Zombie Apocalypse Short Story
Karlee Danielson
The gruesome zombie apocalypse had broken out three days ago, and everyone was in full panic
mode as we tried to figure out what to do next. We have to evacuate the town immediately!
shouted the mayor. Everyone suddenly went quiet, all eyes on the mayor. Then suddenly there
was a loud BANG! And the sound of glass shattering made everyone turn and look towards the
door. Then we realized what was happening. The deadly zombies had made it to Leedey and
were now invading the building! I grabbed my three closest friends and we all looked at each
other frantically with no idea what to do. I noticed an air vent just about big enough for me to fit
in it. We all climbed in the small, dingy, vent and crawled around until we found an opening
going to the outside of the building. After we checked to make sure the coast was clear, we
crawled out and tried not to panic while trying to figure out what to do next. We spotted some
four wheelers parked on the side of the building and all quickly jumped on one. The first thing we
decided to do is to go get our sisters, who were at the school. We arrived at the school and the
zombies hadn t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The group all agreed that we should keep moving and try and find some food. A little while later
we arrived at the river, hoping and praying that we would find something to eat or drink. We
were driving up the bank of the river when I spotted something shiny behind a few of the trees. I
pulled up closer and figured out that there was a bunch of supplies and food! I yelled at the
others to come over and see what I had found. We all got off our vehicles and started rading
through the pile of stuff. We found quite a few weapons, a bunch of tasty food, and a water filter
device. After a quick snack we started thinking about what to do next. We all came to an agreement
and decided that we should camp out another night and then head out in the

What Happens When You Put The Wrong Fuels In Car Essay
What Happens When You Put the Wrong Fuel in Your Car?
Uh oh, you stopped to get gas and put the wrong type of fuel in your car! What do you do next,
and will your car be okay? This is a mistake that many people have made, though no one likes to
admit it. Read on to figure out what to do if you have a fuel mix up, and how you can prevent
serious damage to your engine.
Diesel in a Gas Vehicle
When you pulled up to the gas station all of the pumps were full but one. You pulled up to the
pump, filled up and then noticed that you were using the diesel pump! Gas cars can t run on
diesel and will stop running once they ve used up any gas that is left in the tank since they can t
combust diesel. Luckily, putting diesel in a gas car isn t the end of your car, but there are a few
steps you have to follow to prevent damage. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you re already driving, pull over in a safe place and turn off the car. Next you ll want to call a
mechanic, as your car will need to have both the fuel tank and fuel lines drained to prevent
damage. Once the tank and lines have been drained, fill your car up with regular gas and you
should be ready to go again.
If you visit the mechanic right away, it is likely that your car will not sustain any permanent
damages. Getting the lines and tank drained may cost you though, with the fix costing anywhere
from $500 to over $1000 according to autoguide.com, plus the price of the tow to the mechanic.
Gas in a Diesel Vehicle
Many diesel pumps have designs to prevent fuel mix ups. Many of the pumps will have a liger
diameter on the nozzle, or a different colored handle. While this prevents diesel pumps form
fitting in regular gas tanks, the regular gas pumps still fits into a diesel tank. Putting regular gas
in a diesel vehicle can cause major damage to the vehicles engines, make sure to follow the steps
below to minimize these damages if you ever have a fuel mix

The Policy Implications Of Social Process Theories
The policy implications of social process theories include: diversion programs amongst other
things. These programs are designed to rehabilitate these delinquents. Also, restitution allows
the criminal to give back in a sense to possibly apologize. Many programs are put in place to
deter anymore deviant acts or criminal behaviors. Primary deviance can often be pushed away;
whereas, secondary deviance cannot. Secondary deviance transforms a person s identity
because it affects more people associated with that person. Primary deviance doesn t
automatically place a label on the offender, but secondary deviance does. If a person is labelled
as a criminal then they tend to accept that they can t change this label. I feel like this labelling
process is based on judgment. With labels they don t just mean one thing it entails a whole slew
of meanings. Labels can cause someone to be hard on themselves or just stop caring about their
actions. If someone s ability or worth is attacked they are more likely to rebel. Also, these labels
make it much harder to be accepted by society. The social bond theory has four parts that construct
it. The first part is attachment, which in essence is necessary to keep a person sane. People want to
be accepted by others naturally. The next part is commitment, which if someone is committed to
something they won t be as compelled to take part in deviant acts. The third part is involvement.
Getting involved with activities will deter people from engaging

Abstract
This paper compares and contrasts the concepts found on John P. Kotter s, Leading Change (1996),
book and the concepts presented by John M. Ivancevich, Robert Konopske and Michael T.
Mattenson s Organizational Behavior and Management text book. Kotter emphasizes in each step
the importance of dealing with human emotions and how to better manage them when dealing with
organizational change. The biggest asset to an organization is their human resources. To an
organization this simply means that many emotions need to be addressed before a door can be
opened towards ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The people that are leading the efforts are in charge of making changes that should result in a more
effective organization in terms of organizational strength. This step can be compared to Ivancevich
et al. s concepts of teams and changing attitudes.
The guiding coalition should act as a synergetic team as described by Ivancevich et al. This team
should be formed by individuals who are one hundred percent committed and dedicated towards the
goal of organizational change. They should be skilled in leadership, problem solving and emotional
roles (P. 259). The emotional role will be discussed more in depth when presenting the changing
attitudes concept. Forming a guiding coalition is an essential component for undertaking a
restructure, reengineer or to retool strategies (Kotter, 1996, P. 52).
Kotter mentioned the integrity or trust factor as a main component to altering employees negative
attitudes and motivating them towards change. The concept presented by Ivancevich et al. on
changing attitudes includes the communicator, the message and the situation factors (this analysis
will only refer to the first two factors). The communicator factor relates to employee s willingness
to change attitudes because they like and trust their manager (guiding coalition), they can even tend
to adopt attitudes and behaviors of that individual (Ivancevich et al, 2007, P.69). Within the
message factor, the guiding coalition

Application Room For Breast Imaging
When I entered the medical field over twenty years ago, at the front desk of the radiology
department were file cabinets which contained notecards listing the imaging studies performed
on each patient. If a patient had previous imaging, we would go to the film file room to retrieve
the folder from the rolling storage units. In these heavy folders, along with the films, is also
where we would find the typed reports associated with those old exams. After the radiologist
compared new studies with the old and dictated a report onto a small cassette tape, the
transcriptionist would type the report from the recording and a copy of the report stapled to the
paper order for the exam performed was added to the folder. Copies of the reports were filed in
medical records and sent to the ordering provider. At the end of each day, all film folders were
returned to the file room for storage. In my current practice, imaging orders are entered in the
patient s electronic chart in the Epic computer system. When a patient arrives for breast imaging,
the relevant medical historyis reviewed and updated in the Magview system. Previous images are
retrieved from PACS and the current digital study is compared on high resolution computer
monitors. With a few mouse clicks in Magview, the radiologist generates a report from the patient
history and current findings. Signing off with another click, the report is then immediately added to
the patient s chart and the ordering provider is notified of

Dbq Essay On Polio
Poliomyelitis (polio) is a disease that attacks the nervous tissue in the spinal cord and the brain
stem resulting in paralysis (Document One). Polio is caused by the poliovirus, but it is unknown
how this virus is acquired. The virus enters the digestive tract and stays in the intestines for up to
eight weeks, and then attacks the lymphatic system, the blood stream and eventually travels to the
brain and spine (Document Four). Once it is infected in one s body, the disease is highly
contagious and can be spread through contact of saliva, food, germs, or feces (Document Two). The
poliovirus causes most of its infections in the summer and fall. At one time, summer epidemics of
polio were common and greatly feared (Document Four). This may

into a redline situation due to many challenges have not been appropriately dealt with. They were
either not foreseen, or when noticed, where just coped with and no intelligent management controls

The majority of the issues can be attributed to how Dick Eaton has allowed himself to be

It is extremely important that Dick take Court Chilton s advice If you re going to make this
thing work, you re going to have to lean in (Hitt et al., 2011, p. 568). Speed of change for
himself can be categorized as Urgency (Hitt et al., 2011, p. 543) where the change is urgent and a
faster paced implementation in his dynamics is required or the company will go upside down with
the vacuum in leadership, knowledge and experience. These contributions are extremely valuable
and are not easily replaceable.
I would highly advise that Dick negotiate an short term extension of Julia s employment (she stated
she would contribute to the company on a contract basis only) and create a contract for her that
will have a specific length of time (90 days to 6 months) wherein their roles would be reversed, and
she can grandfather him so that he can be comfortable to branch out into fulfilling her duties,
without fear of making mistakes that would deflate the company. Part of this agreement, would be
to utilize Julia s stronger leadership traits, to provide continuity to the company during this high
turnover. Given Dick s 6 month agreement, he will take his role on more seriously in the company
and be able to flex in and out of his current position to strengthen Julia s replacement or run the
company in her stead entirely.

Holden Caulfield Belonging
The Catcher in the Rye, a novel written by J. D. Salinger is a story about a unique yet troubled
boy named Holden Caulfield. Salinger masterfully depicts the story s protagonist as a well
rounded character who feels the full range of emotions. Holden is consumed by the desire to
live in a world where he can play the hero and surround himself with love and acceptance. Holden
s need for love and belonging, however, creates an irony because it provokes an intense aversion
to society that pushes Holden further away from achieving a sense of belonging. While in several
ways Holden epitomizes the average teenager, he is also exceptionally unique and shows maturity
beyond his years. According to Granville Hicks, Salinger depicts a character... Show more content

An individual on the third level the need for love and belonging seeks to overcome loneliness,
give love, and receive love in a stable way (47). For example, instead of staying at Pencey until
Wednesday, like Holden is supposed to, he attempts to go to New York and escape the loneliness
that Pencey brings him. His decision to leave is set off by his argument with Ackley, a boy in
the dorm next door. I just didn t want to hang around anymore, says Holden, it made me too sad
and lonesome (Salinger 51). Maybe Holden believes that he ll be able to find a sense of
belonging in New York. Carl Strauch infers that Holden s inability to relate to others and constant
rejection drive him to humiliation (506). Since Holden feels Pencey is the source of these painful
emotions, it is not surprising that he seeks to reinvent himself somewhere else so that he may have
a chance at having a sense of belongingness. Similar to Maslow s hierarchy of needs, Alfred Adler
had a theory called the style of life that can be used along with his other theories to assess an
individual s internal conflict. On the authority of Joanne Irving, Adler s theory of the style of life,
formerly called the life plan, comprises the fundamentals of Adlerian psychology. It states that
every individual must establish a set of goals with which they can apply their creative self in
hopes of succeeding (82). These goals however, can be hindered by many aspects of

Comparing Film And Luhrmann s Film
In Zeffirelli s film and Luhrmann s film, there are many similar elements as well as many
different elements. Both the settings are based out side, make up is similar, cinematography has
the same characters, and the acting is serious as well as dramatic in both films. Some things that
were different are the costumes, props, and sounds. In Zeffirelli s film, the setting is outside in a
village shopping type area with a fountain. Mercutio and Benvoleo see the Capulets coming there
way. I think the reason why Zeffirelli decided to have them fight outside on the village area was
because there are many people who can watch the fight see who killed who. In Luhrmann s film,
the setting is at a beach, still filled with many people. Mercutio is sitting by the other Montagues

There are many layers to their clothes as the main color on top is the house colors blue and
orange. For their pants, they are leggings. In Luhrmann s, the Montagues are wearing their
tropical shirts with no under layers, and the Capulets are wearing all black, a bit more formal
than the Montagues. The style costumes still represent who the two houses still are. Because of
the different time settings, the outfits are anywhere near the same style. In both of the films,
the actors had lots of dirt on their face from rolling around and fighting on the floor. In Zeffirelli
s film there is less blood on Romeo s face and Tybalt s face, but in Luhrmann s film there is a lot
more dirt and blood on Romeos face and shirt as well as Tybalts face and clothes. I think the
reason why Luhrmann s film had a bit more blood, dirt, and more tears was to show how much
Mercutio mean t to Romeo as a friend. In Zeffirelli s film there is less tears, blood, and tears but
Romeo still shows how upset he is with Tybalt by his dramatic sword fighting and

Block Nested Loop Join
1. Abstract:
The project deals with the Block Nested loop Join operation on given relations. In the project, we
used Adventure Works databaseto demonstrate the results. We observed the execution of the
block nested loop Join. The project also takes into account the technical details of each relations,
for example, what is the tuple size of the relation, what are the total number of blocks allocated
for each relation, what are the number of tuples per block and so on. The algorithm for the Join
are detailed and explored. Also for the algorithm, the best, the worst case is being elaborated.
Further, even the available memory size, allocated memory size, are taken into account while
retrieving the tuples from the relations. The number of Block transfers, and number of I/O seeks
required for each relation are calculated. Finally, these time of each relation in the algorithm are
compared to determine the role of tuples in Block Nested loop join.
2. Implementation:
For the implementation purpose, Adventure Works is used as the database and Java is used for
Programming. Net Beans is used for Java programming and

Using The Method Of Heat Shock
Introduction:
Genetic Transformation is the process by which a segment of DNA of a specific organism is
implanted into another organism that reads the foreign organisms DNA and presents the phenotype
for the selected DNA segment. The genetic transformation can occur using three different methods,
but in the case of the experiment conducted and described below, was performed using the method
of heat shock. In the experiment, heat shock was used to genetically transform a piece of DNA from
a jellyfish into a sample of E. coli bacteria to observe if the transformation would occur. The
components necessary for the transformation were: pGLO, a plasmid acting as a vector for the
transformation and contained the DNA segment extracted from jellyfish that encodes for the
production of a protein that glows (GFP); Luria Bertani broth, the culture for the transformation;
Ampicillin Resistant gene, to sort cells so only the cells having absorbed plasmid will survive;
Arabinose, a sugar to aid in the growth of bacteria. The genetic transformation was tested using four
samples, each having a different environment. The first sample s environment consisted of +pGLO,
the Luria Bertani broth, and a gene resistant to Ampicillin. The second sample s environment
consisted of +pGLO, the Luria Bertani broth, a gene resistant to Ampicillin, and arabinose. The
third sample s environment consisted of pGLO, the Luria Bertani broth, and a gene resistant to
Ampicillin. The fourth sample s environment

Analysis Of The Absolutely True Diary Of A Part-Time Indian
Al Pacino once said, Be careful how you judge people, You don t sum up a man s life in one
moment. In the novel, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian ,Sherman Alexie
explains the hard life of Arnold Spirit that is filled with many problems, death, and bullying.
Arnold Spirit was born with many medical problems and was picked on for most of his life. But,
this did not keep him from receiving a good education and doing something incredible with his
life. So, Arnold Spirit left the rez to attend Reardon, an all white school, where he was an outcast
at first, but made many new friends by the end of Freshman year. Arnold Spirit was known for
betraying his tribe and leaving the rez, but despite this he discovered many new strengths and
continued to carry on with his life towards success. Throughout the novel, The Absolutely True
Diary of a Part Time Indian, Sherman Alexie discusses about the issues or struggles that Arnold
Spirit faced which include bullying, stereotypes, and being different.
Arnold s biggest struggle at school is bullying. Arnold says, Yep those bastards were making fun
of my brain disorder. I fell down. One of the brothers picked me up, dusted me off, and kneed me
in the balls. The Andruss brothers laughed and walked away (Alexie 21). Arnold had been pushed
around and bullied for his medical problems his whole life, and one of the main reasons of
bullying is because of his appearance. While writing in his diary, Arnold explains, Everybody on the

problem. WTO only replies on each country s political decision in the end. WTO should have more

п‚· Carboxylic acids are substances that have a general formula of RCO2H. They are
considered as Bronsted Lowry acids or proton donors. They are polar since they can be both be
hydrogen bond acceptor and donors due to the presence of the carbonyl and hydroxyl groups
respectively. There are instances that the hydroxyl and carbonyl group have the tendency to self
associate and become less soluble if the carbon no increases.

Margot s Intentional Killing in Hemingway s The Short...
Ernest Hemingway is known for writing novels and short stories with unresolved endings. In his
short story, ?The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber?, he definitely leaves his readers guessing.
The question is whether Margot kills her husband,
Francis, intentionally, or if she accidentally shoots him, because she tries to save his life. There are
many points that could be argued for both conclusions, but my observations have led me to believe
that Margot did indeed shoot her husband intentionally, however, without pre meditation.
Margot has one of the most obvious motivations to kill her husband: money. In addition, she, on the
other hand, has one great asset, her beauty, ?They had a sound basis of union. Margot was too

buffalo hunt gives Francis a new found sense of ?happiness?. This ?new wealth? of confidence is
powerful for Francis and devastating for Margot . ?Fear gone like an operation. Something else
grew in its place. Main thing a man had. Made him into man. Women knew it too. No bloody fear?
(Hemingway). Margot knew at this point that if Francis survives the trip, he might possess enough
personal strength and finally leave her, and that is what encourages her decision to kill him. At the
end of the story Wilson confirms the reader?s suspicion when he reacts to the shooting by saying to
Margot, ?That was a pretty thing to do? (Hemindway). That statement reinforces the belief that
Margot was indeed taking advantage of the opportunity to ensure her long term wealth and

The World s Fair An Attempt By The United States Government
Introduction
In 1904, millions of people visited the Philippine Exhibit at the St. Louis World s Fair, observing
the displays of native Filipinos and leaving with an impression of savagery. However, this
impression was hardly incidental. To what extent was the 1904 World s Fair an attempt by the
United States government to justify its imperialist involvement in the Philippines? This fair was
carefully engineered by the United States government to impart an uncivilized impression of
Filipinos onto American fairgoers, thereby justifying the need for US involvement. This
commission was a committee ordained by the US government to govern the newly acquired
Philippine islands. This portion of the fair would likely not be present if the United ... Show more

By depicting the Filipinos as savages, the Commission hoped to prove that the Filipinos were no
longer resisting American control and that the US government would benevolently assimilate and
civilize the Filipinos. Additionally, the Commission also hoped to attract American capital and
enterprise by displaying the products of its fertile lands and the abundant undeveloped mineral and
timber resources. This essay will investigate the imperialist motivation behind and methods used in
depicting the Filipinos as savages in need of civilization. It will also analyze the fair as a means to
promote American investment the Philippines natural resources.
The Spanish American War
The motives behind the conception of the 1904 exhibition are rooted in the United States
diplomacy around and during the Spanish American War in 1898. In the preceding decade, the
United States continually attempted to exert its influence over Spanish controlled Cuba. Although
Spain had political control over Cuba, the United States had long been interested in annexing Cuba.
This interest was initially sparked by commerce. By 1820, trade between the U.S. and Cuba had
become so prevalent that many American politicians expected Cuba to become a part of the Union
or an appendage to it. However, the rise of Cuban nationalism became an obstacle, as in 1898,
Cuban revolutionaries began a three year revolt against the Spanish colonial government. This
threatened the United States economic ties with Cuba. In

Blacks and the Media Essay example
Racism and discrimination continue to be a prevalent problem in American society. Although
minorities have made significant strides toward autonomy and equality, the images in media,
specifically television, continue to misrepresent and manipulate the public opinion of blacks. It is
no longer a blatant practice upheld by the law and celebrated with hangings and beatings, but
instead it is a subtle practice that is perceived in the entertainment and media industries. Whether it
s appearing in disparaging roles or being negatively portrayed in newscasts, blacks continue to be
the victims of an industry that relies on old ideas to appeal to the majority. The viscous cycle that is
the unconscious racism of the media continues to not only be... Show more content on

In the television show The First 48, which is promoted as being an authentic form of reality
television, the depiction of blacks as criminals is evident. In most cases, it is a black person who
is suspected, accused and arrested for a crime; although, one might argue the show does its job
to follow along with the calls received and crimes reported, the overrepresentation of blacks
relative to the population numbers is evident. Ardis C. Martin, in an Academic Psychiatry
Journal, writes, People develop conceptions about the world as a result of repeated exposure to
consistent and repetitive images in the media. In watching The First 48, it is no surprise why a
white consumer would come to the realization that all blacks are deviant criminals, while a black
consumer would be susceptible to being a criminal because of a media that has already defined
him or her by the color of his or her skin. Black Entertainment Television, which was created to
empower black people in a predominantly white media, has strayed away from its roots and
marketed its programming to mimic and compete with other stations for ratings. As a television
station that once had a variety of journalism programs and shows dedicated to a diversity of music
genres within the black culture, it has now centered its model on reality television and limited
selection of rap music videos. The Encyclopedia of African AmericanHistory states the ascendancy

Comparison of Charge of the Light Brigade and Green Beret
The Charge of the Light Brigade is about an army of six hundred men on horseback going into war
without a say on whether they want to or not.
The poem is structured into six stanzas and the rhyming scheme is
A,B,C,B,D,E,C,B. Someone in charge had blunder d and called out orders for six hundred British
Calvary to storm a full Russian battalion Suddenly they were surrounded;
Cannon to the right of them

That is one minute to tell where the Vietcong are or his father gets shot. The boy does not say a

the gun shot shatters through the forest the boy crouches down and starts to cry.
One mercenary then goes over to Green Beret and says to him

At that time the mercenary didn t know how wrong he was because the boy knew all there was to
know about the Vietcong. The caves, the trails, the hidden places and all the names.
Green Berets use of direct speech and its narrative structure produce a very focused poem. It is
direct and hard hitting, unlike Tennyson s, which is more romantic, honourable view of war.

The Death Of Matt Shepard
The death of Matt Shepard produced a profound impact on the community of Laramie and the entire
state. This tragedy provoked numerous discussions and drew the attention of the public to the
position of gay and lesbian community at large and individual representatives of the homosexual
community in particular. At the same time, the general public was basically concerned on the death
of Matt Shepard rather than on the problem of the homosexual community of Laramie. In such a
situation, Beth Loffreda attempted to draw the attention of the public to this problem at large. In
her book Losing Matt Shepard , she does not focus entirely on the death of Matt Shepard and its
circumstances, but she rather to lay emphasis on the problem which remained practically unnoticed
by mass mediaand the general public, the problem of hate and intolerance in regard to
homosexuals and their position in the local community. However, she does not tend to explain the
murder of Matt Shepard by hate only and she disagrees with the arguments that hate is not a
Laramie value or that hate: it s a common word in Wyoming . Instead, she suggests to view the
murder as the revelation of a much more complicated problem than ordinary hate, but she
underlines that it is rather the problem of intolerance and cultural norms and biases that dominate
in the local community. In such a way, it is possible to estimate that the views on the tragedy ,I

The Stranger Critical Lens Essay
The Stranger: Absurdity Through a Lens The theme of absurdity can be seen through three
different lenses in The Stranger, by Albert Camus: life, decisions, and reflection. The first lens in
which the reader can see absurdity in the novel is when the protagonist lives for the sensual
pleasures of the present moment. The second lens in which the reader can see absurdity in the
novel is when the protagonist absurdity of the protagonists decisions on how he does or doesn t
decide to kill the Arab. The third lens in which the reader can see absurdity in the novel is when
the protagonist how he reflects back on his decisions and life and concludes that life means
nothing between birth and death. The changes in the lenses of Meursault s absurdum are
projected through the author s choice of different language. The first lens in which the reader
can see absurdity in the novel is when the protagonist lives for the sensual pleasures of the
present moment. Meursault is the protagonist who lives for the sensual pleasures of the present
moment. He is free of any system of values in his life. And he would rather not behave in

Animal Farm Figurative Language
How does George Orwell use characterisation to explore ideas in his Novella Animal Farm?
George Orwell s, Animal Farm conveys the concepts like loyalty can be rewarded, all power
corrupts and fear is more influential than love. These key features clearly express that power can
devise influential actions, which has been mentioned many times throughout the novel. The
techniques like personification, irony, foreshadowing, conflict, figurative language, point of view,
symbolism and imagery are used to display the manipulation, which support in an expressive tone.
Orwell also displays that loyalty is not always rewarded through Boxer the horse. Boxer

United States Is Becoming A Game Only The Privileged Can...
America has transitioned from the land of unconditional opportunity to the land of predetermined
success. However, this can t be a surprise with by 2000, the top 1 percent of households holding
more wealth than the entire bottom 95 percent (Draut 21). This fact is still true today, with the top
1% holding, 35.6% of all private wealth ( Facts and Figures in 99 to 1). Now the impact this has is,
with attending collegebeing the route to wealth more than ever, prosperity in United Statesis
becoming a game only the privileged can play. Nearly three quarters of students at the nation s top
146 colleges come from families in the top quarter of the socioeconomic status (SES) scale (Draut
48), leaving millions of Americans from reaching their full potential. It goes beyond race, even
though lineage and class have a huge correlation. The fact that if you don t have money in the
United States from birth, your opportunities are significantly limited. This is proved with only 3%
of freshman from the bottom quarter income bracket going to the top colleges (Colleges, American
Association Of Community). A large reason for this is the fact that government funding for
students college education has largely decreased with student loans/debt being more prominent.
Added to this is the fact that many minority communities are still living with the repercussions of
America s white prejudice past.

Scott Thompson Case
Case Summary
It is hard to fathom in a time when a quick Google search can elicit details about nearly anyone
that people continue to fabricate, omit, or falsify information on their resumГ© or job application.
However, complete another search on high profile resumГ© fraud and one will learn this type of
fraud continues to be prevalent, even among those occupying the C Suite. The case asks the reader
to explore the ethics along the continuum of white lies to more serious fraudulent statements and
decide if it matters, particularly if the person can perform his or her job duties. While many job
applicants have something they might prefer to omit or inflate in importance on their application,
this can create serious consequences for the applicant, both professionally and legally.

The Downward Spiral Analysis
In 1994, Nine Inch Nails released a dark, desolate album called The Downward Spiral. The songs
are known to alternate violently between too low volumes with sweet melody (along with that
soft ragged voice characteristic of grunge) and too high volumes with many layers of white
noise, screaming, and distortion layered over hard rock instrumentals (Gold). The message of the
album is as disturbing as the audio: It tracks the narrator s path of self destruction through
attempting to find satisfaction in religion, sex, and drug abuse ( Interview ). The album, while
rife with emotional significance on its own, acts as both a prophecy and a cry for help. It
followed a junkie s painful lifestyle, the addiction and abuse functioning solely as a metaphor for
Reznor s internal strife ( Interview ). But soon after releasing The Downward Spiral, Reznor would
turn to drugs and alcohol, later surviving a heroin overdose in the... Show more content on

disgusted with how everything has turned out, and asks in a refrain, What have I become? He
is miserable, and considers his life and accomplishments (his empire of dirt ) worthless. To mark the

The PSDA further requires institutions to document patient information and provide ongoing
community education on advance directives. (Ascension Health, 2013). An example of this Act is
the very popular Nancy Cruzan Case. Although Nancy was left in a vegetative state resulting from a
car accident, her parents were able to make the decision to have her removed from feeding tubes
because Nancy expressed before the accident that she never wanted to be kept alive from breathing

providers that receive Medicare or Medicaid funds to provide patients with written information

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Epilepsy
Business Understanding
According to World Health Organisation (2017), around 50 million people worldwide have
epilepsy. Unfortunately, epilepsy cannot be cured, but could be controlled by pharmacological or
electrical treatment based on seizure prediction (Moghim Corne, 2014). Since EEG has advantages
such as speed, high time resolution and non invasive natures, it maintains one of the most
frequently used tools in predicting epilepsy (Hasan et al. 2017).
Electroencephalography (EEG) has a broad use in both medical practices and medical research for
diagnosing and identifying epileptic seizures, syncope (fainting), cognitive psychologies, and
psychophysiological research (Niedermever, 2004). Commonly used in identifying epilepsy, the
EEG helps the doctors to distinguish types of seizures, the reasons to trigger the seizures and also
the treatment needed. Types of EEG are different according to test aims, facilities, medical and
patients situations, and are generally separated into 4 types: Routine EEG, Sleep EEG, Ambulatory
EEG and Video EEG. All of the types would record electrical activities of the brain, investigate
their potential fluctuations and brain waves, and perform analysis to convert the data into useful
information in identifying the seizures. Usually, the EEG test will last for 20 to 40 minutes, and
will be conducted by attaching scalp with the electrodes which are connected to an EEG recording
machine (NHS, 2017).
There are three main cases to be solved in this project. First is to identify whether an EEG showing
seizure or not. Second is to identify the 5 categories of EEG. Third is to identify the classification
of EEG, whether it is indicating healthy brain activity, potential epileptic seizure or actual epileptic
seizure.

For example, sometimes the placebo effect can impact the speed at which an individual s cancer
is accelerating. The placebo effect can alter the way an individual thinks by making them believe
that a treatment is actually a drug. However, instead, the pill actually given to them is a sugar pill

How Does Tim O Brien Show Courage
The brave die never, though they sleep in dust: Their courage nerves a thousand living men
(Minor J. Savage). Bravery, is a noun. It s a behavior that one displays through an action.
Everyone has a different way of showing bravery and there are many ways of showing this kind
of behavior. It s not just want you do to show that you are brave, it s also what you say. Tim O
Brien shows readers how his characters in stories, that he s written based on his own experience,
display different acts of bravery. Vietnam literature proves that Vietnam was bravery.
Courage is another word for bravery, it s a synonym. O Brien uses the word courage in different
parts of If I Die in a Combat Zone. He claims that, Courage is nothing to laugh at, not if it is
proper courage and exercised by men who know what they do is proper. Proper courage is wise
courage (Page 130). Courage showed in this story, used quite a few times throughout the story
but mainly towards the end of the book. O Brien uses the word courage as an action. Only
certain people show courage and that s what he s telling us here. If a soldier knows how to use
courage the right way, they are using wise courage. Tim O Brien stated that, For courage,
according to Plato is one of the four parts of virtue. It is there with temperance, justice, and
wisdom, and all parts are necessary to make the sublime human being (Page 140). When Tim O
Brien mentions courage again he is talking about how Plato thought of it. Plato thought of

When the horn blows, the adrenaline is already flowing and it feels good to finally get moving. All
the pent up energy finally gets released and channeled. The hours of training, the preparation, the
drive, all come down to this. Running a triathlon (swim, bike, run) or duathlon (run, bike, run) is
about what it takes to get to the starting line. Follow these steps and you ll be ready to stand at the
starting line for your first duathlon.
First, you have to identify a race. There are a variety of websites that provide a list (active.com, for
example). This is important because preparing for a 5K or 10K or 10 miler is not the same as a
multi sport event. You need the time to train not for one event (running) but two, so the ... Show

the race so you can get your racing bib, helmet number, and bike number. You can attach these so
you don t have to worry about it tomorrow. You can see the race route on line (usually), so if you
have time, drive the route so you can get a feel for the land (especially the bike course). You may
not realize how big some of those hills are by looking at a map, but if you drive the course, you

An Essay About My Cultural Identity
What is my cultural identity? Personally, I don t think I am completely assured on what my cultural
identity is, but I can do my best on explaining it. However, I won t get started on that yet, first I ll
explain the occasion of me learning about my identity. At almost the beginning of the year, it was
announced in our English class that we would be doing an essay on our cultural identities. When
my teacher announced this I thought to myself, What in the world is a cultural identity, or even my
cultural identity? In these months, we have gotten to learn the definition of culture, and what it
means to us, individually., I believe that culture means a group of people that share the same
customs, way of life, and beliefs. Also, over these last couple of months we have been reading
texts all about people knowing and understanding their cultural identities, meanwhile I still didn
t understand my own. All I know is that I was born on February 11, 2002, I like movies and
music, and my mom is from Chile and my Dad is from Virginia. Now that didn t feel like enough
for me to write on, but then I started thinking about all of the cultural differences that my parents
have had raising me as a person, and how those have all combined to make me. In my short 15
years of life, the culture clashes have sometimes affected me on my thoughts and opinions,
which I ll talk about later on. As well as how movies and music have affected my perspectives
and opinions. Now there are a lot of aspects that make me as a person, but the one I want to
develop on the most would be the fact that I have been raised by two almost completely different
cultures, my dad being raised in a more conservative setting, while my mom was raised in a more
carefree, but still careful setting, but they both lived in similar living conditions, not having a lot of
money, but they found ways in their times to overcome those issues and cope with them. Which
makes them similar on how they have raised me and my two siblings, but still quite different in
other aspects. I found this part of me, with the combined cultures of my parents, to be very
conflicting at times because when my dad would talk about different topics, my mother would just
have a completely

what was the most significant event in German history
In considering the process of change in the development of Germany over the whole period 1890
1991, how far can the treaty of Versailles been seen as a key turning point?
Jonathan Sokolov
The Treaty of Versailles was a monumental stage in German history, helping to shape German
history for arguably the best part of thirty years. It can be argued that the Treaty was the most
significant event since the unification of Germany in 1890. The short term consequences were also
highly prominent as over 300,000 Germans fled to America in the years 1917 23. Moreover many
Germans were aggrieved by the Treaty, this lead to public exploits (Kapp Putsch and Munich
Putsch) that lead to casualties accumulating into the 1000 s. With so much death and ... Show more

Although William Carr (A History Of Germany 1815 1945 (1985)) argues that as severe as the
Treaty was it should be remembered that Germany might easily have feared much worse. If
Clemenceau had had his way instead of being restrained by Britain and America the treaty could
have been much worse for Germany . However this does not undermine the fact that the Treaty
was highly influential in shaping German history. Finally the Treaty can be held responsible for
the rise of Hitler in 1933. Moreover Hitler used the Treaty as a major campaigning point because
many Germans were still aggrieved by the terns imposed by the Treaty, thus enabling Hitler s rise
to prominence to be swift; however there are many extenuating factors, such as the Reichstag fire
in 1933. Due to the fact the Treaty aided Hitler s rise to power it can be argued it instigated the
process of the Second World War, a monumental stage in German history. No one can challenge the
fact that the Treaty of Versailles was a key turning point; however it is hard to come to a conclusive
statement on whether or not it is the most significant.
After the Second World War the Treaty can no longer be influential as it was scrapped following
Germany s defeat in 1945. Following the defeat of Germany in June was the three conferences in
1945 that were highly influential In German history,(Tehran, Yalta, Potsdam) in particular Potsdam.

Greco-Persian Wars Research Paper
Greco Persian Wars Basics The Greco Persian War was between the Greeks (Athenians and
Spartans) and the Persians. The Persian Empire , or the Achaemenid Empire was first started by
Cyrus The Great. The leader of the Persians in this war was Cyrus s son King Darius I. The war
lasted from ~500 449 BCE, when the Persians finally got peace with the Greeks. The war started
from the Ionian Revolt. Ionia was a Greek city state under the control of the Persians. Around
~500 BCE was when they revolted against the Persians, with the help of the Athenians and
Eritreans. The revolt lasted from about ~500 ~492 BCE. The empire stretched from Egypt to India,

The Persians were motivated by revenge, while the Greeks were motivated by just defeating this
bigger enemy. The Greek s motivation was a better thing to be motivated by the Persian s
motivation. The Battles In around 500 BCE, Ionia (Under Persian control) rebels against the
Persians, with the help of the Athenians and the Eritreans. In 492 BCE, Darius I sent a fleet to
get revenge on the Athenians, the fleet went up the Aegean Sea and got to the Xerxes Canal
(green route). By the time the fleet passes by Xerxes Canal, there s a storm that threw the fleet
of course and destroyed it. He makes another attempt in 490 BCE on the Athenians, his fleet
travel right past Naxos and stops at Marathon (brown route). Unfortunately, the Persians lose
against the Athenians again, but they do get control over Eritrea. This battle was really the first
battle of the War. In 486 BCE, Darius I died, and his son Xerxes takes over. In 480 BCE, Xerxes
sends an army to get back at the Athenians. This time he has two armies, one traveling by land,
and the other traveling by sea. The armies travel by the coast of Thrace and Macedonia (magenta

Bicameral Legislature Essay
Famous American poet James Russell Lowell once said, Democracy gives every man the right to
be his own oppressor ( Quotations 2011). And it should be just that. James Russell Lowell
successfully defined democracy when it is in its truest form; a citizen s beliefs should be equally
represented and considered for. The representative democracy instated in the United Statespresents
the need for three branches in the government; they include the executive, legislative, and judicial
branch. The Congress embodies the lawmaking branch of the government, having all legislative
powers as it is stated in Article I of the Constitution. To prevent one state from having too much

They must have the bills checked by both bodies as well as the president and if they disapprove,
a veto can be placed. Another similarity is that both the House and the Senate are also elected
by the people. Although they have some comparisons in the way the House is set up and the
tasks they have to do, there are many distinctions. The House of Representatives contains more
than four times the amount of Senators and serves two year terms compared to a Senator s six
year term. Senators also have to be at least thirty years of age with nine years of citizenship while
the House sets a twenty five year old minimum with seven years of citizenship (Harrison 408).
While the House is led by the Speaker of the House, John Boehner, the Senate is led by the Vice
President, who is currently Joe Biden.
With 435 members in the House, the House of Representatives is known to be the body that
symbolizes the citizens of America. It was intended that the House adhered to the beliefs of the
people more than the Senate did, making the House of Representatives a bit more democratic.
Senators are voted to represent the beliefs of a whole state; while on the other hand, members of
House represent groups of citizens in specific districts of states. Because of this, representatives try
and submit bills that appeal to the voters in their own district. This allows members to

Health Disparities and Communication Disorders
Courtney Barringtine
Howard University
Abstract Currently in the Unites States, Americans are struggling to maintain quality health without
proper healthcare. As a result, health disparities have become a widespread epidemic plaguing
minorities. Many of the various health disproportions stem from the government s inequality and
racism. In other cases, genetics and socioeconomic status may cause health disparities. Overall,
these disparities may be avoidable or unavoidable depending on the individual. Recently, health
disparities have begun to implicate the field of Communication Sciences and Disorders. Speech

An article in Psychology Today explains that currently minorities become ill at younger ages, suffer
from more severe illnesses and die earlier than Whites (Lyubansky, 2013). Currently, minorities of
low socioeconomic status (SES) suffer from more health discrepancies than any other race in the
United States. Research has shown that these health disparities against all minorities have begun to
implicate all medical professionals including speech pathologists. Among minorities such as Asians,
Hispanics, Indians, Native Americans, and Middle Easterners, the African American race has been
affected tremendously by the health disparities in the United States. Currently, African Americans
have significantly higher mortality rates from cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease, cancer,
diabetes, HIV, unintentional injuries, pregnancy, sudden infant death syndrome, and homicide than
do whites Americans (Fiscella Williams, 2004). While African Americans may lead in these
categories, other minorities are not far behind in experiencing health disparities.
Causes
Biochemical theories have said to be a leading cause of health disparities in minorities. Various
research sources confirm that genetics plays a role in the prevalence of disparities among
minorities. Family traits such as metabolism, passed down illnesses, and life expectancy may cause
an individual to acquire poor health

Oldcastle Precast of Avon, Conn. prefabricated a precast concrete pool and weir fish ladder,
designed for a tributary to Hubbard Brook, Middletown, as part of the Connecticut Department of
Transportation s State Route 410 (Aircraft Road) culvert rehabilitation project.
The Connecticut Department of Transportation included a concrete pool and weir fish ladder to the
culvert rehabilitation project under State Route 410 after learning about the benefits of a fish
ladder, at this site, by the CT DEEP Inland Fisheries Division and the Fishery department. The new
fish ladder is providing fish passage through the slip line repaired culvert. Slip lining entails
installation of a smaller sized culvert to line and stabilize the existing culvert barrel that was
deteriorating.
The Connecticut DEEP and the Fishery department found multiple benefits to adding a fish
passageway through this culvert since there are suitable instream brook trout spawning and rearing
habitats upstream of the culvert. Additionally, the fish passageway would restore connectivity to

Cant Hardly Wait Compared To The Canterbury Tales
Canterbury Tales Compare/Contrast Essay
Satire as described by the Webster dictionary is a way of using humor to show the weaknesses or
bad qualities of a person, government, society, etc. One of the first examples of satirical English
writing was Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales. The CanterburyTales revolve around an
eclectic group of pilgrims on a religious journey to St. Thomas Beckett s shrine . The true intent
of this classic tale was to expose all of 14th century England to the corruptness of the cast system
in London. Chaucer executed his purpose by including characters of various statures into his
story and discreetly criticizing them by using humor. In doing so he also criticized the morals of
aristocracy at that time. Centuries later Chaucer s interpretation of society continues to be used
in literature and other forms of art today. Can t Hardly Wait is an example of a film that
embodies Chaucer s ideas. This cheesy 1990s classic romance is set at a high school graduation
party. The main plot of a boy trying to get his dream girl is simply an unimportant factor compared
to screenwriter Deborah Kaplan s true purpose: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Knight was a far cry from the corrupt characters in this tale because unlike them, he did not
abuse his power. The attire of the Knight proved that he not only worked hard but also lived
modestly. Although he was wealthy, his cloaks did not readily support that fact, for He wore a
fustian tunic stained and dark (Canterbury 77). He was so admired for his chivalrous nature that
many referred to him as a true, perfect gentle knight (Canterbury

  • 2. Zombie Apocalypse Short Story Karlee Danielson The gruesome zombie apocalypse had broken out three days ago, and everyone was in full panic mode as we tried to figure out what to do next. We have to evacuate the town immediately! shouted the mayor. Everyone suddenly went quiet, all eyes on the mayor. Then suddenly there was a loud BANG! And the sound of glass shattering made everyone turn and look towards the door. Then we realized what was happening. The deadly zombies had made it to Leedey and were now invading the building! I grabbed my three closest friends and we all looked at each other frantically with no idea what to do. I noticed an air vent just about big enough for me to fit in it. We all climbed in the small, dingy, vent and crawled around until we found an opening going to the outside of the building. After we checked to make sure the coast was clear, we crawled out and tried not to panic while trying to figure out what to do next. We spotted some four wheelers parked on the side of the building and all quickly jumped on one. The first thing we decided to do is to go get our sisters, who were at the school. We arrived at the school and the zombies hadn t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The group all agreed that we should keep moving and try and find some food. A little while later we arrived at the river, hoping and praying that we would find something to eat or drink. We were driving up the bank of the river when I spotted something shiny behind a few of the trees. I pulled up closer and figured out that there was a bunch of supplies and food! I yelled at the others to come over and see what I had found. We all got off our vehicles and started rading through the pile of stuff. We found quite a few weapons, a bunch of tasty food, and a water filter device. After a quick snack we started thinking about what to do next. We all came to an agreement and decided that we should camp out another night and then head out in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Diesel in a Gas Vehicle When you pulled up to the gas station all of the pumps were full but one. You pulled up to the pump, filled up and then noticed that you were using the diesel pump! Gas cars can t run on diesel and will stop running once they ve used up any gas that is left in the tank since they can t combust diesel. If you re already driving, pull over in a safe place and turn off the car. Next you ll want to call a mechanic, as your car will need to have both the fuel tank and fuel lines drained to prevent damage. Once the tank and lines have been drained, fill your car up with regular gas and you should be ready to go again. If you visit the mechanic right away, it is likely that your car will not sustain any permanent damages. Getting the lines and tank drained may cost you though, with the fix costing anywhere from $500 to over $1000 according to autoguide.com, plus the price of the tow to the mechanic. Gas in a Diesel Vehicle Many diesel pumps have designs to prevent fuel mix ups. Many of the pumps will have a liger diameter on the nozzle, or a different colored handle. While this prevents diesel pumps form fitting in regular gas tanks, the regular gas pumps still fits into a diesel tank. • 4. The Policy Implications Of Social Process Theories The policy implications of social process theories include: diversion programs amongst other things. These programs are designed to rehabilitate these delinquents. Also, restitution allows the criminal to give back in a sense to possibly apologize. Many programs are put in place to deter anymore deviant acts or criminal behaviors. Primary deviance can often be pushed away; whereas, secondary deviance cannot. Secondary deviance transforms a person s identity because it affects more people associated with that person. Primary deviance doesn t automatically place a label on the offender, but secondary deviance does. If a person is labelled as a criminal then they tend to accept that they can t change this label. I feel like this labelling process is based on judgment. With labels they don t just mean one thing it entails a whole slew of meanings. Labels can cause someone to be hard on themselves or just stop caring about their actions. If someone s ability or worth is attacked they are more likely to rebel. Also, these labels make it much harder to be accepted by society. The social bond theory has four parts that construct it. The first part is attachment, which in essence is necessary to keep a person sane. People want to be accepted by others naturally. The next part is commitment, which if someone is committed to something they won t be as compelled to take part in deviant acts. The third part is involvement. Getting involved with activities will deter people from engaging ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Organizational Behavior Management Concepts Kotter s Leading Change Concepts/ Organizational Behavior Management Concepts XXXXXXXX Webster University MNGT 5590 Dr. Victoria Bohrer May 11, 2011 Abstract This paper compares and contrasts the concepts found on John P. Kotter s, Leading Change (1996), book and the concepts presented by John M. Ivancevich, Robert Konopske and Michael T. Mattenson s Organizational Behavior and Management text book. Kotter emphasizes in each step the importance of dealing with human emotions and how to better manage them when dealing with organizational change. The biggest asset to an organization is their human resources. To an organization this simply means that many emotions need to be addressed before a door can be opened towards ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The people that are leading the efforts are in charge of making changes that should result in a more effective organization in terms of organizational strength. This step can be compared to Ivancevich et al. s concepts of teams and changing attitudes. The guiding coalition should act as a synergetic team as described by Ivancevich et al. This team should be formed by individuals who are one hundred percent committed and dedicated towards the goal of organizational change. They should be skilled in leadership, problem solving and emotional roles (P. 259). The emotional role will be discussed more in depth when presenting the changing attitudes concept. Forming a guiding coalition is an essential component for undertaking a restructure, reengineer or to retool strategies (Kotter, 1996, P. 52). Kotter mentioned the integrity or trust factor as a main component to altering employees negative attitudes and motivating them towards change. The concept presented by Ivancevich et al. on changing attitudes includes the communicator, the message and the situation factors (this analysis will only refer to the first two factors). The communicator factor relates to employee s willingness to change attitudes because they like and trust their manager (guiding coalition), they can even tend to adopt attitudes and behaviors of that individual (Ivancevich et al, 2007, P.69). Within the message factor, the guiding coalition ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Application Room For Breast Imaging When I entered the medical field over twenty years ago, at the front desk of the radiology department were file cabinets which contained notecards listing the imaging studies performed on each patient. If a patient had previous imaging, we would go to the film file room to retrieve the folder from the rolling storage units. In these heavy folders, along with the films, is also where we would find the typed reports associated with those old exams. After the radiologist compared new studies with the old and dictated a report onto a small cassette tape, the transcriptionist would type the report from the recording and a copy of the report stapled to the paper order for the exam performed was added to the folder. Copies of the reports were filed in medical records and sent to the ordering provider. At the end of each day, all film folders were returned to the file room for storage. In my current practice, imaging orders are entered in the patient s electronic chart in the Epic computer system. When a patient arrives for breast imaging, the relevant medical historyis reviewed and updated in the Magview system. Previous images are retrieved from PACS and the current digital study is compared on high resolution computer monitors. With a few mouse clicks in Magview, the radiologist generates a report from the patient history and current findings. Signing off with another click, the report is then immediately added to the patient s chart and the ordering provider is notified of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Polio is caused by the poliovirus, but it is unknown how this virus is acquired. The virus enters the digestive tract and stays in the intestines for up to eight weeks, and then attacks the lymphatic system, the blood stream and eventually travels to the brain and spine (Document Four). Once it is infected in one s body, the disease is highly contagious and can be spread through contact of saliva, food, germs, or feces (Document Two). They were either not foreseen, or when noticed, where just coped with and no intelligent management controls were implemented. It is extremely important that Dick take Court Chilton s advice If you re going to make this thing work, you re going to have to lean in (Hitt et al., 2011, p. 568). Speed of change for himself can be categorized as Urgency (Hitt et al., 2011, p. 543) where the change is urgent and a faster paced implementation in his dynamics is required or the company will go upside down with the vacuum in leadership, knowledge and experience. These contributions are extremely valuable and are not easily replaceable. I would highly advise that Dick negotiate an short term extension of Julia s employment (she stated she would contribute to the company on a contract basis only) and create a contract for her that will have a specific length of time (90 days to 6 months) wherein their roles would be reversed, and she can grandfather him so that he can be comfortable to branch out into fulfilling her duties, without fear of making mistakes that would deflate the company. Part of this agreement, would be to utilize Julia s stronger leadership traits, to provide continuity to the company during this high turnover. Given Dick s 6 month agreement, he will take his role on more seriously in the company and be able to flex in and out of his current position to strengthen Julia s replacement or run the company in her stead entirely. • 10. Holden Caulfield Belonging The Catcher in the Rye, a novel written by J. D. Salinger is a story about a unique yet troubled boy named Holden Caulfield. Salinger masterfully depicts the story s protagonist as a well rounded character who feels the full range of emotions. Holden is consumed by the desire to live in a world where he can play the hero and surround himself with love and acceptance. Holden s need for love and belonging, however, creates an irony because it provokes an intense aversion to society that pushes Holden further away from achieving a sense of belonging. While in several ways Holden epitomizes the average teenager, he is also exceptionally unique and shows maturity beyond his years. According to Granville Hicks, Salinger depicts a character... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An individual on the third level the need for love and belonging seeks to overcome loneliness, give love, and receive love in a stable way (47). For example, instead of staying at Pencey until Wednesday, like Holden is supposed to, he attempts to go to New York and escape the loneliness that Pencey brings him. His decision to leave is set off by his argument with Ackley, a boy in the dorm next door. I just didn t want to hang around anymore, says Holden, it made me too sad and lonesome (Salinger 51). Maybe Holden believes that he ll be able to find a sense of belonging in New York. Carl Strauch infers that Holden s inability to relate to others and constant rejection drive him to humiliation (506). Since Holden feels Pencey is the source of these painful emotions, it is not surprising that he seeks to reinvent himself somewhere else so that he may have a chance at having a sense of belongingness. Similar to Maslow s hierarchy of needs, Alfred Adler had a theory called the style of life that can be used along with his other theories to assess an individual s internal conflict. On the authority of Joanne Irving, Adler s theory of the style of life, formerly called the life plan, comprises the fundamentals of Adlerian psychology. It states that every individual must establish a set of goals with which they can apply their creative self in hopes of succeeding (82). These goals however, can be hindered by many aspects of ... Both the settings are based out side, make up is similar, cinematography has the same characters, and the acting is serious as well as dramatic in both films. Some things that were different are the costumes, props, and sounds. In Zeffirelli s film, the setting is outside in a village shopping type area with a fountain. Mercutio and Benvoleo see the Capulets coming there way. I think the reason why Zeffirelli decided to have them fight outside on the village area was because there are many people who can watch the fight see who killed who. In Luhrmann s film, the setting is at a beach, still filled with many people. Mercutio is sitting by the other Montagues when Tybalt and the other Capulets come there way.... The style costumes still represent who the two houses still are. Because of the different time settings, the outfits are anywhere near the same style. In both of the films, the actors had lots of dirt on their face from rolling around and fighting on the floor. In Zeffirelli s film there is less blood on Romeo s face and Tybalt s face, but in Luhrmann s film there is a lot more dirt and blood on Romeos face and shirt as well as Tybalts face and clothes. I think the reason why Luhrmann s film had a bit more blood, dirt, and more tears was to show how much Mercutio mean t to Romeo as a friend. Abstract: The project deals with the Block Nested loop Join operation on given relations. In the project, we used Adventure Works databaseto demonstrate the results. We observed the execution of the block nested loop Join. The project also takes into account the technical details of each relations, for example, what is the tuple size of the relation, what are the total number of blocks allocated for each relation, what are the number of tuples per block and so on. The algorithm for the Join are detailed and explored. Also for the algorithm, the best, the worst case is being elaborated. Further, even the available memory size, allocated memory size, are taken into account while retrieving the tuples from the relations. The number of Block transfers, and number of I/O seeks required for each relation are calculated. Finally, these time of each relation in the algorithm are compared to determine the role of tuples in Block Nested loop join. 2. • 14. Using The Method Of Heat Shock Introduction: Genetic Transformation is the process by which a segment of DNA of a specific organism is implanted into another organism that reads the foreign organisms DNA and presents the phenotype for the selected DNA segment. The genetic transformation can occur using three different methods, but in the case of the experiment conducted and described below, was performed using the method of heat shock. In the experiment, heat shock was used to genetically transform a piece of DNA from a jellyfish into a sample of E. coli bacteria to observe if the transformation would occur. The components necessary for the transformation were: pGLO, a plasmid acting as a vector for the transformation and contained the DNA segment extracted from jellyfish that encodes for the production of a protein that glows (GFP); Luria Bertani broth, the culture for the transformation; Ampicillin Resistant gene, to sort cells so only the cells having absorbed plasmid will survive; Arabinose, a sugar to aid in the growth of bacteria. The genetic transformation was tested using four samples, each having a different environment. The first sample s environment consisted of +pGLO, the Luria Bertani broth, and a gene resistant to Ampicillin. The second sample s environment consisted of +pGLO, the Luria Bertani broth, a gene resistant to Ampicillin, and arabinose. In his short story, ?The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber?, he definitely leaves his readers guessing. The question is whether Margot kills her husband, Francis, intentionally, or if she accidentally shoots him, because she tries to save his life. There are many points that could be argued for both conclusions, but my observations have led me to believe that Margot did indeed shoot her husband intentionally, however, without pre meditation. Later on in the story, the growth of Francis?s confidence during the buffalo hunt and Margot?s displeasure with it is the final clue in determination of the death of Francis Macomber. The buffalo hunt gives Francis a new found sense of ?happiness?. This ?new wealth? of confidence is powerful for Francis and devastating for Margot . ?Fear gone like an operation. Margot knew at this point that if Francis survives the trip, he might possess enough personal strength and finally leave her, and that is what encourages her decision to kill him. At the end of the story Wilson confirms the reader?s suspicion when he reacts to the shooting by saying to Margot, ?That was a pretty thing to do? (Hemindway). This fair was carefully engineered by the United States government to impart an uncivilized impression of Filipinos onto American fairgoers, thereby justifying the need for US involvement. In the preceding decade, the United States continually attempted to exert its influence over Spanish controlled Cuba. Although Spain had political control over Cuba, the United States had long been interested in annexing Cuba. This interest was initially sparked by commerce. By 1820, trade between the U.S. and Cuba had become so prevalent that many American politicians expected Cuba to become a part of the Union or an appendage to it. The narrator is disgusted with how everything has turned out, and asks in a refrain, What have I become? He is miserable, and considers his life and accomplishments (his empire of dirt ) worthless. • 36. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Epilepsy Business Understanding According to World Health Organisation (2017), around 50 million people worldwide have epilepsy. Unfortunately, epilepsy cannot be cured, but could be controlled by pharmacological or electrical treatment based on seizure prediction (Moghim Corne, 2014). Since EEG has advantages such as speed, high time resolution and non invasive natures, it maintains one of the most frequently used tools in predicting epilepsy (Hasan et al. 2017). Electroencephalography (EEG) has a broad use in both medical practices and medical research for diagnosing and identifying epileptic seizures, syncope (fainting), cognitive psychologies, and psychophysiological research (Niedermever, 2004). Commonly used in identifying epilepsy, the EEG helps the doctors to distinguish types of seizures, the reasons to trigger the seizures and also the treatment needed. Types of EEG are different according to test aims, facilities, medical and patients situations, and are generally separated into 4 types: Routine EEG, Sleep EEG, Ambulatory EEG and Video EEG. All of the types would record electrical activities of the brain, investigate their potential fluctuations and brain waves, and perform analysis to convert the data into useful information in identifying the seizures. Usually, the EEG test will last for 20 to 40 minutes, and will be conducted by attaching scalp with the electrodes which are connected to an EEG recording machine (NHS, 2017). There are three main cases to be solved in this project. First is to identify whether an EEG showing seizure or not. Second is to identify the 5 categories of EEG. Third is to identify the classification of EEG, whether it is indicating healthy brain activity, potential epileptic seizure or actual epileptic seizure. Data Understanding The given data set contains fields such as ID, X1 to X178 which represents the 1 second EEG result and y which represents the EEG type. Therefore, the placebo effect is often effective because the individual blindly believes that this new drug will work and cure them.[6] According to the The National Cancer Institute 1 in 3 people will actually experience the placebo effect. It s not just want you do to show that you are brave, it s also what you say. Tim O Brien shows readers how his characters in stories, that he s written based on his own experience, display different acts of bravery. Vietnam literature proves that Vietnam was bravery. Courage is another word for bravery, it s a synonym. O Brien uses the word courage in different parts of If I Die in a Combat Zone. However, I won t get started on that yet, first I ll explain the occasion of me learning about my identity. At almost the beginning of the year, it was announced in our English class that we would be doing an essay on our cultural identities. When my teacher announced this I thought to myself, What in the world is a cultural identity, or even my cultural identity? In these months, we have gotten to learn the definition of culture, and what it means to us, individually., I believe that culture means a group of people that share the same customs, way of life, and beliefs. Also, over these last couple of months we have been reading texts all about people knowing and understanding their cultural identities, meanwhile I still didn t understand my own. All I know is that I was born on February 11, 2002, I like movies and music, and my mom is from Chile and my Dad is from Virginia. Now that didn t feel like enough for me to write on, but then I started thinking about all of the cultural differences that my parents have had raising me as a person, and how those have all combined to make me. In my short 15 years of life, the culture clashes have sometimes affected me on my thoughts and opinions, which I ll talk about later on. As well as how movies and music have affected my perspectives and opinions. Now there are a lot of aspects that make me as a person, but the one I want to develop on the most would be the fact that I have been raised by two almost completely different cultures, my dad being raised in a more conservative setting, while my mom was raised in a more carefree, but still careful setting, but they both lived in similar living conditions, not having a lot of money, but they found ways in their times to overcome those issues and cope with them. Which makes them similar on how they have raised me and my two siblings, but still quite different in other aspects. Jonathan Sokolov The Treaty of Versailles was a monumental stage in German history, helping to shape German history for arguably the best part of thirty years. It can be argued that the Treaty was the most significant event since the unification of Germany in 1890. The short term consequences were also highly prominent as over 300,000 Germans fled to America in the years 1917 23. However this does not undermine the fact that the Treaty was highly influential in shaping German history. Finally the Treaty can be held responsible for the rise of Hitler in 1933. Moreover Hitler used the Treaty as a major campaigning point because many Germans were still aggrieved by the terns imposed by the Treaty, thus enabling Hitler s rise to prominence to be swift; however there are many extenuating factors, such as the Reichstag fire in 1933. Term Paper Christiaan Talbo Jan Whitmer Cliff Zyskowski December 9, 2015 Christiaan Talbo Psych Tech 155 Term Paper For this research paper my client will be known as H.C. This particular client has suffered from multiple diagnoses during his time at Sonoma Developmental Center (SDC). My client has lived at SDC since 1947, at the age of 13 years old. H.C. willingly came to SDC when his family could no longer cope with his behaviors. He liked to be independent and was an active worker when he worked at his job sites. H.C. had a bundle of past achievements that he enjoyed mentioning to his aides by pointing at pictures. At a frail age H.C. could do his activities of daily living, but needs assistance from time to time. Physically H.C. was a short man with balding white hair and had poor eyesight so he wore glasses. His walking gait was failing and his feet would shift against the floor, so he had a walker that he could use. He was socially withdrawn and would only communicate when he felt that his needs were pressed. He had trouble finding words to communicate what he wanted to say and would like to do things on his own rather than relying on staff. He also lived by his set schedule, so anytime there was an appointment set for him he needed to be reminded before his day began. Being at SDC would mean that there is an onset disease that would keep an individual being treated there from living individually or in a community setting. Most of the time it would be ... Old Ocean Case Study Oldcastle Precast of Avon, Conn. prefabricated a precast concrete pool and weir fish ladder, designed for a tributary to Hubbard Brook, Middletown, as part of the Connecticut Department of Transportation s State Route 410 (Aircraft Road) culvert rehabilitation project. The Connecticut Department of Transportation included a concrete pool and weir fish ladder to the culvert rehabilitation project under State Route 410 after learning about the benefits of a fish ladder, at this site, by the CT DEEP Inland Fisheries Division and the Fishery department. The new fish ladder is providing fish passage through the slip line repaired culvert. Slip lining entails installation of a smaller sized culvert to line and stabilize the existing culvert barrel that was deteriorating. The Connecticut DEEP and the Fishery department found multiple benefits to adding a fish passageway through this culvert since there are suitable instream brook trout spawning and rearing habitats upstream of the culvert. Additionally, the fish passageway would restore connectivity to over 1.4 miles of stream habitats. The upstream fish passage also benefits the diadromous American eel; whose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to the steep grade downstream of the culvert, a 6 inch vertical drop between pools was specified. Baffles were installed throughout the culvert to maintain a maximum elevation change of 6 inch water depth between each pool for fish navigation. To protect the fishway structure from scour and erosion, a rip rap swale (rock used to armor the streambed) was installed along the sides of the structure and outlet. At the fishway outlet, the rip rap swale blends into channel outlet protection that consists of a boulder weir that will create a pool to transition wildlife from a natural habitat to the fish ladder passageway ... • 53. Cant Hardly Wait Compared To The Canterbury Tales Canterbury Tales Compare/Contrast Essay Satire as described by the Webster dictionary is a way of using humor to show the weaknesses or bad qualities of a person, government, society, etc. One of the first examples of satirical English writing was Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales. The CanterburyTales revolve around an eclectic group of pilgrims on a religious journey to St. Thomas Beckett s shrine . The true intent of this classic tale was to expose all of 14th century England to the corruptness of the cast system in London. Chaucer executed his purpose by including characters of various statures into his story and discreetly criticizing them by using humor. In doing so he also criticized the morals of aristocracy at that time. Centuries later Chaucer s interpretation of society continues to be used in literature and other forms of art today. Can t Hardly Wait is an example of a film that embodies Chaucer s ideas. This cheesy 1990s classic romance is set at a high school graduation party. The main plot of a boy trying to get his dream girl is simply an unimportant factor compared to screenwriter Deborah Kaplan s true purpose: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Knight as described by Chaucer, is a man of great stature. Like other knights of this time, he was usually accompanied by royalty and had embarked with many a noble host (Canterbury 62). The Knight was a far cry from the corrupt characters in this tale because unlike them, he did not abuse his power. The attire of the Knight proved that he not only worked hard but also lived modestly. Although he was wealthy, his cloaks did not readily support that fact, for He wore a fustian tunic stained and dark (Canterbury 77). He was so admired for his chivalrous nature that many referred to him as a true, perfect gentle knight (Canterbury ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
