1. SHIFT
In the scene where Estela (Yeng Constantino) and Trevor (Felix Rocco) became partners. Social
Penetration Theory was evidently present in this scene when Estela partnered to Trevor. The
relationships that they have to each other are very shallow but as time passes by they’ve got the
chance to know each other. Trevor taught Estela the things she needs to know in her job and
because of that, there relationship was built. Whatever they’ll do, they are together. They eat
together, shopping to mall together and even when they are in their own houses. They’re still
communicating each other. As their relationship become stronger their feelings that they have to
each other it seems that it’s going deeper to the point that Estela fell in love to Trevor which is in
love with somebody else.
In relation to the first scene that stated above, Expectancy Violation Theory is also present in the
movie. There is a scene where in Estela asked Trevor if he loves her but he didn’t answer back.
Estela walked out and rode a taxi. I chose Expectancy Violation because in this scene, Estela is
expecting that in a way Trevor also feel the same thing like what she has to him but
unfortunately, Trevor didn’t felt the same coz’ he’s already have somebody else.
Interpersonal Deception Theory was present in this scene. When Estela felt that she was madly
fell in love to Trevor and she already know that he didn’t feel the same thing. And there she
chose to stay away from Trevor to ease the pain that she was feeling that time. She started to
ignore all the text messages of Trevor to her and when they are in the office she still ignores him.
Then Trevor noticed that Estela was staying away from him that’s why he interrupted her but no
matter what he does, Estela still ignores him. Then there comes a time when Estela texted Trevor
to hang out with her. Then there, Trevor got the chance to ask her what is happening to them but
Estela told him that there’s nothing wrong but the truth is there is really something wrong. She
chose to lied to Trevor because she knew that he will never get the chance to loved her back.
2. KABISERA
This scene has Expectancy Violation Theory when Andres (Joel Torre) want his daughter Ana
(Meryl Soriano) to hold their marriage at their home town. Ana and her fiancé refuse to the favor
of Andres because they wanted to get married in Manila. But Andres, as a father he wants to be
with his one and only daughter so he tried to propose to Ana that if he built a house to them they
will transfer to their province because Andres wants to be with his daughter and with his
upcoming grandsons. In an instance, Ana and his fiancé didn’t grant his wish. Expectancy
Violation Theory was evidently seen in this scene. Andres expected that his wish would be
granted but unfortunately it didn’t happen.
When Jose is persuading Andres to sell a large amount of drugs in their hometown because
according to him they will get more income . Reinforcement Theory was present in this scene
because like Andres, he took the proposal of Jose to him even if he knew that it’s very dangerous.
At first, Andres didn’t want to be part of this group but due to lack of financial income he take it.
Attitude in the scene changes from an opinion changed and produced through Reinforcement in
areas such as attention, comprehension and acceptance. Andres might think that this is the way to
escape from poverty and he believes that with this kind of work, it will lead him to
righteousness.
Cognitive Dissonance was present in scene when Andres decided to be the Boss of their inside
job. He believes that he is in the right path that’s why he prefer to do this. He thinks that this kind
of work will be the best way to success. Cognitive Dissonance is present here because like
Andres, even if he knows that being a dealer is wrong.
3. BLUE BUSTAMANTE
Apparently, George had been fired by his work so he needs to look for another job. Then
Roger introduced a job to him wherein in this work he’s a stuntman. He needs to wear a costume
of a super hero called Blue Force.
On the other hand, George didn’t tell to his wife Juniper that he transferred to another job. He
told Juniper that he’s doing good in his work but the truth is he’s already fired with the said
work.
George doesn’t like the concept of wearing a fitted costume and acting like an artist because
according to him, he’s not an artist type. But Roger refuse to him and said that George and his
body is really fit with the character of Blue Force.
As time passes by, George has been attached being the character of Blue Force. He started to
like acting like a super hero and fighting for the freedom and peace of the world. Especially
when he found out that his son Kiko watched his show and that Kiko loved Blue Force, he then
have a reason to work hard and act better.
In this movie, I choose Social Penetration Theory. It is applicable to the scenes wherein the
relationship of George to Blue Force goes deeper and also it includes the Reinforcement theory
because as time passes by, the attitude of George becoming a so called super-hero has been
changed. He learn to loved the character of Blue Force. The movie also contains the theory of
Interpersonal Deception Theory because in the movie, there is a scene where George lied to
Juniper that he’s still an engineer but the truth is he is now the stuntman of Blue Force.
2. In the movie Ganito kami Noon Paano kayo Ngayon gives us a glimpse from the past on how
Filipinos lived in the hands of the Spaniards and Americans whom colonized our country.
Somehow this movie tells us how Spaniards and Americans treat our fellow citizens during that
time and what government we had way back then. If you noticed in the movie, those who are
well-educated are favorable and those who didn’t have a chance to go to school are the poor
ones. For me, this movie aims to tell that we Filipinos can do better things even if you didn’t
studied. Just like Kulas (Christopher De Leon) , the protagonist, people judged him because he
wasn’t able to be at school when he was young but then even if he’s not that educated man he
still have a warm heart who always forgive those people who hurt him. He’s a type of a person
who chose to be hurt just like what he did to Diding. Kulas did his best to give to Diding what
she wants but after all of his hardworks, Diding left him and choose to be with Don Tibor (Eddie
Garcia).
4. Kulas portrayed a Filipino who always aim what’s the best for his loved ones even if it will
cost he’s own happiness. He cared a lot to ever people that he may encounter. For me, this movie
tells how brave and strong the Filipino is. They fight for what is right and for what they want.
On the other hand, Diding also portrayed a Filipino who dreams big. And in order to pursue
that dream she needs to be practical. She chose Don Tibor over Kulas because she knew that Don
Tibor will help her to pursue her dreams and she knows that he have a lot of connections.
Social Penetration Theory was evidently seen in the movie. I noticed this theory in the scene
where Kulas saw Diding at the forest. At that very moment, Kulas has been mesmerized by her
beauty. Fortunately, he got the chance to know a lot of things to Diding when he found out that
just like him, they will travel to Manila to present a theatre. As time passes by, their relationship
jump into another level. But when they reached to Manila Kulas and Diding got separated
because of some circumstances that comes to them. But because of the loved that Kulas have for
Diding, he look for her in ever town and then there they finally meet again. They have been
husband and wife for some quite time.
