Lamb To The Slaughter By Roald Dahl
In Roald Dahl s, Lamb to the Slaughter, Dahl resembles the theme of the story to show the couples
deception. Dahl shows it by having the husbands desire to leave in an unsystematic way. It shows
dishonor and betrayal to the wife since she was 6 months pregnant and the only thing keeping her
happy was having a husbandto take care of. Mary was the housewife, and Patrick was the husband.
Mary was always prepared with meals and comfort once Patrick got home from work. They both
had to do very little just to keep a smile on both of their faces, at least a fake smile. Patrick
displayed ignorance once he came home one evening, then mentioning how he wants to leave
her. As you could imagine the amount of shock Mary had in her, lead her to the decision she
made by the end of the story. Mary was very happy in life, she had a husband who she loved, a
baby on the way, she thought to herself what could possibly go wrong? Little does she know,
when her husband walks in the door, he s going to demand a divorce. When Patricks comes home,
he gets his normal greeting and his wifes condolence. Except, he was giving off a negative energy
which Mary did notice. He seemed very stressed, tired, and Mary was trying to help him and do
everything possible to make him happy as she watches him pound his whiskey in one sip. As
hard as it was for Patrick to tell Mary the aching news, this is going to be a bit of a shock to you, i
m afraid he just had to spill it out. And he

America Has Benefited The Field Of Education
Teach for America has benefited the field of education. Teach for America provides an education for
children in low income communities by recruiting a diverse group of members who desire to
expand their educational opportunities. The program provides an intense training, support and
career development to assist members in increasing their impact and deepen their understanding of
what it takes to provide an excellent educationfor students. Teach for America has also produced
members that now work at various levels of education, policy, and other professions, to ensure all
children receive an excellent education (Teach for America, 2012). Teach for America has had its
share of controversies. The organization has placed TFA corps members into positions previously
held by veteran teachers. Some districts are laying off veteran teachers and replacing them with
TFA to ease budget issues. The practice of laying off veteran teachers and replacing them with TFA
has been reported in Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, and Washington, D.C. (Heilig Jez, 2010).
Veteran teachers are having to compete with Teach for America recruits for teaching positions
despite their lengthier training because TFA recruits are cheaper than teachers with experience or
advanced degrees (Hootnick, 2014). Another controversial issue surrounding Teach for America is
the placement of its core members. All of the state s TFA teachers are placed based upon teacher
shortages by subject area. Often

Hatchet Character Analysis Essay
Hatchet Reading analysis At the start of the book Brian is a typical city boy who takes most
things in life for granted. After all the trauma he is forced to go through he sees everything
differently. I think that by the end of the book Brian has changed for the better and becomes a
more appreciative person. The reason that Brian changes is because of his plane crashing which
results in him getting stranded in the Canadian forest. The first mental change that Brian
undergoes is after his pilot dies and he has to land the plane. He manages to escape crashing in a
lake, alive and without serious injuries. This made Brian thankful just to be alive even though he
was hurt and in the middle of nowhere. A quote from Brian after the crash, I m alive. It could have
been different. There could have been death. I could have been done. Page 38. Brian learns more

In the forest Brian learned that finding food in the wild is not as easy as finding food in the city.
At home, he would have just gone to the fridge or taken his bike to the store, but now he had to
work for it. Brian appreciates food now because he knows how much work it takes to get it.
Through the process of finding food Brian learned how to be patient and how to observe. He
also learned never to waste anything. When he caught a grouse instead of throwing the scraps
away, he used the feathers to make fletchings for his arrows and the extra meat he used as fish
bait. A quote from the author after Brian was rescued, Food, all food, even food he did not like,
never lost its wonder for him. Page

Offshore Construction in Malaysia
Offshore Construction in Malaysia
Petroleum is essentially the most important commodity in the world today. In almost all form of
transportation, oil or petrol, derived from crude petroleum, is used to move people and the
importance of petrol is seen with the establishment of offshore drilling structure fabricator and its
the supporting industries in Malaysia. As of today, there are 7 of such yards in Malaysia that is
capable of fabricating offshore structure.
The world s pricing mechanism of petroleum is determined by OPEC (Organization of the
Petroleum Exporting Countries) and is quantified by barrels of crude oil. At peak, price of crude
oil is USD147.27 per barrel in July 2008 following concern of an impending missile test by ... Show

Keppel FELS is among the first few fabricators in Singapore that has embraced new welding
technology such as the use of high deposition submerged arc welding consumables. The way this
high deposition submerged arc welding consumables work is that it uses the very same
machinery, very same set of welding parameters, same operator skills and the characteristics of
this consumables enables it to be welded much faster than other brand of welding consumables
of the same specification. A comparison report was done on the use of this high deposition wire
against competitors generic wire clearly shows that this high deposition wires saved the customer
135 minutes in welding a 0.95 meter length metal. (Michael, p.2). KFELS is estimated to have 50
of such machines that are able to use this high deposition wires which translates to a saving of
6,750 minutes when welding a 0.95m length of metal. Suffice to say, from a time saving factor
point of view, the offshore fabricators in Malaysia would lag behind in terms of time taken to
complete. As of today, no Malaysian fabricators have yet to incorporate these welding consumables
in their project, although it s proven the time saved when using these high deposition wires far
outweigh the initial purchase cost of it.
Along with the time saving factor, fabrication yards in Batam Island are known to review their
welding process from time to time and select the most cost saving welding

Canada In The 19th Century Essay
The 16th century is really where it all began. Where a man of prudence explored the Gulf of
Saint Lawrence. Who knew this land of green would be re visualised as a world of red? It was
only a matter of time before the south of Canada was bared of its natural existence to a nationalistic,
industrialized and capitalistic society. When columbus found North America in the 15th century,
explorers such as Jacques Cartier wanted the New world for themselves. The term the New World
simply reminds us of the rapid industrialized development America has endured for the past 500
years. The west dominated the 20th century, with european and North American powers creating a
technological revolution by the end of the 19th century to world war, radicalism... Show more

Critics of the canadian approach argue that non assimilation of immigrants weaken Canada s
national identity because civic nationalism will weaken due to ethnic ones. However, immigrants
continue to support Canada s immigration quo and international organizations glorify Canadian
immigration policy. Metropolitans in canada were attractive to immigrants because they had the
ability to better their lifestyle as cities in Canada began industrializing which provided more sources
for employment. The economy flourished with grand international immigration that primarily
favoured British and European immigrants until 1980 s when the government led the admission of
more ethnic cultures. Canada was therefore named a mosaic for particularism. As multiculturalism
became tolerant, metropolitans such as Toronto and vancouver expressed diversity. Cultural
appreciation aided the acceptance of political difference. Symbolically, in 1965 the maple leaf flag
was adopted because Canada portrayed significant sovereignty and felt the former flag praised
Britain rather than embracing the high rates of immigrants and french canadians. Noticeable
immigration is one of the fundamental socio political issues at the moment. The acceptance of
justifiable immigrants, has been used as precedents for situations such as refugees. The

Drinking Water Lead Contaminated Water
In Flint Michigan, nearly 100,000 residents are drinking lead contaminated water. (QuickFacts).
We are not discussing a third world country on the other side of the globe, but rather a city in the
United States. It would seem as though the land of opportunity, and the land many flee too should
be able to provide clean drinking water. However, in the United States 310,000 children aged 1 5
are found with an unsafe level of lead running through their blood stream. (Lead 8). In Flintalone,
8,000 children under the age of six have been exposed to harmful levels of lead. The agencies and
government that was put into place to protect the public from these issues is often turning a blind
eye, and often allowing the public to continue to drink this contaminated water. A major part of the
problem is that lead water pipes run throughout cities across the United States. Although it would
very expensive to replace all the water pipes running through Flint, not replacing the pipes could
potentially continue to do more harm to the ecosystems, and to the communities they are in. (rst2)
In April of 2014 due to financial reasons Flint s water supply source was temporarily switched
from the Detroit system to the Flint River. (CNN 2). The water was then found highly corrosive.
The Department of Environmental Quality did not treat the corrosion going against federal law.
When Flint switched their water supply back to Lake Huron in October it was already too late. The
corrosive water made the

Since I am majoring in Chemistry Education, I will be able to be a science teacher for middle
school and high school. I was informed I will need to apply to be in the education program and it
would be beneficial to do some job shadowing for this career. During my spring semester of my
senior year, I will do student teaching and should be looking at schools I might want to do that at. I
also learned that since I will be receiving a teaching license for the state of Kansas, when I go back
to Nebraska to teach, I will receive a temporary license to teach the following year after I graduate
and may need to take specific classes while I teach to make me certified in Nebraska.
Besides having an advisor to go to, this campus offers many other people and offices that can

Global Environmental Problems
Global environmental problems have taken a turn for the worst in recent years. For water
pollution, carbon emissions, and hurricanes have been at their highest peak in 2017. These issues
have only begun to get worse due to power plants, burning of fossil fuels, and several other
environmentally hazardous factories. In just 2017, six major hurricanes have occurred due to a
combination of climatechange, warming of the oceans, air and water pollution, overpopulation,
and several other environmental polluters. Countries, including the United States of America, are
drastically being affected by these events, some more than others. Global environmental
problems have increased over the years and will continue to grow worse if actions are not taken
to change this pattern. If the population continues to grow exponentially, like it is now, Homo
sapiens will drastically feel the effects of global environmental changes including a lack of water,
polluted waters and air, and a drastically lower life expectancy. According to the article, Food by

things instead of just going ahead and doing things. Having the assignment of nurturer was always

Include how changes in the environment might shift the decision. How your voice compares to
other callers, the number of satellites that already exist per caller, and the number of predators
around would all influence Harry s decision to become a satellite or caller. If an environmental
shift were to occur in which the majority of frogs were small and unable to call, it would be
beneficial for Harry to become a caller, as a medium sized frog, because someone has to call in
order to attract the females. If a different shift in environment occurred in which all frogs were
large and chose to call, it would be beneficial for Harry to become a satellite, because there would
be very few other satellites with which Harry would have to compete for females with.

Harry knows his relative size, and therefore his calling ability.

The Circadian Rhythms
Each day, when the sun rises and sets, mammals and plants alike conform together with a celestial
rhythm that instructs the activities of the day. The human body, along with nearly all other
mammals, endogenously oscillates on a rhythm that coincides with these daily activities. However,
when mammals are placed in an environment void of nearly all outside influences, also known as
zeitgebers, these rhythms continue to run at specified intervals. Thus, the endogenous rhythm must
be governed by an internal master clock. This master clock has been discovered to be the
suprachiasmatic nuclei which are located in the anterior portion of the hypothalamus. Circadian
rhythms are endogenous rhythms that mammals and plants exhibit. The term circadian was
established in the 1950 s and is derived from the Latin prefix circa which means approximately,
and dies which means day. (2) Nearly all living things have circadian rhythms that approximate to
a 24 hour cycle; however there are some differences in lengths varying from species to species. (1)
Numerous physiological processes are governed by the circadian rhythm, and by effect nearly every
process in the body can be contributed to a rhythm of circadian fashion. The master clock of the
circadian rhythm for biological processes is the suprachiasmatic nuclei, or SCN. (1)(2) The SCN is
located in the anterior portion of the hypothalamus, posterior to and slightly inferior to the frontal
lobe of the brain. The SCN is believed

critical inquiry? What might be the relationship between critical inquiry and education? I think
critical inquiry is looking deeper into a specific issue, so that you can form an opinion based on
facts and evidence portraying to the issue. Critical inquiry is the process of gathering information,
evidence, and ideas to form a thoughtful, well constructed understanding of a specific issue.
Critical inquiry has a direct link to education. This type of approach can be specifically seen in
classrooms and schools that use an inquiry based approach. Although I believe, all teachers should
give students the opportunity to use critical inquiry within the classroom. This approach can be
used when working through problems and research. Instead of giving students the right answer
you can allow them to explore the issue or topic on their own. I think critical inquiry is a beneficial
skill that students can obtain in the classroom, one which allows them to make reasoned judgments

how African American people were actually treated in the early 1960s. How they could actually
be beaten just for not apologizing to a white person. They were treated very cruel by some
people, but, not by all people. Lily Owens was a young girl in the year 1964; who lived in South

adored the stories they had to tell. Her best friend was an African American woman who worked

was entirely devastated when she committed suicide after finding out that her godson, Zach, had

The Great War Of Our Time
The Great War of Our Time was a pleasure to read. It was an emotional ride for me throughout
the entire book. It made me laugh out loud; giggle to myself, tear up, become upset and
sometimes it caused a pleasant grin to grow across my face. From the beginning of this book to
the very last page, I thought was an easy read.
He starts the book off talking about the three primary missions of the Central Intelligence Agency
(CIA): collecting secrets clandestinely, conducting all source analysis for the president and his
senior advisors, and undertaking actions covertly to further US foreign policy objectives. With
this being the agency s mission statement so to speak, I was very surprised to read how it was a
competition within the agency although the entire agency is suppose to be working toward one
common cause, one common goal. Alec Station, arguably one of the most important CIA
operational units at the time was led by an officer who was not a trained operations officer. I
agreed with Morell when he basically said that he found that to be strange. Why wouldn t the
CIA have put an experienced trained operations office as lead on this particular operational unit?
After all, it was created to follow Bin Ladin. Another question that I had was, again, here we have
an operational unit whose sole job is to follow Bin Ladin but the agency does not give the support
that is needed by Alec Station to conduct its job properly.
This situation brought to light for me why the

The Steel Industry in the USA
The Steel Industry in the USA Steel has been part of the greatest achievements in history. It was the
iron horse and steelrails that helped carve a nation out of the frontier. Steel is the backbone of
bridges, the skeleton of skyscrapers and the framework of automobiles. Now in the 21st century, it
is still revolutionizing the way we live. It is high strength frames for eyeglasses; it is a strong

For the workers, modernization has meant learning new skills to operate sophisticated equipment.
Competition also has resulted in increasing specialization of steel production as various producers
attempt to capture different niches in the market. As international and domestic competition
continue for U. S steel producers, the nature of the industry and the jobs of its workers are expected
to continue to change.
Domestic steel prices declined significantly during 1998 and 1999, allegedly because of dumping
of subsidized, low priced steel products onto the U.S market by foreign producers. The steel
industry appealed to the Government for vigorous enforcement of trade laws in response to the
alleged dumping and received support from the U.S. Department of Commerce in the form of
antidumping duty margins against several countries. Later, the International TradeCommission
ruled against the industry claiming that the industry did not suffer irreparable damage from the
extra imports. (4)
The U. S Antidumping Act of September 8, 1916 allows civil actions and criminal proceedings to
be brought against importers who commonly and systematically have imported or sold foreign
produced goods in the United States at prices which are substantially less than the prices at which
the same products are sold in a relevant foreign market, provided that such action is

When you loose your money, it is gone. There is no going back. If you buy stocks and the price
fell, you can still recuperate your investments if the price later goes up. Even when the price is
still low, you can still sell your stock and recoup some of your money. Binary optionsallow you to
predict and if you go wrong, your money will never look back at you.
2. The market is not regulated. If you look at the stock market, you will see that the market is
regulated. The buyers and sellers are protected in one way or the other by an authority. Don t
expect the same thing with binary options trading. There is no regulatory body to regulate options

Conclusion
As you can see from the above tips, you are the sole determiner of your success or failure. In all of
the components of trading binary options, the most important factor in the equation is the trader.

John Hughes Sixteen Candles
There is much to say John Hughes marvelously crafted Sixteen Candles. Hughes interpretation of
what it s like to grow up a teenager trying to find themselves is impeccable. In this comedic,
blissful coming of age film, the story follows Samantha Baker or Sam as she is most often called as
she navigates through her sixteenth birthday; everyone forgot this very important day in Sam s life.
This movie truly has it all: annoying little siblings, misunderstood teenagers, an older sister who
sucks up all the attention, conservative grandparents, freshman geeks, the popular cheerleader, and,
of course, the hottie that everyone has a crush on. Though stuffed with stock characters, Sixteen

Impact Of Technology
Impacts of Technology Andrew S. Grove, a well known author and engineer, acknowledged, In
technology, whatever can be done, will be done ( Technology Quotes and Sayings ). Technology is
extremely beneficial and makes students lives easier all around the world. Some researchers have
made an argument that technology causes students to think shorter; however, technology engages
students and entices them to learn more efficiently with ease. Technology helps students expand
their knowledge by intently keeping them engaged; quickly finding resources, connecting them
with others, and giving them confidence in their work. Technology engages students, allowing
them to remember information and indulge in their studies. Students are more likely to retain
information and become more open to opportunities when they are engaged in their studies. Arthur
H. Rotstein verifies in an environment without textbooks, School officials believe the electronic
materials will get students more engaged in learning (Rotstein). There is definitely controversy
when talking about this quote. Many researchers believe that technology is a huge distraction in
the classroom, which can be true but not always the case. Lack of interest is a huge part of kids not
remembering what happened in class or what the teacher was talking about, and technology can
change that by alluring their attention. Books and paper can seem like a bore to students; simply
put, an outdated resource that they do not want to take

American Research And Development Of An Atomic Bomb
It was August, 1939. United States President Franklin Roosevelt read a letter sent to him from
prominent scientists Albert Einstein and Leo Szilard. The purpose of this letter was to inform the
President that the Germans supposedly discovered the secrets to developing nuclear weaponry and
to urge the President to do the same. This letter changed the course of human history, setting the
stage for the development of weapons that would alter warfare forever (Primary Sources: Letter
from Einstein to FDR). The Manhattan Projectwas the code name given to the American research
and development of an atomic bomb. The high stakes chess game of World War II was in full
swing, and every move each side played created a chain reaction throughout the world, as did the
news of the German s advancements. Even though the United States would not officially enter the
war until 1941 (Historical Film Footage: US Enters World War II), the world believed the United
States to be the only hope of a German defeat. With the alarming news of the German s recent
discoveries, the Americans needed to quickly assert its dominance in the race to develop new
wartime technology. Roosevelt authorized the research of nuclear weapons in January of 1942
(Atomic Timeline). Immediately, government officials placed plans for classified studies into
motion at institutions across the country. As explained by the Independence Hall Association, At

If the equilibrium lies to the right, the solution is basic and will be yellow. The first solution turns
pink because the HCl is a strong acid and methyl orange is pink in acidic solutions. The
equilibriums shift to the left side showing an increase in the amount of acid in the solution that is
why the color changes to pink. The concentration of the solution then turns yellow because NaOH
is a base and turns yellow in a basic solution. The equilibrium is shifted to the right when the NaOH
is added.

Phenolphthalein is a weak acid and does not fully dissociate ergo it creates an equilibrium.
When the HCl is added, the equilibrium is to the left, The concentration of the anions is too low
for the pink color to be observed. However, the NaOH is a strong base and makes the solution s
equilibrium shift to the right. The concentration of the anion becomes sufficient for the pink
color to be observed. 4. Both test tubes appear red with the acetic acid with the methyl orange.

Identity, Authenticity and Survival Essay
Formative Writing I : Identity, Authenticity and Survival by Kandru Manibhushan Rao Kwame
Anthony Appiah s essay on Identity, Authenticity and Survival is based on Charles Taylor s earlier
work on recognition and identity. Though Taylor s references to identity are mostly to collective
identity, Appiah s aim is to draw a comparison or even find a connection between individual identity
and collective identity. Identity A collective identity, explains Appiah, is the way an individual is
recognized based on broad qualities of categorization such as gender, religion, ethnicity, sexual
orientation, etc. Whereas individual identity is born from personal characteristics such as wit,

* Individual Dimension: This comprises of traits such as intelligence, charm, wit, cupidity, etc.
which are all socially important features. Authenticity Authenticity, as described by authors such
as Lionel Trilling and Charles Taylor is the idea of living one s life by one s own reference and
for one s own self without yearning for recognition or acceptance from the collective or society.
However, Appiah points out that the search for authenticity is somewhat a paradoxical one. The
search for authenticity, as said, goes as much against the demands for a prescribed social life as it
does for the recognition of one s real self. There are two layer for recognition of originality
/authenticity: * How a person identifies or recognizes himself among other people. * How a culture
bearing group (minority) recognizes itself among a larger group. This leg of Appiah s essay focuses
extensively on Trilling s contradictory statements on authenticity. Claiming one s authentic
ethnicity, for example, for the need of expressing one s originality in turn proves one s need for
social acknowledgement for such originality. Even counterconventionalism requires needs
recognition from conventionalist. The problem that arises here is, in order to be original, an
individual has to understand convention and being everything that it is not, thus resulting in the
individual being not authentic,

people have started to use biofuels. There are two types of biofuels, ethanol and biodiesel. Biofuelis
Fuel produced from renewable resources, especially plant biomass, vegetable oils, and treated

Ethanol
Ethanol is made from the sugar in grain and plants. It is mostly made from common crops like
potato, sugar cane, and corn. It is usually mixed with gasoline to reduce the amount of fossil fuels
used by vehicles.
The world production of ethanol tripled between 200 and 2007. In 2011 22.36 billion gallons
were produced the United States was the top producer with 52.6 liters made. This accounted for
62.2% of global production followed by Brazil.
One gallon of ethanol is equivalent to 1.5 gallons of fuel. Most cars can run of blends of up to
10% ethanol. High blends of ethanol have presented problems with vapor pressure needed for fuel
to evaporate and spark the ignition during cold weather around 52 degrees. We have started using

The Temperance Movement Essay
In the early parts of the 20th Century, Canada experimented with banning alcohol consumption.
There were some exceptions to this, but most of Canada s Provincial governments issued some sort
of prohibitory laws. The exception being QuГ©bec who only prohibited hard liquor, meaning that
they allowed the production and consumption of beverages, such as, beer. This drive towards
prohibitionstarted during the mid 19th Century. It all started during the Temperance Movement,
when proponents voluntarily abstained from alcohol. This abstention was due to alcohol s,
perceived, moral downfalls. However, slowly, the various provinces reversed their restrictions on
alcohol and moved from prohibition to system of coordination. There were several... Show more

They thought that ridding the world of alcohol was necessary for their saviors return. They used
the Temperance Movement as a means to achieve their ultimate goal social salvation. The
Temperance Movement was not just about abstaining, or riding the world from alcohol, but it was
all about religion. In fact, the movement had a positive correlation with religion; which, meaning
that when religious fever increases so does the popularity of the Temperance Movement . In
essence, the temperance was a religious, moral, crusade to prepare society for the second coming of
the one true savior Jesus Christ. Therefore, this shows that the Temperance Movement was a
religious movement as well.
The movement went further than just trying to cleanse society from the grips of alcohol. It
centered on the health and well being of the family unit. The movement consisted of various
different organizations. Two examples of numerous temperance groups are The Bands of Hope of
the Sons of Temperance (BHST) and the Women s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU). The
BHST for instance encouraged children to abstain from liquor, tobacco, and bad language. This
shows that the Temperance Movement wanted to go beyond alcohol reform. It could be argued
that all fore mentioned things are immoral, thus they must be abstained from. The reformers also
tried to change, or create, a new definition of what it is to be a real man. The proponents of
temperance said that real men do

The Effects Of Gender And Sex Role Orientation On...
Effects of Gender and Sex Role Orientation on Attitudes Toward Dependent Personality Disorder
Dependent personality disorder (DPD) is characterized by a passive need for reassurance,
direction, and support. Those with DPD typically view themselves as helpless and weak and
others as competent and strong (Disney, 2013). According to the American Psychological
Association (APA, 2013), DPD is one of the most commonly diagnosed personality disorders.
However, compared to other personality disorders, there has been little research completed on
DPD and little research regarding sex differences in those diagnosed with DPD (Disney, 2013;
Loas, Cormier, Perez Diaz, 2011). Specifically, there is a dearth of research regarding attitudes

Therefore, evidence suggests that simply being a female appears to make one more likely to be
diagnosed with DPD (Loas et al., 2011). Some researchers argue that more women are diagnosed
with DPD due to traditional gender stereotypes. These traditional gender stereotypes suggest that
men are independent and assertive and women are dependent and passive (Berk Rhodes, 2005).
Currently, there is little research investigating the attitudes toward men diagnosed with DPD.
Instead, the vast majority of research regarding sex differences in DPD focuses on behavioral
manifestations of dependency needs. For example, Loas et al. (2011) found that men with DPD
were more likely to engage in spousal abuse. Additionally, Kierski and Blazina (2009) found that,
despite equal dependency needs, men are more likely to deny dependency needs in an effort to
conform to societal pressures. Perhaps understanding the attitudes toward men diagnosed with DPD
would help inform the degree of societal pressure placed on men to conform to traditionally
masculine stereotypes (Bohan, 2002).
Some researchers suggest that the current personality disorder diagnostic system is biased toward
diagnosing women with DPD (Barzega et al., 2001; Disney, 2013; Klonsky et al., 2002). This is
likely due to the relationship between DPD diagnostic criteria and traditional gender stereotypes
(Berk Rhodes, 2005; Disney, 2013). A diagnosis

Firearms In America
Firearms seem to have such a strong impact on today s society in America. However, since so
many problems have arisen from these dangerous objects, many are calling for restrictions on
what the American public can and cannot have as far as weaponry goes. For instance, an AK 47
is pointless to sell to the public if the main reason that people get weapons is to hunt! There is
absolutely no reason that a deer needs thirty bullets shot straight through him to die. It only takes
one bullet. Unless, of course, the animal had a bulletproof vest on and a six inch thick shield of
armor protecting it, which in that case, fire away! Another reason it seems that guns have been
negatively affecting America s society have been the extreme amount of mass

Perpustakaan Negara and Pusat Sains Negara
Other than that, both the National Library, Perpustakaan Negara , and The National Science
Centre, Pusat Sains Negara , have the same purposes in which to allow the public gain
knowledges from their visits. The National Library building design was influenced by the concept
of a traditional Malay men head gear called tengkolok songket which can be seen exteriorly.
Most of the public building as mentioned above used a traditional approach in it s design concept.
This indicated that part of the traditional influences is still being use locally in the progress of
forming the urban characteristic of Kuala Lumpur.
Other than all the mentioned buildings in previous pages, the other major components in
contributing urbanism in Malaysia is the old local shophouses which also had been the source of
economic growth and helps in the local urban development around 1970s.
In 20th century, three storey shophouses were built in Kuala Lumpur and had been quite popular in
comparison to other single and double storey shophouses in other places due to the high demand of
land values and urban progression to accommodate increasing capacity, also to provides enough
neccessities and needs of the town people back at that time. Although the storey height of the
shophouses is increasing, the plot arrangement and layout remains the same along the existing
street following the traditional method of linkages. Practically, this kind of development using the
traditional linear style blocks along

Title
To What Extent Does the UK Macroeconomic Environment Affect the Regional House Prices in the
UK?
Background
Real estate markets are closely related to macroeconomics, as was demonstrated by the global
financial crisis of the late 2000s. The crisis originated in the real estate market when mortgage
interest rates were low. The demand for real estate increased and banks offered risky subprime
mortgages (Lopus, 2013). The financial crisis led to a debate across scholars on the macroeconomic
factors that affected the development of the price bubble in real estate markets. On the one hand,
irrational investors may determine the changes in real estate markets as suggested by Brunnermeier
and Julliard (2008) and Case and Shiller (2003). On the other hand, Goodman and Thibodeau (2008)
argued that fundamental macroeconomic factors determine the developments in real estate markets
to the greatest extent. This research addresses this debate and explores the effects of
macroeconomic environment on the real estate prices in the UK. The focus of the study is made on
the determinants of regional real estate prices in the country. Aims and Objectives
The aim of the paper is to explore to what extent the UK macroeconomic environment affects
regional real estate prices. The following objectives of the dissertation are formulated: To measure
the effects of economic growth, unemployment, housing stock and interest rates on the UK regional
real estate prices; To compare regional

The Importance Of The Female Egg For Reproduction
Abstract From Aristotle and Plato studying animals. To 1653 William Harvey discovering the
importance of the female egg for reproduction. Anton Van Leeuwenhoek in 1678 used the
microscope to identify sperm as a seed. Elizabeth Osgood Goodrich Willard came up with the
term sexology and opened to the research to understand sex in a whole new level. In this paper
we will learn about a couple different sexologist and how they did the research on sex.
Keywords: Havelock Ellis, Kurt Freund, Richard von Krafft Ebing, Masters Johnson 1897
Havelock Ellis reflected his view of gays and lesbians as having an inside out, or inverted pattern
of erotic attraction. Ellis had a desire to investigate the nature of sex. He needed to have a
physiological understanding of humanity before he turned his attention to the psychology. Ellis
was determined then to become a physician. Despite his training Ellis never made the practice of
his medical training central to his professional life (Bering, 2013). One of this sexologist s most
important contributions was his clarifying that homosexuality is a psychological orientation, not
simply a random sex act or behavior involving the same sex. He didn t personally believe that gay
and lesbians were perverts, but he used this term to convey how religious moralist wrongly saw
homosexuals and other deviants as deliberately going against what is right, since for hundreds of
years before it ever connoted anything sexual, pervert was an epithet

Smoke Signals Analysis
The film, Smoke Signals was about an adolescent name Victor and his friend Thomas on a
journey to see what happened to Victor s father. Throughout the movie, Victor has trouble trying
to forgive his father for leaving his mother and himself behind. The context behind the movie did
a great job in illustrating the culture of Native Americans and threw in some of the common
stereotypes that are associated with Native Americans. Some of the stereotypes about Native
Americans were domestic violence, them being alcoholics and a scene where one of the female
characters, Lucy, says we barter because we re Indian. The depiction of poverty and struggle in
the movie was not as concise because of the difference in living space between Victor s familyand
Thomas s. Victor and his mother live in a decent home. In contrast, Thomas and his grandmother
live in a higher standard living space. No one in the film was really struggling to meet ends met
like how it is in the real world. If the movie was not focused on Victor and Thomas journey, the
story would have taken a different path.
In the scene where Victor and Thomas were on the bus, Victor stated there s three things that are
needed to be a true Indian. The first thing being is that you have to be stoic, if not White people will
walk all over you. The second thing is that an Indian is nothing without his hair. Lastly, to be
Indian you have to dress like an Indian, in essence culturally or like a warrior. The culture of

Chemical Change Lab
Laksha Sivathasan Evidence of Chemical Change Abstract: For the lab, what we did was we
had five chemicals to mix. We had a 4x3 spot plate and dropped a small amount of two different
chemicals. When the two different chemicals are combined we would notice if it s acidic or
basic. If we had gotten a clear reaction than we would add one drop of acid base indicator. And if
we have gotten a green that would indicate that it s neutral. The purpose of the lab was to see the
outcomes of two different types of chemicals mixed together. Before I started the lab my
prediction was that most of the chemicals would show different colours but I was mistaken most

The Morality Of The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn
Say it, Jim: the morality of connection in Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Laurel Bollinger
College Literature. 29.1 (Winter 2002): p32. From Literature Resource Center. Copyright:
COPYRIGHT 2002 Johns Hopkins University Press http://www.press.jhu.edu Full Text: The
American literary tradition has often been defined by its moments of radical autonomy Thoreau
at his pond, Ishmael offering his apostrophe to landlessness, Huck light[ing] out for the Territory
ahead of the rest (Twain 1995,265). In fact, Twain s novel is often taught as the text that
epitomizes this tradition, with Huck held up as its exemplar: a boy courageous enough to stand
against the moral conventions of his society, to risk Hell itself rather than conform to the
sivilizing process of communities he rejects. (1) Yet such a focus belies an alternate strand in the
tradition: moments of radical connection that call into question not just the value but even the
possibility of autonomy The passage from which my title is drawn illustrates this point. At the
very moment Jim s freedom seems most in crisis, when Tom s injury puts the escape on hold
while Huck goes for the doctor, the two characters speak as one through Jim s voice. Knowing
Jim will say what they both think, Huck asks Jim to say it: No, sah I doan budge a step out n dis
place, dout a doctor; not if it s forty year! (1995, 251).While the moment certainly contains troubling
elements, we must acknowledge the

Bootstrap Sampling In Cluster Analysis Essay
Bootstrap sampling in cluster analysis is a valuable tool that can be used in bioinformatics as well
as in other areas of research. In bioinformatics, clustering can be used in genetics studies to find
clusters of subjects according to their gene expression levels. We can then see if subjects with the
same disease state or treatment have the same geneprofiles, which can give us more information
about diseases or treatments and their relations to genetics.
The Hierarchical Ordered Partitioning and Collapsing Hybrid (HOPACH) clustering algorithm can
be used to identify clusters of data. There is a package in R that corresponds to this method which
is built especially for bioinformatical data. This method works in four steps: ... Show more content

One question that was asked during the in class discussion, but was never answered was the
number of bootstrap datasets that were used in the HOPACH method. In looking further into this,
I found that the default number of bootstrap samples is 1000. The documentation for this package
noted that this method is computationally expensive, especially as the number of bootstrap
samples gets larger. Something that I would be interested in learning more about is the extent to
which the number of bootstrap samples affects the results of the cluster validation as well as how
low you can go in the number of bootstrap samples while still ensuring a relatively high level of
accuracy. Especially for big data sets I would assume that it is important to minimize the
computational time and power used in analysis, so it would be valuable to have more information
on the effects of lowering the number of bootstrap samples both on computational expense as well
as on accuracy.
I am also curious concerning other ways the HOPACH method along with bootstrapping could be
used within the field of bioinformatics. One application, which we touched on a little bit during our
discussion, might be to cluster genes rather than research subjects. I think this would only be
practical after the number of genes of interest had been minimized through other

Egypt Burial Process
When I was 9, I was very interested in early civilizations and their various cultures. Among the
many beautiful heritages I read about, Egypt was one of my favorite. From the many gods to
worship to the architecture to the language to the infamous curses to the extravagant burial, I was
completely hooked. This specific mask however, stood out amongst the rest. I remember spending
days and days thinking of the cursed tomb and of the teen boy found at that site. I remember
wondering how a 9 year old, could rule a whole country. I had wanted to become a archaeologist
because of this specific story surrounding the mask. I was enthralled by the egyptiansdetailed belief
of the afterlife and especially their burial process. This mask is a big part

Birth Control Patch Research Papers
Birth Control Patch
What is the birth control patch?
The birth control patch is a method of hormonal contraception. It s a small, square patch that looks
like a plastic bandage. It sticks to your skin and gradually releases hormones into your body to
prevent pregnancy. You replace it once per week.
The birth control patch was introduced in 2002. It s highly effective less than 1 percent of women
who use the patch according to its directions get pregnant while they use it.
How does it work?
The birth control patch contains two man made versions of the hormones estrogen and progestin.
These are the same types of hormones found in most birth control pills. Your body absorbs the
hormones from the patch. Then, the hormones start preventing pregnancy

  • 2. Lamb To The Slaughter By Roald Dahl In Roald Dahl s, Lamb to the Slaughter, Dahl resembles the theme of the story to show the couples deception. Dahl shows it by having the husbands desire to leave in an unsystematic way. It shows dishonor and betrayal to the wife since she was 6 months pregnant and the only thing keeping her happy was having a husbandto take care of. Mary was the housewife, and Patrick was the husband. Mary was always prepared with meals and comfort once Patrick got home from work. They both had to do very little just to keep a smile on both of their faces, at least a fake smile. Patrick displayed ignorance once he came home one evening, then mentioning how he wants to leave her. As you could imagine the amount of shock Mary had in her, lead her to the decision she made by the end of the story. Mary was very happy in life, she had a husband who she loved, a baby on the way, she thought to herself what could possibly go wrong? Little does she know, when her husband walks in the door, he s going to demand a divorce. When Patricks comes home, he gets his normal greeting and his wifes condolence. Except, he was giving off a negative energy which Mary did notice. He seemed very stressed, tired, and Mary was trying to help him and do everything possible to make him happy as she watches him pound his whiskey in one sip. As hard as it was for Patrick to tell Mary the aching news, this is going to be a bit of a shock to you, i m afraid he just had to spill it out. And he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. America Has Benefited The Field Of Education Teach for America has benefited the field of education. Teach for America provides an education for children in low income communities by recruiting a diverse group of members who desire to expand their educational opportunities. The program provides an intense training, support and career development to assist members in increasing their impact and deepen their understanding of what it takes to provide an excellent educationfor students. Teach for America has also produced members that now work at various levels of education, policy, and other professions, to ensure all children receive an excellent education (Teach for America, 2012). Teach for America has had its share of controversies. The organization has placed TFA corps members into positions previously held by veteran teachers. Some districts are laying off veteran teachers and replacing them with TFA to ease budget issues. The practice of laying off veteran teachers and replacing them with TFA has been reported in Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, and Washington, D.C. (Heilig Jez, 2010). Veteran teachers are having to compete with Teach for America recruits for teaching positions despite their lengthier training because TFA recruits are cheaper than teachers with experience or advanced degrees (Hootnick, 2014). Another controversial issue surrounding Teach for America is the placement of its core members. All of the state s TFA teachers are placed based upon teacher shortages by subject area. Often ... • 4. Hatchet Character Analysis Essay Hatchet Reading analysis At the start of the book Brian is a typical city boy who takes most things in life for granted. After all the trauma he is forced to go through he sees everything differently. I think that by the end of the book Brian has changed for the better and becomes a more appreciative person. The reason that Brian changes is because of his plane crashing which results in him getting stranded in the Canadian forest. The first mental change that Brian undergoes is after his pilot dies and he has to land the plane. He manages to escape crashing in a lake, alive and without serious injuries. This made Brian thankful just to be alive even though he was hurt and in the middle of nowhere. A quote from Brian after the crash, I m alive. It could have been different. There could have been death. I could have been done. Page 38. Brian learns more about himself, he learns his physical and mental limits.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the forest Brian learned that finding food in the wild is not as easy as finding food in the city. At home, he would have just gone to the fridge or taken his bike to the store, but now he had to work for it. Brian appreciates food now because he knows how much work it takes to get it. Through the process of finding food Brian learned how to be patient and how to observe. He also learned never to waste anything. When he caught a grouse instead of throwing the scraps away, he used the feathers to make fletchings for his arrows and the extra meat he used as fish bait. A quote from the author after Brian was rescued, Food, all food, even food he did not like, never lost its wonder for him. Page ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Canada In The 19th Century Essay The 16th century is really where it all began. Where a man of prudence explored the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. Who knew this land of green would be re visualised as a world of red? It was only a matter of time before the south of Canada was bared of its natural existence to a nationalistic, industrialized and capitalistic society. When columbus found North America in the 15th century, explorers such as Jacques Cartier wanted the New world for themselves. The term the New World simply reminds us of the rapid industrialized development America has endured for the past 500 years. The west dominated the 20th century, with european and North American powers creating a technological revolution by the end of the 19th century to world war, radicalism... Critics of the canadian approach argue that non assimilation of immigrants weaken Canada s national identity because civic nationalism will weaken due to ethnic ones. However, immigrants continue to support Canada s immigration quo and international organizations glorify Canadian immigration policy. Metropolitans in canada were attractive to immigrants because they had the ability to better their lifestyle as cities in Canada began industrializing which provided more sources for employment. The economy flourished with grand international immigration that primarily favoured British and European immigrants until 1980 s when the government led the admission of more ethnic cultures. Canada was therefore named a mosaic for particularism. As multiculturalism became tolerant, metropolitans such as Toronto and vancouver expressed diversity. Cultural appreciation aided the acceptance of political difference. Symbolically, in 1965 the maple leaf flag was adopted because Canada portrayed significant sovereignty and felt the former flag praised Britain rather than embracing the high rates of immigrants and french canadians. • 8. Drinking Water Lead Contaminated Water In Flint Michigan, nearly 100,000 residents are drinking lead contaminated water. (QuickFacts). We are not discussing a third world country on the other side of the globe, but rather a city in the United States. It would seem as though the land of opportunity, and the land many flee too should be able to provide clean drinking water. However, in the United States 310,000 children aged 1 5 are found with an unsafe level of lead running through their blood stream. (Lead 8). In Flintalone, 8,000 children under the age of six have been exposed to harmful levels of lead. The agencies and government that was put into place to protect the public from these issues is often turning a blind eye, and often allowing the public to continue to drink this contaminated water. A major part of the problem is that lead water pipes run throughout cities across the United States. Although it would very expensive to replace all the water pipes running through Flint, not replacing the pipes could potentially continue to do more harm to the ecosystems, and to the communities they are in. (rst2) In April of 2014 due to financial reasons Flint s water supply source was temporarily switched from the Detroit system to the Flint River. (CNN 2). The water was then found highly corrosive. The Department of Environmental Quality did not treat the corrosion going against federal law. When Flint switched their water supply back to Lake Huron in October it was already too late. For water pollution, carbon emissions, and hurricanes have been at their highest peak in 2017. These issues have only begun to get worse due to power plants, burning of fossil fuels, and several other environmentally hazardous factories. In just 2017, six major hurricanes have occurred due to a combination of climatechange, warming of the oceans, air and water pollution, overpopulation, and several other environmental polluters. Countries, including the United States of America, are drastically being affected by these events, some more than others. Global environmental problems have increased over the years and will continue to grow worse if actions are not taken to change this pattern. • 16. The Circadian Rhythms Each day, when the sun rises and sets, mammals and plants alike conform together with a celestial rhythm that instructs the activities of the day. The human body, along with nearly all other mammals, endogenously oscillates on a rhythm that coincides with these daily activities. However, when mammals are placed in an environment void of nearly all outside influences, also known as zeitgebers, these rhythms continue to run at specified intervals. Thus, the endogenous rhythm must be governed by an internal master clock. This master clock has been discovered to be the suprachiasmatic nuclei which are located in the anterior portion of the hypothalamus. Circadian rhythms are endogenous rhythms that mammals and plants exhibit. The term circadian was established in the 1950 s and is derived from the Latin prefix circa which means approximately, and dies which means day. (2) Nearly all living things have circadian rhythms that approximate to a 24 hour cycle; however there are some differences in lengths varying from species to species. (1) Numerous physiological processes are governed by the circadian rhythm, and by effect nearly every process in the body can be contributed to a rhythm of circadian fashion. The master clock of the circadian rhythm for biological processes is the suprachiasmatic nuclei, or SCN. I think critical inquiry is looking deeper into a specific issue, so that you can form an opinion based on facts and evidence portraying to the issue. Critical inquiry is the process of gathering information, evidence, and ideas to form a thoughtful, well constructed understanding of a specific issue. Critical inquiry has a direct link to education. This type of approach can be specifically seen in classrooms and schools that use an inquiry based approach. Although I believe, all teachers should give students the opportunity to use critical inquiry within the classroom. This approach can be used when working through problems and research. Instead of giving students the right answer you can allow them to explore the issue or topic on their own. I think critical inquiry is a beneficial skill that students can obtain in the classroom, one which allows them to make reasoned judgments though out their life. 2.Do you think such a relationship is a happy or an unhappy one? Book Report On The Secret Life Of Bees By Sue Monk Kidd Elizabeth Nosek Nosek Page 17 26 2015 English, Summer Reading The Secret Life of Bees By: Sue Monk Kidd The Secret Life of Bees by: Sue Monk Kidd was a book that really showed me how African American people were actually treated in the early 1960s. How they could actually be beaten just for not apologizing to a white person. They were treated very cruel by some people, but, not by all people. Lily Owens was a young girl in the year 1964; who lived in South Carolina. She loved African American people. She loved how interesting they were, and she adored the stories they had to tell. Her best friend was an African American woman who worked on her father s peach farm. That woman s name was Rosaleen, and she helped Lily feel better all the time when she was sad. It seemed that after her twin, April, died when she was very young, May had been carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders. So, she had to finally let it all go. My least favorite character in the story was T. Ray. I hated the way he treated Lily and everyone else in life. I especially hated when he made Lily kneel on the grits for an hour as a punishment. It made me laugh out loud; giggle to myself, tear up, become upset and sometimes it caused a pleasant grin to grow across my face. From the beginning of this book to the very last page, I thought was an easy read. He starts the book off talking about the three primary missions of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA): collecting secrets clandestinely, conducting all source analysis for the president and his senior advisors, and undertaking actions covertly to further US foreign policy objectives. With this being the agency s mission statement so to speak, I was very surprised to read how it was a competition within the agency although the entire agency is suppose to be working toward one common cause, one common goal. Alec Station, arguably one of the most important CIA operational units at the time was led by an officer who was not a trained operations officer. I agreed with Morell when he basically said that he found that to be strange. Why wouldn t the CIA have put an experienced trained operations office as lead on this particular operational unit? After all, it was created to follow Bin Ladin. Another question that I had was, again, here we have an operational unit whose sole job is to follow Bin Ladin but the agency does not give the support that is needed by Alec Station to conduct its job properly. This situation brought to light for me why the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The steel industry appealed to the Government for vigorous enforcement of trade laws in response to the alleged dumping and received support from the U.S. Department of Commerce in the form of antidumping duty margins against several countries. Grove, a well known author and engineer, acknowledged, In technology, whatever can be done, will be done ( Technology Quotes and Sayings ). Technology is extremely beneficial and makes students lives easier all around the world. Some researchers have made an argument that technology causes students to think shorter; however, technology engages students and entices them to learn more efficiently with ease. Technology helps students expand their knowledge by intently keeping them engaged; quickly finding resources, connecting them with others, and giving them confidence in their work. Technology engages students, allowing them to remember information and indulge in their studies. Students are more likely to retain information and become more open to opportunities when they are engaged in their studies. Arthur H. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... * Individual Dimension: This comprises of traits such as intelligence, charm, wit, cupidity, etc. which are all socially important features. Authenticity Authenticity, as described by authors such as Lionel Trilling and Charles Taylor is the idea of living one s life by one s own reference and for one s own self without yearning for recognition or acceptance from the collective or society. However, Appiah points out that the search for authenticity is somewhat a paradoxical one. The search for authenticity, as said, goes as much against the demands for a prescribed social life as it does for the recognition of one s real self. There are two layer for recognition of originality /authenticity: * How a person identifies or recognizes himself among other people. * How a culture bearing group (minority) recognizes itself among a larger group. This leg of Appiah s essay focuses extensively on Trilling s contradictory statements on authenticity. Claiming one s authentic ethnicity, for example, for the need of expressing one s originality in turn proves one s need for social acknowledgement for such originality. Even counterconventionalism requires needs recognition from conventionalist. The problem that arises here is, in order to be original, an individual has to understand convention and being everything that it is not, thus resulting in the individual being not authentic, ... They used the Temperance Movement as a means to achieve their ultimate goal social salvation. The Temperance Movement was not just about abstaining, or riding the world from alcohol, but it was all about religion. In fact, the movement had a positive correlation with religion; which, meaning that when religious fever increases so does the popularity of the Temperance Movement . In essence, the temperance was a religious, moral, crusade to prepare society for the second coming of the one true savior Jesus Christ. Therefore, this shows that the Temperance Movement was a religious movement as well. The movement went further than just trying to cleanse society from the grips of alcohol. It centered on the health and well being of the family unit. The movement consisted of various different organizations. Two examples of numerous temperance groups are The Bands of Hope of the Sons of Temperance (BHST) and the Women s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU). The BHST for instance encouraged children to abstain from liquor, tobacco, and bad language. This shows that the Temperance Movement wanted to go beyond alcohol reform. It could be argued that all fore mentioned things are immoral, thus they must be abstained from. The reformers also tried to change, or create, a new definition of what it is to be a real man. The proponents of temperance said that real men do ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. The Effects Of Gender And Sex Role Orientation On... Effects of Gender and Sex Role Orientation on Attitudes Toward Dependent Personality Disorder Dependent personality disorder (DPD) is characterized by a passive need for reassurance, direction, and support. Those with DPD typically view themselves as helpless and weak and others as competent and strong (Disney, 2013). According to the American Psychological Association (APA, 2013), DPD is one of the most commonly diagnosed personality disorders. However, compared to other personality disorders, there has been little research completed on DPD and little research regarding sex differences in those diagnosed with DPD (Disney, 2013; Loas, Cormier, Perez Diaz, 2011). Specifically, there is a dearth of research regarding attitudes toward ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, evidence suggests that simply being a female appears to make one more likely to be diagnosed with DPD (Loas et al., 2011). Some researchers argue that more women are diagnosed with DPD due to traditional gender stereotypes. These traditional gender stereotypes suggest that men are independent and assertive and women are dependent and passive (Berk Rhodes, 2005). Currently, there is little research investigating the attitudes toward men diagnosed with DPD. Instead, the vast majority of research regarding sex differences in DPD focuses on behavioral manifestations of dependency needs. For example, Loas et al. (2011) found that men with DPD were more likely to engage in spousal abuse. Additionally, Kierski and Blazina (2009) found that, despite equal dependency needs, men are more likely to deny dependency needs in an effort to conform to societal pressures. Perhaps understanding the attitudes toward men diagnosed with DPD would help inform the degree of societal pressure placed on men to conform to traditionally masculine stereotypes (Bohan, 2002). Some researchers suggest that the current personality disorder diagnostic system is biased toward diagnosing women with DPD (Barzega et al., 2001; Disney, 2013; Klonsky et al., 2002). This is likely due to the relationship between DPD diagnostic criteria and traditional gender stereotypes (Berk Rhodes, 2005; Disney, 2013). A diagnosis ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, since so many problems have arisen from these dangerous objects, many are calling for restrictions on what the American public can and cannot have as far as weaponry goes. There is absolutely no reason that a deer needs thirty bullets shot straight through him to die. It only takes one bullet. • 46. What Does The Uk Macroeconomic Environment Affect The... Title To What Extent Does the UK Macroeconomic Environment Affect the Regional House Prices in the UK? Background Real estate markets are closely related to macroeconomics, as was demonstrated by the global financial crisis of the late 2000s. The crisis originated in the real estate market when mortgage interest rates were low. The demand for real estate increased and banks offered risky subprime mortgages (Lopus, 2013). The financial crisis led to a debate across scholars on the macroeconomic factors that affected the development of the price bubble in real estate markets. On the one hand, irrational investors may determine the changes in real estate markets as suggested by Brunnermeier and Julliard (2008) and Case and Shiller (2003). On the other hand, Goodman and Thibodeau (2008) argued that fundamental macroeconomic factors determine the developments in real estate markets to the greatest extent. This research addresses this debate and explores the effects of macroeconomic environment on the real estate prices in the UK. The focus of the study is made on the determinants of regional real estate prices in the country. Aims and Objectives The aim of the paper is to explore to what extent the UK macroeconomic environment affects regional real estate prices. The following objectives of the dissertation are formulated: To measure the effects of economic growth, unemployment, housing stock and interest rates on the UK regional real estate prices; To compare regional ... Anton Van Leeuwenhoek in 1678 used the microscope to identify sperm as a seed. Elizabeth Osgood Goodrich Willard came up with the term sexology and opened to the research to understand sex in a whole new level. In this paper we will learn about a couple different sexologist and how they did the research on sex. Keywords: Havelock Ellis, Kurt Freund, Richard von Krafft Ebing, Masters Johnson 1897 Havelock Ellis reflected his view of gays and lesbians as having an inside out, or inverted pattern of erotic attraction. Ellis had a desire to investigate the nature of sex. He needed to have a physiological understanding of humanity before he turned his attention to the psychology. Ellis was determined then to become a physician. Despite his training Ellis never made the practice of his medical training central to his professional life (Bering, 2013). One of this sexologist s most important contributions was his clarifying that homosexuality is a psychological orientation, not simply a random sex act or behavior involving the same sex. He didn t personally believe that gay and lesbians were perverts, but he used this term to convey how religious moralist wrongly saw homosexuals and other deviants as deliberately going against what is right, since for hundreds of years before it ever connoted anything sexual, pervert was an epithet ... • 48. Smoke Signals Analysis The film, Smoke Signals was about an adolescent name Victor and his friend Thomas on a journey to see what happened to Victor s father. Throughout the movie, Victor has trouble trying to forgive his father for leaving his mother and himself behind. The context behind the movie did a great job in illustrating the culture of Native Americans and threw in some of the common stereotypes that are associated with Native Americans. Some of the stereotypes about Native Americans were domestic violence, them being alcoholics and a scene where one of the female characters, Lucy, says we barter because we re Indian. The depiction of poverty and struggle in the movie was not as concise because of the difference in living space between Victor s familyand Thomas s. Victor and his mother live in a decent home. In contrast, Thomas and his grandmother live in a higher standard living space. No one in the film was really struggling to meet ends met like how it is in the real world. If the movie was not focused on Victor and Thomas journey, the story would have taken a different path. In the scene where Victor and Thomas were on the bus, Victor stated there s three things that are needed to be a true Indian. The first thing being is that you have to be stoic, if not White people will walk all over you. The second thing is that an Indian is nothing without his hair. Lastly, to be Indian you have to dress like an Indian, in essence culturally or like a warrior. The culture of Native Americans ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

From Literature Resource Center. Copyright: COPYRIGHT 2002 Johns Hopkins University Press http://www.press.jhu.edu Full Text: The American literary tradition has often been defined by its moments of radical autonomy Thoreau at his pond, Ishmael offering his apostrophe to landlessness, Huck light[ing] out for the Territory ahead of the rest (Twain 1995,265). In fact, Twain s novel is often taught as the text that epitomizes this tradition, with Huck held up as its exemplar: a boy courageous enough to stand against the moral conventions of his society, to risk Hell itself rather than conform to the sivilizing process of communities he rejects. (1) Yet such a focus belies an alternate strand in the tradition: moments of radical connection that call into question not just the value but even the possibility of autonomy The passage from which my title is drawn illustrates this point. At the very moment Jim s freedom seems most in crisis, when Tom s injury puts the escape on hold while Huck goes for the doctor, the two characters speak as one through Jim s voice. Knowing Jim will say what they both think, Huck asks Jim to say it: No, sah I doan budge a step out n dis place, dout a doctor; not if it s forty year! • 53. Bootstrap Sampling In Cluster Analysis Essay Bootstrap sampling in cluster analysis is a valuable tool that can be used in bioinformatics as well as in other areas of research. In bioinformatics, clustering can be used in genetics studies to find clusters of subjects according to their gene expression levels. We can then see if subjects with the same disease state or treatment have the same geneprofiles, which can give us more information about diseases or treatments and their relations to genetics. The Hierarchical Ordered Partitioning and Collapsing Hybrid (HOPACH) clustering algorithm can be used to identify clusters of data. There is a package in R that corresponds to this method which is built especially for bioinformatical data. This method works in four steps: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One question that was asked during the in class discussion, but was never answered was the number of bootstrap datasets that were used in the HOPACH method. In looking further into this, I found that the default number of bootstrap samples is 1000. The documentation for this package noted that this method is computationally expensive, especially as the number of bootstrap samples gets larger. Something that I would be interested in learning more about is the extent to which the number of bootstrap samples affects the results of the cluster validation as well as how low you can go in the number of bootstrap samples while still ensuring a relatively high level of accuracy. Especially for big data sets I would assume that it is important to minimize the computational time and power used in analysis, so it would be valuable to have more information on the effects of lowering the number of bootstrap samples both on computational expense as well as on accuracy. I am also curious concerning other ways the HOPACH method along with bootstrapping could be used within the field of bioinformatics. One application, which we touched on a little bit during our discussion, might be to cluster genes rather than research subjects. I think this would only be practical after the number of genes of interest had been minimized through other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
