Remembrance Day commemorates the end of World War I and honors those who have died in conflicts. It originated on November 11, 1918 to mark the armistice that ended WWI. Today it remembers all those who lost their lives in wars including WWI, WWII, the Falklands War, the Gulf War, the Iraq War, and the ongoing war in Afghanistan. The red poppy became a symbol of remembrance based on poppies that grew on the battlefields of Belgium and France, inspiring the WWI poem "In Flanders Fields." On Remembrance Day, memorial services are held and people leave wreaths and poppies to honor the dead.

The name Pangasinan means "land of salt." (The word for "salt" is asin.) Pangasinan is a major producer of salt in the Philippines.

- 5. Why wear poppies? The poppy is an international symbol of remembrance. Poppies were the first flowers to grow in the former battlefields in Belgium and France where many soldiers are buried. Their paper thin petals were the first signs of new life and renewal. They inspired John McCrae, a Canadian doctor, to write the famous war poem – In Flanders fields

- 7. Memorial Service Remembrance Day is commemorated each year. On this day people remember those who have given their lives in war. A number of special remembrance services are held. People leave wreaths and poppies to remember the dead.
