3. IEEE
IEEE is the world’s largest professional membership association dedicated
to advancing technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of
humanity.
+430,000 members in 160 countries
IEEE publishes a third of the world’s technical literature in electrical engineering,
computer science and electronics.
Nearly 4 million documents in the IEEE Xplore® Digital Library, with more than 8
million downloads each month
IEEE journals are consistently among the most highly cited in electrical and
electronics engineering, telecommunications, and other technical fields
4. ORCID
Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID) is a non-profit organization
dedicated to solving the long-standing name ambiguity problem in scholarly
communication by creating a central registry of unique identifiers for individual
researchers and an open, transparent linking mechanism between ORCID and
other current author identifier schemes.
In the absence of unique author identifiers, you’re often forced to manually
disambiguate your metadata to correctly match your authors with their articles.
ORCID allows you to reliably and unambiguously link your authors with their
complete, correct, and current scholarly output, which helps you track their
unique contributions.
5. IEEE is a member, sponsor and big
fan of ORCID
In a recent survey of 6,000 people (mostly researchers) carried out by ORCID,
more than 70% said they would welcome compulsory use of ORCID iDs in
publishing workflows.
On January 7, 2016, a coalition of publishers signed an open letter committing to
start requiring ORCID iDs in 2016. The publishers will require ORCID iDs for
corresponding authors during the publication process.
IEEE is one of these signatories of this open letter.
6. IEEE Publication Process
1. All IEEE journals require an ORCID for authors
2. The author will need a registered ORCID in order to submit a
manuscript or review a proof in an IEEE journal
3. They will only be required for the corresponding authors of journal
papers (not coauthors or conference authors)
4. When a paper is submitted, coauthors will receive a link to create an
ORCID account, but this is optional
10. Authors can register, or link, their
ORCID in IEEE Collabratec
IEEE Collabratec is an integrated online community where
technology professionals can network, collaborate, and create - all in one central
hub.
15. ORCID Benefits
As a persistent identifier for contributors to the research process, ORCID
will assist to:
1. Disambiguate author names
2. Improve discoverability of author’s work
3. Improve attribution of author’s work
4. Easily and correctly connect authors with their research activities,
outputs, and affiliations.
