2. The aim and purpose of this PowerPoint is to receive
peoples, and mainly my target audiences, feedback and
impressions of my initial ideas.
This in turn will allow me to edit my ideas and produce
a magazine front cover, contents page and double
page spread that I know my target audience would
enjoy.
To do this, I will ask my peers to take a look at this
PowerPoint with me present, and I will jot down their
reactions and some of their quotes. This will allow me
to assess their thoughts and feelings in relation to the
ideas I presented to them.
Aim and Purpose
3. BAM! Stands for British
Alternative Music in my
alternative magazine, what
the acronym stands for will
be edited depending on
which of the 3 ideas I decide
upon.
Magazine Name – BAM!
4. Similar content to Q
Cover a wide range of genres and popular music
Colour Scheme: Red, Black, White, Blue – British
Audience – 16-35 year olds (peer group, young
adults, and middle aged adults) – both genders
One letter title
Layout similar to one shown
Upper class look
General Feedback
“I like the audience, quite broad and can draw
people in”
Idea One
“Colour scheme matches most music, associate
that to Britain”
“Colour scheme may be a bit too ‘in your face’ ”
Acronym idea is good, colour scheme is unusual.
Layout looks a little cramped. Having title in
similar position shown would be a bad idea.
5. Genre: Indie Rock
Colour Scheme: Red, Yellow, Black, White
Audience – 16-20 boys
One letter title
Layout similar to one shown
3 images of same person on front cover
Placed on front cover via effects
In example – ripped
Different in my magazine
General Feedback
“I like the specific audience for a specific genre”
Idea Two
“The colours sort of stand out, the red and the
yellow”
“Looks crowded”
3 images could be tough to do – if pulled off
would work well
Nice genre – specific
6. Focus on alternative rock
Have the artist coming into the title like shown (middle
man)
Colour scheme: Red, White, Black (staple of all my
magazines)
Audience: 16-20 year olds – boys
Title goes across top
Layout similar to one shown below, without the
multiple images of different bands.
Less of a messy look as well, not upper class, but not
messy
Aesthetically pleasing
General Feedback
“They are colours I would associate with a rock
band”
Idea Three
“I like the focus on alternative as it matches the
acronym”
Nice idea w/ main person in front but bit too simple
Audience range is specific
Mix the ideas together as every idea has some good
elements
7. Idea One: The people I asked liked the audience range, stating that the versatility
of the audience matches the versatility of music covered in the magazine. They
also liked the colours and felt it represented Britain and felt it was an original and
fresh idea, but I was also told it might be a bit too “in your face” and that the
blue and the red might clash. I was also told that the layout shown in the image
looks a little crowded, so I might have to steer clear of using that kind of layout.
Idea Two: I was told the colours are good, with the yellow and the red standing
out against the black and white. I was also told my audience was good, it is a
specific genre so having a specific audience would benefit that. The 3 image idea
received a mixed reception, I was told that if I could pull it off it would look really
good, but that it would take a long time to do effectively.
Idea Three: Again, I was told the audience choice was good, with the colours
reflecting the masculinity of the audience I was aiming for. I was told that the
title I had in mind (BAM!) was a nice idea, and that the placement of the people
would be good although perhaps a little bit too simple. I was informed that Idea
Three may be a little bit too crowded though, and may have too much going on,
and I was told that although the colour scheme was good, there was not much
variety in my ideas and that white, black and red appear in every one.
Overall Feedback Summary
8. I decided that the best idea would be to combine all three
and take the positives from each one. I will create an
alternative rock magazine, as people seemed to like the
magazine title I had came up with to accompany it, and
subsequently use the Red, White and Black colour
scheme.
I will use the three image idea, as although it got a mixed
response based on its difficulty, a challenge is never bad
and if I pulled it off it could look really good.
The acronym idea which I got from the Magazine Q, as
mentioned above, will be used in my final magazine.
I was told my idea 1 looked crowded, so I feel I will run
with a simplified version of that layout, having the
coverlines besides the main coverline going around the
headlining band.
