Run Lola Run by Tom Tykwer
Run Lola Run by Tom Tykwer is a stunning film incorporating an array of distinctively visual
features. Distinctively visual texts are designed to manipulate the way we explore the images
we see and affects the way we make interpretations of the experiences we encounter in the world.
The distinctively visuals represented Tykwer s film, is significantly strong as unique images
dominate the screen to create a thrilling and suspenseful film. The story is told through images,
symbols and motifs as there is a noticeably limited amount of dialogue. I always start with an
image as quoted by Tykwer emphasising his unique ways of depicting his ideas. The most
significant visual conveyed throughout Run Lola Run is that of time. There are several
references to the limited amount of time Lola has to save Manni from Ronnie and his gang. The
film is played out in real time as each run takes 20 minutes to complete, adding an atmosphere of
realism and tension toward the viewer. Tykwer incorporates a variety of symbolic representations
of time through the constant use of clocks. In the opening sequence, the viewer observes a large
and dominating pendulum of the gargoyal clock swinging loudly from side to side. As Lola runs
out of the apartment, we observe a clock in Lola s bedroom. Aslo, while Manni is waiting for Lola
outside the phone booth, we constantly view him looking up at the clock outside reminding him of
how much time he has left. This constant recurring image of clocks

A Historical Background On Science And Mathematics
Time and again, when referring to a historical background of a topic in science or math, we have
been exposed to only a handful of key figures and even fewer notable events without any social or
cultural context behind it. Such details are often overlooked and taught without the perspective of
the era and why it occurred at the time. There maybe several reasons for such dismissal. Within the
STEAM subjects, especially scienceand mathematics, the content strives to be empirical and
concrete without influence of culture, race, gender or era in time. It maybe useful to only highlight
few historical figures and events to maximize time in knowledge content. However, often times, the
analysis of historical context and how or why the events... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By exploring the interactions of Newton with his colleagues about his ideas and Darwin s letters to
Lyell and his grandfather s influence in theory of evolution, this essay will attempt to demonstrate
that lone geniuses in science history are illusions to make up for a good story to tell to engage
students in class. Even during his time, Isaac Newton was recognized and greatly respected by
people within various scholarly fields. Alexander Pope claimed Newton as the light to the dark and
mysteriousness laws of nature in his poem. (1 Pg. 161) However, it is rarely glorified that Newton
was not a distinguished scholar when he was younger, except in mathematics, and as an adult, he
had diverse interests, such as alchemy, and theology. As a scientist, Newton s ideas were discussed,
criticized and appreciated constantly within the scientific societies of the time. Edmund Halley, the
discover of comet and Newton s colleague, communicated about elliptical orbits and angular
momentum of planets with Newton (Pg137). This made Newton questions his own theories about
planetary motion and thus eventually lead him to publish Philosophiae Nauturalis Principia
Mathematica . In the book, he structured his argument to disprove Descartes theory and referred to
Galileo s work to explain universal gravitation. The incorporation of previous

Success of Southwest Airlines
SUCCESS SOUTHWEST AIRLINES
So, to start with, the company was founded in 16th of March, 1967 Dallas by Herb Kelleher and
Rollin King. It has a subsidiary company which is AirTran Airways. Southwest Airlines flies to 72
destinations in the United States. Key people of the company are Herb Kelleher (Co founder),
Rollin King (Co founder) and Gary C. Kelly (President, CEO Chairman). And total assets in 2010
were more than 15 billion dollars.
In simple words, more than 44 years ago, Rollin King and Herb Kelleher got together and decided
to start a different kind of airline. They began with one simple notion: If you get your passengers to
their destinations when they want to get there, on time, at the lowest possible fares, and make darn

A Relatively Happy Workforce
Network carriers have railed for decades about the power of their employee unions. But guess who
s the most unionized carrier in the nation? Southwest, of course. The airline says that 87 percent of
its employees belong to a union. Southwest has never had a strike, and now that the network
carriers have whacked away at salaries and benefits, Southwest staffers are generally the highest
paid in the industry.
Strong Management
Kelleher s bonhomie masked the discipline that Southwest has had throughout its history. The
airline has always avoided fads and eschewed anything that increased costs or complicated the basic
travel proposition. Management ranks are lean, but well compensated and, most importantly,
productive.
The Golden Rule . Treat others as you would like to be treated!
This rule simply shows how the company is working. And in my opinion it is one of the most
important reasons, why the company is so successful.
Now I d like to show a video in which you will see steward giving safety information in a little bit

Was the writing very small, written in plain English? Law 2: Under statute law, unfair terms
within a contract are deemed by the court as unenforceable. As a result, the court will remove
these terms from the standard form contract, and treat the contract as if the term was never
present (Australian Consumer Law s 23(1)). One such example of unfair terms is when a term
that allows one party (but not the other) to vary the terms of the contract after it has been agreed
to (ACL s 25(1)(d)). In order to void the term under the Act (ACL s 23 (1)), two main
requirements must be satisfied: 1.The term must be unfair and 2.The contract must be a standard
form contract In this particular case, the airline appears to have waived / varied this policy
(term) by allowing Jack to check in and board the aircraft even though he missed the Check In
Deadline by 5 minutes. Therefore, it would seem unreasonable for the airline to then attempt to
reintroduce this term of the contract in order to avoid paying a refund after they subsequently
removed him from the flight due to overbooking. In addition, it would also be unfair to not
provide a refund on items purchased (eg accommodation) as missing the Check In Deadline is
unrelated to the accommodation. Request for Further Information: What are the Conditions of

Donald Super Concept
Introduction to Life Span, Life Space Career development involves the integration of
psychological, sociological, educational, physical, economic, and chance factors that provide the
basis for a career over an individual s life (Isaacson. 1986). Career development is, in fact, a
lifelong process. (Isaacson, 1986, p. 17). Donald Super is primarily responsible for changing the
definition of vocational guidance from the process of assisting an individual to choose an
occupation, prepare for it, enter upon it, and progress in it to the process of helping a person to
develop and accept an integrated and adequate picture of himself (sic) and of his role in the world
of work, to test this concept against reality, and to convert it into reality, with satisfaction to
himself and to society. (Niles, S.G. Harris Bowlsbey, J. 2013). Super s multidiciplianry approach to
studying career development incorporated contributions from economics and sociology while
placing career behavior in the context of human development. Among the many important
theoretical contributions of originally suggested the important role of the self concept in career
development in a 1949 Donald Super was his emphasis on career development as a process of self
concept implementation. Super speech made in Fort Collins, Colorado, and later published in
1951. As Donald Super stated in his 1953 American Psychologist article: The process of vocational

The Late 19th Century Hypersexualization Of Salome, By...
The main focus of this article was on the depiction of the figure Salome, and the meanings behind
these interpretations. Lawrence Kramer discusses this topic on two fronts: the late 19th century
hypersexualizing of Salome and a more critical approach that stresses the study of the music itself.
The author presents the works of many late 19th centuryartists and draws upon criticism/discussion
of more modern scholars to help make his point. He concludes that though it would be easy to
analysis Salome, especially in the late 19th century, as the Freudian trend towards sexualizing
everything, it also provides a deeper view of the cultural underpinnings that create some of these
dated and misogynistic notions/ideas.
The author begins by presenting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As was mentioned in class, Kramer highlights to artistic and cultural depictions of Salome not only
as a product of their time, but as objects with social agency, object that created the zeitgeist of their
time. This demonstrates a real life example of Frith s idea that identity is created through music, or
in this case that arts. In this discussion around a female figure, the artists who present their
interpretations of her not only contribute to the artistic realm, but inform and reinforce social
dynamics. The musical examples that the author presents in his discussion serve as bridge between
the literary criticism their musical embodiment. It also highlights the manner in which issues
surrounding gender were discussed which, as seen with previous examples (Crawford and Copland),
shares much of the same language when addressing issues around race and ethnicity. Also, when
looking at the dichotomies inherent in the representations of John and Salome (Christian v.s.
Hebrew, tonal v.s. atonal, male v.s. female), the emerging sentiment is that of us v.s. them, which
serves as the basis for many misunderstandings or problems around race and ethnicity. This then
ties into the idea of politics in music, such that a composer or group of people are not only creating
and accepting a certain identity, the very act of doing so can be against mainstream or country
currents. It could be understood as revolutionary acts.

Pros And Cons Of Brian Mulroney
Martin Brian Mulroney was the 18th Prime Minister of Canada and indeed a leader full of great
qualities (Sawatsky 7). Born in a small town in Quebec, Mulroney was a bilingual Anglophone who
harbored a tremendous political ambition (22). He belonged to the Progressive Conservative party
and came to power in 1984 (Parker 22). Mulroney significantly affected the Canadian history
through his socio political, environmental and economic reforms. He had a powerful, tremendous
and symbolic impact on Canadian history, socio politically by passing the Indian Act, the
Multiculturalism Act and introducing Meech Lake and Charlottetown Accords., environmentally
by signing Air Quality Agreement, the Montreal Protocol and cancelling the National Energy
Program... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First of all, the introduction of Goods and Services Tax by Mulroney built the foundation for
eliminating federal deficit, which occurs when the government spends more money than it makes
(Parker 22). Deficit increased the selling off of the capital assets in Canada to finance the purchases
of slowly diminishing goods and services, which undermined future production and raised
unemployment rates and inflation (Swatsky 309). Not only did the introduction of GST
overcame deficit by a significant amount, it also proved to be an important source of generating
revenues, improving the competitive position of Canada s economy in the world and acting as
an efficient way for managing the country (Good and Bad sides of GST). This could be justified
though the fact that when Mulroney introduced the GST, the revenues grew by one third, and
GDP by 1.2%. Although it was not enough to stop deficit at first, it did slow it down and
eventually hauled it (Coyne). But at the same time, his attempt to stop deficit limited his ability
to deliver the promises he made in terms of services and infrastructures.(Info base Learning).
Secondly, the signing off the Free Trade Agreement with United States and North American
Free Trade Agreement with the addition of Mexico came as a great economic contribution to
Canadian history as it marked the creation of the largest free trade region in the world. With the
elimination of tariff and non tariff barriers, NAFTA opened gates for Canada towards economic
prosperity and growth. With no imposed taxes, NAFTA provided Canada access to the wider
range of Mexican and U.S markets, expanding Canada s productivity and allowed Canada to
attract more U.S investors, firms and companies to Canada, to invest in the wide variety of natural
resources, and. This also led to a huge burst in job opportunities in the trade and service sectors

Essay On Curb Appeal
If you re trying to sell your home, you know the importance of curb appeal. But, did you know
that you can improve your curb appeal without spending a lot of money? Here are six tips to help
you add pizzazz to your home without putting a strain on your budget:
Paint your front door. What does your front door look like right now? Does it look tired? Are
there markings on it? One of the easiest ways to add a little pop to your front entrance is to
repaint your front door. Maybe add a little burst of color while you re at it something like red,
turquoise, or blue.
Update your lights. If you ve lived in your home for a while, you might not even realize how
outdated your exterior lighting may be. By upgrading your light fixtures, you ll immediately
brighten your home s curb appeal. If you don t want to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most important things you can do to improve the curb appeal of your home is to
clean up your yard. Take the time to manicure your lawn and make it as green as possible (even if
you have to spray it green!). Trim the trees and bushes. Plant new flowers in your yard or even a
tree (if feasible). You may even consider installing flower boxes by your windows or in your front
porch area.
Power wash your house. We don t realize how dirty our homes get over time. A good power
wash will take away the grime and allow your home s true color to shine through again. You can
either rent a power washer or hire someone to help you. Additionally, you should power wash your
windows and screens to make sure they are bright and clean as well.
Fix your driveway. When driving up to your home, one of the first things a buyer may see is
your driveway. What does it look like? Are there cracks in the concrete? Do you have trash cans
in the front? If so, do what you can to repair the cracks on your own, and simply move your trash
cans to a different location. You may even consider staining your driveway to give it a little extra

A Brief Note On Arizona State University For Admission
I am applying to Arizona State University for admission to the Master of Science Program in
Industrial Engineering. I am interested in learning subjects like Statistics, Operational research,
Computer aided manufacturing, six sigma, Product development, Project management, Supply
chain management, Quality control and Information systems engineering.
I was brought up in a small village in India, where agriculture was the primary occupation. My
father, being a farmer could not either use modern equipment or adopt good farming practices in
agriculture to get high yields. It was because he lacked formal education in his life. He realized
that education is a key to replace an empty mind with an open one. He felt that higher quality
education is the need for my future. So, he encouraged me to apply for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya
(JNV) schools run under The Ministry of Human Resource Development in India. JNV schools
were specifically tasked with finding talented students in rural areas of India and provide them with
higher quality education. I got admission in this top tier school based on merit in the entrance
exam. After getting admission in this school, I had to stay away from my parents in a residential
hostel. During that time, I have learned to be self dependent, disciplined and sportive.
While I was preparing for the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya school entrance exam, I have developed
an interest in Mathematics. Since then, I started learning more about Mathematics. This

Outsourcing Jobs Causes a Negative Economic and Social Effect on American Workers Do you
work at the same company your father does? Does your father work at the same company your
Grandfather did? Few companies employ multiple generations these days. Have you wondered
what happened to all the jobs? One reason for the decrease in jobs could be attributed to
outsourcing. Merriam Webster s Third New International Dictionary defines outsourcing as the
procurement by a corporation from outside and especially foreign or nonunion suppliers of parts it
formerly manufactured. To American workers, the definition means, you are unemployed. This

Companies are not required to provide full benefit packages to temporary or part time employees.
Terminate a few long term employees and replace them with temporary workers at lower wages.
Temporary or part time workers generally receive little or no benefit packages at all.
How do you search for a job when you have been out of the market for the past 20 years? More and
more jobs today require college degrees. Many assembly line workers started their jobs right out
of high school, therefore, very few have college degrees. It is harder to compete in today s job
market. The insecurity of finding employment is ever looming.
There are jobs that can be had rather quickly; i.e., low wage jobs like fast food or retail. It is
impossible to support a family on a minimum wage. Converting middle wage jobs to foreign
countries leaves a smaller job pool workers must fight to get into. Once those jobs are gone the
only thing left are high wage positions that require degrees or low wages jobs that do not furnish
enough income to be above poverty level. How does this affect employees of the future?
There is a clichГ© that says, customer loyalty starts with employee loyalty. Working for an
employer that is outsourcing jobs around you creates a sense of mistrust. Employees that mistrust
the company will not feel loyalty to the entity that provides the weekly paychecks. Lack of loyalty
can take on many forms:

Analysis Of John Hawthorne s White Whale
Nathaniel Hawthorne is a standout amongst the most productive symbolists in American writing,
and an investigation of his images is important to comprehension his books. As a rule, an image
is something used to remain for something else. In writing, an image is frequently a solid article
used to speak to a thought more theoretical and more extensive in degree and significance
regularly an ethical, religious, or philosophical idea or quality. Images can go from the clearest
substitution of one thing for another, to manifestations as monstrous, complex, and puzzling as
Melville s white whale in Moby Dick. A moral story in writing is a story where characters, articles,
and occasions have a shrouded importance and are utilized to present some widespread lesson.
Hawthorne has an immaculate climate for the images in The Scarlet Letteron the grounds that the
Puritans saw the world through moral story. For them, basic examples, similar to the meteor
streaking through the sky, got to be religious or good understandings for human occasions. Items,
for example, the framework, were formal images for such ideas as sin and contrition. While the
Puritans made an interpretation of such customs into good and severe activities, Hawthorne turns
their understandings around in The Scarlet Letter. The Puritan group sees Hester as a fallen lady,
Dimmesdale as a holy person, and would have seen the hidden Chillingworth as an exploited person
a spouse deceived. Rather, Hawthorne

Price Elasticity of Demand
The Price Elasticity Coefficient and Formula: * Price elasticity of demand = consumers
responsiveness/sensitivity to a product s price change * A product is elastic if a small change in
its price elicits very large changes in the quantity demanded. * * Movement on the demand curve
ex. products that are not required in people s daily lives are often elastic products. (not necessity
but luxury) * A product is inelastic if a big price change elicits very little influence on the quantity
demanded. * Minimal movement on the demand curve * ex. products that are required in people s
daily lives are often inelastic products. (not luxury but necessity)
It is important to keep in mind that elasticity involves percentage change in price and quantity
demanded; not absolute change.
Midpoint Formula for calculating elasticity: * We use the formula in computing the price
elasticity coefficient. * Ex: A change of $4 $5 along a demand curve is a 25% increase, but the
opposite price change from $5 $4 along the same curve is a 20% decrease. Since elasticity should
be the same whether price rises or falls, the midpoint formula is needed. * This formula simply
averages the two prices and the two quantities as the reference points for computing the percentages.
* Ex: the reference point for the

The Beginning of Everything
Humanity s faith in God reeled when after years of creation going uncontested Sir Charles Darwin
introduced his theory about the origins of species and evolution. From this two groups emerged;
evolutionists, who believe that modern day life forms evolved from smaller and more primitive
organisms, and creationists, who continued to believe that everything was created by a higher
power. Each side produced credible arguments, but at the same time, the counter arguments where
just as substantial. Because of this, the quarrel between evolutionists and creationists is far from
ending. But one should never base their beliefs on the status quo. To choose one s belief... Show

evolution often support each other despite the fact that the two groups seem to always be at
odds. Most Cosmologists believe that the universe began about thirteen point seven billion years
ago, in an event called the big bang. Theoretical physicist, Nobel laureate in physics, and atheist
Steven Weinberg describes the beginning of the universe; in the beginning there was an
explosion, within three minutes ninety eight percent of the matter that was or ever would be

universe was a steady state with no beginning and no end. The bible disagreed with that. Theist
astronomer George Lemaitre was the first scientist to figure out the basics of the beginning of
the universe, and led to the theory of the big bang . He explained the description of the big bang,
a sudden explosion of light coming from seemingly nothing, is exactly what he would expect if
God gave the command found in Genesis 1:3 let there be light. (King James Bible, Genesis. 1:3)

How Did The Sputnik Change The World
The world experienced very many huge moments, such big moments in which sometimes you don

the earth and traveling at about 18,000 mph. It took approximately 98 minutes for it to rotate the
earth which meant it passed the United States seven times a day. The sputnik had a diameter of 22

and that a loss of that friend could hurt so much. In this poem he is saying that he has wasted a

a man sweetly and silently reminiscing the experiences of the past. Also, he is experiencing
fierce pain for the wasted time and is hurting a lot. In the second quatrain of the sonnet the pain
is much more as he thinks about the people that will never be in his life ever again. This makes
him cry because the pain he experiences is relived again. In the third quatrain the debt of pain is
reopened and he must pay the entire amount again. In this poem he is basically crying about all

The Process Of Choosing The Perfect Boat Essay
How to Pick the Perfect Boat
It doesn t matter if you already own a boat, or are thinking about purchasing your first one, having
knowledge beforehand will help you when making an important decision. There are some key steps
that one should follow in order to help ensure that you pick the best boat for your needs.
Here is some advice you should consider if you want to ensure that the investment you are making
is a sound one.
Figure out a budget
First things first, you need to think about how much you want to spend on the boat. You not only
need to think of the initial cost of purchasing a boat, but you also need to keep in mind how much
you will be spending monthly and annually towards the boat. If you set up a payment plan on a
boat, instead of buying it out right, you will need to not only consider the monthly repayments, but
also the costs of fuel, maintenance, hull cleanings, insurance, as well as any dockage and storage
fees you might have to pay. In addition, taking this into consideration can help you determine if
you should buy a new or a used boat.
What are you going to use the boat for?
This is an important question you must ask yourself. Many times the type of activities you plan on
doing can narrow down your choices for you. Most vessels can be ... Show more content on

throughout the book, although he doesn t emerge as such until the climax. Violence, unjustified
murder, and betrayal are all part of the kid s nature, a built in instinct that awakens once he joins
Glanton s Gang, a cruel group of scalpers who complete their task for money, then entertainment,
and finally simply out of built in drive and experience. The kid and his companions act as a
catalyst for the hatred, violence, and greed rife in Blood Meridian s landscape. Much of the
violence that McCarthy portrays is simply violence for its own sake, and is perpetuated
throughout the plotline as a way of life. McCarthy s Blood Meridian focuses on a theme of
nihilism through this violence. The violence for its own sake, or senseless violence , lines up well
with this idea perpetuated throughout. According to Merriam Webster dictionary, nihilism is
defined as the rejection of all religious and moral principles, often in the

stakeholders have the power of either blocking your business or letting it roll successfully. You

example you are into a project in which your boss will be extremely interested and so will be

What Does The Fire Symbolize Miss Havisham
The novel, Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, uses the symbolism of fire during the incident
at Miss Havisham s home. This symbolism represented many things, mainly Miss Havisham s
personality and her life.
Charles Dickens included this incident of the fire at Miss Havisham s house in his novel, Great
Expectations, to symbolize the personality of Miss Havisham. Although a fire should warm a
room, the fire in her house seems to keep the house cold. At first Pip notices that there are no fires
there. They are extinguished representing that the is no life there. The house, like Miss Havisham

Two Main Differences And Similarities Between Written And...
Let me start by defining constitution. A constitution is a set of fundamental rules, regulation and
principles established to govern the affairs of a state or an institution. There are two main types of
constitution; the written (codified) constitution and the unwritten (uncodified) constitution. Firstly,
let me define what is meant by a written constitution. It is a formal document, stating the nature of
the constitutional arrangement, the rules that govern the political system and the rights of citizens
and the government institute in a codified form. According to the dictionary meaning, Codified
form is to collect and arrange in a systematic form. That is, the constitution that governs the state is
written in a one piece or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This constitution usually comes into development by practice. Pek (2008) gives emphasis to the
nature of the UK s constitution, that even though there are some parts of the UK constitution that
are codified, it is still not enough to classify it as a written constitution, since there has been no
collective comparing by the people . The unwritten constitution is characterized by parliamentary
supremacy, royal prerogatives, unitary and monarchical tendencies. In the United Kingdom, one
would certainly argue that they have a constitution, but it is one that exists in an abstract sense,
comprising a host of diverse laws, practices and conventions that have evolved over a long period of
time. Most people argue that the current constitutional settlement in the United Kingdom reflect the
principle of parliamentary supremacy. This means that Parliament can enforce any changes to the
constitution as it wants. Most people would argue that introducing a codified constitution would go
against the principle of parliamentary supremacy. The United Kingdom have all the characteristics
of an unwritten constitution. That is no codified, flexible, not organized etc. Now coming back to
it having a written form. What would be the advantage? As the advantages of a written constitution
have been seen above, it can also be applied in this case. It would be rigid due to the

Figurative Language And Symbolism In Sailing The Byzantium
Literature is always personal, always one man s vision of the world, one man s experience (W.B.
Yeats n.d.). Such perspicacity is evident in the works of William Butler Yeats, whose collection of
poetry, The Tower, reflects his fascination with mysticism and the days of yore. The poem Sailing
the Byzantium illustrates how William Butler Yeats
use of artistic diction and symbolism reveals the
parallels of ancient civilization and the cycle of life and communicates the dual themes of
obsolescence and perpetuity. Yeats elegy, details a metaphoric spiritual journey of renewal to the
holy city seeking intellectual refuge within an artifice of eternity (Yeats, Lines 16,24). His use of
figurative language elicits both the somber and nostalgic tones evident throughout the poem.
Metaphorically, the speaker emphasizes the theme of obsolescence by alluding to his own physical
limitations and concern for his own mortality living in a country unfit for old men among... Show

Modernist poet, William Butler Yeats, use of figurative language and symbolism expresses his
own trepidations of aging and mortality, as well his longing to sail beyond the physical temporal
world into the antiquity of Byzantium. The holy city exists as an infinite elusive realm out of
nature ; a mystical place where a numinous spirit triumphs over the dying animal and through
empyrean wisdom and intervention, he emerges from the gyre...an artifice of eternity (Line 19,

Examples Of Worthy And Unworthy Worship
a. The Worthy and Unworthy Worship
Worship is about God and for the glorification of His name; it is a celebration of love that gives
life and empowering to His people, who worship Him in righteousness through obedience.
Specifically, worship involves abandoning oneself to God as an offering that is being represented
by his sacrifice to atone for his sin. Significantly, people come to His presence to verbalize their
deep affection for Him through such an ardent worship. The Bible delineates that God shows
unreserved favor to those who faithfully love Him with all their heart, soul, and strength
(Deuteronomy 6:5); but on the other hand, God hates and curses those who do not love Him and
worship Him selfishly.

They would normally hear His voice to give them divine guidance, warning and instructions on how
they should live, worship and maintain their relationship with Him. (Genesis 4:7). Adam and Eve

and instructions. (Romans 10:17) Furthermore, they were trained properly to worship God through

An excellent example of worthy and unworthy worship in the Old Testament is that of Cain and
Abel since it is the first arresting message of God in Genesis after the fall man and persuasively
an essential message of redemption. Both Cain and Abel worshiped God but approach it
differently. Remarkably, Abel loved and feared God most of all in his life that he carefully
obeyed all His instructions and requirements for worship, while Cain selfishly worshiped God
according to His will and presumptions. Abel, in awe of his creator, offered God the best firstlings
of his flocks and their fat portions. The aroma of Abel s offering reached God and was well pleased

Abstract
Congenital heart defects have become more prevalence in infants in the United States. The causes
of congenital heart defects in infants are unknown. However, several factors have been linked to
prenatal factors such as maternal insulin dependent diabetes, maternal alcoholism, maternal rubella
during pregnancy, and maternal age over forty. Many infants have been diagnosed with congenital
heart defects in utero and the first week of life. Congenital heart defects have been detected in utero
with the use of ultrasound in obstetric care. Other congenital heart defects have been diagnosed
during the first week of life with symptoms in infants such as failure to thrive, failure to grow,
feeding intolerance, hypoxia, signs and symptoms of congestive heart failure. The objectives of this
paper are to present overviews of the congenital heart defects and outline the surgical treatments for
the congenital heart defects. Keywords: congenital heart defects, surgical treatments

Moreover, Deikman asserts that sometimes we perceive our emotional reactions as
representations of our true self because they are so powerful as to be felt reverberating through
our entire body, and beyond our ability to control. This suggests these experiences are more at
the core of our being, as well as completely reflecting the personal beliefs that are most important
to us (Deikman, 1983, p.93). Thus, as I worked at reconciling my previous experiences with my
expectations for the last values based negotiation. I did not expect there to be any real
opportunities for the two parties to come together based on shared interest. Not to say that I would
not try to promote a discourse predicated on the value to be reaped by both parties, via an interest
centered agenda. But, for this potentially emotionally charged meeting, I had a few lessons to
incorporate, which I had advantageously gleaned during the semester. For instance, I knew the
power of values, which are steeped in emotions, which posed a challenge to my standard
strategically controlled manner of trying to engage the pro interest, versus positional process.
Consequently, assessing outcomes in an objective manner, can become difficult, and in the worst
situations seemingly impossible. This realization also

Theme Of Altruism In Good To A Fault
ISU Response 1
The novel Good to a Fault by Marina Endicott, primarily revolves around the theme of altruism.
The novel begins with Clara who gets into a car accident with another family who happens to
already be dealing with many other conflicts. After the accident occurred, the mother of the victim s
household was admitted to the hospital and found out that she had cancer. It appears that the family
were financially unstable and that they were living in their vehicle moving from town to town,
which met with an accident. As a result of guilt and pure kindness, Clara takes in the kids and their
grandmother to their home. On the outside this seems like a kind, selfless act, but in her thoughts
the readers understand that she sometimes does not believe that being so generous to others that
she barely knows is good. The text so far and the overall theme of altruism made me question
points in relation to my inquiry topic: To what extent does literature have the ability to
oversimplify reality? The author writes primarily in third person, but also writes from each person
s perspective through dialogue. The fact that the author chose to include Clara s thoughts in
addition to her actions, really enhanced my understanding of Clara s personality. At first, Clara
seemed like a kind individual helping others from the goodness of her heart, but as I progressed
into the novel I realized that she feels that being kind is only solution and is pressured by it.

Gender Roles In The Play Trifles
The play Trifles takes place in the early 20th century, with gender roles definitively established. It
represents little equality, with men assuming that they are far superior to their female counterparts.
The men in the play disregard the women as just engaging in irrelevant matters, when in fact the
women find themselves delving headlong into the investigation and stumbling upon the motive for
the murder. The play having the name Trifles is ironic in that the men assume that the women are
concerned about petty womanish things that would never be of assistance to the investigation,
when in fact the womanish things turn out to be the evidence that would be necessary to prosecute
Mrs. Wright. The men search for what they suspect to cause the motives in similar situations with
the typical mindset of a man. While the men are wasting their time thinking like typical men of the
time, they ignore the obvious clues within Mrs. Wright s daily activities, such as her sewing, the

Elizabeth Cady Stanton s Heroic Qualities
Introduction background on mid late 1800 s and the Civil Rights Movement. Define what it would
take to be a hero during that time period. (Thesis) Elizabeth Cady Stanton demonstrated how she
was a hero through her passion for women s rights, her courage to stand up for what she believed,
and her ability to overcome the discrimination that she faced all her life. Elizabeth Cady Stanton
showed heroism through her strong passion for women s rights. All throughout her life, Stanton s
actions showed how passionate and determined she was. It was these two things that were the

Question 1: Explain the theoretical rationale for the NPV approach to investment appraisal and

This first section of this paper will provide a brief explanation on theoretical rationale for the net
present value (NPV) method of investment appraisal and then compare its strengths and
weaknesses to two alternative methods of investment appraisal, those of internal rate of return
(IRR) and pay back.
Theoretical rationale for the NPV approach

G is also happy to invest because they can borrow against the future payoff of the investment. By
investing G gets ВЈ20,000 more to spend today (ВЈ200,000 less ВЈ180,000). It would pay for either
investor to borrow to invest in the opportunity due to the returns on offer.
Despite the reality of known imperfections in capital markets (e.g. taxation, transaction costs,
asymmetric information), overall the use of NPV makes sense as a corporate objective. Certain
imperfections can be modelled into financials, providing a more realistic picture. Brealey et al
(2008) state that the use of NPV for uncertain cash flows makes sense too, providing there is free
access to competitive capital markets. This is due to when affirm chooses only positive NPV
projects, they will be meeting the shareholders and firms objective of maximising wealth. Instead of
solely seeking a maximisation of wealth that might negatively impact in other areas (e.g. future
profits, return on investment etc), NPV accounts for the time value of money, opportunity cost of
capital and differences in project rates of return.
Comparison of the strengths and weaknesses of the NPV approach to two other commonly used
approaches
This report will now focus on comparing the strengths and weaknesses of the NPV approach to two
other investment appraisal approaches, internal rate of return (IRR) and pay back.

Everyone always asks How can I get a job if I need work experience, and I need a job to get
experience? well this would be one way to acquire work experience. If everyone worked for a
foundation for about a year, then everyone would have a year s work of experience! This would
be guaranteed training that everyone would receive, that employers could recognize as experience
of working as a team, following directions, getting jobs done, providing and helping for others and
on and on. With mandatory civil service or Armed Service participation, more students would have
work experience to take with them to college and potentially higher paying jobs. On top of all of
this, a student who already has an idea of what he or she wishes to major in or join to work force
in would have the opportunity to check it out beforehand. There are thousands of organizations and
foundations they would be able to join. Giving them this foreshadow of their field could potentially

that where 80 percent of all businesses fail in the first five years, 75 percent of all Business Format
Franchises succeed! These numbers make it very scary to even think of opening your own business.
I found it pretty interesting how the colors of your uniforms, the shapes or symbols on you
business card or sign and even the walls and flooring can affect how successful your business is.
He says that instead of saying Hi, may I help you? try Hi, have you been in here before? By
doing this he says that by doing this one thing your sales will increase between 10 and 16 percent
almost immediately. That is astonishing, and what s even more unbelievable is that almost every
retail shop that you walk into they are still using the Hi, may I help you? routine.
I believe the most important thing to do when opening a business I make sure you have your
primary aim. This is what the owner really wants and wishes for out of his life. By defining this,
the owner will be pushed to pursue his entrepreneurial dreams.
This is a great book. I recommend that everyone thinking of opening a business, or already a
business owner should read this book. It has some very good information that could help out with

Diction In The Raven
In the classic poem, The Raven , Edgar Allan Poe explores the effects of isolation and grief. The
Raven follows a man who laments his lost love, Lenore. When a raven enters his chamber, and
repeatedly says nevermore, the narrator s inner struggle with his state of mind is revealed.
Through the use of imagery and diction in stanza five, Poe expresses the narrator s fear and
sorrow after losing his loved one. Poe s utilizes imagery to portray the narrator s struggle to cope
with the loss of Lenore. For instance, when the narrator opens the door to see who is knocking,
he recounts, Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing (Poe 25). Poe
s use of imagery reveals the speaker s trepidation as fear is instilled... Show more content on

Poe establishes fear when the narrator says, [...]the silence was unbroken, and the stillness gave no
token (Poe 27). Words such as silence , unbroken , and token emphasize fear. Silence instills fear as
Moreover, Poe establishes sorrow when the narrator conveys, [...] the only word there spoken
was the whispered word, Lenore? /This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word,
Lenore! (Poe 28 29). Lenore is repeated two times to emphasize her importance to the narrator.
The narrator thinks about the supernatural influence, however, all he hears is an echo. Although
he sees no one at his door, he calls out for Lenore, in hopes she will respond to him. After his call
for Lenore, nothing more is said by either him or the mysterious echo. RELATE TO THESIS Poe
uses imagery and diction to portray the narrator s state of mind. Poe s descriptive language
demonstrates the narrator s sorrowful life without Lenore, and Poe s choice of words reveal his
fear towards the sinister raven. For the sorrowful and fearful narrator, the whole world seems to be
bleak and terrifying. Everything, even darkness, reminds him of his lost love,

To Build The Wall
To Build Or Not To Build The Wall. My opinion is that we should build a wall, what is yours?
The reason I am in favor of the wall is because 12 million immigrants cross the border every year
illegally. Doesn t the wall mean that we will start a bad relationship with Mexico? No, they
should realize that there people are just pouring in America so a wall means that we would have
an extra line of defense. In a year 12 million illegal immigrants would come here from Mexico and
they could be brining guns/ drugs. Do you really wantthat in America. We should build the wall
because the positives out way the negatives. We will be stopping drugs and guns if we put up that
wall. The illegal immigrants could be caring drugs when the cross the border.... Show more content

My first reason is that a presidential candidate wants the wall to go up. I quote that I chose is, I
ve been leading the fight in the Senate to triple the Border Patrol, to put in place fencings and
walls, to put in place a strong biometric exit/entry system (Ted Cruz). If you are a person running
for president, you don t want to do and say stupid stuff. Having said Ted still said that he would
be in favor of the wall because he realizes that these illegal immigrants need to be stopped and
have them come over legally. My second reason is governors are also in favor of the wall. The
quote I chose is, As noted in Immigration Wars, fencing is a component of border security. When
combined with surveillance technology and agents to detect and respond to crossings, fencing or
other barriers can serve several purposes, including: (1) deterring illegal entries by making it
more difficult to cross the border, (2) facilitating enforcement by increasing the time available to
respond and apprehend people, and (3) steering dangerous criminals and traffickers away from
populated areas, improving public safety. Sufficient funding should be provided to maintain,
improve, and expand fences where appropriate (e.g., based on the terrain along the border or the
proximity of populated areas) (Jeb Bush). What this is saying is that to actually really stop these
immigrants and dangerous criminals, we need something other than just the border patrol and that
something is the wall. It will only help America. Just because the media says its bad, is it really?

Iran Hostage Crisis Essay
Iranian hostility of United States can be traced back to the 1950s. The United States supported any
regime that was not communist, even though they would be considered very unpopular with the
people of their country. Because of this, Iran became an anti communist country and the Shah
became an ally of the United States. In 1950 the Shah left Iranwhen Mohammed Mossadegh was
elected Prime Minister. After Mossadegh election, he used his authority and nationalized the oil
industry in the country. This incident generated fear in the United States. The state department felt
that communists could abuse this anarchy and Iran could turn against the United States. The Shah,
who had been removed from power, contacted the United States and the Central... Show more

Routine Activity And Situational Crime Prevention Theory
Routine activity theory states that for a crime to be committed, three important factors need to be
present including: a motivated offender, an accessible target, and the absence of a capable guardian
against a violation. Marcus Felson and Lawrence E. Cohen introduced the routine activity theory in
1979, where they believed that an individual who has these three characteristics gives them a
greater possibility of committing a crime. Moreover, situational crime prevention is known as
strategies of ways for preventing or reducing the opportunities for criminals to commit crimes that
derive from the routines of an individual s everyday life. Ronald V. Clarke introduced situational
crime prevention theory in 1983, where he believed that removing the situation instead of removing
the criminal could prevent crime. In this paper, I will be discussing what routine activity/situational
crime prevention theory is, and apply two peer reviewed articles from Google Scholar that test the
routine activity/situational crime prevention theory by discussing what the authors are trying to
figure out and discuss their findings, and lastly, tie the routine activity/situational crime prevention
theory articles to our textbook in hopes to fully understand in depth what the theory encompasses.
Marcus Felson and Lawrence E. Cohen introduced the routine activity theory in 1979. They
together proposed the problem analysis triangle, which represents the three characteristics a person

Reflection Report On Roller Coasters
The roller coaster that we created was a chance for us, physics students, to work together, be
creative, and resilient if any problem were to show up. The first day that we worked on the
sketch for the roller coaster, our group was off to a good start because we all agreed with the
design and the theme. It did take about 2 3 days to start the actual model because on the first
days we didn t have any materials apart from the cardboard that Mr. Hueyopa had given us. The
theme that we chose was Star Wars, it was alright but as long as we were all able to contribute,
we were hoping to do a pretty good job. The Friday from the first week of the project, we all
brought in our materials. We bought the pipe insulators, one each. Unfortunately, with all the
material that we had available at the time, it wasn t enough to start building the actual roller coaster.
Most of my contribution were based on the materials I brought in like the tubes that served with
the purpose of supporting the pipe insulator as the pillars. I did give some advice when it came
to the whole set up of the loop and helped in on the decoration, which honestly didn t come out as
we had expected it to be. I was also in charge of completing the label report for the roller coaster. I

I would also like to point out that sometimes our roller coaster was knocked over or some parts
were not the same as we had left them the day before but that was probably because everyone was

Detriments:
Over stretching or stretching to a point where pain is felt may be harmful and detrimental. Effects
on performance, both long and short term, may include injury and possible nerve damage which
can be permenant and could not be cured. Other research concludes that active stretching routines
will reduce viscosity in the joints and cause pain after some time when you get older. In sports
activities where there are little or no short stretching cycles stretching routines may be harmful to to

Immortals of Greek mythology
Greek Mythology:
Immortals
The Greeks created images of their deities for many purposes. A temple would house the statue of
a god or goddess, or multiple deities, and might be decorated with relief scenes depicting myths.
Divine images were common on coins. Drinking cups and other vessels were painted with scenes
from Greek myths.
Gods Goddesses
Aphrodite (бј€

Goddess of love, beauty, desire, and pleasure. Although married to Hephaestus she had many
lovers, most notably Ares, Adonis, and Anchises. She was depicted as a beautiful woman and of

dolphins, serpents, tigers, and donkeys. A later addition to the Olympians, in some accounts he

the Romans.
Hades (бѕЌОґО·П‚, HГЎdД“s) or Pluto (О О»ОїПЌП„П‰ОЅ, PloutЕЌn)
King of the underworld and the dead, and god of the earth s hidden wealth, both agricultural
produce and precious metals. His consort is Persephone. His attributes are the drinking horn or
cornucopia, key, sceptre, and the three headed dog Cerberus. The screech owl was sacred to him.
He was one of three sons of Cronus and Rhea, and thus sovereign over one of the three realms of
the universe, the underworld. As a chthonic god, however, his place among the Olympians is
ambiguous. In the mystery religions and Athenian literature, Pluto (Plouton, the Rich ) was his
preferred name, with Hades more common for the underworld as a place. The Romans translated
Plouton as Dis Pater ( the Rich Father ) or Pluto.

Effective Communication Within Work Place
Effective Communication within Work Place Personal experience could not been completed
without coming across lack of effective communication skills within the military. The perception I
have about the military was that military has never been a profession, but a National services
provider. All this was a result of lack of effective communication within work place.
Communication is about more than just exchanging information. It is about understanding the
emotion and intentions behind the information. Effective communication is also a two way
street. It is not only how you convey a message so that it is received and understood by someone
in exactly the way you intended. It is also how you listen to gain the full meaning of what is being
said and to make the other person feel heard and understood. Thesis: Effective communication
within work place could be achieved with effective good listening skills that eliminate barriers to
effective communication and providing feedback. Barriers to effective communication Lack of
focus You cannot communicate effectively when you are planning what you are going to say next,
daydreaming, checking text message, or thinking about something else. This is one the personal
experience I noticed in the military. However, in today s world of social network our NCOs are
facing some challenges of competing against the social media. You need to stay focus on moment

The Green Table, By Kurt Jooss And Composed By Fritz A....
The Green Table, choreographed by Kurt Jooss and composed by Fritz A. Cohen, first
premiered in Paris, France and won first place in the Paris choreographic competition held by the
International Archives of the Dance in early July of 1932 (Martin 155). Kurt Jooss (1901 1979)
was a German choreographer and dancer, as well as quite the visionary for his time. Fritz A. Cohen
(1904 1967) was a German composer, who worked closely with Jooss to create this anti war
message driven piece. The ballet Der GrГјne Tisch, subtitled, A Tatentanz, achieved praise not only
in Paris and Germany, but also Amsterdam, Brussels, London, and America (Martin 155). As
Martin sums up, In eight loosely connected scenes...it pictures the bitter futility of war (Martin
155). In other words, Jooss explores the ineffectiveness of violence through a series of scenes
depicting battle and woe. The New York stock market crash in 1929 sparked a worldwide economic
crisis ( Hitler Comes to Power ). By June of 1932, six million people were unemployed in Germany
and the economic distress led to a rise in the support for the Nazi party; consequently, the Nazi
party won the votes of almost 40 percent of the electorate in the German parliament elections of
July 1932 ( Hitler Comes to Power ). However, by November of 1932, the Nazi party lost two
million votes from the previous July ( Hitler Comes to Power ). Adolf Hitlerformed an alliance with
the conservatives and after negotiating for months, Paul von

Scientific Use Of Animals During The Space Race
Would you save a human life or a dog? During the space race, scientists used dogs and other
animals instead of humans for experiments. Before humans actually went into space, there was a
theory that humans couldn t survive long periods of weightlessness. There had been several debates
among scientists about the effects of prolonged weightness. American and Russian scientists
utilized animals such as monkeys and dogs in order to test each country s ability to launch a living
organism into space and bring it back alive and unharmed. Scientists used as test subjects before the
first astronauts went into space. According to Nasa.gov On June 11, 1948, a V 2 Blossom launched

Analysis Of Madame X
Abstract Madame X, also known as the Portrait of Madame X, is a famous painting made by
John Singer Sargent in the year 1884. A popular portrait too many, due to her mystery and
anonymous state, was once a highly controversial piece to many. As soon as John released this
painting in The Salon , one of the most popular art exhibits, the painting was greatly criticized due
to the model seeming to be flaunting and over conceited. Despite the initial negativity from the
French crowd, Madame X would soon become one of the most popular portraits in history. Now
sitting in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, this portrait has gained much praise and
appreciation from many art lovers around the world who find beauty in her mysterious figure.

Who Is The Protagonist In Greasy Lake
In the short story Greasy Lake the narrator, our protagonist, describes himself as a 19 year old
rebel, but as the story progresses, we learn how it is all a façade to try to be like the rest of the
kids his age. What started off as a joke to who he thought was his friend Tony Lovett, turned out
to be a life lesson that would crash down his false image of a bad boy. A series of events trigger
his common sense and make him see that his way of living will bring him severe consequences
or even death itself. The narrator changes his opinion on who he wants to be by the end of the
story, therefore making him a round character. When we first meet the narrator and his two
friends, we learn that [they] wore torn up leather jackets, slouched around with toothpicks in
[their] mouths, sniffed glue and ether and what somebody claimed was cocaine (129). This is
an example of the rebellious things he does in order to keep up his bad character image. He goes
to the lake because that is where all the bad people hang out to watch a girl take her clothes off
and plunge into the festering murk, drink beer, [and] smoke pot (129). The lake itself represents
how rotten today s adolescents have become, so that is why the lake is the center of it all. His
fight with the man he describes as a greasy character shows how he tries to go along with his
façade, but fails miserably when he gets kicked under the chin, until he knocks him out with the
tire iron. Just when he thinks it s all over, a

going to learn about what Mormons view of beliefs of creation and death. At the end of the paper
we will look at how Mormonism compares to my current religions views. However, we need to
understand how Mormonism started and some of the main beliefs they currently hold. Mormonism
was founded by Joseph Smith in the mid 19th century Northeast United States. The largest Mormon

But what I have found is that, while I do occasionally go to an Assembly of God Church which
is Christian based. What sticks out to me though in doing the research in dealing with death, that
can also help me move forward and find that connection with God and the mourning for my
father. Mourning not only is appropriate; it is also one of the deepest expressions of pure
love:..... Mourning can heighten our faith and our hopes. The Prophet Joseph Smith said, The
expectation of seeing my friends in the morning of the resurrection cheers my soul and makes me
bear up against the evils of life. It is like their taking a long journey, and on their return we meet
them with increased joy (Gillespie, K. L. (2011, May 27).) This to me is the biggest difference
from my understanding of my religion. I have always felt that as long as I said I believed in God
and was typically a good person, I would go to heaven and meet up with my family. However,
for Mormonism, it is not as simple. You have to dedicate your life to God, and to your family.
That is the reason why going on these missionaries are so important to them. You are giving back
to others that are in need and are working to spread the knowledge from the gospel not only about
creation and how to deal with death, but everything in between. While not specifically pertaining to
death and

  • 2. Run Lola Run by Tom Tykwer Run Lola Run by Tom Tykwer is a stunning film incorporating an array of distinctively visual features. Distinctively visual texts are designed to manipulate the way we explore the images we see and affects the way we make interpretations of the experiences we encounter in the world. The distinctively visuals represented Tykwer s film, is significantly strong as unique images dominate the screen to create a thrilling and suspenseful film. The story is told through images, symbols and motifs as there is a noticeably limited amount of dialogue. I always start with an image as quoted by Tykwer emphasising his unique ways of depicting his ideas. The most significant visual conveyed throughout Run Lola Run is that of time. There are several references to the limited amount of time Lola has to save Manni from Ronnie and his gang. The film is played out in real time as each run takes 20 minutes to complete, adding an atmosphere of realism and tension toward the viewer. Tykwer incorporates a variety of symbolic representations of time through the constant use of clocks. In the opening sequence, the viewer observes a large and dominating pendulum of the gargoyal clock swinging loudly from side to side. As Lola runs out of the apartment, we observe a clock in Lola s bedroom. Aslo, while Manni is waiting for Lola outside the phone booth, we constantly view him looking up at the clock outside reminding him of how much time he has left. This constant recurring image of clocks ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. A Historical Background On Science And Mathematics Time and again, when referring to a historical background of a topic in science or math, we have been exposed to only a handful of key figures and even fewer notable events without any social or cultural context behind it. Such details are often overlooked and taught without the perspective of the era and why it occurred at the time. There maybe several reasons for such dismissal. Within the STEAM subjects, especially scienceand mathematics, the content strives to be empirical and concrete without influence of culture, race, gender or era in time. It maybe useful to only highlight few historical figures and events to maximize time in knowledge content. However, often times, the analysis of historical context and how or why the events... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By exploring the interactions of Newton with his colleagues about his ideas and Darwin s letters to Lyell and his grandfather s influence in theory of evolution, this essay will attempt to demonstrate that lone geniuses in science history are illusions to make up for a good story to tell to engage students in class. Even during his time, Isaac Newton was recognized and greatly respected by people within various scholarly fields. Alexander Pope claimed Newton as the light to the dark and mysteriousness laws of nature in his poem. (1 Pg. 161) However, it is rarely glorified that Newton was not a distinguished scholar when he was younger, except in mathematics, and as an adult, he had diverse interests, such as alchemy, and theology. As a scientist, Newton s ideas were discussed, criticized and appreciated constantly within the scientific societies of the time. Edmund Halley, the discover of comet and Newton s colleague, communicated about elliptical orbits and angular momentum of planets with Newton (Pg137). This made Newton questions his own theories about planetary motion and thus eventually lead him to publish Philosophiae Nauturalis Principia Mathematica . In the book, he structured his argument to disprove Descartes theory and referred to Galileo s work to explain universal gravitation. The incorporation of previous ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Success of Southwest Airlines SUCCESS SOUTHWEST AIRLINES So, to start with, the company was founded in 16th of March, 1967 Dallas by Herb Kelleher and Rollin King. It has a subsidiary company which is AirTran Airways. Southwest Airlines flies to 72 destinations in the United States. Key people of the company are Herb Kelleher (Co founder), Rollin King (Co founder) and Gary C. Kelly (President, CEO Chairman). And total assets in 2010 were more than 15 billion dollars. In simple words, more than 44 years ago, Rollin King and Herb Kelleher got together and decided to start a different kind of airline. They began with one simple notion: If you get your passengers to their destinations when they want to get there, on time, at the lowest possible fares, and make darn ... A Relatively Happy Workforce Network carriers have railed for decades about the power of their employee unions. But guess who s the most unionized carrier in the nation? Southwest, of course. The airline says that 87 percent of its employees belong to a union. Southwest has never had a strike, and now that the network carriers have whacked away at salaries and benefits, Southwest staffers are generally the highest paid in the industry. Strong Management Kelleher s bonhomie masked the discipline that Southwest has had throughout its history. The airline has always avoided fads and eschewed anything that increased costs or complicated the basic travel proposition. Management ranks are lean, but well compensated and, most importantly, productive. The Golden Rule . Treat others as you would like to be treated! This rule simply shows how the company is working. And in my opinion it is one of the most important reasons, why the company is so successful. Now I d like to show a video in which you will see steward giving safety information in a little bit different way. http://youtu.be/pvdCFYLf_JI I think this video illustrated for you this company s attitude. The Case Of Thornton V Shoe Lane Parking Key Issues 1.Is Jack Sprat bound by the exclusion clause within the Conditions of Carriage of AusFly Airlines that he has agreed to but not read, and was such an exclusion clause effectively brought to Jack s attention? 2.Is Jack Sprat s injury (ie severe allergic reaction) the result of the negligence of Smithy s Fine Jewellers (Smithy s) the supplier, and can a clause excluding liability from negligence be enforced? Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Was the writing very small, written in plain English? Law 2: Under statute law, unfair terms within a contract are deemed by the court as unenforceable. As a result, the court will remove these terms from the standard form contract, and treat the contract as if the term was never present (Australian Consumer Law s 23(1)). One such example of unfair terms is when a term that allows one party (but not the other) to vary the terms of the contract after it has been agreed to (ACL s 25(1)(d)). In order to void the term under the Act (ACL s 23 (1)), two main requirements must be satisfied: 1.The term must be unfair and 2.The contract must be a standard form contract In this particular case, the airline appears to have waived / varied this policy (term) by allowing Jack to check in and board the aircraft even though he missed the Check In Deadline by 5 minutes. Therefore, it would seem unreasonable for the airline to then attempt to reintroduce this term of the contract in order to avoid paying a refund after they subsequently removed him from the flight due to overbooking. In addition, it would also be unfair to not provide a refund on items purchased (eg accommodation) as missing the Check In Deadline is unrelated to the accommodation. • 6. Donald Super Concept Introduction to Life Span, Life Space Career development involves the integration of psychological, sociological, educational, physical, economic, and chance factors that provide the basis for a career over an individual s life (Isaacson. 1986). Career development is, in fact, a lifelong process. (Isaacson, 1986, p. 17). Donald Super is primarily responsible for changing the definition of vocational guidance from the process of assisting an individual to choose an occupation, prepare for it, enter upon it, and progress in it to the process of helping a person to develop and accept an integrated and adequate picture of himself (sic) and of his role in the world of work, to test this concept against reality, and to convert it into reality, with satisfaction to himself and to society. (Niles, S.G. Harris Bowlsbey, J. 2013). Super s multidiciplianry approach to studying career development incorporated contributions from economics and sociology while placing career behavior in the context of human development. Among the many important theoretical contributions of originally suggested the important role of the self concept in career development in a 1949 Donald Super was his emphasis on career development as a process of self concept implementation. • 7. The Late 19th Century Hypersexualization Of Salome, By... The main focus of this article was on the depiction of the figure Salome, and the meanings behind these interpretations. Lawrence Kramer discusses this topic on two fronts: the late 19th century hypersexualizing of Salome and a more critical approach that stresses the study of the music itself. The author presents the works of many late 19th centuryartists and draws upon criticism/discussion of more modern scholars to help make his point. He concludes that though it would be easy to analysis Salome, especially in the late 19th century, as the Freudian trend towards sexualizing everything, it also provides a deeper view of the cultural underpinnings that create some of these dated and misogynistic notions/ideas. The author begins by presenting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As was mentioned in class, Kramer highlights to artistic and cultural depictions of Salome not only as a product of their time, but as objects with social agency, object that created the zeitgeist of their time. This demonstrates a real life example of Frith s idea that identity is created through music, or in this case that arts. In this discussion around a female figure, the artists who present their interpretations of her not only contribute to the artistic realm, but inform and reinforce social dynamics. The musical examples that the author presents in his discussion serve as bridge between the literary criticism their musical embodiment. It also highlights the manner in which issues surrounding gender were discussed which, as seen with previous examples (Crawford and Copland), shares much of the same language when addressing issues around race and ethnicity. Also, when looking at the dichotomies inherent in the representations of John and Salome (Christian v.s. Hebrew, tonal v.s. atonal, male v.s. female), the emerging sentiment is that of us v.s. them, which serves as the basis for many misunderstandings or problems around race and ethnicity. This then ties into the idea of politics in music, such that a composer or group of people are not only creating and accepting a certain identity, the very act of doing so can be against mainstream or country currents. It could be understood as revolutionary acts. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Pros And Cons Of Brian Mulroney Martin Brian Mulroney was the 18th Prime Minister of Canada and indeed a leader full of great qualities (Sawatsky 7). Born in a small town in Quebec, Mulroney was a bilingual Anglophone who harbored a tremendous political ambition (22). He belonged to the Progressive Conservative party and came to power in 1984 (Parker 22). Mulroney significantly affected the Canadian history through his socio political, environmental and economic reforms. He had a powerful, tremendous and symbolic impact on Canadian history, socio politically by passing the Indian Act, the Multiculturalism Act and introducing Meech Lake and Charlottetown Accords., environmentally by signing Air Quality Agreement, the Montreal Protocol and cancelling the National Energy Program... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First of all, the introduction of Goods and Services Tax by Mulroney built the foundation for eliminating federal deficit, which occurs when the government spends more money than it makes (Parker 22). Deficit increased the selling off of the capital assets in Canada to finance the purchases of slowly diminishing goods and services, which undermined future production and raised unemployment rates and inflation (Swatsky 309). Not only did the introduction of GST overcame deficit by a significant amount, it also proved to be an important source of generating revenues, improving the competitive position of Canada s economy in the world and acting as an efficient way for managing the country (Good and Bad sides of GST). This could be justified though the fact that when Mulroney introduced the GST, the revenues grew by one third, and GDP by 1.2%. Although it was not enough to stop deficit at first, it did slow it down and eventually hauled it (Coyne). But at the same time, his attempt to stop deficit limited his ability to deliver the promises he made in terms of services and infrastructures.(Info base Learning). Secondly, the signing off the Free Trade Agreement with United States and North American Free Trade Agreement with the addition of Mexico came as a great economic contribution to Canadian history as it marked the creation of the largest free trade region in the world. With the elimination of tariff and non tariff barriers, NAFTA opened gates for Canada towards economic prosperity and growth. With no imposed taxes, NAFTA provided Canada access to the wider range of Mexican and U.S markets, expanding Canada s productivity and allowed Canada to attract more U.S investors, firms and companies to Canada, to invest in the wide variety of natural resources, and. When driving up to your home, one of the first things a buyer may see is your driveway. What does it look like? Are there cracks in the concrete? Do you have trash cans in the front? • 10. A Brief Note On Arizona State University For Admission I am applying to Arizona State University for admission to the Master of Science Program in Industrial Engineering. I am interested in learning subjects like Statistics, Operational research, Computer aided manufacturing, six sigma, Product development, Project management, Supply chain management, Quality control and Information systems engineering. I was brought up in a small village in India, where agriculture was the primary occupation. My father, being a farmer could not either use modern equipment or adopt good farming practices in agriculture to get high yields. It was because he lacked formal education in his life. He realized that education is a key to replace an empty mind with an open one. He felt that higher quality education is the need for my future. So, he encouraged me to apply for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) schools run under The Ministry of Human Resource Development in India. JNV schools were specifically tasked with finding talented students in rural areas of India and provide them with higher quality education. Outsourcing Jobs Causes Negative Economic Effect 2,060 words/9 pages Outsourcing Jobs Causes a Negative Economic and Social Effect on American Workers Do you work at the same company your father does? Does your father work at the same company your Grandfather did? Few companies employ multiple generations these days. Have you wondered what happened to all the jobs? One reason for the decrease in jobs could be attributed to outsourcing. Merriam Webster s Third New International Dictionary defines outsourcing as the procurement by a corporation from outside and especially foreign or nonunion suppliers of parts it formerly manufactured. More and more jobs today require college degrees. Many assembly line workers started their jobs right out of high school, therefore, very few have college degrees. It is harder to compete in today s job market. The insecurity of finding employment is ever looming. There are jobs that can be had rather quickly; i.e., low wage jobs like fast food or retail. It is impossible to support a family on a minimum wage. Converting middle wage jobs to foreign countries leaves a smaller job pool workers must fight to get into. Once those jobs are gone the only thing left are high wage positions that require degrees or low wages jobs that do not furnish enough income to be above poverty level. How does this affect employees of the future? There is a clichГ© that says, customer loyalty starts with employee loyalty. Working for an employer that is outsourcing jobs around you creates a sense of mistrust. Employees that mistrust the company will not feel loyalty to the entity that provides the weekly paychecks. • 12. Analysis Of John Hawthorne s White Whale Nathaniel Hawthorne is a standout amongst the most productive symbolists in American writing, and an investigation of his images is important to comprehension his books. As a rule, an image is something used to remain for something else. In writing, an image is frequently a solid article used to speak to a thought more theoretical and more extensive in degree and significance regularly an ethical, religious, or philosophical idea or quality. Images can go from the clearest substitution of one thing for another, to manifestations as monstrous, complex, and puzzling as Melville s white whale in Moby Dick. A moral story in writing is a story where characters, articles, and occasions have a shrouded importance and are utilized to present some widespread lesson. Hawthorne has an immaculate climate for the images in The Scarlet Letteron the grounds that the Puritans saw the world through moral story. For them, basic examples, similar to the meteor streaking through the sky, got to be religious or good understandings for human occasions. Items, for example, the framework, were formal images for such ideas as sin and contrition. While the Puritans made an interpretation of such customs into good and severe activities, Hawthorne turns their understandings around in The Scarlet Letter. The Puritan group sees Hester as a fallen lady, Dimmesdale as a holy person, and would have seen the hidden Chillingworth as an exploited person a spouse deceived. Rather, Hawthorne ... This violence and nihilism, however, is not limited to just to the landscape, but to its inhabitants as well, transforming them into merciless killers with no regard for the fragility that comes along with being human. Throughout Blood Meridian, Cormac McCarthy provides an image of the American Southwest during the 1850s, one that is of savagery and lawlessness. It appears that the family were financially unstable and that they were living in their vehicle moving from town to town, which met with an accident. As a result of guilt and pure kindness, Clara takes in the kids and their grandmother to their home. On the outside this seems like a kind, selfless act, but in her thoughts the readers understand that she sometimes does not believe that being so generous to others that she barely knows is good. The text so far and the overall theme of altruism made me question points in relation to my inquiry topic: To what extent does literature have the ability to oversimplify reality? The author writes primarily in third person, but also writes from each person s perspective through dialogue. The fact that the author chose to include Clara s thoughts in addition to her actions, really enhanced my understanding of Clara s personality. At first, Clara seemed like a kind individual helping others from the goodness of her heart, but as I progressed into the novel I realized that she feels that being kind is only solution and is pressured by it. • 34. Gender Roles In The Play Trifles The play Trifles takes place in the early 20th century, with gender roles definitively established. It represents little equality, with men assuming that they are far superior to their female counterparts. The men in the play disregard the women as just engaging in irrelevant matters, when in fact the women find themselves delving headlong into the investigation and stumbling upon the motive for the murder. The play having the name Trifles is ironic in that the men assume that the women are concerned about petty womanish things that would never be of assistance to the investigation, when in fact the womanish things turn out to be the evidence that would be necessary to prosecute Mrs. Wright. The men search for what they suspect to cause the motives in similar situations with the typical mindset of a man. While the men are wasting their time thinking like typical men of the time, they ignore the obvious clues within Mrs. Wright s daily activities, such as her sewing, the dirty table, and looking through the cabinets where they would have found the broken canary cage. (Thesis) Elizabeth Cady Stanton demonstrated how she was a hero through her passion for women s rights, her courage to stand up for what she believed, and her ability to overcome the discrimination that she faced all her life. Elizabeth Cady Stanton showed heroism through her strong passion for women s rights. All throughout her life, Stanton s actions showed how passionate and determined she was. It was these two things that were the driving force behind everything she did. This passion made Stanton hero because she was willing to go to lengths that no one else would. Though Elizabeth Cady Stanton showed her passion throughout her whole life, it became unmistakable when she was studying in her fathers law office after she graduated, when she traveled to London for the International Anti Slavery Convention, and when she worked with Susan B. Anthony. Stanton s passion for women s rights started to become evident when she studied in her father s law office. Elizabeth Cady Stanton graduated from Emma Williams Female Seminary in 1833, and then began to study laws and government history in her father s office (DISCovering Biography 4). Essay about Laurentian Bakeries Question 1: Explain the theoretical rationale for the NPV approach to investment appraisal and compare the strengths and weaknesses of the NPV approach to two other commonly used approaches. (30 marks) This first section of this paper will provide a brief explanation on theoretical rationale for the net present value (NPV) method of investment appraisal and then compare its strengths and weaknesses to two alternative methods of investment appraisal, those of internal rate of return (IRR) and pay back. Despite the reality of known imperfections in capital markets (e.g. taxation, transaction costs, asymmetric information), overall the use of NPV makes sense as a corporate objective. Certain imperfections can be modelled into financials, providing a more realistic picture. Brealey et al (2008) state that the use of NPV for uncertain cash flows makes sense too, providing there is free access to competitive capital markets. This is due to when affirm chooses only positive NPV projects, they will be meeting the shareholders and firms objective of maximising wealth. Instead of solely seeking a maximisation of wealth that might negatively impact in other areas (e.g. future profits, return on investment etc), NPV accounts for the time value of money, opportunity cost of capital and differences in project rates of return. Sufficient funding should be provided to maintain, improve, and expand fences where appropriate (e.g., based on the terrain along the border or the proximity of populated areas) (Jeb Bush). Who Is The Protagonist In Greasy Lake In the short story Greasy Lake the narrator, our protagonist, describes himself as a 19 year old rebel, but as the story progresses, we learn how it is all a faГ§ade to try to be like the rest of the kids his age. What started off as a joke to who he thought was his friend Tony Lovett, turned out to be a life lesson that would crash down his false image of a bad boy. A series of events trigger his common sense and make him see that his way of living will bring him severe consequences or even death itself. The narrator changes his opinion on who he wants to be by the end of the story, therefore making him a round character. When we first meet the narrator and his two friends, we learn that [they] wore torn up leather jackets, slouched around with toothpicks in [their] mouths, sniffed glue and ether and what somebody claimed was cocaine (129).
