web site.
INDEXING
• Process of
identifying the
words and
expressions
that best
describes the
page and
assigning the
page to
particular
keywords.
PROCESSING
• when ever a
search requests
comes it
processes it
i.e.…, it
compares the
search string in
the search
request with the
indexed pages in
the database.
CALCULATING
RELEVANCY
• Since it is likely
that more than
one page
contains the
search string so
the search engine
starts calculating
the relevancy of
each of the pages
in its index to the
search string.
RETRIEVIN
G RESULTS
• Basically, it
is nothing
more than
simply
displaying
them in the
browser.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
SEARCH ENGINE RANKING
When you search for any keyword using a search engine
then it displays thousands of results found in its database.
A page ranking is measured by the position of web pages
displayed in the search engine results.
If search engine is putting your web page on first position
then your web page rank will be number 1 and it will be
assumed as with a high rank.
You can check rank of any website on www.alexa.com
WAYS OF DOING SEO
• Providing good content, good
keywords selection, putting keywords
on correct places, giving appropriate
title to every page etc.
On Page
SEO:
• Link building, increasing link popularity
by submitting in open directories,
search engines, link exchange etc.
Off Page
SEO:
Conceptually there are 2 ways of doing SEO
SEO OPTIMIZED KEYWORDS
Keyword is a term that a person enters into a search engine to find specific
information.
Most people enter search phrases that consists of between two and five words.
Such phrases may be called search phrases, keyword phrases, query phrases, or
just keywords.
One technique that often works well is to create some smaller pages, generally just a
paragraph long, which emphasize a particular keyword.
By keeping the overall number of words to a minimum, you will increase the "weight"
of the keyword you are emphasizing.
Having keywords in the first heading and in the first paragraph (first 20 words or so)
on a page is the best strategy.
STRATEGIES…
 Domain name plays a very key role in SEO. Try giving
a keyword in your domain name itself and it would add
a plus point to your website in SEO.
 Filename should be appropriate and you should give
your filename according to the content loaded on the
webpage. It should be separated by hyphens rather
than a underscore.
 Filename should be short simple and it should be easily
understandable and memorable. To state an example
eBay, Wikipedia, Jabong etc..,
 The page title (not to be confused with the heading of
the page) is what is displayed in the title bar of your
browser window. This is the one place on a web page
where your keywords MUST be present.
 Correct use of keywords in the title of every page of
your website is extremely important to Google -
particularly for the home page.
TO BE KEPT IN MIND
No ads if possible on the companies web-site. Because most of the ads uses java
script which is not advised to be used.
JavaScript drop down menus prevent spiders from crawling beyond your homepage.
No fancy stuff (flash, splash, animated gifs, rollovers etc.) Unless absolutely
necessary.
No unnecessary directories. Keep your files as close to the root as possible.
WAYS OF LINK BUILDING IN SEO
ORGANIC INORGANIC
 Submit your site in popular search engines
manually. Submit your site to bookmark sites
like digg, & Slashdot.
 Ad-networks for other non-google display ads
 You can go for alternative advertising option to
increase the number of hits on your site which
will result in your site link popularity.
 Subscribe for Google's AdWords program to
drive traffic towards your site.
 Buy a place on high rank website where you
can put your link.
 YouTube in-lay video ads
 Getting your link clicked as many times as
possible. E.g. PPC, Google pays so n so
amount for getting maximum clicks for a
particular link..
 Publishing your link on Social Media through
Social Media Marketing.
 Write good articles in blogging sites and give
few references of your links with-in that article.
 If you are subscribed in a forum & forum does not
have any restriction to keep your site link as your
signature then it can help you to increase your site
popularity.
 Getting listed in Dmog.com, yahoo.com will
give your site a boost in link popularity &
improve search engine ranking in other search
engines.
 Provide high quality content - people will
naturally link to your site if you have what they
want and nowhere is available.
 Participate in link exchange program. Find top
20 sites doing the same business and contact
them for reciprocal links
