What effective teachers do in the first
                       day of classes?
 Communicating classroom expectations.
 How do you expect your students to behave?
 What do you expect your students to accomplish by the end of
        the year?
 Procedures
 What are the procedures for when you miss school?
 What is the procedure for returning graded work?
 Rules
 What are the classroom rules?
 Do students know the classroom rules?
 Classroom Layout
 How are you going to organize your classroom in a way that it
        is accessible to all students?
 Classroom Climate
 What is the climate in your classroom.
 How full is your bucket?
 Most
of the teachers who have classroom
 behavior problems, lack classroom
 management skills.
 Implement these skills from day 1 and do not
     change them.
 Be fair to all students, regardless of their past
     history.
 Remember, teachers are not allowed to have a
“bad day.” We have to give 100% every day.
 Do you have a behavior plan? Think about that
before the beginning of the year.
 A teacher should build a trusting relationship
  with students.
 An effective teacher gives every student the
same consequence regardless of their past
  history.
 An effective teacher gives a student a
consequence for admitting breaking a rule.
 An effective teacher believes that a good
classroom manager is not a friend to the
  students.
 An effective teacher allows students to decide
the best way to behave in the classroom.
 An effective teacher models to students how
they are supposed to behave in the classroom.
 Let’s watch the video about the first day of
  class.
 Answer the following questions:
 What effective teachers are supposed to do in
      the first day of class?
 Review notes together.
 Introduce yourself
     Where did you graduate?
 Maybe share a team you follow
     Share a hobby
 Introduce the class you are going to teach
 In general terms, what are students going to learn
 In general terms, share an interesting project/book you are
      going to read/accomplish.
 Introduce the classroom rules (max. 5)
 Introduce the classroom consequences (max. 5)
 Emergency Clause (weapons, drugs, etc.)
 How are you going to respond to such situation ( school police
        officer).
 Finish the letter in a positive manner.
 Add your contact information
 Proofread your work!
