Evaluation Question 1- In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions conventionsof real media productsMise En Scene- ActorsThe first actors that we are introduced to is Taylor 1 and Lucas. They are apart but we can see the friendlyrelationship they have through the shots used. In the next scene we seem them together and they seem happywhen we are introduced to Taylor 2. Taylor 2 is her dressed up with a brunet wig on and different makeup. Sheplays both the Taylor characters. This has probably been done for her young audience because she didn’t wantthem to make the focus on not liking one character. However these are the three main actors we see in the music video but there is an appearance shortly of a guyon the football team who is talking to Taylor 2. This results in an argument between Taylor 2 and Lucas whichcould be considered a break up. Towards the end of the music video we see Taylor 1 and Lucas together.

Evaluation Question 1- In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions conventionsof real media productsMise En Scene- MakeupTaylor 2 wears quite heavy makeup around her eyes compared to Taylor 1. This makes her seem a bit more villainessbecause it has connotations of being quite dark. During the prom scene she has a lot more makeup on than Taylor 1which makes it seem as if she is not a natural beauty and it makes her seem slightly fake because of the stereotypewith wearing a lot of makeup.Taylor 1 seems to not be wearing any makeup during the beginning of the video. This is so that she is seen as anatural beauty and so that she keeps to the character of being plain and Lucas’ friend. However we see atransformation in the final scene, she is wearing a lot more makeup and she is without her glasses. With thistransformation we feel like we are looking at her like Lucas is for the first time he has noticed her as something morethan a friend.
Evaluation Question 1- In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions conventionsof real media productsMise En Scene- Colour There are three main scenes were we can see a clear view of the colourIn this scene when we see Taylor 1and Lucas close together for thefirst time, there is a slight orangetint throughout this scene. This hasbeen done to maybe enhance thethought of them being happy ifthey where together. In both the football game scene and the scene at prom they bothhave a blue color about them. This could have been done todifferentiate the scenes of Taylor 1 and Lucas together to the scenesat school. For the football scene this cold colour works well becauseof the break up that happens. In the prom scene the blue works wellto makeup Taylor 1 stand out in her white dress and it makes herdifferent from everyone else. Almost highlighting to Lucas that she isthe one even more so.
Evaluation Question 1- In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions conventionsof real media productsMise En Scene- PropsThe main prop used in this music video that is the basis ofthe narrative is the notes. These notes explain the feeling ofthe characters to the viewer and is an effective and anoriginal way of presenting narrative within a music video. These notes help keep the audience interested because theywant to know what happens next. It also ties in with the factthat it feels like a story so you are making the viewer read inorder to understand the emotions of the characters. The books that we see Taylor 1 holding is a way ofshowing her shy personality. The connotations ofsomeone who reads or studies a lot in high school canhave a stigma of a nerd/geek stereotype. This has beendone to make her look like an outcast, invisible and itmakes her a polar opposite from Taylor 2. Having acharacter like these opposing two mean that theiraudience may be able to relate or put themselves inTaylor 1’s position and feel like they understand her.We also see Taylor 1 messing around by singing intoher hairbrush. This also shows some of her characterand her young audience would be able to relate todoing something like this.
Evaluation Question 1- In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions conventionsof real media productsMise En Scene- LightingThe lighting inthis openingscene is clearlyused on eachof Lucas andTaylor 1’sbedrooms inorder tohighlight theirconversationBecause its night time outside in this scene they where able toreflect the light from inside on the window in order to see Taylor1’s face. This is an effective use of lighting because we can’t seeher very clearly. It looks as if she feels that she has disappearedand he cant see what was right in front of him.The lighting in this sceneis natural and it reflectsthe natural chemistrythat is trying to beportrayed when Lucasand Taylor 1 are togetherHere the lighting is quiteharsh but it is done sothat you can see thecharacters reactions ontheir faces even thoughit is dark and at night. Italso highlights Taylor 1when she walks in.
Evaluation Question 1- In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions conventionsof real media productsMise En Scene- CostumeIn the first scene we can see that both these characters have a similar costumes. This is reinforcing the friendship connection we see between themDuring this scene we see Taylor 1 dressing up in multiple outfits that represent different social groups. This has not onlybeen done to entertain the young audience but it has been done to show that she can try to be different people but Lucasdoesn’t see her more than a friend no matter what she does. It can also explain to a young audience that feeling of tryingto find yourself in the years at high school, meaning they can relate to Taylor 1.
Evaluation Question 1- In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions conventionsof real media productsMise En Scene- CostumeIn this scene we can see differences between the two Taylors. Taylor 2 is wearing a skimpy cheer leaders outfit in front of acrowd were as Taylor 1 is covered up in her band costume and is singing from the sidelines. This helps the audience tocontinue to route for Taylor 1In this scene we can again see how casual Taylor 1 is dressed. By having her costume so down dressed it means that whenshe does wear the dress to prom it heightens her change/transformation. Taylor still looks natural with minimal makeupand her hair is down and curly however the main thing that makes her look natural and innocent is the white dress. Thiscolour has connotations of being pure and of a wedding. With the lighting and how people part when she walks in shealso seems like an angel in white. These religious connotations continue with Taylor 2 compared to Taylor 1, she is wearingred which could be seen as the ‘devil’. However the connotations of red are lust and to match that she is showing a lot offlesh because the dress is revealing. This creates a big contrast between the two. As the audience you are picking who isthe better character and so is Lucas.
