Role of media in our lives
1. The Role of Media
in our Lives
Media terms- This is my first blog entry and is based
upon the role of media in our lives, changes in media
and what the term 'the media' actually means.
2. What is the Media?
The term 'the media' is the different mass communications
that influence people widely for example: television, the
radio, the newspapers etc.
3. What is Web 2.0?
Web 2.0 is the second stage of development of the World
Wide Web, which was extremely useful for the growth of
social media as it allows constant updates to be made
rapidly, whereas Web 1.0 allowed more static information
which is updated less frequently.
4. What is Mediation?
Mediation refers to what the media do, and what we do with
the media. This process is the altering of information that
can very strongly effect people’s perception towards
different people and different topics. For example a picture
of a celebrity hugging a close friend can be exaggerated by
the media to make the two people appear to be dating.
5. What is Proliferation?
Proliferation is the rapid increase in the amount of hardware
and context available for the film industry's institutions and
audiences.
6. What is Media Saturation?
Media saturation is the constant overuse of different types
of media to advertise different texts.
7. What does it mean when
Media products are shared?
When media products are 'shared' in the market, this means
that the texts become a part of our common culture
available to be consumed by any audience via the media. In
countries such as Burma, China and Ethiopia the media is
strictly regulated because the governments want to maintain
control on both traditional and new media to avoid potential
submersion of its authority.
8. What is Media convergence?
Media convergence is the combination of different medias
into one for example newspapers are now available online
to download as a progression on technology.
9. Why is the Media important?
In todays society the media is important as it gives us a
sense of being. An involvement of a wider community,
which is available to interact sharing different influences to
an international audience. The media are a central part in
our lives as it informs us what is going in in the world and
also provides us with entertainment. This also creates many
jobs in the media, as it is a very profitable and successful
industry.
