Creating Database Accounts and Alerts

  2. 2. Creating Accounts Benefits of Creating an Account (depends on publisher!) • Save article citations • Save searches and receive e-mail alerts • Receive alerts for new issues of selected publications • Some do not require an account, just an e- mail address.

  4. 4. EBSCOHost – Personal Account By creating a personal account – you can save your favorite articles securely, and much more! To create an account, click Sign In to My EBSCOHost.

  6. 6. EBSCOHost – Personal Account Enter appropriate information, submit, and follow any additional instructions.
  7. 7. EBSCOHost – Personal Account If you have a personal account – sign in before starting your research session.
  8. 8. EBSCOHost – Saving Article Citations While searching, you might want to save a list of articles you’re interested in. If you’re on the search results screen, click Add to Folder.

  10. 10. EBSCOHost – Saving Article Citations To see your list of saved articles, click on the Folder option at top right of screen.
  11. 11. EBSCOHost – Saving Article Citations And – here they are! WARNING – This can be lost if you are not logged in, and your browser closes, power goes out, etc.
  12. 12. EBSCOHost – Saving Article Citations This is a list of articles saved under an account. You can also organize these articles into different folders.

  15. 15. EBSCOHost – Search Alerts To you have a research topic that you would like to be kept informed of? EBSCOHost will run searches for you on a regular basis. First, run your search. Then, click Alert / Save / Share
  16. 16. EBSCOHost – Search Alerts Click E-mail alert in the pop-up box that appears.
  17. 17. EBSCOHost – Search Alerts Enter the information needed so that EBSCO can notify you when new articles matching your search are available. This includes noting how frequently you would like to be notified. Click Save Alert when finished.
  18. 18. EBSCOHost - Journal Alerts Just like search alerts, you can also be notified when the most recent issue of your favorite journal or magazine is available. (If it is included in an EBSCOHost database!) (Note: You will need to ensure that the library does have access to current issues of the journal in order to do this!)
  19. 19. EBSCOHost - Journal Alerts In an EBSCOHost database, click Publications at the top of the screen.
  20. 20. EBSCOHost - Journal Alerts Enter your journal title in the second search box, and then click browse.

  22. 22. EBSCOHost - Journal Alerts When viewing the journal information, click on Alert / Save / Share.

  24. 24. EBSCOHost - Journal Alerts Enter your contact information and any other preferences, and then click Save Alert.
  25. 25. ProQuest Journal and Search Alerts
  26. 26. ProQuest Journal Alert Choose Publications to search for your desired journal, magazine, or newspaper.
  27. 27. ProQuest Journal Alert Search for your publication by its title.
  28. 28. ProQuest Journal Alert Be sure that your publication has full text, and that the date range says “current”. Click on your publication.

  31. 31. ProQuest Journal Alert Confirmation screen. You will also need to respond to a confirmation e-mail.
  32. 32. ProQuest Search Alert You can also be alerted to articles of interest as they are published. Simply search the databases.

  37. 37. ScienceDirect – Create an Account ScienceDirect requires that you first create an account before creating journal and search alerts. After this, you may log in when using the database.
  38. 38. ScienceDirect – Create an Account Complete registration screen and account will be instantly created. Check your e-mail to learn your username.

  43. 43. ScienceDirect – Journal Alerts Enter your journal title and be sure to un-check “abstract only”. Note that a dark key symbol indicates that full- text is available.

  47. 47. Sage – Creating Account Sage Journals Online requires that you first create an account before creating journal and search alerts. To create an account, choose sign in.

  59. 59. CQ Researcher – Create Account CQ Researcher requires that you first create an account before creating search alerts. To create an account, choose Log in.
