“Correlation between Eating Habits
and Nutritional Status of PNU-ITL
Students Grade 7 to Grade 10”
By: Janrey C. Tiña
Abstract
• This study examined the correlation
between eating habits and the nutritional
status of PNU-ITL Grade 7 to Grade 10
students. The respondents were given a
fifteen item questionnaire and basic
anthropometric information to identify
their eating habits and current
nutritional status.
Abstract
• Based on the findings and analyses of the
data gathered, there is a strong positive
correlation between eating habits and
the nutritional status of PNU-ITL
students. The study proved that positive
eating habits reflects a good nutritional
status of the respondents.
Objectives
1. To identify the correlation between the
eating habits and the nutritional status of
PNU-ITL grade 7 to grade 10 students.
2. To be acquainted with the most common
eating habits of the students.
Objective
3. To increase the level of awareness of
the persons involved in the research most
especially the students upon having
eating habits suitable for them to acquire
good nutrition they need for their
increasing level of growth and
development.
Respondents
• The respondents in the research is
randomly selected which comprises the
25% of the total population in each age
group of PNU-ITL students, male and
female, ages ten to sixteen years old.
These respondents belong to Grade 7,
Grade 8, Grade 9 and Grade 10,
respectively.

results
Statement of the Problem
1. What are the current nutritional status of
PNU- ITL adolescent student.
2. What are the common eating habits of PNU-ITL
students?
3. Is there a significant relationship on the eating
habits and the nutritional status of the
students?
Findings and Analysis
BMI 16.5 -18.4 = 14 out of 70 respondents
(Underweight) = 20% of the population
BMI 18.5 – 24.9 = 45 out of 70 respondents
(Normal) = 64.3% of the population
Findings and Analysis
BMI 25 – 30.5 = 9 out of 70 respondents
(Overweight) = 12.85% of the population
BMI 30.6 above = 2 out of 70 respondents
(Obese) = 2.85% of the population
1. What are the current nutritional
status of PNU- ITL adolescent student.
The study shows a normal BMI of 18.5 to 24.9 of
PNU-ITL students in general.
A weighted mean of 20.26 to 23.26 BMI value
from grade 7, grade 8, grade 9, and grade 10
have acquired by the researcher from its
respondents.
Findings and Analysis
2. What are the common eating habits
of PNU-ITL students?
• eating breakfast daily
= 68.57% of the respondents
• eating dinner at home
= 72.86% of the respondents
• eating three base meals per day
= 80% of the respondents
3. Is there a significant relationship on
the eating habits and the nutritional
status of the students?
• There is a strong positive correlation between
eating habits and the nutritional status of PNU-
ITL students.
Conclusion
• The findings reported in this thesis
revealed that the respondents in this
descriptive research significantly showed
a strong positive correlation between
their eating habits and their nutritional
status. In other words, students with
good eating habits acquire a normal
nutritional status.
Conclusion
• The result of the present study also
inveterate the strong positive correlation
between eating habits the nutritional
status of PNU-ITL students in secondary
level. Finally, the participants in the
experimental group preferred eating
breakfast daily, eating three base meals
per day and eating dinner at home as
their most common eating habits.
Conclusion
• This result on participants preference in
their eating habits corresponds to their
normal and good nutritional status gained
in questionnaires.
Recommendation
• The PNU-ITL should give priority
attention in seeking ways to bolster the
ability of the study to contribute to
understanding of health disparities
among children in different grade level
and other population groups, including
the reassessing of the school canteens
and cafeterias to oversee this area and
the encouragement of appropriate
adjunct studies.
