2. CAVE BEAR Extint from: 1794
What was it? The cave bear was a species of bear that mostly lived in Europe, but some lived
in Asia during the Pleistocene. They had similar skeletal structure as brown bears have
nowadays. The average weight for males was from 350kg to 600kg and some could even have
a weight of 1 ton, while the average weight for females was from 225kg to 250kg.
Why did it disappear? They became extinct because of the Last Glacial Maximum. This was
the most recent time during the Last Glacial Period when ice sheets were at their greatest
extent.
This may be how it
looked like in real life.
3. THE DUCK MARINE
It is a species that was found only on three small
Pacific islands.
Habitat loss due to drainage of marshland for
agriculture and damage to islands during the Second
World War were the main causes that have led to the
disappearance of this species of wild duck.
The last pair of ducks were observed in the wild.
