elvenking s oubliettes with the backing of the ring.

Yes, you have! Twice now. My pardon. I give it you. In fact I will go so far as to send you on this

Invasive Mycoses Research Paper
Invasive Mycoses
Fungi have emerged over the past several decades as major contributors to human disease.(1, 2) As
populations of immunocompromised and/or hospitalized patients continue to increase, so will the
incidence of invasive fungal infections. A recent study reported that fungemia in the United States
increased by 207% between 1979 and 2000.(3) Moreover, as the populations at risk for fungal
infection continue to expand, so will the spectrum of pathogens capable of infecting those individuals.
Invasive mycoses may be categorized as i) opportunistic or ii) endemic. Endemic infections, which are
generally confined to specific geographic regions, are most often acquired via inhalation of spores.
Infective agents include, but are not limited to, Histoplasma capulsatum, Coccidioides immitis, and
Blastomyces dermatitidis. These infections frequently mimic common pulmonary infections in initial
stages and are therefore often misdiagnosed. Dissemination and advanced disease follow. Dormancy
may also occur, with reactivation of infection years later. This leads to diagnosis in a geographic
regions outside of the high risk area.(4, 5)

Heart Rate Response to Baroreceptor Feedback Lab
Fundamental Question: Does the body respond to its environment?
Testable Question: When the body is in the squat position to normal while the time limit stays the

in 10 seconds?
Hypothesis: If the body moves back to normal position from squatting position while the time limit
and squat angle are all relevant in all three trials, then the heart rate will balance in 10 seconds because
the baroreceptors will start the feedback mechanism and will quickly rebalance the heart rate?

Observational Learning Experience
If I were to have a five year old nephew and I were to have to teach him something I would mostly
likely use a combination of reinforcers and observational learning. Both positive and negative
punishment would be implemented in the teaching process, as well as the observational part so that
they all compliment each other. Most likely I would begin to teach him to play baseball and basketball
since most, including myself, start around that age. Although, I would not be as hard on him as my
brothers were on me when it came to sports.
I would begin to teach him baseball since it is my favorite. Before any actual practice begins I would
explain the simple form of the concept of the game. The object of the game, some terminology, etc.

Again I was always taught in more of a punishment type approach and again it worked for me, but I
believe it depends on the kid that is being taught and how they handle it. The same goes for basketball
as it did baseball, I would teach him the concept and objective of the game. When a kid this age is
being taught it is all really observational, because they look to you for guidance and on how to do
everything properly. They literally try to copy everything you do. When it comes to basketball once he
has the concept down and I have taught him how to do everything correctly, I would take more of
punishment route. For example, if he keeps missing lay ups, I would make him make fifty before he
could move on to anything else. If he has trouble dribbling, then I would make him do dribbling drills
until he has started to improve. The same goes for baseball too. Punishment in a form that improves
his game by making him to the same thing over and over again until he gets better. My punishment in
both sports was that I would always have to run if I messed up repeatedly. That only makes you want
to do better, which makes you better in the long run, but making him repeat what he needs to improve
has more of a direct correlation in helping his weak aspects of the

The Grapes Of Wrath By Ma Joad
Ma Joad: Keeping her family in line since 1939
In a time where women were considered inferior, The Grapes of Wrath uses secondary characters,
specifically Ma Joad, to demonstrate a woman taking charge in a family setting, and the relationships
of such a woman with others. Ma helps amplify the theme of feminism and women s rights in different
scenarios. Her relationships with Pa, her daughter Rose of Sharon, and even herself all convey
different elements of an extraordinary leader and an amazing mother.
Ma and Pa s relationship throughout The Grapes of Wrath defies the idea of a normal couple in the era
of the Dust Bowl. They are represented very much as equals through the conflicts their family has to
face, contrary to other couples, where the husband is in charge. Ma takes the lead in many situations
and Pa respects, and maybe even fears her opinions. Ma commandeers decision making and often
causes conflicts with her strong beliefs. This passage conveys the dynamic of their relationship very
early on in the book: Pa broke in, But s pose there just ain t room? He had twisted his neck to look up
at her, and he was ashamed. Her tone had made him ashamed. [...] She stopped, and Pa turned back,
and his spirit was raw from the whipping. (Steinbeck 132) Not only does Pa look to Ma for advice, but
he also notices that she has a higher authority over the family than he does. It becomes obvious as the
book goes on that he is not well equipped to deal with the situations that

It is the largest cellular provider in India, and also supplies broadband and telephone services as well
as many other telecommunications services to both domestic and corporate customers. * Other
stakeholders in Bharti Airtel include Sony Ericsson, Nokia and Sing Tel, with whom they hold a
strategic alliance. This means that the business has access to knowledge and technology from other
parts of the telecommunications world. * The company has covered the entire Indian nation with its
network. This has underpinned its large and rising customer base.
Weaknesses
* An often cited original weakness is that when the business was started by Sunil Bharti Mittal over 15
years ago, the business has little knowledge and experience of how a cellular telephone system
actually worked. So the start up business had to outsource to industry experts in the field. * Until
recently Airtel did not own its own towers, which was a particular strength of some of its competitors
such as Hutchison Essar. Towers are important if your company wishes to provide wide coverage
nationally. * The fact that the Airtel has not pulled off a deal with South Africa s MTN could signal
the lack of any real emerging market investment opportunity for the business once the Indian market
has become mature.

The Tower Of Babel To Jacob And Esau Reconciled
Brief Paper

March 31, 2015
Brief Paper From The Tower of Babel to Jacob and Esau Reconciled, we learn about honor, betrayal,
and forgiveness from the book of Genesis. From these themes we learn what applies to our everyday
life and how we are able to survive. At the start of Genesis twelve, God honors a promise that he made
to Abraham that he will behold and protect as long as he lived. Go forth from your land and your
birthplace and your father s house to the land I will show you. And I will make you a great nation and
I will bless you and make your name great, and you shall be a blessing. And I will bless those who
bless you, and those who damn you I will curse, and all the clans of the earth through you shall be
blessed. (Genesis 12: pg. 126). God s determination to honor Abraham was to bring his family and
wife back to the birthplace of his father s, where Abraham s name will be blessed and in greatness to
people who come and honor him. God placed Abraham to be a father of all nations to kings that will
come honor Abraham for his wisdom that he bestows upon them, and to give his seed the land of
Canaan and resurrected an altar before him. God states to Abraham, As for you, you shall keep My
commandment, you and your seed after you through their generations. (Genesis 17: ... Show more

Chemical Surveillance Program For Leukemia
Benzene Exposure Leukemia in Factory Workers Examined
Background
As part of an occupational surveillance program for leukemia from excessive benzene exposure 1,832
factory workers were screened using a new diagnostic test. It was determined of those exposed, 214
tested positive, 29 tested negative and 90 non exposure tested positive. With the use of a contingency
table we will evaluate the measures of validity of the screening test used.
In the study of the association between benzene exposure and leukemia causality has been established
using the Bradford Hill criteria for two specific agents: Ionizing radiation and benzene. Evidence has
been established that high daily exposure to benzene in both a time dose relationship and with dose
and response with specific types of such as AML leukemia (Pagano et al., 2006). However, it has been
noted by Pagano et al., that results on the environmental factors contain inconsistent results due to the
design of the study, uncontrolled bias, and the variance in the populations at risk (2006).
Environmental factors such as socioeconomic status, alcohol consumption, and smoking are known
contributors to the development of leukemia (Pagano et al., 2006). It s been observed that
occupational exposure to industrial hazards is significantly more frequent overall in populations from
lower socioeconomic backgrounds (Nisse et al., 2001). A complete background of study participants
would be crucial in evaluating the causative

Computer Simulation And Computer Programming
A long time ago, when I used computer for the first time. I played a computer game called Logo in 3rd
grade, which inclined me towards computer. The first day we tried the program, we had trouble
actually moving the darned triangle on the screen. We were supposed to draw a geometric shape with
the little triangle character, which the teacher called a turtle . Movement was slow and unwieldy. We
took turns to type in step by step commands, such as rotate 90 or pen up . But the question is who was
drawing it, which fascinates me. The teacher answered it is microcomputers to draw beautiful, creative
art. The terms microcomputer, processors etc. made me crazy for computer. Few areas of my
education have stimulated me to think as much as my undergraduate courses in Discrete Structures,
Computer graphics, Neural networks, System Programming, Microprocessor, Compiler construction
and design, Artificial Intelligence, Algorithms design and analysis, Theory of Computation and
Computer Programming. Here are innovations that keep evolving not only technically but also hold
infinite scope for creativity and logic. I feel a similar sense of exhilaration when I see my own code
run successfully. It is this feeling, which till date, drives me to not give up on even the toughest of
problems. And it is this love for programming, combined with my desire to dig deeper into the
working of various applications and technologies, which propels me to apply for a Graduate Program

Cosmopolitanism In Things Fall Apart And Kwame Anthony Achebe
Throughout life, one is faced with choices between individualism and communitarianism. Such
choices are reflected in many works of literature, including Chinua Achebe s novel Things Fall Apart
and Kwame Anthony Appiah s Cosmopolitanism. The current report examines the first reading in the
context of the second. Achebe s story is about the clash between tradition and change in an African
village; Appiah s work advocates a unified perspective from which we are seen to be connected
through basic humanism. The basic assumption of this author is that when one applies Appiah s idea
of obligation to others in Cosmopolitanism to the character of Okonkwo in Achebe s Things Fall Apart
(who is also the book s protagonist), the character changes in terms of how his fate or destiny is
conveyed, as well as other aspects of his development. Although Okonkwo is a character of
complexity, depth, and three dimensionality, one of his chief features is his resistance to change. This
resistance is personal in nature, and Okonkwo then tries to impose this personal resistance on a greater
community, rather than listening to it. By emphasizing the failure of the personal over the communal
in Okonkwo s actions, Achebe draws sharp parallels between people helping each other and people
driving each other towards entropy. According to Appiah, cosmopolitanism can be defined according
to several of its divisions: One is the idea that we have obligations to others, obligations that stretch

Political And Economic Similarities And Differences Of The...
During the sixteenth century, both the Ottoman and Tokugawa Japanese empires had political and
economic similarities and differences. Politically, these empires were alike because both had
centralized bureaucracy but different because they had very distinct ways of keeping order within their
empires. Economically, they were similar because both depended on trade yet different because of
their willingness to trade. After close analysis the Tokugawa Japanese empire was more successful
economically.
Politically the Ottoman empire and Tokugawa Japanese empire were similar because each of them
established a central bureaucracy as the head of their government to help maintain a stable yet
effective way of running their empires. In the Ottoman empire, the supreme authority was the sultan
who controlled political and military operations. While the grand vizier, also known as the chief
minister carried the main burden of the state. As the empire started to expand, the status and prestige
of the sultan increased and a centralized administration system was adopted to help maintain order.
The sultan controlled his bureaucracy through an imperial council that met four days a week. The
grand vizier led the council meetings, for which the sultan sat behind a screen overhearing the
proceedings and then privately indicated his desires to the grand vizier. In summary in the Ottoman
the supreme authority was the sultan while the grand vizier carried out the desires of the sultan and

umbilical cord that it is attached to. Also known as placental blood or umbilical cord blood, cord blood
contains red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets and plasma. It is also rich in blood forming

with bone marrow, cord blood may be used for transplantation. Storing this blood can potentially be

Justice vs. Morality in Measure for Measure and Merchant of Venice
There are many similarities shared between Shakespeare s plays, Measure for Measure , and The
Merchant of Venice . The underlying theme of each work is well defined by the phrase Justice without
the temperance of mercy, is power misused . I will support this claim by drawing upon some of the
characters and situations that are consistent in each story.
In each story a man s life depends on the interpretation, and sanctioning of justice. In the, Merchant of
Venice , Antonio (who I believe represents mercy), had sealed a bond with Shylock offering a pound
of his flesh for the loan of three thousand ducats. Unfortunately he forfeits this bond, (Merchant ...

purse, my person, my extremist means, Lie all unlock d to your occasions. . Cladio too acted out of
love and devotion to the woman he meant for his wife, yet didn t hold the papers for.
In both situations cases are made not necessarily to debunk justice, however instead to allow for
judgment interwoven with mercy. For Antonio s sake Portia (acting as Balthazar), offers Shylock a
plea of humanity, (Merchant IV,i) The quality of mercy is not strain d,... Tis mightiest in the
mightiest... It is enthroned in the heart of kings, It is an attribute to God himself... , yet none of this
causes Shylock to sway from his original position, (Merchant IV,i) My deeds upon my head! I crave

soften the heart of Angelo, (Measure II,ii) ... Go to your bosom, Knock there, and ask your heart what

had another agenda (i.e.. getting Isabella in bed), her plea s ended with the same result as those of
Portia, (Measure II,iv) Nay, but hear me, Your sense pursues not mine... , Then must your brother die .
In both situations there is a strong, and legitimate case for either argument. On the one hand you have

The Influence Of The Roman Catholic Church And Christianity
In the 16th century, Christianity dominated western Europe due to the Roman Empire. The Roman
Catholic Church controlled most of the Christian ideology through the king and especially through the
pope. The power the Roman Catholic Church held was primarily due to the fear that people had at the
time and their belief that everything the Roman Catholic Church was true because they could not read
or apply Christianity to themselves from Scripture. The first great divide with this power, however,
came when Martin Luther wrote the 95 Theses about the selling of indulgences and other issues he
found with the Church. Luther was an educated theologian professor who believed that the average
person should be able to have access to Scripture (all Scripture at the time was in original forms of
Greek, Latin, or Hebrew) in their own languages. Luther fought for this ideal throughout his life as a
monk and professor, sparking an ideological revolution about the place of man in relation to God.
While Roman Catholicism saw the pope as the highest and only true link to God, Luther believed any
man could fulfill their duty to God and speak through their faith alone. This caused a significant
conflict in Christian ideology because Roman Catholics believed the pope s word was final, and the
pope said that Christians could and should buy indulgences and provide material things to the Church
in the name of Christianity to secure their place in Heaven. Luther, on the other hand, countered this in

Grecian Statue By Jeanette Winterson
Humans have a long history of expressing ourselves through medium for varying reasons that have not
always had to do with survival. We as a species have continued to try and portray our visons from
inside the mind to the tangible world for our fellow beings by using drawings. There are a multitude of
ways that the mind can reach our world. Some ways are seen as more familiar than others. If there are
more familiar ways, then there is also a less familiar way. The fine arts such as art are what separates a

Similarities And Differences Between Ancient Egypt And...
Midterm Essay Maureen Cairns
In comparing and contrasting the societies of Periclean Athens and ancient Egypt, we must first
mention some of the characteristics of an actual society: a society has social levels and classes, a
governmental system, and a developed culture. Both the societies of ancient Athens and Egypt fit into
these parameters. In this essay we will explore social classes, gender relations, social inequality, and
hierarchy as they apply to these societies. Both ancient Athens and Egypt adhered to a strict
hierarchical framework, ranking people as superiors or inferiors. Old Kingdom Egyptian hierarchy is
described as having the king and queen at the top, with priests, administrators, governors and army
commanders coming second, then the commoners who worked mostly in agriculture, and finally,
slaves, who had been captured in war. (Hunt, pg. 22). According to Esolen, (pg. 35), Egyptian society
was structured as such: the Pharaoh came first, and was believed to be God on earth. Next came the
Vizier , who was the pharaohs chief advisor. Nobles were next in the hierarchy, responsible for making
local laws. Priests followed, and were responsible for performing rituals and ceremonies. Scribes were
a very important group, as they were the only ones who could read or write, so they were the record
keepers. A small percentage of boys from good families were trained for this particular job, starting at
the age of five. Soldiers came next, and were responsible for the defense of the country. Craftsmen
were skilled workers (weavers, tailors, jewelry makers), farmers worked the land, and at the very
bottom were slaves, who were usually prisoners captured in war.
In Periclean Athens, all adult male citizens had political and judicial power, even the poor. The upper
class didn t agree with this, as they believed the poor lacked the education to make political decisions.
Under Pericles, citizens could only be those whose mother and father were Athenian by birth, and
because of this, a great many had their citizenship revoked. (Hunt, pg. 85). As mentioned in Hunt (pg.
90), women, slaves, and metics (foreigners granted permanent residency in exchange for military
service) made up a majority of

Discuss the View That the Impact of Earthquake Hazards...
Discuss the view that the impact of earthquake hazards depends primarily on human factors (40) .
I agree to some extent about the statement above and that human factors can affect the impact of an
earthquake hazard. A hazard is an object or process that has the potential to cause harm. Ground
shaking, ground displacement and flooding are some of the hazards that are produced during an
earthquake. In relation to the question above the type and severity of the impact can be affected by
physical factors (such as the magnitude and frequency of the quake) as well as human factors
(population density and education). I will be discussing the question using the following case studies,
Sichuan, Indonesia and L Aquila.

This lack of management lead to the collapsing of 5m buildings along with a further 21m damaged.
This included 8 schools which were toppled in Dujjangyan, killing and trapping school students.
China did not create an adequate seismic design code until after the 1976 quake and even then it was
difficult to enforce building regulations, producing a total estimated economic loss of $86b. Making
this the second mostly costly earthquake from 1900 2013. The impacts of this earthquake were caused
primarily on human factors, with adequate predicting systems and improved infrastructure the total
loss and damage could have been reduced.
From the case study above we can see that human influences were the main cause in the severity of
the impact, but that s not always the case, physical factors are just as important. This can be seen in
the great Sumatra Andaman earthquake which took place on the 26th of December 2004 and
registered a 9.1 magnitude, one of the third biggest recorded quakes. The subduction of the Indo
Australian plate under the Burma plate triggered the tsunami responsible for the greatest loss of life in

Their Eyes Were Watching God Figurative Language
The tides of love roll in and out, suiting each shore they meet, painting a picture of beautiful sparkling,

the hardships she endured to find that true and untarnished love. Janie marries thrice, each time
drawing nearer to the distant and seemingly unreachable horizon while gaining bits and pieces of self

Janie reaches far to gain this horizon she seeks, enduring bad marriages and suppression via her
Nanny and first two husbands all to reach her end goal. Janie finds true love in Teacake, her final
husband and realizes love means knowing when to let go of your beloved. When Janie sees it
necessary to shoot her husband to relieve him of his agony, she readily pulls the trigger, knowing her
husband s best interests. In the concluding paragraphs Janie pulled in her horizons like a great fish
net...and draped it over her shoulders, (Hurston 193) able to rest peacefully knowing she lived her life
to its fullest capacity. This metaphor paints the reader a picture of brightly colored horizons stretching
just beyond reach, and how Janie, through perseverance and her strong spirit could pull in her
horizons, just as every person in society strives to do.
FIG LANGUAGE Hurston introduces and concludes her book by utilizing eloquent, metaphorical
figurative language, as she discusses the differences between men s and women s dreams. She
describes the dreams of both men and women, stating that For some [men] they come in with the
tide...for others they sail forever on the horizon . This florid metaphor allows the reader to visualize
the hopes and dreams of men and gives the reader an idea of the overall struggle in society.
Metaphorically, the ships at a distance represent the struggle that many men and women will endure to
reach their dreams.

The Protest Of The Sunset Strip
Opposition to the Development The opposition to the Sunset strip addition is significant in that it

The non profit organization released a Justifications for Appeal in August 2016 in order to modify the

opposed to such large scale development for fear of major modifications to existing establishments.
West Hollywood City councilmembers Lauren Meister and John D Amico have also advocated against

towards stopping the approval of the development. To the two members displeasure the final decision
to drop its opposition to the project came in a 3 to 2 vote, ultimately ending the city s battle against the

Iago as Evil in William Shakespeare s Othello Essay
Iago as Evil in William Shakespeare s Othello
Othello is famously regarded as one of Shakespeare s greatest tragedies. It explores the downfall of a
great general Othello through a series of unlucky circumstances. Othello s character shows a man of
high status whose job, marriage and life is ruined because of his insecurities by a man named Iago.
Iago (Othello s ensign) is able to manipulate Othello, Othello s wife Desdemona and his own friend
Roderigo (a Venetian gentleman). He uses Desdemona s love of Othello and Roderigo s money with
his secret love for Desdemona, to manipulate them towards his own good. He is a psychotic driven to
kill, from strangers on a battlefield to his wife in Othello s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Roderigo argues that he deserves to take Desdemona s hand in marriage. His secret love for her drives
him crazy inside at every sight he sees her and Othello together. During this Othello is described as an
old black ram, Even now, now, very now, an old black ram . Iago thinks that Othello is too old and that
he will not be around with his job for long. The play would have opened up with this conversation in
the dark. It goes with the low yet angry dark toned language that Iago uses, Rouse him, make after
him, poison his delight also In personal suit to make me his lieutenant; off capped to him . He is
irritated after not getting the position in the army. While this was all going on Othello and Desdemona
were secretly getting married. Roderigo and Iago hear of this news and go straight to Brabantio,
Desdemona s father, to wake him and tell him of his daughter s whereabouts. The swearing and
shouting by Iago and Roderigo towards Brabantio, would catch the attention of the audience. They
would be eager to understand what is going on. There were no special effects so listening carefully to
the characters was the only way you would understand what was happening. This made it a good idea
to open the play during the night. So you in the audience would get the feel of whispers, people
sneaking around etc. They did not have good costumes

War And The Cold War
Despite the high costs of war both in monetary value and in terms of potential life and infrastructure
lost states and their actors despite their supposed rationality still seek war at times. Sometimes war is
unavoidable given the situations that actors find themselves in. States prior to war will attempt several
options such as bargaining and it is that failure in bargaining that tends to result in conflict or war.
Especially following the events of the Cold War numerous scholars have given their reasons as to why
conflict is sometimes beyond prevention. War is described as an actual widespread and deliberate
armed conflict between political communities. Following the Second World War and the Cold War,
interstate war is mostly rare ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This failure in bargaining is a study on its own. For instance in the process of bargaining many states
find it difficult to trust their rivals because of the potential for incomplete information. Often, actors
will strategically misrepresent information as a means to extract certain demands when actors cannot
reliably trust in who they are bargaining with. This distrust between actors also leads to commitment
problems. In situations when there is a potential power shift and goods could potentially be exchanged
or divided there is concern over what could possibly alter in the future. Power changes such as this can
lead to preventive war or attempts at first strikes which is when one actor might seek action as a
means to prevent war or to have an early advantage. Often the neutrality of outside actors is necessary
for bargaining to succeed or to prevent one side from future exploits. Furthermore, intrastate conflict
which is often ethnic conflict has a greater tie to territory and resources. Things like territory for an
ethnic groups has specific relation to identity likewise for the state territory in the resources that come
for it are their sign of power. This makes territory an indivisible good that cannot be divided unless
one actor suffers a significant loss making war almost inevitable because conflict becomes all or
nothing. However, some literature rebuffs ideas that conflict is unavoidable by presenting evidence of
how actors irrational behavior can be

Ginseng Environmental Problems
Environmental Problems linked to ginseng production in Ontario:
However, although consumption of ginseng has a lot of health benefits, but growing ginseng comes up
with a lot of environmental problems in Ontario.
Ginseng plants can only be harvested after 3 5 years of maturation and it also has to be under specific
conditions such as rich sandy soils, moisture, shades and appropriate temperature to produce high
quality ginseng roots (Antonacci, 2014). . Also, growing ginseng plants requires a lot of land, because
after ginseng roots are harvested from a land, a particular fungus will develop in to the soil and so that
land cannot grow any other forms of ginseng plants (Hoag, 2015). This means ginseng farmers have to
frequently seek out for new land available to grow and harvest other forms of ginseng plants to
produce a variety of ginseng products. The exploitation of lands for ginseng production will not stop
as the demand for ginseng products are increasing and it will cause greater damage to the
environment.
When ginseng plants are made into products, only the root will be used, as other parts of the plant
have no nutritional and medical value (Liu, 2017). This means other parts of the plant is useless and
will be disposed as waste, contributing to environmental damages.
Also, because of the high demand for ginseng, people were picking wild ginseng in forests (in
Southern Ontario) causing ginseng becoming an endangered species having a very low reproduction

Generally Accepted Auditing Principles
Generally Accepted Auditing Principles
Generally Accepted Auditing Principles
There are many different types of audits including financial statements audit, the operational audit and
the compliance audit. Either an internal auditor or an external auditor from another firm can conduct
these various audits. The American Accounting Association defines auditing as a systematic process of
objectively obtaining and evaluating the accounts of financial records of a governmental, business, or
other entity based on established criteria (www.referenceforbusiness.com, 2009). Essentially the
review is done to enable an accountant to assess the representations of management and to consider
whether the financial statements conform to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An operational audit is designed to examine the organizations activities to assess the performance of
the business and to develop various recommendations to improve the use of the business resources.
Finally, a compliance audit is designed to determine whether an organization is following established
procedures or rules. The company that I currently work for conducts compliance audits to ensure that
businesses are adhering to their wholesale security agreement and are following all government rules
and regulations. As an auditor, it is my responsibility to adhere to all the policies that my company
imposes on myself and to follow all government rules and regulations while conducting the audit. The
Sarbanes Oxley act has had many affects on audits of publicly traded companies. The Sarbanes Oxley
act is designed to protect investors of publicly traded companies because they are presumed to be at a
further distance from the management of the company and are therefore more vulnerable to inaccurate
reporting. Title I of the Sarbanes Oxley act creates an independent Public Company Accounting
Oversight Board, which is under the Securities and Exchange Commission. The PCAOB regulates,
registers, inspects and oversees companies that audit publicly traded companies. Title II of the
Sarbanes Oxley act legislates the behavior of auditing firms. Its most important provisions

The Film Industry, Hollywood And The Movie Industry Movie Industry/Hollywood Hollywoodland, known as the most recognizable film industry in the world from the 1920 s to now, slowly went from black and white silent movies to colorful motion pictures in the screens. Hollywood became an overnight success during the 1920 s by making improvements in the film and motion picture industry. According to Christopher Klein, author of Florence Lawrence: The First Movie Star, an article published on A+E Networks HISTORY STORIES, the actress did more than just acting. She was known for inventing signaling devices for cars in 1914. One of these devices worked as cars turning signals, moving a flag up or down depending on the direction of the turn. The other known device was a stop sign that would pop up whenever the brake pedal was pushed. • 3. The Technique of Grafting in Agriculture I. INTRODUCTION The technique of grafting dates back to the beginning of agriculture. Although it can be labor intensive, grafting has continued to be used in fruit and nut trees because of the immense benefits. Different plants produce different qualities of fruits and nuts, and not always consistently. And, because tree fruits are nearly impossible to reproduce from cuttings, grafting has become the most popular technique for fruit tree propagation. Grafting helps to produce a superior and highly valued crop (Hartmann, Kester, Davies, Geneve, 2011). New markets continue to require grafted and budded plants for improved plant quality, fruit yield, superior forms, and better adaptation to greater ecological ranges (Hartmann et al. 2011). This paper will take a closer look at the technique of grafting, where it originated from, its developments over time, and the impact it has had on agriculture. II. DEFINITION Grafting can be described as the natural or deliberate fusion of plant parts so that vascular continuity is established between them and the resulting genetically composite organism functions as a single plant (Mudge, Janick, Scofield, Goldschmidt, 2009). In other words, it involves taking part of one tree and attaching it to part of another tree. For example, a section of a stem with leaf buds might be inserted into the stock of a tree. Many times one plant is selected for its roots, called the stock or rootstock, and the other plant is selected for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Growing up in a poor neighborhood of a third world country, to poor parents, going to college seemed at times like an unreachable dream. Personally, I consider myself blessed that I was born to an uneducated, yet a smart father, who, thankfully, understood the importance of obtaining an education, even if that meant sacrificing other of the few commodities we could afford as a family. While I can say I had the full support of my family, close friends and even neighbors who bet on me to graduate from law school and become a law professional who will fight their legal battles, I have to say that I also had detractors, who thought I should had study to be a doctor, or an engineer. • 7. An Overview of the Argentine Financial Crisis Essay The financial crisis in Argentina during the late 1990s and early 2000s resulted in severe issues with foreign debt, inflation, unemployment, and political turmoil for the country. Argentina not only suffered a currency crisis, but also suffered a political crisis. Fallout from the economic collapse was so severe the Argentinean population resorted to civil unrest and protest, which in turn exacerbated Argentina s problems at the turn of the century. While other issues related to this financial crisis such as the impact on the lives of the Argentinean population or the political turmoil and corruption are certainly worthy of discussion, this paper will focus on the currency crisis and the Argentinean government s role in this economic ... In an effort to move Argentina from an internationally isolated and state dominated economy to one that encouraged international trade and foreign investments, Carlos Menem, in the early 1990s, initiated a wave of privatization, which included state owned industries such as utilities (Feldstein, 2002). Following the examples of Chile and the emerging economies of Southeast Asian nations, Menem hoped this liberalization would foster growth in productivity and economic growth. On April 1, 1991, Argentina s Congress, with Domingo Cavallo as Minister of Economy, enacted the Convertibility Law (or Ley de Convertibilidad) legally adopting the currency board (Hornbeck, 2002). This legislation essentially pegged the Argentinean peso to the U.S. dollar. The government guaranteed the convertibility of the peso to U.S. dollar at a one to one exchange rate, limiting the printing of pesos to only those necessary to purchase dollars in the foreign exchange market. Thus, the central bank was required by law to hold foreign reserves to cover its peso liabilities (Hanke and Schuler, 2002). With this fixed exchange rate, the Argentinean government was hoping to preserve the value of their currency and stabilize inflation. The peg was initially successful, as it cured hyperinflation that occurred at the end of the 1980s and provided price stability needed for economic growth in the early 1990s. • 8. The World War 2 Rotary Wing Aviation At the close of World War 2 rotary wing aviation began its transition into a so called renaissance period. New and exciting advancements were being made to give new aircraft greater stability and range. After many demonstrations on exactly what an aircraft could do, the United States Army decided to adopt rotary wing aircraft to fill a search and rescue (SAR) role initially. During the Korean War, medical evacuations and search and rescue missions took up the majority of missions for our pilots. However, we were very limited in what we could achieve. The technology was primitive in using piston driven engines along with heavier parts than necessary. Seeing how useful slow moving aircraft were to our forces, Army Aviation leaders began ... The helicopter would be called upon to undertake various missions including that of SAR, MEDEVAC, observation, transport, reconnaissance, escort, Close Air Support (CAS) and direct attack. (p.1) During the Korean War, our internal rotary winged aviation assets were performing duties in a very limited role. Although used extensively and often, the majority of missions that took place were either lift oriented, medical evacuation and in some cases reconnaissance. The helicopter most suited for this role at the time was the Bell H 13 Sioux. The H 13 saw its first flight on 8 December 1945, and marked the first large scale procurement of a helicopter by the United States Army, being utilized from 1948 onwards. While great for its time, the H 13 was very limited in what it could achieve. It was originally fitted with a piston driven engine. Eventually it would be upgraded to a turbine engine; however the frame was still heavy and even the upgraded turbine engine didn t make up for the lack of lift being generated by its measly two bladed rotor system. • 9. The Memory Of Memory And Memory A fact that cannot be denied is that human beings rely on their memory a lot, not only to remember special events or memorise facts that have been learned but also to recall processes and routines executed on a daily basis. Memory can be defined as a system that processes information in the mind, which consists of three stages; namely encoding, storage, and retrieval (Farlex Partner Medical Dictionary, 2012). Encoding refers to the receiving and modification of an informational stimulus so that it can be embedded in the memory. Storage is the next memory stage, in which information is retained and kept available until it is needed again. Information is more likely to be stored in the long term if it is continuously used and rehearsed. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The oldest recorded example of a mnemonic device is the method of loci, which was created back in the Ancient Greek era (Robson, 2011). This method involves visual imagery by relating new information to specific locations in a familiar place to a person. When this association is established, a person can recall the new information relative to the landmarks of the familiar location. Besides that, chunking is also another type of mnemonic device, in which a large piece of information is broken down into smaller chunks. A theory by Jacobs (1890), as cited in Holt Lewis (2008), stated that the capacity of the short term memory is about 5 to 9 chunks. Therefore, chunking lengthy information into smaller sections can help the human brain to encode more information at a higher rate, so that they can be stored easily. Other mnemonic devices include acronyms, keyword method, and narrative chaining. Mnemonic devices have been proven to work very well for memory enhancement. The information learned via mnemonic devices tends to be remembered better for a longer period as compared to other memorisation techniques such as rote learning. Rote learning refers to a method of memorisation based on repetition without fully understanding or focusing on what is being committed to memory (Stevens Bernier, 2013). While most people believe that repetition is the best way to remember information, the context of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to Professor Rick Peterson, there are five essential roles essential to healthy family functioning, they include providing resources, support and nurturing, development of life skills (especially for young children), maintenance and management of the family system, and sexual gratification between spouses. • 13. How Did The Roman Games Affect The Ancient Olympic Games The Ancient Olympic Games has made an impact both on the past and present time. The event became well known to the public ever since its first event around 776 BC. The Greek games determined and selected certain civilians who had exceptional endurance and athleticism within the games. The event was an opportunity for the Greek civilization to enhance their athleticism and sportsmanship without any risk of death or injury. Events like running, jumping, discus throw and many others gave glory and wreath like crowns to those worthy contestants who proved to have outstanding physical training. The purpose of the Ancient Olympics was secular in order to honor the Greek god Zeus. However in Rome, the Romans also followed with their own event to honor the Roman chief god, Jupiter Optimus Maximus. The Roman Games, called ludi, was quite different from the Greek Olympic system. Ludi had three programs of spectacles for Roman civilians: ludi circenses, venationes, and ludi scaenici. Ludi circenses were games being played within a circus, most primarily chariot racing and gladiator fights (munera) were the main events under the circus program. Venationes were games with an additional appearance from animals. Animals played part in the Roman Games to be hunted as a complement to the gladiator games. Ludi scaenici were not technically actual games compared to chariot racing and animal hunts, but a leisure activity of watching theater. The purpose of Ludi was to not only honor Jupiter, ... Invasive Mycoses Research Paper Invasive Mycoses Fungi have emerged over the past several decades as major contributors to human disease.(1, 2) As populations of immunocompromised and/or hospitalized patients continue to increase, so will the incidence of invasive fungal infections. A recent study reported that fungemia in the United States increased by 207% between 1979 and 2000.(3) Moreover, as the populations at risk for fungal infection continue to expand, so will the spectrum of pathogens capable of infecting those individuals. Invasive mycoses may be categorized as i) opportunistic or ii) endemic. Endemic infections, which are generally confined to specific geographic regions, are most often acquired via inhalation of spores. Infective agents include, but are not limited to, Histoplasma capulsatum, Coccidioides immitis, and Blastomyces dermatitidis. These infections frequently mimic common pulmonary infections in initial stages and are therefore often misdiagnosed. Dissemination and advanced disease follow. When a kid this age is being taught it is all really observational, because they look to you for guidance and on how to do everything properly. They literally try to copy everything you do. Ma helps amplify the theme of feminism and women s rights in different scenarios. Her relationships with Pa, her daughter Rose of Sharon, and even herself all convey different elements of an extraordinary leader and an amazing mother. Ma and Pa s relationship throughout The Grapes of Wrath defies the idea of a normal couple in the era of the Dust Bowl. They are represented very much as equals through the conflicts their family has to face, contrary to other couples, where the husband is in charge. Ma takes the lead in many situations and Pa respects, and maybe even fears her opinions. Ma commandeers decision making and often causes conflicts with her strong beliefs. • 22. The Tower Of Babel To Jacob And Esau Reconciled Brief Paper Senior Seminar in Interdisciplinary Studies Dr. Packer Eric G. Shuping March 31, 2015 Brief Paper From The Tower of Babel to Jacob and Esau Reconciled, we learn about honor, betrayal, and forgiveness from the book of Genesis. From these themes we learn what applies to our everyday life and how we are able to survive. At the start of Genesis twelve, God honors a promise that he made to Abraham that he will behold and protect as long as he lived. Go forth from your land and your birthplace and your father s house to the land I will show you. And I will make you a great nation and I will bless you and make your name great, and you shall be a blessing. And I will bless those who bless you, and those who damn you I will curse, and all the clans of the earth through you shall be blessed. (Genesis 12: pg. 126). God s determination to honor Abraham was to bring his family and wife back to the birthplace of his father s, where Abraham s name will be blessed and in greatness to people who come and honor him. God placed Abraham to be a father of all nations to kings that will come honor Abraham for his wisdom that he bestows upon them, and to give his seed the land of Canaan and resurrected an altar before him. God states to Abraham, As for you, you shall keep My commandment, you and your seed after you through their generations. (Genesis 17: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 127). With the use of a contingency table we will evaluate the measures of validity of the screening test used. In the study of the association between benzene exposure and leukemia causality has been established using the Bradford Hill criteria for two specific agents: Ionizing radiation and benzene. Evidence has been established that high daily exposure to benzene in both a time dose relationship and with dose and response with specific types of such as AML leukemia (Pagano et al., 2006). However, it has been noted by Pagano et al., that results on the environmental factors contain inconsistent results due to the design of the study, uncontrolled bias, and the variance in the populations at risk (2006). Environmental factors such as socioeconomic status, alcohol consumption, and smoking are known contributors to the development of leukemia (Pagano et al., 2006). It s been observed that occupational exposure to industrial hazards is significantly more frequent overall in populations from lower socioeconomic backgrounds (Nisse et al., 2001). • 27. Cosmopolitanism In Things Fall Apart And Kwame Anthony Achebe Throughout life, one is faced with choices between individualism and communitarianism. Such choices are reflected in many works of literature, including Chinua Achebe s novel Things Fall Apart and Kwame Anthony Appiah s Cosmopolitanism. The current report examines the first reading in the context of the second. Achebe s story is about the clash between tradition and change in an African village; Appiah s work advocates a unified perspective from which we are seen to be connected through basic humanism. The basic assumption of this author is that when one applies Appiah s idea of obligation to others in Cosmopolitanism to the character of Okonkwo in Achebe s Things Fall Apart (who is also the book s protagonist), the character changes in terms of how his fate or destiny is conveyed, as well as other aspects of his development. Although Okonkwo is a character of complexity, depth, and three dimensionality, one of his chief features is his resistance to change. This resistance is personal in nature, and Okonkwo then tries to impose this personal resistance on a greater community, rather than listening to it. By emphasizing the failure of the personal over the communal in Okonkwo s actions, Achebe draws sharp parallels between people helping each other and people driving each other towards entropy. According to Appiah, cosmopolitanism can be defined according to several of its divisions: One is the idea that we have obligations to others, obligations that stretch ... During the sixteenth century, both the Ottoman and Tokugawa Japanese empires had political and economic similarities and differences. Politically, these empires were alike because both had centralized bureaucracy but different because they had very distinct ways of keeping order within their empires. Economically, they were similar because both depended on trade yet different because of their willingness to trade. After close analysis the Tokugawa Japanese empire was more successful economically. Politically the Ottoman empire and Tokugawa Japanese empire were similar because each of them established a central bureaucracy as the head of their government to help maintain a stable yet effective way of running their empires. In the Ottoman empire, the supreme authority was the sultan who controlled political and military operations. While the grand vizier, also known as the chief minister carried the main burden of the state. As the empire started to expand, the status and prestige of the sultan increased and a centralized administration system was adopted to help maintain order. • 32. The Influence Of The Roman Catholic Church And Christianity In the 16th century, Christianity dominated western Europe due to the Roman Empire. The Roman Catholic Church controlled most of the Christian ideology through the king and especially through the pope. The power the Roman Catholic Church held was primarily due to the fear that people had at the time and their belief that everything the Roman Catholic Church was true because they could not read or apply Christianity to themselves from Scripture. The first great divide with this power, however, came when Martin Luther wrote the 95 Theses about the selling of indulgences and other issues he found with the Church. Luther was an educated theologian professor who believed that the average person should be able to have access to Scripture (all Scripture at the time was in original forms of Greek, Latin, or Hebrew) in their own languages. Luther fought for this ideal throughout his life as a monk and professor, sparking an ideological revolution about the place of man in relation to God. While Roman Catholicism saw the pope as the highest and only true link to God, Luther believed any man could fulfill their duty to God and speak through their faith alone. This caused a significant conflict in Christian ideology because Roman Catholics believed the pope s word was final, and the pope said that Christians could and should buy indulgences and provide material things to the Church in the name of Christianity to secure their place in Heaven. Luther, on the other hand, countered this in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Similarities And Differences Between Ancient Egypt And... Midterm Essay Maureen Cairns In comparing and contrasting the societies of Periclean Athens and ancient Egypt, we must first mention some of the characteristics of an actual society: a society has social levels and classes, a governmental system, and a developed culture. Both the societies of ancient Athens and Egypt fit into these parameters. In this essay we will explore social classes, gender relations, social inequality, and hierarchy as they apply to these societies. Both ancient Athens and Egypt adhered to a strict hierarchical framework, ranking people as superiors or inferiors. Old Kingdom Egyptian hierarchy is described as having the king and queen at the top, with priests, administrators, governors and army commanders coming second, then the commoners who worked mostly in agriculture, and finally, slaves, who had been captured in war. (Hunt, pg. 22). According to Esolen, (pg. 35), Egyptian society was structured as such: the Pharaoh came first, and was believed to be God on earth. Next came the Vizier , who was the pharaohs chief advisor. Nobles were next in the hierarchy, responsible for making local laws. Priests followed, and were responsible for performing rituals and ceremonies. Scribes were a very important group, as they were the only ones who could read or write, so they were the record keepers. A small percentage of boys from good families were trained for this particular job, starting at the age of five. Soldiers came next, and were responsible for the defense of the country. Craftsmen were skilled workers (weavers, tailors, jewelry makers), farmers worked the land, and at the very bottom were slaves, who were usually prisoners captured in war. In Periclean Athens, all adult male citizens had political and judicial power, even the poor. The upper class didn t agree with this, as they believed the poor lacked the education to make political decisions. Under Pericles, citizens could only be those whose mother and father were Athenian by birth, and because of this, a great many had their citizenship revoked. (Hunt, pg. 85). Often, actors will strategically misrepresent information as a means to extract certain demands when actors cannot reliably trust in who they are bargaining with. Power changes such as this can lead to preventive war or attempts at first strikes which is when one actor might seek action as a means to prevent war or to have an early advantage.
