DAY 2 (3rd March 2015)
Day two of the 5th Paras Diwan Memorial International ‘Energy Law’ Moot Court
Competition started off satisfactorily with over 34 teams gathering their wits to
battle it out in the subsequent preliminary rounds.
The day officially commenced with the briefing of judges, who were absolutely
delighted to visit CoLS, UPES. They definitely looked happy and were glad to be a
part of this prestigious competition.
The first round was divided into two sessions. Officially, all the teams had a pretty
smooth start until the judges started grilling them. Some teams started falling short
of arguments for which they were severely reprimanded.
The feedbacks were quite positive. Quite a lot of judges were impressed with the
standard of mooting. They also sang praises for the internal staff and were quite
eager to go out and roam around Dehradun. The judges were impressed with the
quality of arguments advanced during the sessions. They were mesmerized by the
enthusiastic participation pouring in throughout the length and breadth of the
country. The inclusion of ICSID (International Centre for Settlement of Investment
Disputes) gives an edge to the competition as it brings the concept of Energy Law
in consonance with Arbitration.
The students’ feedback consisted of their praises for the judges who were well
versed with the facts and had quite a lot of genuine tips for the participants. Some
teams even voiced the point that the judges completely changed their line of
thought and they were forced to improvise.
After the end of all discussions and the culmination of Preliminary Rounds, the
teams were asked to proceed to the venue of the Cultural Night, and High Tea.
