    • I. Early Phase of F & I War

      • B. Began w/ Washington’s defeat
      • C. The goal during this phase of the war was to capture enemies forts.
    • II. The First World War?

      • C. 1757 War extends to global scale

        • 3. France was winning big around the globe
        • 4. Left only 10,000 French troops in N.A.
    • III. Middle Phase 1758-1760
      • A. Tide Turns
      • B. William Pitt assumes control of British forces
      • C. Assigns best general and supplies to war effort in N.A.
        • 1. 1758 Amherst captures Louisburg
        • 2. Seize Fort Duquesne (rename Fort Pitt)
    • IV. The Final Phase (1759-1763)
      • A. 1759 known as “Year of Victories”
      • B. If British wanted to win they had to capture Quebec
        • 1. Capital set on Plains of Abraham
        • 2. Was well defended
        • 3. British Surprise French
        • 4. Win a bloody victory, September 18, 1759 French surrender to British!
    • Capture of Quebec 1759
    • V. The Treaty of Paris
      • A. Fighting continues in Europe until 1763
      • B. Treaty of Paris ends War (known as the Seven Years War around the world)
        • 1. Marks end of French power in North America.
        • 2. France gives up most lands in N.A.
        • 3. British control all land from Atlantic to Mississippi River.
        • 4.Spain gains land from Miss. River to Pacific.
    • North America as it looked in 1753, Notice the amount of land the English claim
    • Territory gained as a result of the Treaty of Paris 1763 (Florida was included as well, but that came from Spain!)

      • 1. What would have happened had the British not assisted the colonists in this conflict?
