2. Album Cover The colour on this album cover is limited
because it only uses black and white. However,
this has an effective and unique style which
immediately draws attention from the audience.
The bold title is extremely striking and has a
powerful and authoritive appearance which
attracts attention. Also the clothing worn is all
black and white, which means that they will
stand out firmly on the block white background.
Furthermore, the high contrast level which has
been used connotes the style of the band and
the genre they are portraying in their music.
This contrast also conveys a sharpness to the
image, which links with the bands name,
‘Razorlight.’ The way they are all standing
connotes authority to the audience. For
example, the man which is crossing his arms,
symbolizes authority to the authority. They have
purposely used a long shot, in order to further
connote their authority and show off their body
language to the audience.
3. Back Cover
This back cover has a difference approach
in comparison to the front cover. The
colour used on this back cover is bright
and vivid red. This colour was probably
chosen because red is the most common
colour when it comes to indie rock music.
This colour is portrayed across magazines
of this genre because it symbolises the
danger and anger of some bands.
Razorlight may have used this colour to
connote their attitude that will be conveyed
throughout the album. This may also give
the audience an insight to the album. The
layout of the magazine is rather simple,
and clear to the audience. It is
stereotypically structured so that the list of
songs runs down the spine of the album
cover; which is extremely common. The
typography used is very big, bold and
clear to read. This is typical for a back
cover because this will draw the audience
into a song that they may have seen.
4. CD This CD has a very simple but very
effective design. This is because the
colours of the CD have been specifically
chosen in order to match those that are
portrayed on the front cover. This
implements repetition and consistency into
the album and connotes to the audience a
sense of organisation and effort which has
been put into the album. Also the whipped
lines which are used link with the band
well. This is because they convey to the
audience that they have been specifically
placed in order to link with the ‘razor’ part
of the bands name. Furthermore, the
typography used on the CD matches what
is used on the front cover. This further
emphasizes the thought of consistency
and repetition.
