Guess the number
About the game Use to develop skills in halving and estimation Can be used to teach concept of estimation and halving – when children play the game, it will develop their estimation skills
What we like about it A good tool for a teacher to teach estimation A fun way for children to learn and develop halving and estimation concept It follows the behaviourism theory – there’s a stimulus (the questions), response (pupils’ response) and habit formation (children keep on trying to guess the number – using their estimation skill)
What we don’t like about it It’s suitable for high level students Teacher needs to explain and facilitate the pupils while they are playing the game, so that they can understand it (the concept, the instructions) Teacher should model playing the game first. Teacher needs to provide vocabulary needed for the game before the pupils start playing the game. Pupils may get bored if they can’t guess the correct number after a number of guesses The instructions could be simplified, used more colourful and animated graphics – teacher can even create her/his own estimation games to suit the pupils’ levels.
