2. About SUN MOVEMENT
• VISION- By 2030, a world free from malnutrition in all its forms.
• Established in 2010 to realize a world without hunger and
malnutrition, the SUN Movement Principles of Engagement guide
actors as they work in a multi-sectoral and multi-stakeholder space to
effectively working together to end malnutrition, in all its forms.
• With the governments of SUN Countries in the lead, has the following
networks; civil society; United Nations; donors; businesses; and
researchers' network, all in a collective effort to improve nutrition.
3. About CSO-SUN
• VISION- A Zambia where every mother and child is assured of
sufficient Nutrition.
• CSO-SUN Alliance was established in 2012 as a movement of Civil
Society Organizations (CSOs) working to raise the profile of nutrition
on the national development agenda. CSO-SUN is a highly effective
advocacy platform that works across multiple sectors to end
malnutrition.
• It is a part of the Global Scaling up Nutrition (SUN) movement
founded on the principle that all people have the right to food and
good nutrition.
• Since its establishment, it has convened over 50 members including
grassroot, local CSOs and international NGOs making it one of the
most influential civil society platform working in any arena in Zambia.
4. Notable Achievements
• In 2019, CSO-SUN managed to draw government and donor attention to food
insecure areas such as Gwembe, Lunga etc. through media advocacy.
• In 2019, CSO-SUN fast tracked input support programs which saw government
and agro-dealers resolve their problems and farmers having access to inputs.
• CSO-SUN was part of a joint advocacy group that pushed for the Food and
Nutrition Bill speedy approval.
• Facilitated formation of the All-Party Parliamentary Caucus on Food and Nutrition
(APPCON), a committee of members of parliament whose focus is food and
nutrition.
• Championing budget advocacy which includes budget analysis for nutrition
related budget lines from 2013-to present.
• Increased awareness of politicians and policy makers on importance of investing
in nutrition through parliamentary debates, interaction, messages etc.
• Increased awareness on nutrition, Non-Communicable Diseases and other related
areas to the general public.

6. Regional/Global engagement
• CSO-SUN Country Coordinator is chairs for the East and Southern
Africa Civil Society Network (16 Countries)
• CSO SUN works with the Global Citizens (UK based Org.) in getting
Commitments from Key governments official related to nutrition
• East and Southern Africa Civil Society Network produces the regional
budget analysis reports which countries use to lobby for increased
funding to nutrition.
• CSO SUN participates at high level regional policy dialogue e.g.
transforming Africa’s agriculture, African Leaders for Nutrition etc.
7. Global Engagements
• CSO-SUN Country Coordinator chairs the Global Civil Society Steering Group
(Both SUN Civil Society and ICAN) from 2020 to 2021
• CSO SUN is leading conversations on the principles of engagement, and
CSO engagement strategy for the Nutrition for Growth summit 2020
• CSO SUN participated at the Generation Nutrition event and lobbied for
more investment in nutrition at the EU Parliament. (2019)
• CSO SUN had held bilateral meetings with the Netherlands foreign affairs
department to lobby for more support for food diversification. (2019)
