    2. Education Subject Centre for Advancing Learning and Teaching ESCalate produces and disseminates resources for staff and students in HE wherever it is delivered: •Education Studies, •Foundation Degrees, •Continuing Education, •Lifelong Learning, •Initial Teacher Education
    3. ESCalate structure • HE Academy Network • Centre in York • 24 Subject Centres • ESCalate based at Graduate School of Education, University of Bristol • Network of academic consultants and associates across the UK • Departmental links and contacts plus ESCalate members and/ or registered colleagues - open to all!
    4. ESCalate website – key source of information: • Resources – including teaching support, reports, research findings, academic papers and evaluations • Online registration • E-submission of funding bids • External Examiner online register • Online event registration • Book reviews, electronic bulletins and newsletters
    5. Recent ESCalate statistics Registered colleagues/ members: 2935 382 active contacts within institutions, with 259 further people offering to be contacts 209 registered External Examiners - with an additional 314 potential External Examiners HoDs: 376 44 registered on the Expertise Exchange with144 searches Website: 5,200 hits a day
    6. ESCalate - across the world Australia, Cambodia, Canada, Dubai, Ethiopia, Finland, France, Holland, Hong Kong India, Jordan, Kuala Lumpur, Nigeria, Pakistan, Portugal, South Africa, Sultanate of Oman, Sweden, Taiwan, Turkey, United States, West Indies …
    7. Thematic awards for 2009 - 10 • Student wellbeing (2 x £10k max) • 21st Century teacher educator (2 x £15k max)
    8. Open awards 2009-10 • Hot Topics – (£50) individual award to promote discussion of an important current issue • Sharing Ideas – (£500) for dissemination of good ideas and interesting practice • Student award – (from £200-£1000) for supporting individual or group learning • Developing pedagogy and practice – (up to £5k) for development activity by individual or group
    9. Hot Topics, Sharing Ideas • Applications can be made throughout the year, depending on available funding • Make an application and we’ll evaluate it as fast as we can • We’ll make a single payment when the work has been completed • We’ll keep everything as simple as possible
    10. Student awards • NB Deadline 18th June 2009! • Find a mentor • Apply on-line • 500 word submission • Costing and financial plan
    11. Additional ESCalate activity includes: • Leading HEA funded Internationalisation project across all centres with Languages SC • Events organisation including Student Conference, Initial Teacher Education Conference, HE in FE Conference • Employability module – online for students and staff • Increasing Subject Centre Collaboration especially re: the Every Child Matters agenda e.g. the ICS-HE project • Work with CETLs and others
    12. The first Annual ESCalate Student Conference •Delegates included •students at all levels •from Undergraduate and •Foundation Degree courses to PhD •Student presenters, including Foundation students •Open Space session allowing all to have a say
    13. Get involved Attend ESCalate linked events Write a book review Discuss ideas for newsletter articles Advertise your department’s news in the e-bulletin Apply for project funding for yourself or with a student Set up a SIG for online discussion …etc.
