Essay on The Beginning of the N.F.L.
The Beginning of the N.F.L.
The year was 1920 and pro football was in a state of confusion. The three main problems that led
to all the confusion were, salaries rising, players jumping from team to team and the use of players
still enrolled in college. So, on August 20, 1920, a group of men representing the four current pro
teams met. When the day was done the American Professional Football Conference was born.
The A.P.F.C. was formed to make one governingbody over pro football. Then, on September 17,
1920, a second organizational meeting was held. At the second meeting the following teams
attended: the Akron Pros; Canton Bulldogs; Cleveland Ohio Indians; Dayton Ohio Triangles;
Decatur Illinois Staleys Athletic Club; Hammond ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On September 26, the first game, which featured an APFA team was played at Rock Island s
Douglas Park. A crowd of 800 watched the Independents defeat the St. Paul Ideals 48 0. A week
later, October 3, the first game matching two APFA teams was held. At Triangle Park, Dayton
defeated Columbus 14 0, with Lou Partlow of Dayton scoring the first touchdown in a game
between Association teams. The same day, Rock Island defeated Muncie 45 0. At the league
meeting in Akron, April 30, the championship of the 1920 season was awarded to the Akron Pros.
The APFA was later reorganized, they realized that Jim Thorpewas a better player then president.
So, they picked Joe Carr as the new president. Carr moved the Association s headquarters to
Columbus, drafted a league constitution and by laws, gave teams territorial rights, restricted
player movements, developed membership criteria for the franchises, and issued standings for
the first time. This made it that the APFA would have a clear champion. The league was also
increased to 22 teams. It was during this year that the Green Bay Packers were granted a
franchise. It was during the 1921 season, that Fritz Pollard was made the first black head coach in
the history of Pro Football.
The Chicago Statleys who would later become the Bears were crowned the 1921 league
champions. Nothing really big happened for the APFA in 1922 except for a name change,

Analysis Of Let It Snow By David Sedaris
In the short essay Let it Snow , David Sedaris recounts his 5th grade adventures during a week of
five consecutive snow days in North Carolina. The author shows how alcoholism affected his
family and explain that managed to explain that a life of a family can also be positive. Many
interesting points were brought up concerning raising children. Sedaris s article fulfills the
destinies intended for us, which will give our lives full meaning and how we children will end
up with all sorts of problems. Our presents had disrupted the secret life she led while we were at
school, and when she could no longer take it she threw us out (Quoted in Sedaris, 11). His mother
s extreme frustration of him and his sisters, the Sedaris clearly appeal to the reader s pathos. The
author managed to relate to adults who have been irritated with their children before, but he can
also relate to anyone who has ever been a childextremely excited by the idea of a snow day.
Moreover, Sedaris work was a powerful example of the anger, frustration, and the raw emotion is
felt by most parents when school is canceled. Firstly, David Sedaris essay, Let It Snow reflects
Sedaris past. It took place on a single day in his childhoodin North Carolina where Sedaris and his
siblings were home because the school was closed for few days because of bad weather. Their
mother s drinking problem affected the relationship that Sedaris mother had with him and his
sisters, which were the story is solely reflected on. In the story, the mother is very strict sounding
and harsh. Yelling Get the hell out of my house (Quoted in Sedaris 89) to the children is supporting
proof. She seemed to be an alcoholic who could not control her stress and emotions. The mother is
the main character in the story even though the story revolves around the children and their father.
However, the humor in the story was well settled that it turns a sad story into a ridiculous one.
Without the humor, the story would not have been effective because of the abuse that was going on
the story. For instance, the children being locked out in the cold weather is a form of abuse. The
children believed that their selfish mother wanted the house to themselves. They

Detroit Institute Of Art Case Study
The Detroit Institute of Art (DIA) is a museum founded in 1885 and continues to thrive in the
present day (Museum Fact Sheet). The people who own it could be the donors who give generously
towards maintaining the museum or the organizations that give grants to maintain the collections
for public viewing. Additionally, Macomb, Wayne and Oakland counties own shares in the property
because they have contributed towards a 10 years millage tax. There is a volunteer board of directors
that runs operations through supervising the museum director. This group invests its skills and
lends its consultancy towards supporting the museum on the basis of the 1997 agreement. The city
of Detroit owns the artwork, however, it cannot sell it without opposition from several corners....

The financial crisis has forced the governor (Rick Snyder) to take action and that is why he hired
an emergency manager, Kevyn Orr. The latter believes that the best way to deal with the
problem is to sell some highly priced items from the museum to cover the debts. According to
the law (Chapter 9 of the State Law), Orr has the right to sell some items as a form of protection
of the municipal from bankruptcy (Gallagher). On the other hand, there is no judge with the
capacity to force liquidation of the assets housed in the DIA. However, Orr s solution is not
clear cut as it faces several challenges. In the first place, the corporate groups and individuals who
have given to the DIA are likely to oppose the sale. The non profit board of directors alongside the
donors makes their decisions according to the Agreement of 1997 (Gallagher). Which prohibits
sale of art for other forms of public

Wealth In Haiti
5. What economic factors explain why Americans enjoy much more wealth than Haitians? It s
safe to say that Haiti is poor. Especially compared to the U.S. One of the causes for Haiti being so
poor just happens to be humans. They are entrenched in greed and power. The rulers there have
ensured Haiti s despair. Things like soil erosion, bad education system, illiteracy, unemployment,
inadequate roads, water systems, sewerage, and medical services are also some of the causes of
Haitis despair. The international community also has a lot to do with Haiti being so poor. But the
main root of Haiti s problems comes from their government. The rulers there have used beatings,
killings, illegal arrests and detentions, forced exiles etc., all to keep... Show more content on

There will always be someone else trying to sell your product for less money. Many monopolies
are enforced by government. One example would be operating a cab in New York City. You
would need a government issued medallion. The number of medallions are fixed which develops
profits for initial owners. The profits are not because of talents or resources, instead these profits
come by the absence of government enforcement of the medallion requirement. The government
enforcement of monopolies is an attempt to solve market failure. An example would be New
York City enforcing the medallion rules because they are under the assumption that if they don t
restrict cabs, there would be a lot more traffic jams in the city. When government enforcement of
monopolies is appointed for the well being of subset being granted a monopoly instead of the
well being of society, that is when greed steps in. But monopolies can also improve welfare. For
instance, a drug company developing new heart medication will pay lots of money in research
and development for perfecting the drug without selling anything to achieve revenue. It anticipates
that it will sell under a patent over some period of time and cover the development cost. If you
take away the monopoly it takes away the motivation to produce better drugs. So if markets are not
competitive then greed isn t really a problem. It is only a

A Theme of the Opera in Bel Canto by Ann Patchett
Bel Canto by Ann Patchett The theme of the novel draws its most core intensities from the art of
opera. Patchett fantastically utilizes the language and the pathos of music for the examination of
jungle born revolutionaries and the international hostages. This novel reflects our extraordinary
aptitude to structure emotional associations in improbable and shaky ways. Manette Ansay, author
of Midnight Champagne says: Let me put this plainly: Ann Patchetthas written the best book I
have read in a long, long time. Bel Canto is a masterpiece to its title, a beautiful song, and a
broad, bold entirely original love story destined to become an international classic. This is the
book we all wait for, the one we thrust into the hands of friends, saying, You ve got to read this!

The Private Affairs Of Rulers Have Fascinated Us Since The...
The private affairs of rulers have fascinated us since the beginning of civilization. Many people
tend to think of historical LGBT figures as being artists, authors, poets, and musicians, but they
occupied many powerful positions in government as well. In times where homosexuality could be
punishable by execution or torture, keeping these attractions a secret was often a matter of life
and death, especially for the monarchs who lived highly publicized lives. Through the discovery
of love letters, journal entries, and first person accounts, historians have been able to uncover the
enigmatic relationships of some of history s most influential rulers and their same sex lovers. 10.

His obsession with witch hunts inspired Shakespeare s Macbeth , and he was known to watch
suspected witches being tortured for information. He also was responsible for the King James
Bible, the modern translation we still use today. Outside of his marriage, James had close
relationships with many of his male courtiers. James was said to be especially close to George
Villiers, who James later made Duke of Buckingham. Poet ThГ©ophile de Viau said it is well
known that the king of England has union with the Duke of Buckingham , and the Duke himself
revealed in a letter (link 2) that he had slept in the same bed as the king many times. In fact,
secret passages have been found in James castle linking his bedroom to the room of the Duke.
Before his involvement with the Duke of Buckingham, James also showed an interest in Robert

The Novel The Expedition Of Humphry Clinker By Tobias...
The epistolary novel, a novel that is written entirely in the form of letters, first gained traction in
the early 18th century. Two epistolary novels that encapsulated this style very well were
Dangerous Liaisons and Evelina. The similarities are also not solely in terms of writing style. Both
of these authors use the letters that their characters write as a method of deception to obtain what
they truly desire, even if it does not appear as such. Despite the divide that separates them in genre,
both Burney and Laclos exhibited this style very well as the authors used these letters to convey
their characters goals, intentions, and desires to the reader in their works.
We will first examine the novel by Pierre Ambrose Laclos, Dangerous Liaisons. There are a few
reasons why Laclos letters provided a sense of importance stylistically. Dangerous Liaisons was
not a typical work, as it was the first French epistolary novel to use more than one perspective
(Brittanica). As we know The Expedition of Humphry Clinker by Tobias Smollett was published
in 1771, had multiple perspectives displayed through letters, but Smollett was a Scot, and his
work was set in both England and Scotland. His work was never able to gain much popularity in
France. French literature in general did not implore this style; they usually followed a more
traditionalist model when it came to the novel. He was also the first French author to employ letters
that were not designed solely for reporting events.

Describe How To Curl Your Hair Essay
How to Curl Your Hair Madison Schiernbeck We all have those days as girl where we want to
look nice or fancy for a special reason but, not all the time do we know how to do that. Some
might want to curl their hair but not know how to. There are many ways, this way is typically
the easiest. First you re going to want to gather all of your supplies you are going to need to curl
your hair. That includes a curling iron, brush, comb, iron protectant spray, hair spray, and clips.
Next you re going to want to plug your iron in, that way it is hot enough when you are ready to
start curling your hair. There are variations of curling irons you can use depending of the size of
curls you want for your specific style. Once you finished choosing the iron you, start parting your

iron protectant spray so you don t burn or damage your hair. Now you can begin curling. If you
want loose curls you are going to want to use a fatter iron. If you want a little bit of a tighter curl
your going to want a medium sized curling iron. To curl your hair, you need to find the piece you
want to curl with first. You should comb out that strand of hair before you curl it so that it looks
smooth. When you curl your hair, start at the top and work your way to the bottom of the hair.
Continue doing this until you are done with that section. After you finish each section spray hair
spray on that section so that the curl will stay. Once you re done with that step, you move to the

Cause Of Air Pollution Essay
Air pollution is the introduction of chemicals, particulate matter, or biological materials that cause
harm or discomfort to humans or other living organisms, or cause damage to the natural
environment or built environment, into the atmosphere.
The atmosphere is a complex dynamic natural gaseous system that is essential to support life on
planet Earth. Stratospheric ozone depletiondue to air pollution has long been recognized as a threat
to human health as well as to the Earth s ecosystems.
Indoor air pollution and urban air quality are listed as two of the world s worst pollution problems

Smog is a kind of air pollution; the word smog is a portmanteau of smoke and fog. Classic smog
results from large amounts of coal burning in an area caused by a mixture of smoke and sulfur
dioxide. Modern smog does not usually come from coal but from vehicular and industrial emissions
that are acted on in the atmosphere by ultraviolet light from the sun to form secondary pollutants
that also combine with the primary emissions to form photochemical smog.
Ground level ozone (O3) formed from NOx and VOCs. Ozone (O3) is a key constituent of the
troposphere (it is also an important constituent of certain regions of the stratosphere commonly
known as the Ozone layer). Photochemical and chemical reactions involving it drive many of the
chemical processes that occur in the atmosphere by day and by night. At abnormally high
concentrations brought about by human activities (largely the combustion of fossil fuel), it is a
pollutant, and a constituent of smog.
Peroxyacetyl nitrate (PAN) similarly formed from NOx and VOCs.
Minor air pollutants include:
A large number of minor hazardous air pollutants. Some of these are regulated in USA under the
Clean Air Act and in Europe under the Air Framework Directive.
A variety of persistent organic pollutants, which can attach to particulate matter.
Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are organic compounds that are resistant to

Hermit in Paris by Italo Calvino
Italo Calvino (2004) describes his perspective from a distance in Hermit in Paris ; from places he
has lived all throughout his life, the places where he has been a tourist, and a visitor. Calvino has
personal relationships with places and has a personal opinion where he believes Europe is
emerging into one single city(Calvino, 2004, p. 2). He is tolerant of other people s opinions and
continues to portray his own feelings rather than following others discretions. Most cities are
known through media and books and that s how people who have not experienced these cities see
the town. You need to escape spaces mentally and physically by connecting or disconnecting
yourself from a place that does not create happiness.
The first visit that I can recall such an impression was in my heritage landmark (Rawhiti) I got to
know what it is like was during my early teens when I attended an unveiling with my close
relations. I had imagined the place to be dirty and filthy, but it wasn t, it was just basic. I had
imagined Rawhiti through early distant memories as well as what I thought I knew from media
and movies of what remote coastal towns with a Maori population are like, I immediately
pictured the movie Boy (2010) as a similar setting to Rawhiti. I had a preconceived idea of what
the community is like, part of that community through family, but not personally as I had been
away from there all my life. To me, I had a false interpretation of this place; I used other people s

Classification Of Soils As Well As Overcoming Management...
Introduction
Soil classification is the categorisation of soils into groups at various levels of generalisation
according to their physical, chemical and mineralogical properties (Boul et al 2011:34). The
formation and subsequently the classification of soil has been at the forefront of geological
scientific research since its emergence in the 19th Century.
Over the course of this essay I will be considering the various classifications of soils as well as
overcoming management problems they may entail.
How can soil be classified in the UK?
It is important to be able to distinguish between soil types across farmed landscape, and
classification is the main way this can be achieved (Soffe, 2003:24). One common practice used to
record classification is through mapping; carried out on varying scales by National Soil Resources
Institute for England and Wales based on differences and similarities in soil profile investigations
(Soffe, 2003:24; Simpson 1983:47).
Soils can be classified based on their structural and textural properties, formed from Parent
material (Soffe 2003:23). The primary components of soil comprise the Texture, this relating to
the range of sizes of particles in the soil and their distribution. (The Macaulay Institute,
2016;Soffe, 2003:3). The texture of specific soil types will fall into one of 4 classifications; Clay,
Silt, Sand or in some cases an equal percentage of each to form Loam.
Soil Structure is influenced almost solely by Soil Texture (The

An Insight Into The Qos Techniques
The following paper gives an insight into the QoS Techniques. It will first introduce the concept
of Quality of Service. Then it will provide an understanding about the important of QoS in
today s computer networking world followed by discussion of various new QoS techniques
being researched and implemented.
As the name goes QoS deal with the overall performance of a system or a computer network.
Since it is in regards to the service being, provided we are mainly concerned with the
performance factor as seen by the users of our system or the network [6]. Here the idea is to
measure and improve several aspects of network service like transmission rate, bit rate, error
rate, jitters, network availability etc. [6] A plus would... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a continuous ongoing research on QoS procedures that can be
deployed in various different network type, An RSVP technique for resource allocation is
implemented by using the parameterized approach, Unlike packet switched network, some
circuit switched network does not need special QoS procedure as the mechanism are
implemented in the core protocol definitions, some even implement the alternative of providing
high load to the network so that the estimates are based on peak time traffic and would work well
in all conditions, Some QoS mechanisms are defined in the protocols, Some services also
implement mobile QoS techniques, While some others will set definitive standards which require
QoS mechanisms for its fulfillment, Thus irrespective of the way it is implemented QoS is an
important networking attribute.

The Body Language
The term kinesics was coined by anthropologist Ray Birdwhistell in 1952 and refers to the
interpretation of body movements, facial expressions, and gestures. Understanding the grammar of
kinesics can be difficult because it requires careful longitudinal observations and are situationally
dependent. To add to the issues not everyone has the same body language, however, some
nonverbal behaviors are believed to originate from the limbic brain and are universal.
Much of the interpretation of kinesics seems to be in some cases speculative offering a range of
possibilities and other interpretations are obvious. For example nail biting is obviously nervous
behavior that I think all people recognize. However, Joe Navarro claims that bouncing ... Show

It records memories of behaviors and is responsible for what we call emotions. The hippocampus,
amygdala, and hypothalamus are the main components of the limbic brain. The limbic brain is
where make value judgments that influence on our behavior. It is thought that this part of the brain
reacts reflexively and is difficult to disguise or eliminate.
The neocortex first appeared in primates and is most developed in humans. These developed
hemispheres are thought to be responsible for the development of language, abstract thought, and
consciousness. The neocortex has almost limitless learning abilities. However, the reptilian, limbic,
and neocortex do not operate independently. They have many connections with one another.
Terms for these parts of the brain originated in the 1940s, and some neuroscientists have suggested
that the concept should be abandoned. However, while the limbic system remains the predominate
explanation (both in neuroscience and popular culture) of how the brain makes emotion, it is a
flawed and inadequate theory of the emotional brain (LeDoux 2003). The limbic system theory has
trouble explaining why damage to limbic areas like the hippocampus can result in deficits with
cognition and memory. When the limbic system is activated in a purely cognitive task it is
assumed that there must have been some emotional component to the task. Many researchers seem
to think this explanation is based in tradition rather than facts.

Creative Self Efficacy
Creative self efficacy, which refers to the employee s beliefs about his/her ability to perform the
job creatively, may relate to company image (AragГіn Correa et al., 2007, Wang and Lin, 2012,
Gong et al., 2009). For instance, AragГіn Correa et al. (2007) have investigated the relationship
between leadership and organisational learning s role on innovation and performance. They
employed SEM as the analysis tool with 408 useable questionnaires (response rate 45.33%).
AragГіn Correa et al. assert that firm innovation has a positive impact on organisational
performance. Accordingly, organisational learning s role on innovation may relate to creative self
efficacy which refers to employee s ability to perform the job in innovative way. Whilst, one of
organisational performance indicator is companyimage. Hence, it may assume that creative
efficacy may lead to company image. Moreover, Wang and Lin (2012) have examined the
antecedents of innovation performance. They conducted their study in Taiwan by using 302
responses from 30 large IT companies (response rate 67.11%). Wang and Lin reveal that
innovation self efficacy leads to innovation performance. Innovation performance may relate to
organisational performance. Whilst, one of organisational performance indicators is company
image. Arguably, creative efficacy may also have an impact on company image. For example,
when a company has a better employee s creative self efficacy, its employees will perform their job

Homeric Values In Electra By Euripides
Throughout the play Electra by Euripides there are many instances of the author using the character
Electra to attack homeric values. Homeric values are values expected of a hero. These values
include birth, social status, martial virtues, courage, physical strength, and skill in things such as
planning, organizing, and making war. Homeric culture was very important at one point. Many
times throughout this play, the character Electra says something she believes about another
character that goes along with/are invested with the homeric values. Euripidesthen has that
character do the very opposite to almost everything Electra claims. Electra is being used as a
symbol to criticize the customs and traditions of homeric values. Each time she is contradicted it is
an insult to the homeric values.
One example of this is found in the second episode of the play. The Old Man shows up at Electra s
house after passing by Agamemnon s grave. He tells her how he noticed a sacrifice on
Agamemnon s alter and tells her that he believes Orestes is there is disguise. This infuriates Electra
and she responds to him by saying:
What your saying makes you sound stupid, old man, if you think my brave brother has come to the
country in secret out of fear of Aegisthus. ( Euripides 26).
With this she is saying her brother is too brave to hide. This is a normal thing expected in a
homeric culture. Men/heroes are supposed to be brave and have the courage to fight. This is soon
contradicted when she

The nature of the iterations will not necessarily change much; but the longevity of the software
produced will certainly increase. Early iterations (usually in the inception phase) have a tendency
to be thrown out. During elaboration, you will discover the rest of the use cases (or at least their
first approximations) and will implement the minimal set. During construction, users will drive
towards giving the customer the minimum system that they need. The nature of the iterations will
not change much, but your focus will be on identifying the smallest possible deliverable that will
still meet at least some of the customers needs. During construction, the use cases will change a
bit as the customer sees the growing system and feeds changes back to you. During transition,
users will drive towards fleshing out the functionality of the system, and incorporating the mounds
of customer feedback that users are surely to get. The nature of your iterations will not change
much. During transition, the use cases are likely to undergo drastic changes as the customers
actually use the system and realize that it is not exactly what they needed. Again, the essence of
RUP is iteration, and the essence of iteration is the production of executable deliverables. Users
may also be producing UML diagrams, or some other form of model too. Such models take two
forms. One is a model of the architecture, which is seeded during inception and established during

Introduction
L.F., is a 74 year old female with limited mobility, and a history of falls (and at risk for falls), who
was diagnosed with age related osteoporosis, a lumbar compression fracture, collapsed vertebra,
and she also suffers from morbid obesity. Resident was admitted to a long term care facility in

Other risk factors involve small stature, early menopause, underweight, low dietary calcium and
vitamin D, anorexia, malabsorption, history of smoking, extreme alcohol consumption, and
hyperparathyroidism (Crowther Radulewics McCance, 2012). Causes of osteoporosis vary,
however the developing process of the disease is the same, which occurs during the remodeling
cycle of the bone in which disruption of formation and resorption takes place (Crowther
Radulewics McCance, 2012). Jarvis (2016) discusses that the bones most often affected, are
those of the wrist, hip, and spine. Perhaps L.F. s lumbar compression fracture, collapsed vertebra,
and a history of falling is related to her age related osteoporosis. Jarvis (2016) additionally
described the principal issue of life with osteoporosis is the increased risk of fractures.

Beauty and the Geek
Watching television is one of usually pastimes for people, especially watching reality television.
According to the Oxford dictionary reality television is a television programs in which real people
are continuously filmed, designed to be entertaining rather than informative (Oxford). Beauty and
the Geekpairs together Geeks (socially inelegant nerd breeds) and Beauties (beautiful women
handpicked for depicting bimbos), who then take on challenges. Each week one couple is forced to
leave the house and the last remaining couple wins $250,000 in prizes. Along the way the geeks are
renovated, and the beauties learn various things about geek culture. Beauty and the geek amplifies a
negative stereotypeof men and women enforced by pairing smart, nerdy men with women focused
on looks.
By asking the women carefully selected questions, they are made to look ditzy enforcing the
negative stereotype. Before the beauties were chosen for the show they were interviewed, taped
and further asked a few uncomplicated questions but to them were quite complex for they looked
confused and puzzled after being questioned. Sim Ahmed talks about when the producers were
scouting for beauties, they looked for several things: Gorgeous women that were preened and
ready to take center stage, but ask their opinion on politics, the solution to a mathematical equation,
or how to reboot a hard drive and they ll be stumped (Ahmed). Nadia Underwood was asked in her

Medical Injection
Traditional injection uses a syringe to insert liquid into body. The purpose of medical injection is to
pierce the material into the sufficient depth of skin. This kind of injection needs to use large
number of syringe needles, and according to [62],clients reported that an average of 8.7% of
injections employed shared syringe needles. Data from the Coalition for safe Community
Needle Disposal showed that in the year of 2011, 13.5 million people in the United States
produced 7.8 billion used sharps(needles, syringes, etc.) outside the traditional healthcare, and 1
million to 1.5 million of needles were used for illegal drug injections. Since blood borne
infections, like HIV, HBV, and HCV, can be commonly spread by sharing intravenous syringes,
huge number of substandard and illegal use of needles compares to share rate of 8.7%, the
potential spread of these infections cannot be ignored. Meanwhile, on the other side, the
application of micro needle can to large extent avoid this from its source. Micro needles, which are
recently developed by the Georgia Institute of Technology and the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention(CDC) [63, 64], are small patches that can be administered by untrained users. Small

The Oscar Whiteness Machine, By Richard Brody
The Oscar Whiteness Machine, written by Richard Brody, was published in the online The New
Yorker January 21st, 2016. The author has written for the New Yorker since 1999 and has been
one of their white movie critics, one of the subjects of this article, since 2005. In the Article Brody
takes the stance of a social justice warrior, proclaiming war on all those complicit in the disparity
between whiteand black; especially in the filmarena. His subject changes with paragraphs, movie
critics, Oscar nominees and watchers, readers of the article, and anyone discriminatory. The
Oscar Whiteness Machine is a mix of genres but it gets its main point across, black people have
been discriminated against in the Oscars, and in life, and the film business plays a role in the
suppression of black culture. We honor the best and whitest. Neil Patrick Harris s opening line
at the Oscars in 2015 does a good job at pointing out one of the flaws of the award show that
Richard Brody so passionately writes about. The article, while aimed at the Oscars, however,
encompasses a wider issue. According to Brody this issue is the whiting out of movies about
black experience. and looking at the past two years of nominations and winners, I wouldn t say

The R V. Dudley And Stephens Case Essay
The R v. Dudley and Stephens case occurred in 1884. In May of that year, four men left
Southampton, England for Australia on the Mignonette, a private sailing yacht. These men
were Captain Thomas Dudley (31), mate Edward Stephens (36), seaman Edmond Brooks (38),
and cabin boy Richard Parker (17). While crossing the South Atlantic near the Cape of Good
Hope in July, bad weather struck the yacht and it sunk. The men managed to escape into the
lifeboat, and two one pound tins of turnips were the only food they subsisted on for four days.
They caught a small turtle on the fourth day that lasted eight days, and were without food for
another eight days after. The only fresh water they had was the rain that came from time to time.
On the sixteenth day of drifting Richard Parker became ill from drinking seawater. On the
eighteenth day Dudley and Stephens approached Brooks with the idea that they should sacrifice
one person to save the rest. Brooks dissented, and they did not consult Parker as he was ill. On
July 24th Dudley and Stephens reasoned with Brooks, saying that since they had families to
take care of it was most logical to kill the boy and save themselves. They proposed that if there were
no vessels in sight the next day they would kill Parker. As there were no vessels, Dudley killed
Parker by slitting his throat; the boy was so ill he did not resist. Brooks dissented until Parker s
death, but also fed on the blood and flesh of Parker with the two accused for four days.

Despite the recent downturn in revenue, the Coffee and Snack Shops industry is mature. For
these reasons, industry research firm IBIS World has updated a report on the Coffee Snack
Shops industry in its growing industry report collection. According to IBIS World Industry
Report, in the five years to 2014, industry revenue is expected to increase an annualized 2.7% to
$30.2 billion. This trend is expected to continue into 2014, with an expected growth of 1.4%.
Major operators like Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts are expected to expand their menus in the five
years to 2019 in order to increase sales and access higher profit margins. Both Starbucks and
Dunkin Donuts plan on rolling out hundreds of new stores over the next five years, making up for
lost ground they experienced during the recession. Dunkin , which is highly concentrated in the
east, is aiming to expand westward to steal market share from local competitors. The major chains
are also expected to invest more in international growth as part of a long term strategy, because
many larger players view emerging economies as markets with huge potential for growth and long
term profitability. (Lauren Robi, An Analysis of Starbucks as a Company and an International
Business, 2011)

Analysis Of Alison Bechdel s Fun Home
In Alison Bechdel s Fun Home, the author enlightens us with her struggles in determining her
gender identity and sexuality. She does this in a very unique fashion. Alison, throughout the novel,
uses specific pieces of literature and writing in order for the reader to decipher her true emotions
and feelings toward her sexuality. On top of that, Bechdel writes her story in order to show how
these objects play a much deeper role between not only comprehending her sexuality, but her
understanding of her choppy relationship with her father. The end result is a series of connections
that bring the two closer together than they ever were. Alison begins to question her sexuality in the
third chapter of the novel. She discusses how her... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the reader is able to fully realize that Bruce is a homosexual, her perfectionism abruptly
makes more sense. Clearly, Bruce is using his dedication towards the Fun Home as a way to hide
away his true feelings towards his sexuality. This would explain why he also tries to get Alison
to be more feminine, because he doesn t want her to be in that phase of confusion and not being
able to fully come out. Going back to the scene with the phone call, because Alison has fully
come out as being a lesbian, we now understand why Bruce acted so accepting of the realization.
Another book that plays a role in this central theme of confusion towards one s true identity is
The Catcher in the Rye. While the novel has many examples of books with hidden uncovering
messages, the most prominent in my opinion is The Catcher in the Rye. In the scene where The
Catcher in the Rye is mentioned, Alison is in her father s english class and she s the only person
answering his questions. What s interesting is that when her father initially asks her to read the
book, she responds that she ll do it after I put you in the nursing home (Bechdel 198). While it
seems that Alison is going to chose not to read the book in order to resent her father, in the very
next panel she s answering all of his questions. Her father is impressed and tells her that she s the
only one in that class worth teaching and Alison responds with It s the only class I have worth

Compare And Contrast All In The Family
1.)How is this TV show different from shows of today? How is it similar?
All in the Family differs from show of today in many ways. The many derogatory and racist
terms, used primarily by Archie Bunker, would not be able to said in a script for a modern day
television show. Words and terms used to describe people of any non American race or people in
general would be seen as non politically correct. The common racism theme throughout the show
would degrade the idea of American equality, which is a vital necessity in our growing nation. The
show also mocked religion, referring to a burning cross and roasting marshmallows over it. This
kind of comment would create a national eruption of offended individuals. Today s television
shows are reviewed to portray a politically correct message, or a decline in reputation will occur
for anyone involved with the show. While All in the Familygreatly differs from modern American
television shows, it also contains some similarities. The show portrayed an overall theme of
how people talked and acted in their daily lives compared to a fictional or dramatized movie or
television show. In the 1971 show premier, racial inequality was a common theme in American
society. The way Archie talked about others, and even the disrespect to his son in law and
mocking of his wife, was common. This slang was honest and normal to the Bunkers, which
showed real world issues with racism and family interaction. Many real world issues are also

Last but not least, the fee structure of hedge funds is quite unique. The fees are much higher than
regular institutional fund managers. The administrative fee usually range from 1 % to 2% of the

The Importance Of Interracial Marriage
History has its fair share in learning to accept different customs and cultural aspects in many
countries. Interracial marriage, for example, was legalized just fifty years ago in the United States
and questioned whether or not the cohesion of two different races through culture is a positive
outcome. Despite the worrisome idea of clashing beliefs, interracial marriagecan open a new
learning experience and bring acceptance amongst mixing cultures, races, and religions.
To start off, the cohesion of different races through marriage have reactions that vary widely
around the world. In the United States, at least one in six newlyweds in 2015 are involved in an
interracial marriage (Holland 2017). Consequently, as interracial marriage arises, some sites such as
https://texasformarriage.org, suggest that these relationships allow for the ability to learn more
about a new culture and to chip away at stereotypes formed by society. With this new learning
curve, people are more open to accept different viewpoints as they learn from their significant
other, especially if they still hold up to many traditions passed on by their family. To add on, as
people begin to learn more about other cultures that surround them, they open up to having a new
perspective about differing cultures and naturally break away from the stereotypes built by society.
Thus, as interracial marriage becomes more common, acceptance of other cultures and cultural
beliefs increases as well.

The Significance Of White Collar Crime, And White Collar...
When we hear the word crime, we automatically assume that it involves criminal or civil crimes.
These crimes usually involve people in robberies, murders, or even injuries. However, there are
also crimes that are committed by a company or a business. Business crimes or white collar crimes
are crimes committed by a businesses or government professional. These crimes are often
committed using confidential information attained by an individual to commit fraud. There are
diverse types of white collar crimes, including tax fraud, telemarketing fraud, and insider trading.
White collar crimewas first introduced by Edwin Sutherland in a presidential address to the
American Sociological Society in 1939. During this address, he discussed the importance of these
crimes and why they should be considered crimes (Shover 133). The reason that these crimes are
often overlooked or not discussed are because of the difference in backgrounds and characteristics
of the parties involved. The Internal Revenue Service(IRS) was established to carry out duties to
the Secretary of Treasury. Under Code Sec 7801, the Secretary of Treasury reserves the right to
establish any agency to help enforce revenue laws (Rettig 59). Thus, the IRS Criminal
Investigation Unit was created on July 1, 1919, for the sole purpose of investigating claims of tax
fraud (The History of IRS Criminal Investigation (CI)). Tax fraud is one type of white collar crime,

Social Democrats And Neo Liberals
Both social democrats and neo liberals claim to support a free society. This essay will discuss
how and why their visions of freedom diverge. This essay will focus on the social vision of
social democracy and neo liberalism, as freedom is subject to this vision. The social vision
involves the society and its values. What kind of society does the ideology want and how do they
want to achieve this kind of society? This essay will discuss the social democratic vision of
freedom, the neo liberal vision of freedom and will then argue how and why their visions diverge.
As a hybrid ideology, social democracy took shape around the mid twentieth century, resulting from
the tendency among western socialist parties not only to adopt parliamentary strategies, but also to
revise their socialist goals. In particular, they abandoned the goal of abolishing capitalism and
sought instead to reform or humanize it. Being based on a compromise between the market and the
state, social democracy lacks a systematic underlying theory and is, arguably, inherently vague. This
revisionist socialism has been primarily concerned with social justice, a just or fair distribution of
wealth in society (Heywood 2012, pp. 125 129). In contrast with many liberals, social democrats
believe that freedom has financial and social preconditions. It is not only about securing negative
freedoms, but ensuring what is called positive freedom . Freedom must be legally ensured and
effectively guaranteed. Similarly

It was because the appearance of Kenneth O Donnell is much more appealing to the average
American. He is the perfect protagonist, just an average middle class American trying to do the

be made for entertainment purposes as Thirteen Days is a movie and not a documentary.
Another less criticized aspect of the movie veering from 100% historical accuracy is that
nothing is said about President Kennedy s interests in ridding Fidel Castro of Cuba but in
reality he had been made aware of secret missions into Cuba prior to the Bay of Pigs. As well as

Symbolism In Hope Dies Last
Organizations seek of symbolism from the edifices they work in to their mascots, colors, and

Barn Burning Sarty Character Analysis
Blinded by Loyalty
The word loyalty can be broken down into its main term, loyal. To be loyal is to show dedication
to an ideology, individual, or group whom presumably all share the same beliefs. For instance,
many people use either Apple or Android cell phones. It is not that one is better than the other, it is
usually just what a person has grown up using. This can be described as brand loyal. In Barn
Burning the family loyalty theme is made evident throughout the story by bringing to light the
dynamic in which the Snopes family is expected to act with emphasis on a strong, harsh father and
a son with underlying values that differ from those of his family.
Faulkner begins the story by jumping right into a court room scene involving Abner ... Show more

Obeying is the basic principle in loyalty, one in which Sarty cannot differ between. For him
loyalty is pleasing his father no matter what the consequence. That is until he can break free
from the oppression of loyalty and finally see that it was loyalty that was blinding his true
character. It is not until 20 years later that Sarty realizes that society wanted only truth, justice
(Faulkner 3). It was not society whom demanded extreme loyalty, it was merely his family and
more specifically his power hungry father. Abner at one point in the story takes it as far as to tell
Sarty to stick to his families own blood because if not then he would have no one else to rely on
(Faulkner 3). This shallow threat is yet another attack on a boy that aims to please his father, but
is so caught in the middle of his battle with loyalty and self that he can be depicted as flying and
being removed or suspended from the ground (Kirchdorfer 116). Sarty wishes to escape his reality
and be in a world where he doesn t have these bouts with loyalty where his feet do not feel the floor
under them (Faulkner

South Afric A Unique Culture
The first time I was introduced to South Africa was last year during choir. For choir we sang a
South African ritual which enticed me to look into the culture of South Africa to find out more
things about my new found interest. During this investigation I found out that South Africa is
prominent for their unique wild life, it is the only country which has hosted the world cup for
cricket, rugby, and soccer, the vast history due to the colonialization of Africaby Europe, and the
luxurious bodies of water found in South Africa. Also during my research I found out that
Woodberry offers an exchange program to South Africa, which I became extremely interested in. I
would love to do this program so that I can interact with the unique culture seen in South Africa, the
great person who would be attending St. Johns, and the great friendships and experiences I would
receive while attending St. Johns. The unique culture which is found in South Africa is extremely
interesting to me. South Africa is known for many things, however three stand out the most. The
history of South Africa, the sports of South Africa, and the wildlife found in South Africa. South
Africa is rich with history due to the colonization by European countries which occurred in South
Africa. Through this a white superiority was created which lasted up until Nelson Mandela took
power. Due to the rise of Nelson Mandela, and the colonization period of South Africa, South Africa
is filled with multiple breathe taking

IPSec and Network Security Essay
IPSec is a framework which utilizes a set of IETF protocols to offer end to end IP security using
strong encryption, public and private key pair cryptography. IPSec secures communication links
that could experience network security issues like corruption, eavesdropping, misused data etc
(Pezeshki et al 2007) when not secured. However, using IPSec tends to also have an adverse effect
on router utilization and overall network performance. One of the major issues with IPSec is
performance degradation and throughput (Berger, 2006) which goes back to the complex
authentication and encapsulation techniques. Data protection tends to increase required bandwidth;
security transformation reduces performance and delays data processing and... Show more content

Adding IPSec VPN technology appears to come with high data processing cost and additional
complexity. IPSec is slow in establishing connection. This adds to delay in establishing
authenticated connections degrading network service levels and user productivity (Pezeshki, et
al.2007). Using IKE initially to negotiate security usually increases time of connection by one to
three seconds depending on the network rounding time, policy design and required load on
system to establish connection. IPSec protection tends to adds overheads to IP packets. The use
of IKE, ESP, Cryptography and digital signature generation and Diffie Hellman computations
(Shue, et al 2007; Fujimoto and Takenaka, 2006) all cause overheads and this increases network
utilization and reduces effective throughput especially when multiple clients connect to it
simultaneously. The interaction of IPSec VPNs and firewalls in practice may cause problems
(Berger, 2006; Adeyinka, 2008b). A strict firewall policy may prevent adoption of IPSec packets.
This is because ESP and AH encapsulates IP payloads by adding security header to each packet
making it difficult to interpret IPSec protected packets by existing network management. The
presence of NAT could also lead to a wrong process of IP packets because NAT devices checks and
modifies the packet port address which is encrypted by IPSec packet (Mei and Zhang, 2009).
Interoperability is another issue with IPSec VPN

Argumentative Essay On Service Animals
Author Anthony Douglas Williams once said, We have more to learn from animals than animals
have to learn from us, (A Z Quotes), but what most people fail to assimilate is that animals have
given humans erudition on many subjects. Throughout history, animals have helped with
advancements in science, contributing to new ideas to keep people safe and healthy. Moreover,
they continue to help humankind every second of the day, and will continue to do so as science
and technology evolve.
A multitude of traits qualifies animals to work as service animals. The variety of types of service
animals are Assistance Animals, Psychiatric Service Dogs, Emotional Support Animals, and

Vertical Integration Definition
Results
Pricing: It is evident from all of the studies reviewed that integration of physicians into hospital
based system results in increased pricing. Another noteworthy finding is that some studies also
showed that integration results in higher expenditures which are contrary to what is touted as a
benefit of integration, i.e. more efficient care and a reduction of unnecessary or duplicative testing.
Quality Patient Satisfaction: The literature also demonstrates that vertical integration does not lead
to improvements in the quality of care or patient satisfaction. In fact, the results of the studies show
that compared to hospitals, physician run enterprises deliver higher quality care, which was
generally established through lower hospital ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Global Problem of Harveting Organs
The harvesting of organs is a huge problem worldwide. The sale of organs may result in an
individual being murdered simply for his or her organs (Hongda.) In order to buy food
impoverished families only choice may be to sell their organs (Callahan.) Those who are
precipitants of organs coming from Inmates are taking huge health risk. Jeff Testerman, author of
Organs of Condemned sought for Transplant , stated The prison population is such a high risk
group, particularly for hepatitis and AIDS. When someone receives an organ from a donor
within a prison s walls, they are not always assured of the health security of the prisoner s organs
of which they are getting. There are many tragic stories told of someone being abducted, murdered,
or sedated all just for his or her kidneys. These stories are not fictional but a shocking reality
(Callahan.) Over 10,000 illegal organ transplants are taking place every year (Campbell.) As
improvements in technology and medicine are made the number of organ transplants per year also
increase, due to the escalating amount of sources (Hongda.) The Chinese government needs to
constitute and enforce laws prohibiting the exploitation of organ harvesting. There are limited laws
that regulate the harvesting of organs overseas. The Declaration of Istanbul of 2008 was put into
motion by all one hundred nations. This was a statement against global organ exploitation
(Campbell.) The Declaration of Istanbul however does not prohibit the harvesting

Dojo Observation
The dojo I visited is the dojo Buena Park known as Chushinkan Dojo which is taught by
Nakayama Sensei. I visited the dojo on Thursday, November 12, 2015. I did have general
observations of the dojo, the class, the instructor, and the training. There were techniques I
recognized and a new Aikido concept I have not experienced before. There was a technique I found
interesting. There was not much a difference in learning from CSUF and the dojo. The most
interesting part of my visit was watching students test.
I had general observations about the dojo, the class, the instructor, and the training. The dojo did
not have its own property and was inside a community center, this was something I did not expect.
In this Aikido course in CSUF, I remember ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some students did better than others which is usual for testings. In the Aikido course I remember
when Sensei would speak about how an actual dojo has people who are determined with Aikido and
are more serious with Aikido than the regular student in the Aikido course. I could understand what
Sensei meant because I could see the determination and hard work these students have when they
do testing. They put the most effort they can when testing compared to the students in the Aikido
course. The most significant part was that after students finished their test there was encouragement
to applause, and this shows that the students admired each other in their hard work and dedication.
This applause and admiration is not that common in our Aikido course sessions because it is
apparent that people who have determination with Aikido have more enthusiasm and love for it.
I visited the Chushinkan Dojo in Buena Park and learned a little more about Aikido not mainly in
techniques, but how Aikido is viewed in a different setting such as an actual dojo where
individuals are serious with Aikido. There were techniques I recognized and a new Aikido
concept I have not experienced before. I admire how Aikido is usually done not for profit but for
sharing Aikido with others, which is seen when the dojo is in a community center. The dojo visit
was actually an interesting experience

The Importance Of Pesticides In New Hampshire
Pesticides in New Hampshire Civics 1.04 Read an Article Madison Beaton New Hampshire is
known for having many farms spread out throughout the state, especially in Coos County.
Because of this, many bugs come to survive off of the crops that grow here. If bugs keep eating
the plants, then the quality of the crop will go down. It s not just bugs that come to live off the
plants, it is also animals like deer, bears, moose, and many more. All of these pests coming to steal
and eat the plants can cause the land to lose moisture and lower the quality as well. This has
affected the farming community greatly. It also affects stores and the people that shop there
because the animals and bugs ruin a generous amount of crops. The less plants

  • 2. Essay on The Beginning of the N.F.L. The Beginning of the N.F.L. The year was 1920 and pro football was in a state of confusion. The three main problems that led to all the confusion were, salaries rising, players jumping from team to team and the use of players still enrolled in college. So, on August 20, 1920, a group of men representing the four current pro teams met. When the day was done the American Professional Football Conference was born. The A.P.F.C. was formed to make one governingbody over pro football. Then, on September 17, 1920, a second organizational meeting was held. At the second meeting the following teams attended: the Akron Pros; Canton Bulldogs; Cleveland Ohio Indians; Dayton Ohio Triangles; Decatur Illinois Staleys Athletic Club; Hammond ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On September 26, the first game, which featured an APFA team was played at Rock Island s Douglas Park. A crowd of 800 watched the Independents defeat the St. Paul Ideals 48 0. A week later, October 3, the first game matching two APFA teams was held. At Triangle Park, Dayton defeated Columbus 14 0, with Lou Partlow of Dayton scoring the first touchdown in a game between Association teams. The same day, Rock Island defeated Muncie 45 0. At the league meeting in Akron, April 30, the championship of the 1920 season was awarded to the Akron Pros. The APFA was later reorganized, they realized that Jim Thorpewas a better player then president. So, they picked Joe Carr as the new president. Carr moved the Association s headquarters to Columbus, drafted a league constitution and by laws, gave teams territorial rights, restricted player movements, developed membership criteria for the franchises, and issued standings for the first time. This made it that the APFA would have a clear champion. The league was also increased to 22 teams. It was during this year that the Green Bay Packers were granted a franchise. It was during the 1921 season, that Fritz Pollard was made the first black head coach in the history of Pro Football. The Chicago Statleys who would later become the Bears were crowned the 1921 league champions. Nothing really big happened for the APFA in 1922 except for a name change, ... • 3. Analysis Of Let It Snow By David Sedaris In the short essay Let it Snow , David Sedaris recounts his 5th grade adventures during a week of five consecutive snow days in North Carolina. The author shows how alcoholism affected his family and explain that managed to explain that a life of a family can also be positive. Many interesting points were brought up concerning raising children. Sedaris s article fulfills the destinies intended for us, which will give our lives full meaning and how we children will end up with all sorts of problems. Our presents had disrupted the secret life she led while we were at school, and when she could no longer take it she threw us out (Quoted in Sedaris, 11). His mother s extreme frustration of him and his sisters, the Sedaris clearly appeal to the reader s pathos. The author managed to relate to adults who have been irritated with their children before, but he can also relate to anyone who has ever been a childextremely excited by the idea of a snow day. Moreover, Sedaris work was a powerful example of the anger, frustration, and the raw emotion is felt by most parents when school is canceled. Firstly, David Sedaris essay, Let It Snow reflects Sedaris past. It took place on a single day in his childhoodin North Carolina where Sedaris and his siblings were home because the school was closed for few days because of bad weather. Their mother s drinking problem affected the relationship that Sedaris mother had with him and his sisters, which were the story is solely reflected on. In the story, the mother is very strict sounding and harsh. Yelling Get the hell out of my house (Quoted in Sedaris 89) to the children is supporting proof. She seemed to be an alcoholic who could not control her stress and emotions. The mother is the main character in the story even though the story revolves around the children and their father. However, the humor in the story was well settled that it turns a sad story into a ridiculous one. Without the humor, the story would not have been effective because of the abuse that was going on the story. For instance, the children being locked out in the cold weather is a form of abuse. The children believed that their selfish mother wanted the house to themselves. They ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Detroit Institute Of Art Case Study The Detroit Institute of Art (DIA) is a museum founded in 1885 and continues to thrive in the present day (Museum Fact Sheet). The people who own it could be the donors who give generously towards maintaining the museum or the organizations that give grants to maintain the collections for public viewing. Additionally, Macomb, Wayne and Oakland counties own shares in the property because they have contributed towards a 10 years millage tax. There is a volunteer board of directors that runs operations through supervising the museum director. This group invests its skills and lends its consultancy towards supporting the museum on the basis of the 1997 agreement. The city of Detroit owns the artwork, however, it cannot sell it without opposition from several corners.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The financial crisis has forced the governor (Rick Snyder) to take action and that is why he hired an emergency manager, Kevyn Orr. The latter believes that the best way to deal with the problem is to sell some highly priced items from the museum to cover the debts. According to the law (Chapter 9 of the State Law), Orr has the right to sell some items as a form of protection of the municipal from bankruptcy (Gallagher). On the other hand, there is no judge with the capacity to force liquidation of the assets housed in the DIA. However, Orr s solution is not clear cut as it faces several challenges. In the first place, the corporate groups and individuals who have given to the DIA are likely to oppose the sale. The non profit board of directors alongside the donors makes their decisions according to the Agreement of 1997 (Gallagher). Which prohibits sale of art for other forms of public ... • 5. Wealth In Haiti 5. What economic factors explain why Americans enjoy much more wealth than Haitians? It s safe to say that Haiti is poor. Especially compared to the U.S. One of the causes for Haiti being so poor just happens to be humans. They are entrenched in greed and power. The rulers there have ensured Haiti s despair. Things like soil erosion, bad education system, illiteracy, unemployment, inadequate roads, water systems, sewerage, and medical services are also some of the causes of Haitis despair. The international community also has a lot to do with Haiti being so poor. But the main root of Haiti s problems comes from their government. The rulers there have used beatings, killings, illegal arrests and detentions, forced exiles etc., all to keep... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There will always be someone else trying to sell your product for less money. Many monopolies are enforced by government. One example would be operating a cab in New York City. You would need a government issued medallion. The number of medallions are fixed which develops profits for initial owners. The profits are not because of talents or resources, instead these profits come by the absence of government enforcement of the medallion requirement. The government enforcement of monopolies is an attempt to solve market failure. An example would be New York City enforcing the medallion rules because they are under the assumption that if they don t restrict cabs, there would be a lot more traffic jams in the city. When government enforcement of monopolies is appointed for the well being of subset being granted a monopoly instead of the well being of society, that is when greed steps in. But monopolies can also improve welfare. For instance, a drug company developing new heart medication will pay lots of money in research and development for perfecting the drug without selling anything to achieve revenue. It anticipates that it will sell under a patent over some period of time and cover the development cost. If you take away the monopoly it takes away the motivation to produce better drugs. So if markets are not competitive then greed isn t really a problem. It is only a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. A Theme of the Opera in Bel Canto by Ann Patchett Bel Canto by Ann Patchett The theme of the novel draws its most core intensities from the art of opera. Patchett fantastically utilizes the language and the pathos of music for the examination of jungle born revolutionaries and the international hostages. This novel reflects our extraordinary aptitude to structure emotional associations in improbable and shaky ways. Manette Ansay, author of Midnight Champagne says: Let me put this plainly: Ann Patchetthas written the best book I have read in a long, long time. Bel Canto is a masterpiece to its title, a beautiful song, and a broad, bold entirely original love story destined to become an international classic. This is the book we all wait for, the one we thrust into the hands of friends, saying, You ve got to read this! You ve got to read this now! According to The New York Times Book Review: Expect miracles when you read Ann Patchett s fiction. The plot captures the attention right from the opening. The action begins with the very first sentence of the novelas the lights drop out during a party at the mansion of the vice president of a poor revolution torn South American country and suddenly a band of terrorists flood in the room from the upstairs, from behind curtains, through the doors, and even from inside the heating vents. Southern Arizona Dog-Walking Program Analysis Imagine you are a cute little puppy, you have luxurious fur and seamlessly floppy ears; you live in a nice house with a lovely family and live a very happy life. Your owners take you on nice long walks and are overall in great shape; every dog deserves to be in good health. Unfortunately not every dog gets the opportunity to go on a nice brisk walk often, sometimes not at all. Our goal is to challenge this; we wantto persuade people to agree to learn about the dogwalking program offered at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona. Many people tend to think of historical LGBT figures as being artists, authors, poets, and musicians, but they occupied many powerful positions in government as well. In times where homosexuality could be punishable by execution or torture, keeping these attractions a secret was often a matter of life and death, especially for the monarchs who lived highly publicized lives. James was said to be especially close to George Villiers, who James later made Duke of Buckingham. Poet ThГ©ophile de Viau said it is well known that the king of England has union with the Duke of Buckingham , and the Duke himself revealed in a letter (link 2) that he had slept in the same bed as the king many times. • 10. The Novel The Expedition Of Humphry Clinker By Tobias... The epistolary novel, a novel that is written entirely in the form of letters, first gained traction in the early 18th century. Two epistolary novels that encapsulated this style very well were Dangerous Liaisons and Evelina. The similarities are also not solely in terms of writing style. Both of these authors use the letters that their characters write as a method of deception to obtain what they truly desire, even if it does not appear as such. Despite the divide that separates them in genre, both Burney and Laclos exhibited this style very well as the authors used these letters to convey their characters goals, intentions, and desires to the reader in their works. We will first examine the novel by Pierre Ambrose Laclos, Dangerous Liaisons. There are a few reasons why Laclos letters provided a sense of importance stylistically. Dangerous Liaisons was not a typical work, as it was the first French epistolary novel to use more than one perspective (Brittanica). As we know The Expedition of Humphry Clinker by Tobias Smollett was published in 1771, had multiple perspectives displayed through letters, but Smollett was a Scot, and his work was set in both England and Scotland. His work was never able to gain much popularity in France. French literature in general did not implore this style; they usually followed a more traditionalist model when it came to the novel. He was also the first French author to employ letters that were not designed solely for reporting events. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Smog is a kind of air pollution; the word smog is a portmanteau of smoke and fog. Classic smog results from large amounts of coal burning in an area caused by a mixture of smoke and sulfur dioxide. Modern smog does not usually come from coal but from vehicular and industrial emissions that are acted on in the atmosphere by ultraviolet light from the sun to form secondary pollutants that also combine with the primary emissions to form photochemical smog. Ground level ozone (O3) formed from NOx and VOCs. Ozone (O3) is a key constituent of the troposphere (it is also an important constituent of certain regions of the stratosphere commonly known as the Ozone layer). Photochemical and chemical reactions involving it drive many of the chemical processes that occur in the atmosphere by day and by night. At abnormally high concentrations brought about by human activities (largely the combustion of fossil fuel), it is a pollutant, and a constituent of smog. Peroxyacetyl nitrate (PAN) similarly formed from NOx and VOCs. Minor air pollutants include: A large number of minor hazardous air pollutants. • 13. Hermit in Paris by Italo Calvino Italo Calvino (2004) describes his perspective from a distance in Hermit in Paris ; from places he has lived all throughout his life, the places where he has been a tourist, and a visitor. Calvino has personal relationships with places and has a personal opinion where he believes Europe is emerging into one single city(Calvino, 2004, p. 2). He is tolerant of other people s opinions and continues to portray his own feelings rather than following others discretions. Most cities are known through media and books and that s how people who have not experienced these cities see the town. You need to escape spaces mentally and physically by connecting or disconnecting yourself from a place that does not create happiness. The first visit that I can recall such an impression was in my heritage landmark (Rawhiti) I got to know what it is like was during my early teens when I attended an unveiling with my close relations. I had imagined the place to be dirty and filthy, but it wasn t, it was just basic. I had imagined Rawhiti through early distant memories as well as what I thought I knew from media and movies of what remote coastal towns with a Maori population are like, I immediately pictured the movie Boy (2010) as a similar setting to Rawhiti. • 14. Classification Of Soils As Well As Overcoming Management... Introduction Soil classification is the categorisation of soils into groups at various levels of generalisation according to their physical, chemical and mineralogical properties (Boul et al 2011:34). The formation and subsequently the classification of soil has been at the forefront of geological scientific research since its emergence in the 19th Century. Over the course of this essay I will be considering the various classifications of soils as well as overcoming management problems they may entail. How can soil be classified in the UK? It is important to be able to distinguish between soil types across farmed landscape, and classification is the main way this can be achieved (Soffe, 2003:24). One common practice used to record classification is through mapping; carried out on varying scales by National Soil Resources Institute for England and Wales based on differences and similarities in soil profile investigations (Soffe, 2003:24; Simpson 1983:47). Soils can be classified based on their structural and textural properties, formed from Parent material (Soffe 2003:23). The primary components of soil comprise the Texture, this relating to the range of sizes of particles in the soil and their distribution. (The Macaulay Institute, 2016;Soffe, 2003:3). The texture of specific soil types will fall into one of 4 classifications; Clay, Silt, Sand or in some cases an equal percentage of each to form Loam. Soil Structure is influenced almost solely by Soil Texture (The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As the name goes QoS deal with the overall performance of a system or a computer network. Since it is in regards to the service being, provided we are mainly concerned with the performance factor as seen by the users of our system or the network [6]. Understanding the grammar of kinesics can be difficult because it requires careful longitudinal observations and are situationally dependent. To add to the issues not everyone has the same body language, however, some nonverbal behaviors are believed to originate from the limbic brain and are universal. Much of the interpretation of kinesics seems to be in some cases speculative offering a range of possibilities and other interpretations are obvious. For example nail biting is obviously nervous behavior that I think all people recognize. However, Joe Navarro claims that bouncing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It records memories of behaviors and is responsible for what we call emotions. The hippocampus, amygdala, and hypothalamus are the main components of the limbic brain. The limbic brain is where make value judgments that influence on our behavior. It is thought that this part of the brain reacts reflexively and is difficult to disguise or eliminate. The neocortex first appeared in primates and is most developed in humans. These developed hemispheres are thought to be responsible for the development of language, abstract thought, and consciousness. The neocortex has almost limitless learning abilities. However, the reptilian, limbic, and neocortex do not operate independently. They have many connections with one another. Terms for these parts of the brain originated in the 1940s, and some neuroscientists have suggested that the concept should be abandoned. However, while the limbic system remains the predominate explanation (both in neuroscience and popular culture) of how the brain makes emotion, it is a flawed and inadequate theory of the emotional brain (LeDoux 2003). The limbic system theory has trouble explaining why damage to limbic areas like the hippocampus can result in deficits with cognition and memory. When the limbic system is activated in a purely cognitive task it is assumed that there must have been some emotional component to the task. Many researchers seem to think this explanation is based in tradition rather than facts. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Homeric Values In Electra By Euripides Throughout the play Electra by Euripides there are many instances of the author using the character Electra to attack homeric values. Homeric values are values expected of a hero. These values include birth, social status, martial virtues, courage, physical strength, and skill in things such as planning, organizing, and making war. Homeric culture was very important at one point. Many times throughout this play, the character Electra says something she believes about another character that goes along with/are invested with the homeric values. Euripidesthen has that character do the very opposite to almost everything Electra claims. Electra is being used as a symbol to criticize the customs and traditions of homeric values. Each time she is contradicted it is an insult to the homeric values. One example of this is found in the second episode of the play. The Old Man shows up at Electra s house after passing by Agamemnon s grave. He tells her how he noticed a sacrifice on Agamemnon s alter and tells her that he believes Orestes is there is disguise. This infuriates Electra and she responds to him by saying: What your saying makes you sound stupid, old man, if you think my brave brother has come to the country in secret out of fear of Aegisthus. ( Euripides 26). With this she is saying her brother is too brave to hide. This is a normal thing expected in a homeric culture. Men/heroes are supposed to be brave and have the courage to fight. During construction, users will drive towards giving the customer the minimum system that they need. • 26. The R V. Dudley And Stephens Case Essay The R v. Dudley and Stephens case occurred in 1884. In May of that year, four men left Southampton, England for Australia on the Mignonette, a private sailing yacht. These men were Captain Thomas Dudley (31), mate Edward Stephens (36), seaman Edmond Brooks (38), and cabin boy Richard Parker (17). While crossing the South Atlantic near the Cape of Good Hope in July, bad weather struck the yacht and it sunk. The men managed to escape into the lifeboat, and two one pound tins of turnips were the only food they subsisted on for four days. They caught a small turtle on the fourth day that lasted eight days, and were without food for another eight days after. The only fresh water they had was the rain that came from time to time. On the sixteenth day of drifting Richard Parker became ill from drinking seawater. On the eighteenth day Dudley and Stephens approached Brooks with the idea that they should sacrifice one person to save the rest. Brooks dissented, and they did not consult Parker as he was ill. On July 24th Dudley and Stephens reasoned with Brooks, saying that since they had families to take care of it was most logical to kill the boy and save themselves. They proposed that if there were no vessels in sight the next day they would kill Parker. As there were no vessels, Dudley killed Parker by slitting his throat; the boy was so ill he did not resist. Brooks dissented until Parker s death, but also fed on the blood and flesh of Parker with the two accused for four days. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She does this in a very unique fashion. Alison, throughout the novel, uses specific pieces of literature and writing in order for the reader to decipher her true emotions and feelings toward her sexuality. On top of that, Bechdel writes her story in order to show how these objects play a much deeper role between not only comprehending her sexuality, but her understanding of her choppy relationship with her father. Going back to the scene with the phone call, because Alison has fully come out as being a lesbian, we now understand why Bruce acted so accepting of the realization. Another book that plays a role in this central theme of confusion towards one s true identity is The Catcher in the Rye. While the novel has many examples of books with hidden uncovering messages, the most prominent in my opinion is The Catcher in the Rye. In the scene where The Catcher in the Rye is mentioned, Alison is in her father s english class and she s the only person answering his questions. What s interesting is that when her father initially asks her to read the book, she responds that she ll do it after I put you in the nursing home (Bechdel 198). While it seems that Alison is going to chose not to read the book in order to resent her father, in the very next panel she s answering all of his questions. The many derogatory and racist terms, used primarily by Archie Bunker, would not be able to said in a script for a modern day television show. Words and terms used to describe people of any non American race or people in general would be seen as non politically correct. The common racism theme throughout the show would degrade the idea of American equality, which is a vital necessity in our growing nation. The show also mocked religion, referring to a burning cross and roasting marshmallows over it. This kind of comment would create a national eruption of offended individuals. Today s television shows are reviewed to portray a politically correct message, or a decline in reputation will occur for anyone involved with the show. While All in the Familygreatly differs from modern American television shows, it also contains some similarities. The show portrayed an overall theme of how people talked and acted in their daily lives compared to a fictional or dramatized movie or television show. In the 1971 show premier, racial inequality was a common theme in American society. The way Archie talked about others, and even the disrespect to his son in law and mocking of his wife, was common. What kind of society does the ideology want and how do they want to achieve this kind of society? This essay will discuss the social democratic vision of freedom, the neo liberal vision of freedom and will then argue how and why their visions diverge. As a hybrid ideology, social democracy took shape around the mid twentieth century, resulting from the tendency among western socialist parties not only to adopt parliamentary strategies, but also to revise their socialist goals. In particular, they abandoned the goal of abolishing capitalism and sought instead to reform or humanize it. Being based on a compromise between the market and the state, social democracy lacks a systematic underlying theory and is, arguably, inherently vague. This revisionist socialism has been primarily concerned with social justice, a just or fair distribution of wealth in society (Heywood 2012, pp. 125 129). Designer Babies (Author) (Professor) Biology 18 September 2014 Designer Babies Designer babies are those babies, who are produced by in vitro fertilization, and whose genetic makeup has been selected or altered by genetic engineering to remove the particular problem, or to make sure that a specific gene with desirable features is present. It is suggested that the phrase designer baby was originated from the phrase designer clothing and it is coined by journalists and not scientists in 2004 (Agar). With the technology of producing designer babies, people will be able to choose certain characteristics such as the height, color of the eyes, facial appearances, and probably personality and intelligences of their children. However, this concept of designer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this case, the process of Pre Implantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) can be applied for designer babies. This process is helpful in screening out those embryos that may have a genetic disease. Parents would be able to select healthy embryos for implantation into mother s womb after professional s consultation. Many families with children that are affected with preventable disease often wish good health for their children. Now, the advancement in medical technology has made it possible for people to conceive only healthy babies and not those babies, who may develop some form of the deadly disease after birth. This is definitely a positive feature of designer babies as parents would have to pay only once for the procedure of implantation of healthy embryo and then they would be free of any costs of medical treatments during the life of their child. Mr. Walgreen was born near Galesburg, Illinois and his family later relocated to Dixon, Illinois at town about 60 miles north of his birthplace. Mr. Walgreens father was a farmer who turned into a businessperson and saw a great potential of the Rock River Valley (Walgreen, n.d., p.1). At age 16, Charles Walgreen had his first experience working in a drug store. He didn t always have pleasurable experiences but it was a job with pay. Although, they had a good working relationship and Mr. Walgreen was a trusted employee, Mr. Blood was skeptical to sell. Mr. Blood decided to sell at $6,000 instead of the original selling price of $4,000. Mr. Walgreen thought the new selling price was a little steep for his pockets, but he decided to take a loan a buy it any way. Walgreen s drugstore was located in Barrett s Hotel at Cottage Grove and Bowen Ave on Chicago s Southside. The neighborhood was prospering but Walgreen s wasn t. Mr. Walgreen decided to add brighter lights, expand the aisles (since the other pharmacies were dull and cramped), and add variety like pots and pans (unheard of in a drugstore. The quality of Walgreen s pharmaceutical compounds met the very highest standards of purity and freshness. Efficiency was increased. But the most dramatic change Mr. Walgreen instituted was a lever of service and personal attention unequaled by virtually any other pharmacy in Chicago. And this was exemplified by Walgreen s famous Two Minute Drill (Walgreen, n.d., p. 3). It is often referred to as a docudrama as it is very entertainment oriented but still remains close to the roots of what actually happened. Since it was produced at a later date than many other films portraying the events, Thirteen Days was able to access recently declassified information which helped in attaining a more historically accurate film. It was because the appearance of Kenneth O Donnell is much more appealing to the average American. He is the perfect protagonist, just an average middle class American trying to do the right thing. That is why he was given this role and it is understandable why this trade off would be made for entertainment purposes as Thirteen Days is a movie and not a documentary. Another less criticized aspect of the movie veering from 100% historical accuracy is that nothing is said about President Kennedy s interests in ridding Fidel Castro of Cuba but in reality he had been made aware of secret missions into Cuba prior to the Bay of Pigs. As well as approving the Bay of Pigs invasion. During the Bay of Pigs the US tried to pass the invasion off as Cuban defectors and US armed forces had no role in the invasion. President Kennedy even said The armed forces of this country would not intervene in any way. Even though that is of course a blatant lie and the Kennedy Administration helped set up and fund the CRC (Cuban Revolutionary Council) to take over after Fidel s government had been removed. None of President Kennedy s knowledge of this is shown in the film because it would not fit with how Kenneth O Donnell advises him on the subject matter. Both of the previously mentioned deviations from historical accuracy are really relatively minor in the grand scheme of things. The producer went to great lengths to maintain historical ... • 45. Barn Burning Sarty Character Analysis Blinded by Loyalty The word loyalty can be broken down into its main term, loyal. To be loyal is to show dedication to an ideology, individual, or group whom presumably all share the same beliefs. For instance, many people use either Apple or Android cell phones. It is not that one is better than the other, it is usually just what a person has grown up using. This can be described as brand loyal. In Barn Burning the family loyalty theme is made evident throughout the story by bringing to light the dynamic in which the Snopes family is expected to act with emphasis on a strong, harsh father and a son with underlying values that differ from those of his family. Faulkner begins the story by jumping right into a court room scene involving Abner ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Obeying is the basic principle in loyalty, one in which Sarty cannot differ between. For him loyalty is pleasing his father no matter what the consequence. That is until he can break free from the oppression of loyalty and finally see that it was loyalty that was blinding his true character. It is not until 20 years later that Sarty realizes that society wanted only truth, justice (Faulkner 3). It was not society whom demanded extreme loyalty, it was merely his family and more specifically his power hungry father. Abner at one point in the story takes it as far as to tell Sarty to stick to his families own blood because if not then he would have no one else to rely on (Faulkner 3). This shallow threat is yet another attack on a boy that aims to please his father, but is so caught in the middle of his battle with loyalty and self that he can be depicted as flying and being removed or suspended from the ground (Kirchdorfer 116). Sarty wishes to escape his reality and be in a world where he doesn t have these bouts with loyalty where his feet do not feel the floor under them (Faulkner ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For choir we sang a South African ritual which enticed me to look into the culture of South Africa to find out more things about my new found interest. During this investigation I found out that South Africa is prominent for their unique wild life, it is the only country which has hosted the world cup for cricket, rugby, and soccer, the vast history due to the colonialization of Africaby Europe, and the luxurious bodies of water found in South Africa. Also during my research I found out that Woodberry offers an exchange program to South Africa, which I became extremely interested in. I would love to do this program so that I can interact with the unique culture seen in South Africa, the great person who would be attending St. Johns, and the great friendships and experiences I would receive while attending St. Johns. The unique culture which is found in South Africa is extremely interesting to me. South Africa is known for many things, however three stand out the most. The history of South Africa, the sports of South Africa, and the wildlife found in South Africa. • 47. IPSec and Network Security Essay IPSec is a framework which utilizes a set of IETF protocols to offer end to end IP security using strong encryption, public and private key pair cryptography. IPSec secures communication links that could experience network security issues like corruption, eavesdropping, misused data etc (Pezeshki et al 2007) when not secured. However, using IPSec tends to also have an adverse effect on router utilization and overall network performance. One of the major issues with IPSec is performance degradation and throughput (Berger, 2006) which goes back to the complex authentication and encapsulation techniques. Data protection tends to increase required bandwidth; security transformation reduces performance and delays data processing and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Adding IPSec VPN technology appears to come with high data processing cost and additional complexity. IPSec is slow in establishing connection. This adds to delay in establishing authenticated connections degrading network service levels and user productivity (Pezeshki, et al.2007). Using IKE initially to negotiate security usually increases time of connection by one to three seconds depending on the network rounding time, policy design and required load on system to establish connection. IPSec protection tends to adds overheads to IP packets. The use of IKE, ESP, Cryptography and digital signature generation and Diffie Hellman computations (Shue, et al 2007; Fujimoto and Takenaka, 2006) all cause overheads and this increases network utilization and reduces effective throughput especially when multiple clients connect to it simultaneously. The interaction of IPSec VPNs and firewalls in practice may cause problems (Berger, 2006; Adeyinka, 2008b). A strict firewall policy may prevent adoption of IPSec packets. This is because ESP and AH encapsulates IP payloads by adding security header to each packet making it difficult to interpret IPSec protected packets by existing network management. The presence of NAT could also lead to a wrong process of IP packets because NAT devices checks and modifies the packet port address which is encrypted by IPSec packet (Mei and Zhang, 2009). Interoperability is another issue with IPSec VPN ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Another noteworthy finding is that some studies also showed that integration results in higher expenditures which are contrary to what is touted as a benefit of integration, i.e. more efficient care and a reduction of unnecessary or duplicative testing. Jeff Testerman, author of Organs of Condemned sought for Transplant , stated The prison population is such a high risk group, particularly for hepatitis and AIDS. When someone receives an organ from a donor within a prison s walls, they are not always assured of the health security of the prisoner s organs of which they are getting. There are many tragic stories told of someone being abducted, murdered, or sedated all just for his or her kidneys. These stories are not fictional but a shocking reality (Callahan.) As improvements in technology and medicine are made the number of organ transplants per year also increase, due to the escalating amount of sources (Hongda.) I could understand what Sensei meant because I could see the determination and hard work these students have when they do testing. They put the most effort they can when testing compared to the students in the Aikido course. The most significant part was that after students finished their test there was encouragement to applause, and this shows that the students admired each other in their hard work and dedication. This applause and admiration is not that common in our Aikido course sessions because it is apparent that people who have determination with Aikido have more enthusiasm and love for it. I visited the Chushinkan Dojo in Buena Park and learned a little more about Aikido not mainly in techniques, but how Aikido is viewed in a different setting such as an actual dojo where individuals are serious with Aikido. The Importance Of Pesticides In New Hampshire Pesticides in New Hampshire Civics 1.04 Read an Article Madison Beaton New Hampshire is known for having many farms spread out throughout the state, especially in Coos County. Because of this, many bugs come to survive off of the crops that grow here. If bugs keep eating the plants, then the quality of the crop will go down. It s not just bugs that come to live off the plants, it is also animals like deer, bears, moose, and many more. All of these pests coming to steal and eat the plants can cause the land to lose moisture and lower the quality as well. This has affected the farming community greatly.
