2. December 8, 1941
-Japan invaded the Philippines. Clark Airbase
in Pampanga was first attacked and also
Nichols Field outside Manila was attacked.
December 22, 1941
-The Japan forces landed at the Lingayen
Gulf and continued on to Manila.
3. On Christmas Eve 1941, General MacArthur sailed to
Corregidor Island along with the U.S. high
commissioner Francis Sayre, President Manuel
Quezon, and Vice-President Sergio Osmena. Left
behind in Manila was Secretary of Justice Jose
Laurel, who was sympathetic to the Japanese.
Quezon was said to have advised Laurel to “Keep
your faith in America, no matter what happens.”
MacArthur was reported to have warned Laurel not to
swear allegiance to Japan - “or else, when we come
back, we’ll shoot you'

5. Douglas MacArthur was born in
Little Rock, Arkansas, on
January 26, 1880. After
graduating from West Point
in 1903, he fought in World
War I, and in World War II
was the commander of Allied
forces in the Pacific. When
he criticized President Harry
Truman's handling of the
Korean War, he was relieved
of his command. MacArthur
died on April 5, 1964, and
was buried in Norfolk,
Virginia.

6. January 22 - Manila was occupied by the
Japanese.
April 9, 1942 - The joint American and Filipino
soldiers in Bataan finally surrendered.
" 76,000 captured soldiers were forced to
embark on the infamous "Death March" to a
prison camp more than 100 kilometers north.
An estimated 10,000 prisoners died due to
thirst, hunger and exhaustion."
7. "DEATH MARCH"
The Bataan Death March was the forced march of
American and Filipino prisoners of war by the
Japanese during World War II. The 63-mile
march began with 72,000* prisoners from the
southern end of the Bataan Peninsula in the
Philippines on April 9, 1942. The horrible
conditions and harsh treatment of the prisoners
during the Bataan Death March resulted in an
estimated 7,000 to 10,000 deaths.
8. THE HUK REBELLION

In the midst of fear and chaos, some farmers of pampanga banded
together and created a local brigades for their protection. Luis Taruc,
Juan Feleo, Castro Alejandrino and other leaders of organized farmers
held a meeting in Feb. 1942 in Cabiao, Nueva Ecija.
9. September 20, 1943- the KALIBAPI under the
leadership of its director Gen. Benigno
Aquino held a party convention to elect 54
members of the National Assembly.

• October 4, 1943- the new republic was
inaugurated
10. October 20, 1944- The Americans landed
triumphantly in Leyte. General Douglas
MacArthur have returned.
October 23-26, 1944- The Americans engaged
Japanese forces in the Battle of Leyte Gulf.
Mid. December - The American soldiers had
reached Mindoro
11. December 8, 1944 - President Laurel and his cabinet moved to Baguio upon orders
of Yamashita who is also known as the tiger of Malaya.
January 9, 1945- US Liberation forces succesfully docked at Lingayen Gulf.
July 4, 1945- General MacArthur finally proclaim freedom from the independence
from the Japanese.
12. Tomoyuki Yamashita (November 8, 1885 –
February 23, 1946) was a general of the
Japanese Imperial Army during World War II. He
was most famous for conquering the British
colonies of Malaya and Singapore, earning the
nickname "Tiger of Malaya." An American
military tribunal tried General Yamashita for war
crimes relating to the Manila Massacre and
sentenced him to death. This case has become
a precedent regarding the command
responsibility for war crimes and is known as
the Yamashita Standard. Yamashita was hanged
on February 23, 1946, at Los Baños Prison
Camp. His chief of staff in the Philippines, Akira
Mutō, was executed on December 1948 after
having been found guilty of war crimes by the
International Military Tribunal for the Far East.
