2. Time Line Manjiro is head of The family at age nine. His father died so he Needs to take care of Family. He is so young And is so important. Is on a boat in the middle of the ocean. There is a huge storm, waves crashing down on Manjiro. He keeps on trying to get to land. Manjiro and his friends got on an island, but have no idea where they are. They try hard to get food, but there is not a lot. They have hope to live. When a boat comes by they wave a flag even though they people could mean danger. On the boat the people/strangers give Manjiro and his friends food, but they have never eaten the food the people gave them. It could have been poisonous.
3. Time Line (continue) Manjiro was on a boat that people caught whales and killed them. It could be dangerous because the whales could jump up and kill someone. Manjiro goes to school in America, a country he has never been in. He doesn’t know anyone and the students might be mean. Manjiro is going back to Japan even though he could get arrested. Japan kills foreigners. He is walking home even though his friends parents died, so his might of and then he would have to walk somewhere to a relative.
4. COURAGEOUS RED Something courageous that Manjiro did was going to school in America. He hasn’t gone to school in his life and needs to start in America not in his home land Japan. He also doesn’t know anyone, so he has no friends yet. Manjiro, at the age of sixteen, had never attended school in his life!
5. Confident Blue Manjiro and his friends were stranded on an island, but he kept positive. In the book it says that, Their shelter was cramped, dank, and dark. But is was better than being exposed…
6. Strong Red On the stranded island there was limited food and water, but they stood strong. These exiled islanders survived by eating seaweed and a sparse supply of shellfish found clinging to rocks. The water they drank was fresh water, but there was not a lot so they could only have a little a day.
7. Special place! I chose this special place because Manjiro was always homesick during his journey. Always thinking of home. This is a picture of a kitchen in and Japanese house with pillows to sit on instead of chairs. Or good food instead of seaweed and raw bird meat.
8. Manjiro’s Medal! Manjiro got this medal because he always had hope during his troubles. Actually all through his life he had hope! Always Have Hope
