Evaluation Of The Wheaton Sanitary District
The Wheaton Sanitary District is already using a state of the art monitoring system to track status
and record the measurement of the key plant operational equipment. The Supervisory Control and
Data Access (SCADA) system interfaced with the plant equipment provides, the operation team, a
real time data on the key components of the plant s equipment. SCADA allows operational team to
open, close or adjust equipment parameters to archive maximum efficiency to meet the peak
demand. According to Russell and Taylor (2014), the size and complexity of the problem makes
the decision making often difficult. Further, the flow is controlled by a bottleneck, so any resource
should spend no time on non productive activities, but must have material to work on to overcome
the theory of constrain and the focus should be of automation efforts. SCADA does allow
automation and the data collected from SCADA helps aeration optimization for scheduling which
will ultimately reflect any capacity limitations. The new high energy turbo blowers save 30%
energy to mix and aerate the tanks (Poole, Neighbors, Green, Baert, Sosnowski, and Wold, 2012)
and the control flow provides additional saving with no additional capital cost. The real time
monitoring and the dissolved oxygen (D.O.) measuring in the aeration tanks allows a development
of a new plant control strategies to optimize the system performance thus consuming less power.
Increasing and changing the capacity There are many options available

Introduction Marijuana is classified as a Schedule I substance under the US federal Drug
Scheduling system created by the Controlled Substances Act of 1970 (CSA), which indicates that
the substance has a high potential for abuse and no approved medicinal use. This policy has the
support of several propionate organizations such as the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA)
and the American Medical Association (AMA) (Office of National Drug Control Policy 2014).
Despite these facts, Medical Marijuana is currently legal in 23 States and the District of Columbia
(Procon.org 2014). The use of medical marijuana in these states is supported by several national
organizations such as the American Nurses Association, the American Public Health Association,

While alternative treatments do exist, some individuals receive maximum benefit through the use
of marijuana. Based on this understanding the argument has been made that the use of medical
marijuana is protected under the American Disabilities Act (ADA). The reasoning behind this is
that medical marijuana allows individuals with certain debilitating conditions to function and
maintain a reasonable quality of life. Since medical marijuana is necessary for these individuals it
would be a reasonable accommodation to allow the use of the illicit substance under proper doctor

The Ongoing Transmit Short Story
The Ongoing Transmit It all started on a Friday afternoon in Dolgeville New York. Dave was
with a group of friends. Dave was a young man with short blond hair, and pale white skin. He
was at Dolgeville High School talking with his friends Holly, Brooke, Sarah, and Kevin. They
Were talking about what they heard on the news, there is an old house just outside of Dolgeville
supposedly had a ghost that had been trapped in the basement. They said that the ghost has been
down in the basement for over 150 years, and the ghost has been sending S.O.S. on a ham radio.
They were planning to go to the house and see if there really was a ghost.
After School all of them piled in Dave s Dodge Aspen RT station wagon, and headed to the house.

the noises stopped. He turned the key the rest of the way then started to open the door. He shined
the light in the little room and seen an old ham radio. He opened the door the rest of the way and
then he seen something he had never seen before. There was a ghost sitting in the chair next to the
radio with a Morse code button in his hand. Dave dropped the flashlight and ran up the stairs to
the car with everyone else following behind. They jumped in the car and drove back home and
never went back to the house. Later that year people started saying that the S.O.S. signal stopped
transmitting. A few months later a married couple bought the house and fixed it up. They never
said anything about a ghost living there. They found the old ham radio in the basement and fixed
it. The husband decided to keep the radio for himself and learn to use it. From that day on no one
had ever heard the signal sending S.O.S. ever

Tiger Sharks-Personal Narrative
I muttered swear words under my breath as I finally made it into the doors of work. Usually I m

Mike... you don t look prepared. Alysha greeted bluntly. Yeah, got caught up in an article. I
admitted, trying to fix the wrinkles in my un ironed blue shirt. Ohhh, you should tell me about it
later, when you look presentable. She insulted. Damn her. I gave a tired nod before turning my
attention to Mr. Harland who was about to begin speaking. Good morning everyone, I hope you

Everyone takes their own car, so I ducked into my beloved grey Audi A6 and purred the engine to
a start as I waited for Alysha. Once her white Nissan Juke flitted by, I took my turn by backing
out of my employee parking space, following her lead. Alysha. No matter how snappy that
woman gets, I could never actually bring myself to hate her. Who could, really. She meets my
intellectual level, and we keep each other in check. I get her and she gets me, which is why we
work so well together on a team. Beauty with a brain, I like to describe her. Our group was
small. It consisted of Amie, William, and two other girls named Roly and Veronica. One by one,
our cars pulled into the aquarium parking lot to find a space suitable for our wheels. Once done,
we came together in front of the deep blue building. Ready? Alysha asked, throwing her blonde
hair behind her as we started into the building. The two girls Roly and Veronica walked close
together, sharing whispers and light giggles. Best

In the United States of America the sports industry is booming. Parents are having their infants
ski the day after they learn how to walk. Young children are learning how to play a variety of
sports so they can figure out what they want their varsity letter in during high school. The
problem is that these children are learning how to play the sport but they are not being taught the
correct way to prepare their bodies for the sport. People may say that because younger children
are not at the competitive level of sports they do not need proper warm up and cool down
exercises. As a society, we know what children are taught at a young age take through out their

Between the 1500s and 1700s in Europe, the use of exercise to treat muscle and bone disorders
continued to progress ( History of Physical ). In the 1800s, exercise and muscle re education were
used for a variety of orthopedic diseases and injuries ( History of Physical ). Stretching had become
a large part of medical treatments such as: osteopathy, chiropractic therapy and physiotherapy (
History and Benefits ). The polio epidemic boomed during the 1910 s and doctors realized that
strengthening and stretching the muscles helped these people to feel more comfortable ( History
of Physical ). The new P.T. or Physical Therapy has come along, exercises and stretching have
become the fad of helping with orthopedic diseases and injuries, just as it did before. Some
exercises now prevent one from having surgery. Stretching and/or warming up prepare muscles
and joints for high levels of stress. It literally warms up the temperature of muscles and joints to
make them more flexible. It is very easy to properly stretch. Study almost any cat to learn the fine
art of stretching. Their back arches first in one direction and then in other, their foot pads flare and

Compare And Contrast The Santa Ana And Brush Fire
Different Things
People can look at the same situations and see different things. In Brush Fire by Linda Thomas and
The Santa Ana by Joan Didion, both writers are writing about the same situation however, the texts
are both vastly different. Both essays are written about the Santa Ana winds, which is a wind that
blows through both southern and northern California. The message of Brush Fire by Linda Thomas
is that the Santa Ana winds are more of an event that happens yearly that causes many great effects
on the earth that outway the bad. Nevertheless, in The Santa Ana by Joan Didion the message is
that the Santa Ana is a horrid occurrence that happens each year that only brings a string of
negative effects with it. The writers take a completely different approach, trying to describe the
subject. The author s writing style divert from each other through the use of style elements,
rhetorical and literary devices, as well as rhetorical appeals.
The Santa Ana and Brush Fire have several similarities and differences in style elements. The
Santa Ana and Brush Fire differ in the use of syntax. In The Santa Ana, Didion uses more
complex syntax with longer sentences and the text overall is longer. Dissimilar from Brush
Fire, in which Thomas uses a simpler syntax that has much shorter and concise sentences. The
Santa Ana also uses antithesis repeatedly, which establishes a juxtaposition, this shows the good
and bad of the situation. Thomas s sentences are shorter and more fact based which gets more to
the point faster and shorter. However, Didion s sentences are longer and more opinion and has a
more personal feel than, Brush Fire. The diction in The Santa Ana and Brush Fire differ vastly.
Thomas uses a more dark diction uses words like words like murder, suicide, and depression.
Unlike, Didion who has a more reflective diction and uses words like return , will be , new , and
cancels out . Both The Santa Ana and Brush Fire use a heavy use of imagery. In The Santa Ana
Didion not only describes the Santa Ana winds, but also describes other winds that are similar.
Didion compares the winds to show the negative effects that both winds have on the people. An
example of this is The Santa Ana,which is named for one

The sculpture was made during the Late Classical Period, which was the era that had an increased
motion in expressive art during the 4th century. The sculptors of the 4th century Late Classical
period developed Classical sculpture from idealized, life like, stoic statues to depicting narratives
and figures in less ideal states (Boundless, 2015). This period begins with the ending of the High
Classical Period and with the start and end of the Peloponnesian Warfrom 431 to 404 BCE leaving

Born in Athens, Greece in 428 BCE, Plato had limits of primary sources to use while growing
up, so in place of that he was always surrounded by scholars and historians which shows an
emphasis within his own writings (Biography). The curriculum he would have been taught was
a range from Cratylus, Pythagoras, and even Parmenides. It is believed that these teachings have
had a great influence of Plato s study of metaphysics and epistemology (Biography). His parents
were to be very important figures as well. His father was Ariston, who was a descendent from
the kings of Athens and Messenia, and his mother Perictione, who is believed to be related to
Solon, who was a Greek statesmen in 6th Century BCE. As Plato got older he experienced two
events that changed his life before he knew it which were meeting his teacher Socrates, the great
Greek philosopher, and the Peloponnesian War where Plato himself was a part of for five years.
Soon after the war ended, Plato had considered to uphold a career in politics, but sadly the death
of his mentor turned him away from the idea and decided to turn to his profession he continued to
do throughout his lifetime, which is to study life and philosophy. He traveled to several parts of
Italy and Egypt for 12 years, searching and studying forms of mathematics and astronomy and the
different ways human kind perceive to what they believe life is. As Plato got older, he founded the

Nixon Checkers Speech
Richard Nixon Checkers Speech On September 23, 1952 Richard Milhous Nixon sat down to
address the largest television audience ever amassed by a politician this was no ordinary political
speech. Nixon s future in politics was on the line. In one speech Nixon had the daunting task of
not only clearing his name of the allegation that he had received illegal campaign funds, but he
also had to present himself as a viable asset to the Republican ticket. Nixon bared his heart to the
American people, and in turn was applauded for his honesty and good character. Nixon s speech
was met with nearly unanimous acceptance and praise. But, audience acceptance alone is not what

The purpose of Nixon s speech must also be examined in order to make a comprehensive
analysis of the speech. In his autobiography Nixon described the three criteria his speech must
meet in order to convey his purpose: (1) [it must] answer the immediate attack by explaining and
defending the fund, (2) ward off further allegations by showing that he did not accrue personal
profit, and (3) launch a political counterattack (176). Nixon used these guide lining principles to
steer his way in the short 48 hour period he had to compose his speech. The principal way these
purposes were achieved was through the application of the three Aristotelian modes of proof:
ethos, pathos and logos (Cathcart 45). The primary Aristotelian proof Nixon used to appeal to
his audience was ethos, or credibility. In a sense, the purpose of the Checkers Speech was to
reaffirm Nixon s status as a reputable politician the public could put their faith in. Robert
Cathcart more precisely defined ethos as the image that receivers have of the communicator as
an expert source with a capacity for leadership and decision making and as one who can be
trusted . Nixon s credibility was gone as far as the American public was concerned until he
cleared his name of the allegations he had used $16,000 of private funds given to him by outside
donors. In order to prove his credibility Nixon decided to

Tilted Arc
The Destruction of Public Art Tilted Arc (Figure 1) was brought down on the 15th of March of
1989 by the General Services Administration (GSA) in the centre of New York s federal plaza.
Tilted Arc was a site specific work of a curved steel wall or barrier, that was 120 feet long and 12
feet high, with an arch that gave the effect of the wall leaning inwards. The GSA commissioned
Richard Serra to build a sculpturefor the Art in Architecture program that would be placed in the
plaza in front of the Jacob K Davits Federal building. The work was set up in 1981 and received a
few critical comments. However, it was only when William Diamond, an appointee GSA New York
Regional Administrator, started to investigate a bit more that he created substantial arguments
against the sculpture to try and relocate it. Tilted Arc then became a controversial piece of work
that involved the art world and major associations and resulted in a lawsuit and public hearing in
1985. The main issues that surrounded the controversy relate to the way in which the space was
transformed, the rights of the artist, and censorship. In addition, we must question the role of public
artin society, if certain works should be considered public art, and the ways in which power and
politics can influence the arts. Richard Serra is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Does Traditional Mexican Music Influence People s...
In my personal experience, Mexican music has revolved around my life for as long as I can
remember. Growing up in a bordertown has its Hispanic heritage. Whether I was at home, school,
or even in public places, I would hear Spanish related music playing in the background. I believe
Spanish music holds many values when it comes to different occasions. The musiccan manipulate
the minds of its listeners using love, passion, and outstanding rhythms. After reading an article
online, I can explain how three different genres of traditional Mexican music influence people s
culture.
The genre that most people know Mexican music by is Mariachi. Mariachi is usually played at
birthday parties, quinceaГ±eras, and any other social gathering. In a Mariachi band, the member s
attire consists of a Charro suit and sombrero. For the main part, they use violins, trumpets, a
classical guitar and a vihuela (a five string guitar). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ranchera music can tell a story, and use love, patriotism, and nature to make a magnificent melody.
The music originates from the word rancho meaning ranches. Coming from rural parts of Mexico,
Ranchera music usually starts with El Grito Mexicano a yell that the musician or audience
member makes. Finally Ranchera music can be simallary compared to the tempo of a waltz, a
polka or a bolero.
The last genre NorteГ±o is comprised of other music like Tejano or Tex Mex . This kind of
music is very relatable to me and is personally one of my favorite type of Mexican music. A
twelve string guitar known as bajo sexto and the accordion are NorteГ±o s most characteristic
instruments. NorteГ±o music is usually played by a group of men or a band. The music is
originated from migrated europeans who traveled to northern

Questions On Attachment Theory And Attachment Parenting
Introduction
People can and do get the [attachment] theory confused with attachment parenting. The result of
this may be that some parents, thinking that attachment parenting is too consuming and also
because western society has a need for independence and separation, may then look for alternative
methods that do not involve any form of attachment methods . The purpose of researching these
theories is to gather information about attachment theory for those involved to make informed
decisions that do not involve a specific parenting philosophy that may not suit their family s
needs.
Attachment is the method through which people acquire specific positive and close emotional
bonds with others. In mature relationships, people may be equal ... Show more content on

Freud believed that infants develop maternal relationships because mothers feed them and satisfy
their hunger. However, animal studies have provided evidence that feeding does not necessarily
explain the attachment. In fact, experiments have found that infant rhesus monkeys raised in an
isolated environment preferred the contact with a comfortable cloth covered surrogate mother, even
while feeding from the nourishing wire surrogate mother, demonstrating that the basis for
attachment relationships does not reside solely in feeding. These experiments also found that the
ones raised by simulated mothers were scared when placed alone in foreign situations.
Another expert, Erik Erikson, proposed an eight stage psychosocial development process. In his
theory, each stage involves a task that must be completed if infants are to successfully move to the
next stage. The initial stage of Trust versus mistrust in psychosocial development arises in the first
year of life. During this stage infants need to develop a sense of trust in themselves and in the world
around them. The infant depends on the parents, with an emphasis on the mother, for nourishment.
Their relative interpretation of world and society stems from the parent child interaction. If the
parents expose the child to consistency, and steady affection, the child s perception will be that of
trust. However, if parents fail to provide a safe environment that meets

An Analysis Of Ex-Basketball By John Updike
Updike s poem, Ex Basketball , is a poem that remembers the heyday of Flick, while at the same
time illustrating a descriptive picture for the reader. He commences with a description of a
journey down a street that could represent Flick s life; full of turns and promises but dead ends
because of a lack of training. Moreover, John Updike composes this poem with figurative language,
correct diction, and imagination using valuable elements to create an excellent effect on the tone
and meaning of this poetic style poem. I could say that the theme of Ex basketballfocuses on the
fact that if one does not work hard on achieving their goals, they will not succeed in reaching their
dream. In fact, the outcome of not reaching your goals can lead to frustration and disappointment
in life. Evidently, Flick shows a reflection of people who once were successful in sports when he
was in high school, but has drastically different future than one might think.
To be able to understand the poem, Updike starts by saying Pearl Avenue runs past the high
school lot which serves as a metaphor describing pathways highlighting the best and past in
Flick achievements. In addition, he is providing the reader with a specific and vivid description
to a journey, traveling in mind to a certain place and setting of the poem. Also, when he states
Bends with the trolley tracks, and stops, cut off ; he is sending the message that Flick s glory
days have vanished right after high school. Accordingly, leading the way abruptly to Berth Garage
can be interpreted as the gas station where more likely Flick works his entire life. With all this
uttered, the speaker is provoking a feeling of nostalgia, creating a connection to the poem s meaning.
The Speaker of the poem segues into Flick working at the gas station with Flick standing around,
waiting to help out. In my opinion Flick stands tall among the idiot pumps indicates that Flick
standing tall and with pride near the pumps. However, Flick s skills are evidence of his
intelligence, which seems to be higher than everyone else at the gas station making him look great,
but alone and at the same time converting himself as his own team player. This could be a
representation of a former

The Ultimate Ensemble hypothesis of Tegmark himself. This level considers equally real all
universes that can be defined by mathematical structures. This also includes those having physical
laws different from our observable universe. Tegmark writes that abstract mathematics is so
general that any Theory Of Everything (TOE) that is definable in purely formal terms
(independent of vague human terminology) is also a mathematical structure. For instance, a TOE
involving a set of different types of entities (denoted by words, say) and relations between them
(denoted by additional words) is nothing but what mathematicians call a set theoretical model,
and one can generally find a formal system that it is a model of. He argues this implies that any

As a result, this set the stage for a confrontation between the U.S. and Pancho Villa. Hence, the

Craig Elwood Ls
When diagraming Case Study House #16 by Craig Elwood I discovered that the plan was made
up of a series of L shape geometries that were correlated and organized around a diagonal line.
These L shapes varied in direction and size but were the regulating geometries of the plan, in
specific the mass and void of the house itself. These L geometries identified the bones of the plan
and allowed a rotation within the plan to be revealed and later emphasized. Once the rotation was
revealed, groups of Ls were then analyzed, questioned, chosen and emphasized within a new
diagram. These Ls rotated around a central point and reformed the mostly rectangular plan into a
circular diagram. At this stage the Ls were associated with other geometries

Explaining Bounded Rationality
Explaining Bounded Rationality
As proposed by Herbert Simon, bounded rationality defines the idea that clarifies the concept of the
human rationality. In other words, it maintains that there exists a limit to any individual s
intellectual capability, accessible information, and time regardless of how smart he/she may be
(Ibrahim, 2009). Undeniably, quite many decisions are often not entirely thought through since
people can only remain rational ones within the constraints of cognitive ability and time. Therefore,
it is crucial that this aspect of intelligence and its impacts are taken into consideration whenever a
solution is to be arrived at.

Sylvia Plath Accomplishments
Sylvia Plath the famous American writer from Boston, Massachusetts accomplished many great
poems and short stories in her short life. One of the greatest quotes and a personal favorite is If

Trauma and Adult Learning Essay
Trauma and Adult Learning
Effects of Trauma on Learning
Adults experiencing the effects of past or current trauma may display such symptoms as difficulty
beginning new tasks, blame, guilt, concern for safety, depression, inability to trust (especially those
in power), fear of risk taking, disturbed sleep, eroded self esteem/confidence, inability to
concentrate, or panic attacks (Mojab and McDonald 2001). Some people may manifest no
symptoms; at the other end of the spectrum is Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, characterized by
flashbacks, avoidance, numbing of responsiveness (including substance abuse), persistent
expectation of danger, constriction (dissociation, zoning out), and memory impairment (Isserlis
2001).

A number of authors urge reframing of these discourses:
Instead of diagnosing and treating victims, find ways to make the learning environment safer for
everyone (Horsman 1997).
Recognize the role of power in limiting individual agency and choice and the ways in which
institutions make personal and structural violence possible and legitimize it (Pearce 1999).
Acknowledge the hidden learning that occurs through traumatic experiences (Horsman 2000b;
Williamson 2000).
What is learned from trauma and how might educators respond? Studies of people enduring
extreme situations suggest that learning is a key to survival in adversity (Williamson 2000).
Successful learning is supposed to occur when conditions are right: accessible opportunities, time,
appropriate support, safety, motivation, risks with manageable consequences (ibid.). Yet in extreme
situations, learning must take place quickly and without the right conditions. What is learned in
response to trauma is influenced by prior knowledge, background, familial and social relationships,
and personal qualities and abilities (Pearce 1999; Williamson 2000). This is not to blame the
victim for inappropriate learning or responses, but to underscore the importance of resources and
support and the recognition that learning has to be geared to meet a range of individual needs.
Some of the hidden learning from trauma includes the following:

Claude Of Claude Debussy s Theory Of Russian Composers Of...
Claude Debussy Claude Debussy also known as Achille Claude Debussy has been one of the
most influential composers of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Debussy was born
into a middle class family being the son of a shopkeeper and a seamstress and the oldest of his
five siblings. Debussy began his career at the Paris Conservatory at the very young age of 11.
During his studies, he met the wealthy Nadezhda von Meck, a patroness of Tchaikovsky, who
employed him to be the music teacher to her son Nikolai von Meck. Through this Nadezhda von
Meck exposed the growing Debussy to the works of Russian composers, such as Borodin and
Mussorgsky, who continue to be significant influences on his compositions. In 1884, when
Debussy was 22 years old, he entered his cantata L Enfant prodigy also known as The Prodigal
Child in the Prix de Rome, a worldwide competition for composers. Debussy took home the top
prize, which allowed him to study for up to three years in the Italian capital studying at the Villa
Medici. Unfortunately, he returned to Paris after only two years. While he was in Rome, he
studied the music of German composer Richard Wagner. Wagner s influence on Debussy was
profound and lasting, but despite this, Debussy shied away from the ostentation of Wagner s
opera in his works. In 1892 at the age mid age of 30, Debussy began to compose for operas with the
start of PellГ©as et MГ©lisande, a play written by Met Erik Satie, a pianist from Montmartre,

Taking a Look at Secular Humanism
All systems of thought and each worldview have a notion of God. Secular humanism is defined as
a belief system where humanity is the sovereign of all beings, and where reality and information
rests in science and reason. The secular humanistic worldview started as a substitute among
religions. Humanism is not a religious belief system in itself, while secular means not religious. A
religionis any system of belief that informs an individual s worldview. The secular humanistic
worldview has a distinctive belief on many disciplines such as theology, ethics, and evolution
among others. Thus, the thesis of this paper is; the secular humanismworldview is religious, as
secular humanists uphold beliefs and values that hold them with dedication. The purpose of this
research paper is to discuss whether the secular humanistic worldview is indeed religious and how it
has influenced the American Culture. Secular humanismis nontheistic and religious because it
directs itself towards beliefs and practices that are in active opposition to customary theism.
According to the Humanistic Manifestos I and II, secular humanism is a religious and
philosophical moral point of view (House 381).
The founders of the secular humanistic worldview considered it a religion. The ideals of the
movement can be traced to ancient philosophers, scientists and poets of classical Rome and Greece

Many people shaped the world by making the efforts to develop technology.

In 1890 a man named Herman Hollerith devised a machine to speed up census taking (Long and

After experiencing the 1880 census Herman devised a Tabulating Machine in order to speed the

machine read the punched holes after they were passed through electrical contacts ( Hollerith,

Nosferatu Outcome One Analysis
Outcome One is the ability to write in a way that reaches one s intended audience. That means the
author must understand the differences between audiences, genres, and formal versus informal
writing. For instance, while writing a movie review, the author assumes the reader has not seen the
movie. Therefore, to be able to reach the intended audience, the author must summarize the movie
s plot and specific scenes to familiarize the reader before they reveal why they liked or disliked the
film.
Outcome One is important because if one does not take their audience into account, it can produce
inconsistencies that lead the audience to be confused on the paper s intended purpose. A formal
paper should address the audience respectfully, and if a writer were to constantly use slang within
the piece, it could be regarded as being disrespectful. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Concentration Of Reactants During The Fastest Rate Of...
It was hypothesised that the solution at 80 degrees C and the greatest concentration of reactants
would result in the fastest rates of reaction and reaction time. This was because of the scientific
reasoning that at larger temperatures and concentrations atomic particles collide with greater
energy and more frequently. The data collected from the experiment supports the hypothesis. It was
observed that the largest concentration of reactants, 0.2M and 0.5M, had the highest reaction rateof
0.00484 mol/L/s, and quickest induction phase, 1 second. Also, the slowest reaction time was
21.51 seconds and was the reaction between KIO3 at 0.05M and Na2S2O5 at 0.125M, which were
the smallest amounts of reactant. In addition, the highest temperature tested, which was 80 degrees,
produced the fastest reaction time with 4.58 seconds, while 70 degrees ranked close behind in
second. These results align with previous data and theories, which state that as temperature and
concentration rise, the time it takes to react generally decreases and the reaction rate increases
(Wilbraham, 2002), (UC Davis, n.d.).
From the testing and results several major trends and relationships were discovered. The first
observation, which supports the hypothesis, is the relationship between concentration of reactants
and reaction rate. As concentration increased, the reaction rate also increased in direct proportion.
This was shown by the results because when the concentrations doubled, from 0.1M and 0.125M to

The Impact Of Sigmund Freud On Psychiatric Practice
The Impact of Sigmund Freud on Psychiatric Practice The psychiatric practice would terrify the
mentally ill, but not until Sigmund Freud came along. During the early 1800 s, the Catholic Church
would torture people that were mentally ill, blaming them to be sinners because of their illness.
Freud graduated as a general doctor, but soon found a great interest in the human brain. He came up
with the theories of psychoanalysis, Oedipus complex, Electra complex, and even with dream
interpretation. Because of all his theories, there were psychoanalytic societies formed, which
influenced artists and writers. Even now the way children are educated has changed because of
him. Sigmund Freudimpacted psychiatric practice and with his theories, the world now knows how
the human behavior really works. Years ago, the psychiatric practice was not the same as it is
today, but instead, it was torturous. The Catholic Church was the one involved with the psychiatric
practice. In the mid 1800 s, Russia started to set up asylums for the most troubled people. The
Church made the people believe that they should attend mass on a regular basis in order to cure
their mental stability. Since the sixteenth century and forward, asylums were being established all
around the world. The Valencia mental hospital in Spain was the first mental institution to open in
1406 C.E. Cruel treatment was given to the people that were admitted to this asylum. Instead of

Star Wars was first released in May 1977. It is a series of movies based on an epic space adventure

distant past, and portrays two important characterization like the Jedi as a representation of good,

would not have reached its highest without the prominently themed music created by John
Williams. The renowned themes the force and imperial march are one of Williams most widely
known music scores and motion pictures of all history. John Williams was able to vividly depict the
characters conflict between good and evil through the use of musical elements like timbre, pitch
and duration to create the individual characters.
The composer utilised timbre to express the evil tyranny of the storm troopers arrival in the Darth
Vader s theme . The composer uses instrumentation like strings, timpani, horns and great emphasis

Tiny Compton, in response, made a large mistake by raising their property and school taxes and
they did a fantastic job at this and exceeded almost all other L.A towns during the time. Yikes.
Fortunately, this did not stop people from relocating there during World War II. Schools became

Compare And Contrast Italian And Renaissance Art
Anna Jacoby
AP European History
Ms. Sennett
September 2017
Italian vs. Northern Renaissance Art During the Renaissance, the people of Europe experienced a
rebirth of culture and study of classical antiquity. New ideas arose that transformed every aspect of
European life. Beginning in Italy, the Renaissance spread northward to the rest of Europe. Italy
had the advantage of not being hit by the Black Death or the Hundred Years War, in comparison
to the rest of Europe, and therefore was able to trade to Asia and maintain prosperous cities
during the Middle Ages. The Italians, as a result, had merchants who were proud of their success
in business, which they believed was possible because of their merit as an individual. The
merchants were able to fuel the Renaissance in Italy by commissioning artists and writers to
produce specific works. Northern Europe still needed to recover from the Black Death and
Hundred Years War to gain political and economic stability to have a Renaissance. While both the
Italians and Northern Europeans went through a Renaissance, they experienced the Renaissance
differently, and the similarities and differences between their experiences in terms of how they
each developed the ideals of humanism, individualism, and secularism is evident in Renaissance
artists works, specifically Michelangelo s David and van Eyck s The Madonna of Chancellor
Rolin. Humanists of the Italian Renaissance worked to understand human nature by studying classic

Use Of Dynamic Second Price Auctions
The popular use of dynamic second price auctions such as Ebay seem to be the favoured output for
Internet based online transactions, and have triggered a wide interest in understanding how
individuals behave in such environments. Online auctions are services in which individuals sell or
bid for products or facilities via the internet. They facilitate interactions between buyers and sellers
in different locations and allow for individuals to purchase items from the comfort of their own
homes. However, such interactions can lead to psychological and physiological responses that

The volumes of research on the endowment effect have all been based on cases where the seller
has unambiguous physical or legal possession of the item in question. In connecting ownership
and its effects on valuations with online bidding behavior, it is possible that even without a legal
claim on an item, high bidders could develop a feeling of ownership during the period of time
when they are the highest bidders, leading to changes in valuation similar to those brought about
by true ownership The use of pictures allows bidders to fantasize about owning the product, and
makes it appear more real especially when they are lead bidder. Having a money back guarantee
increases the trust between consumer and seller which can then influence bidding behaviour. This
guarantee can decrease inhibitions in the buyers which means that it is more likely bids will
increase in amount due to the ability to send the item back. This may cause bidders to extend their
intended maximum bid in order to win the item, rather than thinking about the consequences of
bidding higher amounts at the time. Certification of product ensures that the explicit risk of buying
an item over the internet is reduced, which could therefore lead to consumers bidding more.
Indirect quality indicators include the use of a minimum bid and a Buy It Now price which may
reveal information about the quality of the product as they reveal the values imposed

suggests that BA is most effective when front loaded. Consuming 4 to 6g per day, preferably with
meals has demonstrated the maximum desired effect, with more significant benefits seen after four
weeks (Harris, et al., 2009; Stegen, et al., 2013). Some clinicians, however, maintain that oral
administration is minimally effective. A 2016 study by Sharpe, Macias demonstrated a definite
improvement in performance in short duration, high intensity exercise by athletes using a topical
gel to administer carnosine transdermally. The study does maintain that more testing does need to
be done, however, brings up scientific reasons why oral ingestion may be less efficient due to GI
damage to the supplement. The purpose of this literature review is to provide insight into the
effects of beta alanine in performance. The research demonstrates that BA ingestion is, in fact,
beneficial to athletic performance, with a significant portion of data showing it is more efficient in
shorter duration, moderate to high intensity activities lasting 60 to 240 seconds specifically.

Freudian Slip Essay
Introduction
Freudian slip theory was originally created by Sigmund Freud. He was an Austrian neurologist and
was better known as the founder of psychoanalysis (1856 1939). Psychoanalysis can be defined as
a set of psychological theories which includes the Freudian slip theory. He believed that everyone
possess an unconscious mind, feelings, desires and memories in their lifetime. It is to be said that
peoples will bring their unconscious content on their mind to their conscious awareness and people
will be able to experience catharsis and gain insight into their current state of mind. (Cherry, What is
Psychoanalysis?, 2016)
Freud s theory of slips of the tongue and pen Sigmund Freud theory is formed based on peoples
brings the unconscious thoughts to conscious self. Freudian slip is the Hint of the Unconscious.
(Cherry, What is a Freudian Slip?, 2015) A Freudian slip also known as a parapraxis, is an error
of speech and memory or physical action which Freud stated was a result of interference of self
own unconsciousness wish, desire, conflict or train of thought. Freud believed errors of all types
were revealing. It acted like a defense mechanisms and errors come in many varieties. Freudian slips
are errors of language such as word substitutions and mispronunciations. ... Show more content on

If prayer was God s Idea, then it would stand to reason that He would make it simple enough for
us to understand. Even though it is simple, the reasons why so many people never walk in it are
vast. This is not something that I got out of a book, or made up. It s something God showed me
through the Holy Spirit, so please read with an open mind and meditate on what you read.
Step #1 The Power Within:
God is able to do exceeding, abundantly, above all that we ask or think, according to the power
that works in us. Most people think that God can do whatever He wants to do, but according to
this verse, it all depends upon a power that is at work in us. To understand that power we need to
look at a couple of verses before this one. Paul prayed the following:
That He (God) would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might,
through His Spirit, in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you,
being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the

influential technology in IT world which provides many facilities and increases the capability of
our system without any extra hardware installment. So this paper focuses on the fault tolerance
of web application by one of the major cloud service provider Amazon. We will provide the ways
on the process adopted by Amazon and how we can improve the existing techniques of fault
tolerance. We provide the detail infrastructure of the Amazon Web application design. Also the
important part covered in this paper is the computation done in cloud computing. As it is required
that the computation should be in complete secure way and also doesn t get infected by malicious
and faulty cloud. So we define the ways to employ the method and how to distribute the data to
different clouds. We will demonstrate this using the calculation of matrix multiplication. I

Paulo Freire
In novel, chapter 2 of Pedagogy of The Oppressed written by Paulo Freire we are introduced to two
educational concepts. Freire refers to the concepts as the banking concept and problem posing
concept. The banking concept is the assumption that the teacher controls and fills students with
selected information. Freire believes It is the people themselves who are filled away through lack of
creativity, transformation, and knowledge in this misguided system (Freire 1). On the other hand
Freire believes that the soulution to the educationsystem is problem posing. This concept
encourgaes studentdialogue, creativity, and discovery. Meaning that the student is free and in
control of his education. I believe Freire decribition of the banking concept is unconsintent. A
teacher goal is not to control and fill students with memorization. Instead, the goal is to expand a
student mind with critical information that sometimes needs memorization such as math equations,
history, science, and vocabulary.

Pros And Cons Of Canadian Broadcasting
Necessities of Canadian Broadcasting
Listen to the radio, heard of CBC? The CBC stands for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
The first government run radio station was created in 1936 in Ottawa, Canada. . It was created by
the government for Canadians. The purpose of the radio station was to spread and share news
across Canada. The government created other groups as well for more coverage, for example NFB,
CRTC, and the Canada Council. Presently, the groups still provide plenty of Canadian content.
They preserve the Canadian identity, they preserve Canadian content, and they provide Canadian
coverage of sports and news. Overall these networks are still necessary and useful in Canada to this
day.
The Canadian Radio Televisions Telecommunications... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without these numerous Canadian channels Canada would have to rely more on American
channels. With Canadian watching more American channels it would allow for less Canadian
content to be shown and therefore more Canadians would be viewing American content. With
more American coverage and less Canadian coverage it could mean important Canadian events
and activities may not be covered. Channels like the CBC are responsible for showing Canadian
sports such as the how Canada is doing in the NHL or the Olympics. As well as the CBC shows
Canadian news and important event that are happening to Canadians in Canada. Canada and
America are close distantly but both countries have very different viewpoints. These views on the
world are shared between countries via television and radio and if Canadians were to see more
American news they may develop a new way to see Canada and may want to start changing the
country. With that it could mean a loss of Canadian culture, beliefs and principles. Canada has
built itself up on being multicultural and America is not known for its beliefs in being diverse.
With the country seeing negative views on innocent people it may lead to issues in Canada later
on. America is known for its very popular music and a lot of American music is played and
adored by Canadians but because of the CRTC Canadians will be able to experience the Canadian
culture and these stations help provide that. With the culture is also a Canadian pride of the content
made in the country. Without the CRTC there would be a lack of Canadian artists and many people
would not know as many Canadian artists that came from Canada. Canadian artists have been and
are being seen because of these channels and stations that highlight the artist s abilities. Overall
these stations have been

The goal of this framework is not only to reduce the number of lives lost as a result of various
disasters but also to reduce the economic, social and environmental losses to communities. Nurses
and midwives are viewed by WHO (2007) as being essential in response to a disaster, but also
notes that the lack of training provided for dealing with disasters as a major flaw in the disaster and
emergency response worldwide. Therefore, it is essential that all nurses and midwives are trained in
disaster nursing and meet these competencies just like any other competencies they are required to
meet, in order to be effective when disaster strikes. Geebie and Qureshi (2002) explain how they
believe that disaster nursing requires individuals to use their nursing knowledge and skills in
difficult situations with limited resources and ever changing conditions. During these difficult
times it is essential that nurses can adapt their practice to be disaster specific in order to minimise
life threatening damage and health hazards caused by the disaster. Jennings Sanders, Frisch amp;
Wing (2005) demonstrate that nurses, other healthcare professionals, emergency services, and both
non governmental and governmental organizations must work in collaboration during these
situations in order for the best outcome to prevail. It is essential in a disaster situation that nurses
involved in the care of patients must be able to shift their

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy
Solution Focused Brief Therapy Introduction Solution focused Brief therapy is a postmodern,
constructivist advancement that uniquely focuses on the resolution of the concerns of the client.
It mainly puts an emphasis on facilitating the clients by identifying and prioritizing the solutions.
In short, the solution focused approach is founded on the ground that change can occur over a
brief period of time (Hepworth et.al, 2010). Solution focused Brief Therapy can be represented
by three principal components: Making use of dialogue centered on the apprehensions, concerns,
and fears of the clients Employment of conversations that mainly focus on the co construction of
new denotations that encircle the concerns of the clients Making use of and utilizing certain
techniques for being of assistance to clients in order to enable them co create an image of an
ideal future and to draw upon precedent successes and strengths for their issues resolution
(Franklin et.al, 2012) To cut a long story short, the therapists who practice Solution focused Brief
Therapy follow a very effortless but useful rule i.e. finding out what works and doing more of it
(Kaslow, Massey Massey, 2002). Thus, Solution focused Brief Therapy is really valuable, useful
and efficient as it deals with a good number of problems that clients come up with. It encourages
and offers its clients new ways of thinking regarding their matters. The immediate problems faced
by the clients are solved when they are

An Anti Climax
I have been practicing this skill during the summer and continue to do it in the future. If time
permits, I will work with a staff in the Global Communication Center several times to address
this problem before the submission of the revised paper. The paper limps to an end. Pages 40 44
are an anti climax mired in too much detail. I recommend that you eliminate most of the
discussion there. As I noted in the margins, these last pages should be devoted to summing up
your argument, discussing the significance of your findings, and pointing to the next stage in
your research. I admit that this part is redundant, but there may be other options than deleting all
of them. In order to keep the story intact, I need to emphasize that the progress of technology in
the 2000s is essential to meet the accelerated flow of remains from North Korea since the mid
1990s and the new sources of remains from the Punchbowl cemetery. I will still present the number
of soldiers identified in each year as well as the interpretation of the increasing efficiency in
identification after 2005 from the angles of improved technology and funding. Thus, much
information on Page 40 and 41 will still exist in the revised version though some minutia, like
irrelevant numbers or technical details, will be expunged. The information on Page 42 to 44 needs
significant revision. I will shorten the story of the reorganization of the military personnel
accounting agencies to a great degree, just leaving the main

Catherine the Great of Russia
I shall be an autocrat: that s my trade. And the good lord will forgive me: that s his ( Catherine
II: quote on leadership ). In history there have been many good examples of good and powerful
leaders. A person who exemplifies good leadership; protects one s nation, is a strong speaker and
communicator, is confident, and can organize a well developed government system. Catherine the
second, was a Russian ruler. She was ultimately one of the most powerfulest rulers. Many believe
that Catherine ruled during a period, in which was considered by many, a golden age for Russia. A
golden age is when a civilization has reached a period of peace, unity, prosperity, and
achievements. In the year 1762, Catherine was crowned Empress of Russia. Catherine s motive of
ruling Russia, was to make it a powerful union by spreading and expanding education, and making a
national culture. Despite many failures such as not improving the lives of serfs, who were the
majority of the Russian population and it has been said by many that she ruled through dishonesty
and scandal, Catherine the Great was ultimately a successful leader of Russia. Due to the wonderful
accomplishments she made and all of the admiration she received from the people, therefore earned
the powerful title of Catherine the Great ( Prominent Russians: Catherine II the Great ). Although
she never accepted the title of Catherine the Great, she

The disease usually affects the elderly, people 65 and older, but 200,000 of the Americans living
with Alzheimer s today are younger than 65. One in ten people over 65 have Alzheimer s,
making this disease common. African Americans are almost twice more likely to develop a
form of dementia than older Caucasians. Hispanics are one and a half times more likely to
develop Alzheimer s disease than Caucasians. Most cases of Alzheimer s are caused from a
mutation in one of the APP, PSEN1, or PSEN2 genes. When one of these three genes are
reformed, a toxic fragment called amyloid beta peptides is created in the brain. The peptide will
then produce clumps in the brain, called amyloid plaques, which is a characteristic of Alzheimer s
disease. An accumulation of toxic amyloid plaques will most likely cause death to the nerve cells
and show symptoms of the disease. This mutation carries on from parent to child, making the
disease hereditary. Researchers say that people with Down syndrome have a high risk of
developing Alzheimer s

Comparing Shakespeare s Hamlet and Marlowe of Conrad s...
Comparing Shakespeare s Hamlet and Marlowe of Conrad s Heart of Darkness Prince Hamlet,
of Shakespeare s famed tragedy, and Marlowe of Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness, are similarly
situated characters. Despite superficially different settings and plots, there is a remarkably similar
thematic element shared between both works. Prince Hamlet and Marlowe are brought to the very
brink of insanity by their immersion in worlds gone mad, yet still succeed. At their roots, the
similarities of the environments they are immersed in are remarkable. Whether their environment is

Not only are the natures and causes of the evil present in both Hamlet and Heart of Darkness
remarkably similar, but also each character s introduction to it. Interestingly, Prince Hamlet and
Marlowe share a certain naГЇvetГ© when they first come upon their evils. Hamlet returns home
after hearing of his father s death from studies in Wittenberg, not yet knowing the cause of his
death. Marlowe sets off from Brussels to explore a blank space...a place of darkness (1618), with
an innocent childhood dream to explore the reaches of civilization. Neither man could have known
the immense corruption and evil that awaited them at their destination, but both would quickly
learn. Hamlet returns to Denmark to quickly find that a hasty incestuous marriage between his
widowed mother and his uncle would all too quickly follow his own father s funeral. Perhaps the
most significant sign that all was not right in Denmark was the apparition of the slain former
King. Hamlet s father s apparition is viewed by Hamlet and his company as an open sign that
something is rotten in the state of Denmark (1068). From this first revelation, Hamlet learns by
degrees of the evil that attempts to hide itself behind the legitimate passing on of the throne.
Hamlet gets a first glimpse of the evil in the appearance of the restless soul of his father, later, more
so with that ghost s revelation of the murderous truth to Hamlet, up until Hamlet s own observation

Social and Economic Development in Colonial Virginia in...
The seventeenth century marked the start of great colonization and immigration to the New World
that was North America. Mainly in on the eastern coast of what is now the United States, England
established colonies on this new land to thrive socially and economically. The English government
readily sent its citizens to America to exploit its abundant source of raw materials and the English
people exponentially came to the colonies to start a new life for themselves and to thrive socially.

The land became rapidly exploited and cultivated to produce tobacco. After the establishment of
this cash crop, tobacco was glorified and largely advertised in both the colonies and England. As
well as its large cultivation of tobacco, its connection to what became known as the Chesapeake
Bay served as a prominent economic aspect to Virginia. By mid century, the establishment of
indentured servants had been regulated and used frequently by plantation owners. This being a
prominent factor to Virginia s social development, its downfall and rise of slavery also played a
prime role in social transformation. Bacon s Rebellion in 1676 was the first rebellion in the
colonies and it largely resulted in the hardening of racial lines with slavery. The plantation owners
and farmers now saw it as a dangerous asset to have white indentured servants as workers and also
saw having slaves as a much higher profit. By the establishment of the Virginia colony and its use
of producing the tobacco cash crop, boatloads of slaves were brought to work and profit the upper
class plantation owners. What became known as the Middle Passage became nothing more to the
white upper class than profit and population increase. At the end of the seventeenth century, it was
established that 40,000 people lived in Virginia however the number of slaves brought to the colony
was unknown. With the progression within the

  • 2. Evaluation Of The Wheaton Sanitary District The Wheaton Sanitary District is already using a state of the art monitoring system to track status and record the measurement of the key plant operational equipment. The Supervisory Control and Data Access (SCADA) system interfaced with the plant equipment provides, the operation team, a real time data on the key components of the plant s equipment. SCADA allows operational team to open, close or adjust equipment parameters to archive maximum efficiency to meet the peak demand. According to Russell and Taylor (2014), the size and complexity of the problem makes the decision making often difficult. Further, the flow is controlled by a bottleneck, so any resource should spend no time on non productive activities, but must have material to work on to overcome the theory of constrain and the focus should be of automation efforts. SCADA does allow automation and the data collected from SCADA helps aeration optimization for scheduling which will ultimately reflect any capacity limitations. The new high energy turbo blowers save 30% energy to mix and aerate the tanks (Poole, Neighbors, Green, Baert, Sosnowski, and Wold, 2012) and the control flow provides additional saving with no additional capital cost. The real time monitoring and the dissolved oxygen (D.O.) measuring in the aeration tanks allows a development of a new plant control strategies to optimize the system performance thus consuming less power. This policy has the support of several propionate organizations such as the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the American Medical Association (AMA) (Office of National Drug Control Policy 2014). Despite these facts, Medical Marijuana is currently legal in 23 States and the District of Columbia (Procon.org 2014). Based on this understanding the argument has been made that the use of medical marijuana is protected under the American Disabilities Act (ADA). The reasoning behind this is that medical marijuana allows individuals with certain debilitating conditions to function and maintain a reasonable quality of life. • 6. Tiger Sharks-Personal Narrative I muttered swear words under my breath as I finally made it into the doors of work. Usually I m never late, but I got caught up with an excellent argumentative article on tiger sharks. Morning Mike... you don t look prepared. Alysha greeted bluntly. Yeah, got caught up in an article. I admitted, trying to fix the wrinkles in my un ironed blue shirt. Ohhh, you should tell me about it later, when you look presentable. She insulted. Damn her. I gave a tired nod before turning my attention to Mr. Harland who was about to begin speaking. Good morning everyone, I hope you re ready for the day. Today we re seperating into three groups: Danielle will have a group of you here in the office typing up reports to upload onto our website, Jake here will lead a group of you over to the reserve to clean the tanks and feed the animals, and lastly, Alysha and Michael will lead a group... No matter how snappy that woman gets, I could never actually bring myself to hate her. Who could, really. She meets my intellectual level, and we keep each other in check. I get her and she gets me, which is why we work so well together on a team. Beauty with a brain, I like to describe her. Our group was small. It consisted of Amie, William, and two other girls named Roly and Veronica. One by one, our cars pulled into the aquarium parking lot to find a space suitable for our wheels. Once done, we came together in front of the deep blue building. Ready? Alysha asked, throwing her blonde hair behind her as we started into the building. Parents are having their infants ski the day after they learn how to walk. Young children are learning how to play a variety of sports so they can figure out what they want their varsity letter in during high school. The problem is that these children are learning how to play the sport but they are not being taught the correct way to prepare their bodies for the sport. People may say that because younger children are not at the competitive level of sports they do not need proper warm up and cool down exercises. • 8. Compare And Contrast The Santa Ana And Brush Fire Different Things People can look at the same situations and see different things. In Brush Fire by Linda Thomas and The Santa Ana by Joan Didion, both writers are writing about the same situation however, the texts are both vastly different. Both essays are written about the Santa Ana winds, which is a wind that blows through both southern and northern California. The message of Brush Fire by Linda Thomas is that the Santa Ana winds are more of an event that happens yearly that causes many great effects on the earth that outway the bad. Nevertheless, in The Santa Ana by Joan Didion the message is that the Santa Ana is a horrid occurrence that happens each year that only brings a string of negative effects with it. The writers take a completely different approach, trying to describe the subject. The author s writing style divert from each other through the use of style elements, rhetorical and literary devices, as well as rhetorical appeals. The Santa Ana and Brush Fire have several similarities and differences in style elements. The Santa Ana and Brush Fire differ in the use of syntax. In The Santa Ana, Didion uses more complex syntax with longer sentences and the text overall is longer. Dissimilar from Brush Fire, in which Thomas uses a simpler syntax that has much shorter and concise sentences. The Santa Ana also uses antithesis repeatedly, which establishes a juxtaposition, this shows the good and bad of the situation. Thomas s sentences are shorter and more fact based which gets more to the point faster and shorter. However, Didion s sentences are longer and more opinion and has a more personal feel than, Brush Fire. The diction in The Santa Ana and Brush Fire differ vastly. Thomas uses a more dark diction uses words like words like murder, suicide, and depression. Unlike, Didion who has a more reflective diction and uses words like return , will be , new , and cancels out . Both The Santa Ana and Brush Fire use a heavy use of imagery. In The Santa Ana Didion not only describes the Santa Ana winds, but also describes other winds that are similar. Didion compares the winds to show the negative effects that both winds have on the people. An example of this is The Santa Ana,which is named for one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Silanoin The sculpture was made during the Late Classical Period, which was the era that had an increased motion in expressive art during the 4th century. The sculptors of the 4th century Late Classical period developed Classical sculpture from idealized, life like, stoic statues to depicting narratives and figures in less ideal states (Boundless, 2015). This period begins with the ending of the High Classical Period and with the start and end of the Peloponnesian Warfrom 431 to 404 BCE leaving Spartavictorious. Thebes also undertook the role of leadership which unfortunately did not do so well with Greece, which had weakened the state land, suffering such a loss that the citizens of Greece eventually gave up themselves to the Macedonian King, Phillip... Born in Athens, Greece in 428 BCE, Plato had limits of primary sources to use while growing up, so in place of that he was always surrounded by scholars and historians which shows an emphasis within his own writings (Biography). The curriculum he would have been taught was a range from Cratylus, Pythagoras, and even Parmenides. It is believed that these teachings have had a great influence of Plato s study of metaphysics and epistemology (Biography). His parents were to be very important figures as well. His father was Ariston, who was a descendent from the kings of Athens and Messenia, and his mother Perictione, who is believed to be related to Solon, who was a Greek statesmen in 6th Century BCE. As Plato got older he experienced two events that changed his life before he knew it which were meeting his teacher Socrates, the great Greek philosopher, and the Peloponnesian War where Plato himself was a part of for five years. Soon after the war ended, Plato had considered to uphold a career in politics, but sadly the death of his mentor turned him away from the idea and decided to turn to his profession he continued to do throughout his lifetime, which is to study life and philosophy. He traveled to several parts of Italy and Egypt for 12 years, searching and studying forms of mathematics and astronomy and the different ways human kind perceive to what they believe life is. • 10. Nixon Checkers Speech Richard Nixon Checkers Speech On September 23, 1952 Richard Milhous Nixon sat down to address the largest television audience ever amassed by a politician this was no ordinary political speech. Nixon s future in politics was on the line. In one speech Nixon had the daunting task of not only clearing his name of the allegation that he had received illegal campaign funds, but he also had to present himself as a viable asset to the Republican ticket. Nixon bared his heart to the American people, and in turn was applauded for his honesty and good character. Nixon s speech was met with nearly unanimous acceptance and praise. But, audience acceptance alone is not what makes a speech unforgettable or worth writing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The purpose of Nixon s speech must also be examined in order to make a comprehensive analysis of the speech. In his autobiography Nixon described the three criteria his speech must meet in order to convey his purpose: (1) [it must] answer the immediate attack by explaining and defending the fund, (2) ward off further allegations by showing that he did not accrue personal profit, and (3) launch a political counterattack (176). Nixon used these guide lining principles to steer his way in the short 48 hour period he had to compose his speech. The principal way these purposes were achieved was through the application of the three Aristotelian modes of proof: ethos, pathos and logos (Cathcart 45). The primary Aristotelian proof Nixon used to appeal to his audience was ethos, or credibility. In a sense, the purpose of the Checkers Speech was to reaffirm Nixon s status as a reputable politician the public could put their faith in. Robert Cathcart more precisely defined ethos as the image that receivers have of the communicator as an expert source with a capacity for leadership and decision making and as one who can be trusted . Nixon s credibility was gone as far as the American public was concerned until he cleared his name of the allegations he had used $16,000 of private funds given to him by outside donors. • 11. Tilted Arc The Destruction of Public Art Tilted Arc (Figure 1) was brought down on the 15th of March of 1989 by the General Services Administration (GSA) in the centre of New York s federal plaza. Tilted Arc was a site specific work of a curved steel wall or barrier, that was 120 feet long and 12 feet high, with an arch that gave the effect of the wall leaning inwards. The GSA commissioned Richard Serra to build a sculpturefor the Art in Architecture program that would be placed in the plaza in front of the Jacob K Davits Federal building. The work was set up in 1981 and received a few critical comments. However, it was only when William Diamond, an appointee GSA New York Regional Administrator, started to investigate a bit more that he created substantial arguments against the sculpture to try and relocate it. Tilted Arc then became a controversial piece of work that involved the art world and major associations and resulted in a lawsuit and public hearing in 1985. The main issues that surrounded the controversy relate to the way in which the space was transformed, the rights of the artist, and censorship. In addition, we must question the role of public artin society, if certain works should be considered public art, and the ways in which power and politics can influence the arts. Richard Serra is... In Street Art: The Transfiguration of the Commonplaces, Nicholas Arden Riggle claims that the experience of seeing public art is different as the setting of a work can change the perception of the spectator. I believe Spanish music holds many values when it comes to different occasions. The musiccan manipulate the minds of its listeners using love, passion, and outstanding rhythms. After reading an article online, I can explain how three different genres of traditional Mexican music influence people s culture. The genre that most people know Mexican music by is Mariachi. Mariachi is usually played at birthday parties, quinceaГ±eras, and any other social gathering. In a Mariachi band, the member s attire consists of a Charro suit and sombrero. The result of this may be that some parents, thinking that attachment parenting is too consuming and also because western society has a need for independence and separation, may then look for alternative methods that do not involve any form of attachment methods . The purpose of researching these theories is to gather information about attachment theory for those involved to make informed decisions that do not involve a speciп¬Ѓc parenting philosophy that may not suit their family s needs. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Freud believed that infants develop maternal relationships because mothers feed them and satisfy their hunger. However, animal studies have provided evidence that feeding does not necessarily explain the attachment. In fact, experiments have found that infant rhesus monkeys raised in an isolated environment preferred the contact with a comfortable cloth covered surrogate mother, even while feeding from the nourishing wire surrogate mother, demonstrating that the basis for attachment relationships does not reside solely in feeding. These experiments also found that the ones raised by simulated mothers were scared when placed alone in foreign situations. Another expert, Erik Erikson, proposed an eight stage psychosocial development process. In his theory, each stage involves a task that must be completed if infants are to successfully move to the next stage. The initial stage of Trust versus mistrust in psychosocial development arises in the first year of life. During this stage infants need to develop a sense of trust in themselves and in the world around them. The infant depends on the parents, with an emphasis on the mother, for nourishment. Their relative interpretation of world and society stems from the parent child interaction. If the parents expose the child to consistency, and steady affection, the child s perception will be that of trust. However, if parents fail to provide a safe environment that meets ... • 16. An Analysis Of Ex-Basketball By John Updike Updike s poem, Ex Basketball , is a poem that remembers the heyday of Flick, while at the same time illustrating a descriptive picture for the reader. He commences with a description of a journey down a street that could represent Flick s life; full of turns and promises but dead ends because of a lack of training. Moreover, John Updike composes this poem with figurative language, correct diction, and imagination using valuable elements to create an excellent effect on the tone and meaning of this poetic style poem. I could say that the theme of Ex basketballfocuses on the fact that if one does not work hard on achieving their goals, they will not succeed in reaching their dream. In fact, the outcome of not reaching your goals can lead to frustration and disappointment in life. Evidently, Flick shows a reflection of people who once were successful in sports when he was in high school, but has drastically different future than one might think. To be able to understand the poem, Updike starts by saying Pearl Avenue runs past the high school lot which serves as a metaphor describing pathways highlighting the best and past in Flick achievements. In addition, he is providing the reader with a specific and vivid description to a journey, traveling in mind to a certain place and setting of the poem. Also, when he states Bends with the trolley tracks, and stops, cut off ; he is sending the message that Flick s glory days have vanished right after high school. Accordingly, leading the way abruptly to Berth Garage can be interpreted as the gas station where more likely Flick works his entire life. With all this uttered, the speaker is provoking a feeling of nostalgia, creating a connection to the poem s meaning. The Speaker of the poem segues into Flick working at the gas station with Flick standing around, waiting to help out. In my opinion Flick stands tall among the idiot pumps indicates that Flick standing tall and with pride near the pumps. However, Flick s skills are evidence of his intelligence, which seems to be higher than everyone else at the gas station making him look great, but alone and at the same time converting himself as his own team player. Studies of people enduring extreme situations suggest that learning is a key to survival in adversity (Williamson 2000). Successful learning is supposed to occur when conditions are right: accessible opportunities, time, appropriate support, safety, motivation, risks with manageable consequences (ibid.). Yet in extreme situations, learning must take place quickly and without the right conditions. What is learned in response to trauma is influenced by prior knowledge, background, familial and social relationships, and personal qualities and abilities (Pearce 1999; Williamson 2000). Claude Debussy Claude Debussy also known as Achille Claude Debussy has been one of the most influential composers of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Debussy was born into a middle class family being the son of a shopkeeper and a seamstress and the oldest of his five siblings. Debussy began his career at the Paris Conservatory at the very young age of 11. During his studies, he met the wealthy Nadezhda von Meck, a patroness of Tchaikovsky, who employed him to be the music teacher to her son Nikolai von Meck. In 1884, when Debussy was 22 years old, he entered his cantata L Enfant prodigy also known as The Prodigal Child in the Prix de Rome, a worldwide competition for composers. Debussy took home the top prize, which allowed him to study for up to three years in the Italian capital studying at the Villa Medici. Unfortunately, he returned to Paris after only two years. While he was in Rome, he studied the music of German composer Richard Wagner. Wagner s influence on Debussy was profound and lasting, but despite this, Debussy shied away from the ostentation of Wagner s opera in his works. That means the author must understand the differences between audiences, genres, and formal versus informal writing. For instance, while writing a movie review, the author assumes the reader has not seen the movie. Therefore, to be able to reach the intended audience, the author must summarize the movie s plot and specific scenes to familiarize the reader before they reveal why they liked or disliked the film. Outcome One is important because if one does not take their audience into account, it can produce inconsistencies that lead the audience to be confused on the paper s intended purpose. It was hypothesised that the solution at 80 degrees C and the greatest concentration of reactants would result in the fastest rates of reaction and reaction time. This was because of the scientific reasoning that at larger temperatures and concentrations atomic particles collide with greater energy and more frequently. The data collected from the experiment supports the hypothesis. It was observed that the largest concentration of reactants, 0.2M and 0.5M, had the highest reaction rateof 0.00484 mol/L/s, and quickest induction phase, 1 second. Also, the slowest reaction time was 21.51 seconds and was the reaction between KIO3 at 0.05M and Na2S2O5 at 0.125M, which were the smallest amounts of reactant. In addition, the highest temperature tested, which was 80 degrees, produced the fastest reaction time with 4.58 seconds, while 70 degrees ranked close behind in second. These results align with previous data and theories, which state that as temperature and concentration rise, the time it takes to react generally decreases and the reaction rate increases (Wilbraham, 2002), (UC Davis, n.d.). From the testing and results several major trends and relationships were discovered. The first observation, which supports the hypothesis, is the relationship between concentration of reactants and reaction rate. As concentration increased, the reaction rate also increased in direct proportion. This was shown by the results because when the concentrations doubled, from 0.1M and 0.125M to ... This area is very poor and revolves around gang violence, sex and drug dealing. That s correct, you guessed it right! It s the infamous Compton. The city that everyone has heard in the news or in a song at one point or another. This definition was taken from Urban Dictionary, a site that allows anyone to define specific words and terms. It is easy to see that Compton is often related with drugs, crime and gangs, but the general public fails to realize the truth behind the suburb. Tiny Compton, in response, made a large mistake by raising their property and school taxes and they did a fantastic job at this and exceeded almost all other L.A towns during the time. Yikes. Fortunately, this did not stop people from relocating there during World War II. Schools became so crowded, understaffed and obtained an inadequate amount of resources making it evident that the system was failing. When the schools funding became nearly forty percent from local tax payer s dollars in the mid sixties and early seventies, many fled the scene and moved to an area with lower taxes, but the blacks remained. At this point, Compton was termed as the Black Beverly Hills , but this all began to go downhill after the riots in 1965. Drug and juvenile arrests reached an all time high during the 1960 s and in 1969, the city had the highest crime rate in the state of California. In Taking Compton National , written by Ryan Reft, he states, Shootings occurred at Compton and Dominguez High Schools in 1972, the same year the suburb ranked second in reported homicides in Los Angeles County beating out Long Beach, a city five times the size of Compton (Reft). • 36. Compare And Contrast Italian And Renaissance Art Anna Jacoby AP European History Ms. Sennett September 2017 Italian vs. Northern Renaissance Art During the Renaissance, the people of Europe experienced a rebirth of culture and study of classical antiquity. New ideas arose that transformed every aspect of European life. Beginning in Italy, the Renaissance spread northward to the rest of Europe. Italy had the advantage of not being hit by the Black Death or the Hundred Years War, in comparison to the rest of Europe, and therefore was able to trade to Asia and maintain prosperous cities during the Middle Ages. The Italians, as a result, had merchants who were proud of their success in business, which they believed was possible because of their merit as an individual. The merchants were able to fuel the Renaissance in Italy by commissioning artists and writers to produce specific works. Northern Europe still needed to recover from the Black Death and Hundred Years War to gain political and economic stability to have a Renaissance. While both the Italians and Northern Europeans went through a Renaissance, they experienced the Renaissance differently, and the similarities and differences between their experiences in terms of how they each developed the ideals of humanism, individualism, and secularism is evident in Renaissance artists works, specifically Michelangelo s David and van Eyck s The Madonna of Chancellor Rolin. Use Of Dynamic Second Price Auctions The popular use of dynamic second price auctions such as Ebay seem to be the favoured output for Internet based online transactions, and have triggered a wide interest in understanding how individuals behave in such environments. Online auctions are services in which individuals sell or bid for products or facilities via the internet. They facilitate interactions between buyers and sellers in different locations and allow for individuals to purchase items from the comfort of their own homes. However, such interactions can lead to psychological and physiological responses that trigger reactions and actions which in turn can lead to irrational and uncharacteristic bidding behaviour by buyers. The volumes of research on the endowment effect have all been based on cases where the seller has unambiguous physical or legal possession of the item in question. In connecting ownership and its effects on valuations with online bidding behavior, it is possible that even without a legal claim on an item, high bidders could develop a feeling of ownership during the period of time when they are the highest bidders, leading to changes in valuation similar to those brought about by true ownership The use of pictures allows bidders to fantasize about owning the product, and makes it appear more real especially when they are lead bidder. Having a money back guarantee increases the trust between consumer and seller which can then influence bidding behaviour. This guarantee can decrease inhibitions in the buyers which means that it is more likely bids will increase in amount due to the ability to send the item back. This may cause bidders to extend their intended maximum bid in order to win the item, rather than thinking about the consequences of bidding higher amounts at the time. Certification of product ensures that the explicit risk of buying an item over the internet is reduced, which could therefore lead to consumers bidding more. Indirect quality indicators include the use of a minimum bid and a Buy It Now price which may reveal information about the quality of the product as they reveal the values imposed ... Since the first human study in 2006, BA is commonly found in most popular pre workout supplements on the market today (Trexler, et al., 2015). BA is a naturally occurring amino acid produced in the liver. BA is also contained in animal proteins such as turkey and beef, and therefore can be increased somewhat through the consumption of animal protein. Significant increases, however, require various means of supplementation. Beta alanine has been cited as a rate limiting precursor to carnosine synthesis (Harris, et al., 2006). Additional roles of carnosine beyond Ca2+ regulation and pH buffer include its ability to act as a scavenger of free radicals and singlet oxygen, both of which are not only damaging, but also limit performance (Kohen, et al.,1988). Regarding BA supplementation and administration, there has been some opposing views on which means of supplementation is most beneficial. Some research suggests that BA is most effective when front loaded. Consuming 4 to 6g per day, preferably with meals has demonstrated the maximum desired effect, with more significant benefits seen after four weeks (Harris, et al., 2009; Stegen, et al., 2013). Some clinicians, however, maintain that oral administration is minimally effective. A 2016 study by Sharpe, Macias demonstrated a definite improvement in performance in short duration, high intensity exercise by athletes using a topical gel to administer carnosine transdermally. The study does maintain that more testing does need to be done, however, brings up scientific reasons why oral ingestion may be less efficient due to GI damage to the supplement. The purpose of this literature review is to provide insight into the effects of beta alanine in performance. The research demonstrates that BA ingestion is, in fact, beneficial to athletic performance, with a significant portion of data showing it is more efficient in shorter duration, moderate to high intensity activities lasting 60 to 240 seconds specifically. ... On the other hand Freire believes that the soulution to the educationsystem is problem posing. This concept encourgaes studentdialogue, creativity, and discovery.
