Enrichment Card
1. Yes, as long as the producers and the decomposers are present.
2. If there were no decomposers in an ecosystem, nutrients from
dead organisms could not be recycled and plants would not
have the raw materials they need for making food. Without food,
all organisms in an ecosystemwould not survive.
3. Destruction of balance in nature will occur and all living things
will die because they are interrelated to one another.
Feeding Interrelationships Among
Living Organisms
Task Analysis
Learning Competency: Observe and describe feeding
interrelationships among the living organisms
Subtasks:
1. Identify the producers and consumers in an ecosystem
2. Illustrate the feeding relationships between organisms
through a food chain / food web
Guide Card
Are you ready?
Wait, Kuya Pao! Let me
introduce myself, Iโ€™m Jumbo,
the everybodyโ€™s bestfriend.
Before we will start the I
Survived: A Sci Game Show.
Let us welcome our juries:
All living things or organisms need
food in order to survive. Only green
plants like me and other
photosynthetic organisms (like
algae) can produce our own food
using the energy of sunlight. Others
called us Autotrophs or self-feeders.
So, if you want food, just win the
game.
For the reward challenge, you will have the chance to win โ€œEAT
ALL YOU CANโ€ in a famous food chain in a forest and in a pond.
Lastly, for the Immunity challenge, the winning survivor will grab
the food web showcase.
Hi! My name is Eagle, one of
the Heterotrophs or
consumers who ultimately
live in the energy produced
by Autotrophs. And I will
assure you castaways if you
surpass all the challenges,
you will have the chance to
visit my kingdom.
Decomposers as they called us. We
break down wastes and the remains
of dead plants and animals into
simple nutrients which are returned
to the soil. Others termed us
Recyclers also. If you lose the game
I will decompose you so win the
battle.
And for the much awaited prize
Food chain
consists of a
series of
animals that eat
plants and other
animals
Food web is an
overlapping
series of food
chain.
Activity Card 1
From the organisms below, list down the producers,
consumers and decomposers in their proper heading.
Mushroom Algae Rice plant
Bacteria Grass Caterpillar
Chicken Insects Earthworm
Lizard Pechay Worms
Producers Consumers Decomposers
Activity Card 2
Making Food Chain
Complete each food chain by filling out each box with
the name of an organism.
1.
2 .
3.
Activity Card 3
Make a series of food chain using an arrow.
Assessment Card 1
1. Why are green plants called โ€œproducersโ€?
a. they are plentiful c. they make food
b. they are edible d. they grow fast
2. A chicken ate a worm that ate the leaves of a plant. A
snake ate the chicken. What is the chicken called?
a. Main producer c. Secondaryconsumer
b. Primary consumer d. tertiary consumer
3. How are organic nutrients returned to the non โ€“ living
environment?
a. Through the action of decomposers
b. Throught the water cycle
c. Through the animals in the ecosystem
d. Through the plants in the ecosystem
4. Which organism in the food chain gets the least energy?
Rice mouse snake eagle
a. Rice c. Snake
b. Mouse d. Eagle
5. What does a food chain show?
a. Relationship among plants
b. Relationship among non โ€“ living things
c. Relationship among living things
d. Relationship among animals
Assessment Card 2
Read the poem. Then illustrate the feeding relationship among the
organism cited in the poem through a food chain.
A Food Chain
Up sprang a frog
Where insects were eating leaves
Under a log
Then came a snake
And it swallowed the frog
Then came a hawk
Guess what it got?
Assessment Card 3
Study the illustration thoroughly then answer the questions that
follow.
1. two primary consumers
a. _____________________ b. _____________________
2. two secondaryconsumers
a. ____________________ b. _____________________
3. two decomposers
a. ____________________ b. _____________________
Enrichment Card
Answer these questions correctly.
1. Is it possible that an organism can be a sourceof food several
times to other organisms?
________________________________________________________________
________________________________________________________________
________________________________________________________________
2. What do you think would happen if there were no decomposers
in an ecosystem?
________________________________________________________________
________________________________________________________________
________________________________________________________________
3. Predict what will happen if some organisms or consumers
became extinct.
