9. Ancillary tasks – what are you doing? What real media styles
did you like the most?
After looking at mainly indie/rock and alternative music videos and digipaks by
artists such as Arctic Monkeys and The Kooks, they share a common theme of
depressing and dark stories such as political and social issues, upsetting love
stories and teenage problems such as drugs and alcohol. From digipak Analysis
we gathered that this particular genre use a lot of dark colours and basic design,
we liked this because it relates well with our edgy/alternative target audience. It is
a common convention for an artist of this genre to choose simplistic styles in both
album art and music videos, this creates the effect that they put more emphasis
on their music than they do on themselves compared to mainstream pop artists.
What we liked about looking at arctic monkeys is how they create awareness of
social issues in their music which relates to our chosen idea of a girl suffering with
mental health issues and drugs.
10. Finally – what is your unique selling point? Why is the
audience going to like your artist over others?
One thing the audience is going to like about our artist over others is the fact we’re
trying to stray away from stereotypical A level music video. We’re trying to focus
more on editing and post production. For example, trying to focus on effects in
premiere pro and after effects. We believe this would draw the audience’s
attention to our artist rather than others as it would be more aesthetically pleasing.
Also, it would go against conventional expectations of music videos as they are
mainly performance and ours will be a mixture with performance and narrative
with extra emphasis on the narrative. This would be uniques as many videos don’t
have many visual effects and if they do it is limited to one.
11. Finally – what is your unique selling point? Why is the
audience going to like your artist over others?
● Trying to stray away from stereotypical A level music video
● Focus on post production
● Using adobe after effect/premier pro
● More attention on artist
● More focus on narrative
● Relatability- age
● Issues
● Sympathy-empathy
