3. Background
The quality of education is always manifested in
the student’s performance and achievement
level.
Teaching is the schools basic production
technique and so must produce the desired result
in terms of expected cognitive, affective and
psychomotor learning outcomes that will further
evaluate the performance in the different subject
areas.
The current need for more effective teaching is a
great challenge for every English teacher.
A survey conducted by Social Weather Stations
(SWS) in March 2006 revealed that alarming
deterioration in English in Philippines.
8. Considering only the results from Public
Schools, Filipino increased by 1.88% and Mathematics
increased by 1.36%. The three subjects decreased by
10.77% for Hekasi, 2.89% for Science and 1.05% for
English.
9. Reading is a skill that gets better with practice.
More drills and practice for developing reading
would be a great help.
Chua (2008) asserted that children draw out
their competence from what they develop in
themselves (attitude or perception) and the
people around them (such as parents).
Parents as the primary educator of children,
communicate positive values such as respect,
hard work and responsibility.
11. The study was conceived for there is a great need
of finding the factors that affect the performance of
pupils in English subject.
There is an urgent need to save the increasing
number of learners who suffer from various
reading difficulties.
Through knowing and understanding the reasons
behind this dilemma, this will ensure that the
problem will be addressed and will be prevented.
12. Significance of the Study
This study on Factor Correlates of Grade Six pupil’s
academic performance in English of Libmanan North District
Northern sector during the school year 2014-2015 will be beneficial
to students, teachers, parents, administrator and future researchers.
There are 34 schools in Libmanan North District, Seven schools
belongs to the Northern sector namely; Awayan, Candami,
Candato, Mantalisay, Camambugan, Tarum and Libmanan
North Central School.
The study was limited to Grade six pupils of Northern sector
for the school year 2014-2015.
There are factors that affect the academic performance of
pupils.

This study will aim to determine the factor correlates
of Grade six pupil’s performance in English for the school
year 2014-2015.
Specifically, this study aims to answer the following
questions:

What is the level of academic performance in
English of Grade six pupils of Libmanan North District,
Northern sector?

in English in terms of:

b. Environmental factors

factors along with the academic performance of

18. Data Gathering Instrument:
Pupil’s academic grades in English from June to October covering first
and second grading period.
The researcher will make use of Questionnaires based on the issues
raised in the study
Comparative results of Pre and Post Phil Iri test of pupils s/y 2013-2014.
Population:
Grade six pupils of Libmanan North District, Northern sector for the
school year 2014-2015.
Parental involvement on some factors from problems raised.
