Social Search Trumps Search
Simon Baptist
Group Head of Social Media, European Directories
29th June 2011
Background
Yesterday, 28th June, I was asked to suggest a location to meet someone from my network for an after-work drink
I remembered that a new bar is due to open today that is half-way between his office and mine
I was very surprised at the results of how I found the company to pass onto him
2
Commercial in Confidence
I Did a Named Search on Google.Result = Not Found
3
Commercial in Confidence
I Decided to Try Facebook Search.Result = Found!
4
Commercial in Confidence
Thoughts
This one example could be an outlier but for me personally it was interesting for a couple of reasons:
The initial fact that I thought to search on Facebook after Google failed
The surprise I had when I got the result I was looking for
What does it mean

I take it as another positive note for the “you need to be in it to win it” reason for companies to have a Facebook presence

And not forgetting

I Liked The Craft Beer Co. in the Facebook search results and all that entails in terms of Commercial Conversations for Lead Generation

5
Commercial in Confidence
