The Ethicality Of Game Shows
Despite the controversy created by the game show Twenty–One for being rigged, I believe it is not a matter of ethics but rather a matter of "what you
don't know wont hurt you." It is not unreasonable for networks to want to produce a show that is exciting for its audience. In a world where ratings
mean everything, you have to have a show worth watching, something that keeps people interested. I understand lying is wrong and it was
definitely unfair to the losers of the show but I really don't understand why it was such a big deal. Of course this is because I live in a different time.
My generation of TV is filled with lies, but lies sell! One really good example of this is shows like Long Island Medium, it's clearly fake but there are
tons... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However I believe the line must be drawn somewhere. Game shows are all fun and games, but when it comes to sports, that's a different story. I
believe more so now than in other eras, that sports has a far more massive following than game shows or really any other broadcasts. Sports teams
can often define a person and bring people together, kind of like collective intelligence does for gamers. Sports have been around before TV so it
would be unlikely that cheating would enhance audiences viewing experience because it is something people have always enjoyed and is exciting
all on its own. Of course there has been controversies with players talking performance enhancing drugs which I believe is a form of cheating but
it is different in that, it is not the network, network executives, or even the team that is looked down on, but the player himself. The connection
people have with their teams of choice could arguably be the strongest connection to media for many fans alike. Sports are often the most viewed
broadcasts of all time and not just in America but in other countries as well. Not to say that it isn't possible for sports to be faked but, to find out
they are, would be an outrage that would surpass the Game Show controversy in the 1950's by miles. In conclusion, everything on televisions should
be taken with a grain of salt, not everything you see is real and should never be assumed to be true. The media will do whatever it takes to keep people

The BFI top 100 television programme have four core values which are inspirational, responsive, approachable and provocative. The list also values
other stuff these are the main four points they value the production value, the acting talent, and it is critically acclaimed. In the annual report from 2011

Reality Shows Is A Positive Influence Of Reality Shows
"Let's go the shows almost on" was what my younger cousin said to my brother as they both rushed in to watch PequeГ±os Gigantes a reality TV
game show about kids. Reality TV over the years has garnered a rather negative reputation over the years due to shows like the Jersey Shore
encouraging bad behavior. While there are some reality TV shows are a negative influence, most reality TV shows have a more positive influence on
audiences of various ages.
Many reality TV shows often thought as good or bad for viewers; however, there are many shows that are simply good for sitting down and
watching. A good genre that often is good for just enjoying are game shows. Many Game shows are simply about competing and having fun while
having a chance to win a prize. A well–known game show is Wheel of Fortune. The entire premise behind Wheel of Fortune is luck and skill. While
there is a competitive part to it, it is a bit more pushed back due to the structure of the game. In Wheel of Fortune the contestant uses letters to fill in
the phrase or word while using the wheel to decide if they get money or lose a turn. All of this is done in a way that encourage smart choices while
not ridiculing failures. This a stark contrast compared to the few shows that garner the negative reputation that reality TV is occasionally labeled with.
The shows that are often ridiculed are shows like the Jersey Shore or the Bachelor where unkind behavior is encouraged or, the show focuses on
ridiculing a

The Master Path to Our Destiny in the Hunger Games
In a general apprehension path is defined as the route or course along which something travels or moves. In the concept of human being it involves to
follow our destiny. The concept of path raise much debate mostly about whether our path is deciding by us or someone else. Many christian argue
that their path is already written before they even born, but in my point of view we are the only master of our path because of our power to choose
and decide.
In my point of view our path is deciding by us because we are able to take our own decision. For example when I was much younger I decided by
myself to get involve in sport activity. It only happens because I choose and because I wanted to that let think that obviously I chose my path and the
route that I want to follow. In the "Hunger games" Katniss Everdeen voluntarily takes her younger sister place in the Hunger Game. The fact that the
game's organizer let her volunteer mean to me she chooses her path which was participated in the hunger game. Everything that follow was just the
result of her choice. In that same way the power I have to choose to play sport would have consequence such meet new people, travel to new, and do
thing which will follow with consequences.
Some religious and societal beliefs push us through the idea that our path is not in our hand. They state that we are always influenced by external
cause, and the limitation of our life choice. For example in the Truman Show Truman has a path already

Talk Shows
TALK SHOWS The television talk show is, on the face of it, a rather strange institution. We pay people to talk for us. Like the soap opera, the talk show
is an invention of twentieth century broadcasting. It takes a very old form of communication, conversation, and transforms it into a low cost but highly
popular form of information and entertainment through the institutions, practices and technologies of television.
The talk show did not originate over night, at one time, or in one place. It developed out of forty years of television practice and antecedent talk
traditions from radio, Chatauqua, vaudeville and popular theater. In defining the talk show it is useful to distinguish between "television talk"

Successful talk show hosts like Mike Wallace, Johnny Carson, and Barbara Walters bridge generations of viewers. The longevity of these "super stars"
increases their impact on the forms and formats of television talk with which they are associated.
Television talk shows originally emerged out of two central traditions: news and entertainment. Over time hybrid forms developed that mixed news,
public affairs, and entertainment. These hybrid forms occupy a middle ground position between news and entertainment, though their hosts (Phil
Donahue, Oprah Winfrey, and Geraldo Rivera, for example) often got their training in journalism. Approximately a third of the major talk show hosts
listed at the end of the essay came out of news. The other two thirds came from entertainment (comedy in particular).
Within the journalistic tradition, the names Edward R. Murrow, Mike Wallace, Ted Koppel and Bill Moyers stand out. News talk hosts like
Murrow, Koppel, and Moyers do not have bands, sidekicks, or a studio audience. Their roles as talk show hosts are extensions of their roles as
reporters and news commentators. Their shows appear in evening when more adult and older aged viewers are watching. The morning host teams that
mix "happy talk" and information also generally come from the news background. This format was pioneered by NBC's Sylvester "Pat" Weaver and
host Dave

Ellen Degeneres Accomplishments
Strong. Funny. Inspirational. These are only a few words out of many that describe Ellen DeGeneres. Ellen's early years were turbulent, but she turned
the bad into good with her incredible work ethic. Even through the tough traumatic incident with her inspiration she still prevailed to become the
person we know and love today. She is extremely successful in the work that she does making her the finest in her line of work, and her
accomplishments show that she is an enormous inspiration to anyone of any age. Despite her rough early years, Ellen DeGeneres, has overcome the
odds to inspire her fans daily and has become the most entertaining comedian and talk show host of today.

plays the character Margo Van Meter, a real estate firm secretary in L.A. Ellen finds her place though in another sitcom called, These Friends of Mine.
In this TV show Ellen plays a bookstore employee named Ellen Morgan. Due to the success of the TV show, Ellen earns four "Outstanding Lead
Actress" nominations, a writing Emmy win, and three Golden Globe nods in its five–year run ("Ellen DeGeneres"). On April 14, 1997, Ellen comes
out on the cover of Time making her the first openly gay TV star. Since the news of Ellen being gay was released, a record of 42 million people
listened to Ellen's "comes out" show. Although with her great success, religious groups protested the show. ABC cancelled Ellen in 1998. In 2001,
after the cancellation of her show, Ellen made a new show called, The Ellen Show. Although reviewers praised the show, it did not get a large
audience. After the disappointments, DeGeneres's professional life hit one distinctly positive note, setting the stage for what some have described as
her career's second act. Soon after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, DeGeneres hosted the prime time Emmy Awards; due to the tragedy the
program was twice delayed ("Ellen DeGeneres"). For the next year, Ellen started showing up more and more on TV. She

Achievement of the American Dream of an African American...
The Huxtable family in The Cosby Show represents the overarching achievement of the American dream through an African American family.
According to Marvin Riggs's 1992 documentary Color Adjustment there were two types of images of African Americans in the media. On one hand,
the news showed the social and racial tensions that enveloped the post–civil rights era. On the other hand, primetime television depicted social harmony
among the races–an image that most Americans understood as inaccurate. In the 1980s, most African Americans lived below the poverty line and
primetime television hesitated to present that challenged ideology of the American Dream to the viewing public. Henry Louis Gates Jr. argues, in
Color Adjustment, that the Black urban sitcoms demonstrated both the greatest potential for representing Black life in television's history and also the
greatest failure. Residing comfortably in a Brooklyn brownstone, the Huxtables embodied a nuclear and solid family resolving everyday issues of
urban life, showing that African Americans could move beyond the stereotypical realm of crooks and servants. The world of the Huxtable family
created an aspirational fantasy for minorities groups. The "I'm With The In Crowd" episode succeeds in creating this sense of hope for African
Americans by idealizing the Huxtable family through the use of costume and set design, while perpetuating certain African American stereotypes
through acting methods and the non–diegetic laughter of

A Unified Standard For Classification Of Reality Tv...
Nowadays, reality TV programmes appear on the television screen with varied types and mixed styles. It is difficult to find out a unified standard for
classification of reality TV programmes' types. In western countries, the most frequently mentioned types of reality TV programme by different
scholars are infotainment, docu–soap, lifestyle, reality gameshows, talent competitions, relationship reality TV shows, etc. According to these different
classifications and from differences of diverse shows' content and formats, reality TV can be divided into following eight types: Outdoors

The use of Radio as a Sound Device in Friday Night Lights
"The use of Radio as a Sound Device in Friday Night Lights" One of the most widely noted sound elements of the football film, Friday Night Lights,
amongst fans and critics is its frequent use of the Texas–based band, Explosions in the Sky. But I believe there is a more interesting sound element that
is just as prominent in the overall soundscape of the film, and that is the use of radio in the film. Radio takes on the form of two identities in this film:
a radio talk show as well as live game commentary. Because it is eventually revealed to the audience that both the live game commentator and radio
talk show host are the same person, and that both are broadcast as radio content, it is acceptable to group these two factors into the ... Show more

I only mention my specific experience because I do not wish to make a broad generalization.
First I would like to identify who the film includes on its radio broadcasts. There are essentially two types of people featured on the broadcast: the
radio talk show host and his co–commentator and his callers. The first use of radio in the film is that of a radio talk show, hosted by "Slam and
Sammy," that focuses primarily on the Permian Panthers' football team. Also featured on the show are callers that are most likely from the local
community surrounding the support of the Panthers. It is not made clear until halfway through the film at the start of a football game that Slam and
Sammy are also the commentators for the football games and that the games are broadcast, most likely on the same radio station. We are made aware
of this fact around fifty minutes into the film when we hear, "You're back with mojo radio. It is Slam and Sammy." In trying to detect the difference
between the announcers, the voice we hear the most seems to be the main host, while the other voice (it is slightly unclear who is Slam and who is
Sammy) seems to be more of a color commentator that allows the lead announcer to do most of the talking.
Also, it is worth noting that the radio announcers do not become visually actualized in the film apart from very brief moments viewing them in the
press box at the games. Otherwise the audience

Informative Essay: The Most Popular Video Game Shows In...
Today's game shows have come a long way in the past centuries. They have become more and more popular and entertaining. Some like, "The Price
is Right" when it first started in 1956 and has been on since 1972 after being revamped. The show is watched by millions every day and you spin a
giant wheel at the end to get into the showcase showdown where you have a chance to win a boat, car, or vacation. After watching the movie
Idiocracy, I was deeply reminded of how dumb down game shows have become. As Luke Wilson played by Joe Bauers, came crashing into Fritos

Like, "Hole in the Wall" shown in 2008 by the FOX network. Originally a Japanese TV show where you have to fit the shape of the wall coming
towards you. If you do not fit through the wall and complete the challenge, you are pushed into the water and lose. Another popular TV program in
America is a show called "Wipeout". This show plays a small roll in inflicting pain onto the contestants while the commentators say humorous things
and mock or insult the contestants as they get smacked in the face or bent upside–down and backward into the water. As funny as the show is, the
player with the fastest time in the course is declared the "champion" and wins $50,000 dollars. Fear Factor is another attempt to humiliate people
into doing things they normally would never do, all contestants are pit against each other for prize money of about $50,000 dollars. The catch is
doing stuff you would never do in real life because of the "fear" side of things. Eating bugs to bobbing for hidden rings in cows blood. The show
will make you cringe in disgust. So, do I think the movie Idiocracy is becoming an American Documentary? Well, when other peoples pain is
involved and humiliation to entertain me as I am taking a crap on my new TV Toilet. Then yes, I would say we have become an idiocy civilization. I
do not see our civilization ever stopping to laugh at other peoples misfortunes. As long as there is a cash prize and the ratings are through the roof,

Producers try to cast people with large personalities as this creates the most drama and they are interesting to watch. In Canada, it appears that they are

Does Ignorance Equal Bliss?
Does Ignorance Equal Bliss?
In my opinion, Ignorance isn't Bliss because it does not make people happy .There's nothing good about living a life where you are ignorant to the
things around you. People are living empty lives and they don't even know the purpose of it. Ignorant people don't know the world around them, they
don't know what makes them happy or sad, they don't know and don't care about it. Ignorance is not a key to happiness and it can never be blissful,
which is shown in The Matrix, F451, The Truman Show.
At first, In the movie the Matrix, Neo was living a normal life and didn't know that this world is a program generated by the machines to keep
people in control. This virtual world is called The Matrix. Neo could keep living in the virtual world made by machines, but instead, he chose to find

decided to take the red pill instead of the blue pill that Morpheus offered to him, he wanted to accept the truth and get the knowledge of what's
happening around the world. When Morpheus showed him the truth and the reality, at first he couldn't believe that it's the truth, he thought that it

Narrative Essay On Basketball Injury
I had always assumed that my legs were strong and that I had decent muscle control, however, this thought was proven wrong at the beginning of my
junior year in high school due to a detrimental injury. It was the first game of fall league for basketball, and within the first five minutes I had
succumbed to an injury. Tearing my ACL and Meniscus has taught me to continue improving on my strength, not let this one injury keep me down, and
to keep a positive mindset.
Believing that my knee was strong and that it had a great deal of muscle control, I did not think to continuously strengthen it. I relied on the strength
my knee had, which inevitably, turned out to be a massive mistake. By tearing the ligament that held my knee together, I was not able to walk on my
own for at least two months, I missed out on many events my junior year that kept me busy and made me happy. Some of the events I missed out on
were playing in basketball games, doing color guard at football games, competing at state for marching band, and competing at show choir
competitions. Tearing my ACL and Meniscus not only taught me to not rely on my morals, but it also taught me to not let this setback keep me down.
It is easily said that my junior year of high school was my least favorite year due to my injury. While I watched my friends compete and my
teammates play, I was seriously debating about whether or not to return back to basketball, show choir, and color guard. Ithought that I would not be

Television: A Vast Wasteland Essay
The Cosby Show was the pinnacle of American television. Based on an affluent African–American family in Brooklyn, New York, The Cosby Show

Alongside Rashad was Bill Cosby as Cliff Huxtable, an eccentric and whimsical obstetrician. Together, Clair and Cliff reared five children in the
midst of several complex obstacles. When faced with Sondra's decision not to go to law school, Denise's decision to discontinue her education, Theo's

On these shows, participants are thrown in volatile situations and are expected to compete with each for a monetary prize (Delisle 43). There may be
several reality show genres but they tend to follow the same formula: The shows seek extremes–contestants courting seeming danger, hostile to

Though these reality shows are entertaining, they give viewers a false sense of reality. Reality shows portray competition as the sole way to achieve
success. After viewing this mercenary behavior on a daily basis, viewers will inevitably develop an unhealthy need to succeed in all that they do.
Since reality shows progressively eliminate the losers and glorify the winner(s), viewers will begin to base their self–worth on winning. In addition to
praising winners, reality shows also fail to demonstrate the importance of working hard without a monetary reward. By failing to acknowledge the

Popular Game Show In The 1930's
In the 1920s, radio was king of the new entertainment world, but by the 1930s television became the new ruler. The invention of television brought a
whole new type of culture into the United States and beyond. Television had redefined leisure, bringing what once were typically radio shows to new
life. In the late 1940s, news stations such as NBC and CBS sought to turn over their programs to be part of the largely profitable new medium. As
popularity quickly rose, where in six years the number of television sets in the US jumped from a mere 6,000 to a staggering 12 million by 1951, the
networks attempted to keep up by offering new material. Here enters the ever popular game show.
The first game show in the US was called The $64,000 Question

Persuasive Essay On The Tonight Show
Review: The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon
There are a lot of different shows on television today. If you are a fan of late night television like I am, you have a wide variety of shows to choose
from. There is one show that has gone to the front of the pack in late night entertainment; The Tonight Show withJimmy Fallon. Although The Tonight
Show has been popular for many years, the addition of Jimmy Fallon in February of 2014 has brought the show to a new level. None of the late
night competitors are as well rounded or appeal to such a broad audience. After a number of years viewing and comparing various shows, there is no
doubt that The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon is the best show in late night television. Jimmy Fallon began his career as a comedian before
becoming a regular cast member on Saturday Night Live in 1998 (Biography par. 4). After leaving the show in 2004, he appeared in several movies
before entering into the late night lineup in 2009 with his show, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (par. 6–7). In February of 2014 he replaced Jay Leno as
the host of The Tonight Show (par. 9). Jimmy Fallon had big shoes to fill since he was following great entertainers like Johnny Carson and Jay Leno.

A lot of his experience comes from being on Saturday Night Live. He has been doing stand–up comedy for many years. He knows how to keep his
audience laughing from the moment he enters the studio until he signs off for the night. His humor is not just funny jokes. It also includes a nightly
monolog that pokes fun at public figures and current events. In addition, he always has a new game or segment that is unique and funny. He often has
unscripted exchanges with his announcer, Higgins. It's difficult to keep a straight face while watching this show. If laughing is the best medicine, I

Who Is Oprah Winfrey's Formula For Success?
Oprah Winfrey's mass influence in worldwide culture is simply undeniable. Her success is legendary, and her shows, books and productions are
household names across the world. With all of these accomplishments you would think that she's got a pretty good handle on the formula for success.
She was quoted saying, "Luck is a matter of preparation meeting opportunity." On the surface this may seem like a good equation for success, however
after dissecting it, I have found some problems with its validity so far as life experience has taught me. Luck tends to be a mystical topic. The very
nature of luck is unpredictable. Some people have it in certain situations, and others don't. So far as I have seen in my life 'luck' is pretty blind in who
it chooses. So it would seem to me that creating a formula such as: "preparation+opportunity=luck", isn't the whole story. When Oprah mentions luck in
this quote, it seems as if she is really attempting to describe a formula for success. In my opinion she greatly over–simplifies the process of becoming
successful. There are many factors involved in success, not just two, and from my experience luck simply isn't one of them. However, I don't think she
was completely wrong in stating the importance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Preparation is key for any endeavor. Without proper preparation, being given opportunities doesn't really matter. Likewise, without opportunities,
preparation is simply just busywork. I can think of many times where I have had great ideas and a plan, but no matter how hard I tried, no
opportunities presented themselves to me. So I was stuck with a lot of preparation but no opportunity. There have also been times, where an
opportunity came about but I wasn't prepared to handle it, so I missed out on something that could have otherwise been very beneficial. Preparation
and opportunity are very critical to success, however I think there is one factor that Oprah is

Different Types Of Economics Within The Game Show Industry
The business that I have chosen for this project is TV Game Shows. Over the next few pages, I will show different types of economics within the game
show industry.
Cash prizes are paid by the show, and the money comes from the producers, who are paid by the advertisers/network. There can be a couple of
"safeguards" that make this a little easier for the shows:
– They can have an insurance policy to protect them from huge losses. For example, the insurance company says, we 've studied the odds of your
game, and we 'll sell you a policy for $200,000 up front, that pays out full prize money any time someone wins $100,000 or more during this season
of the show. Obviously this is all about a smart insurance company who has studied the gameplay and sorted out the odds of how many players will
win big, but the point is that the show doesn 't have to worry about it. They can let the insurance company work it out, and the show then has a nice
fixed–cost expense they can reliably drop into their production budget and not think about it.
– For really big prizes ($1,000,000), shows may pay similar to a lottery, where the money is in a fund that pays over x amount of years, or the winner
can take a reduced lump sum immediately. For example, if you were to win $1 million on a show, they might tell you (after the show is done taping)
"okay! We can give you $50,000 a year for the next 20 years, or we can pay you $450,000 lump–sum right now and that 's all you get."
And of course,

A Feminist Perspective : Grand Theft Auto V
Grand Theft Auto Feminist Perspective
When dealing with a feminist perspective there are many elements that deal with this technique. One of the topics I will be talking about that deal with
this is Grand Theft Auto V published by Rockstar Games. Grand Theft Auto V displays women in various types of situations in which they are
presented as sex figures and are not respected by male characters in the game. Using this game, I will use the critique method by analyzing hegemony
and its principles. Specifically talking about gender stereotypes, masculinity, and heteronormativity. The game advertises sexist oppression through the
restricted decisions it gives players, overly sexualizes female characters, how this effects men who play this and how they treat women. and other
content that involves advertising and talk shows that demonstrate women as sexual objects.
Grand Theft Auto V is an action–adventure video game. It was released on September 2013 for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and then later
available in 2014 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game is set within the fictional state of San Andreas, which is taken of the concept of Southern
California. The game is also a single–player story which tells a story between three criminals who commit heists against a government agency. The
open world in the game is to let playsers travel around San Adreas' countryside and the city of Los Santos which is based off Los Angeles. When

Charles' life was the recognition from people that he longed to have. Despite his achievements in the past, he was only known to be the son of Mark
Van Doren––who is very famous during the time, and not as somebody who achieved something by himself. Joining the show was a great opportunity

How Does Writing Change Over Time
Writing has changed a lot over the years. The hot topics fade and new ones replace them. From early America to 1870 there was not many changes in
the topics because there was not as many people as there are now. There was only three considerable changes to writing styles and topics. The writing
styles and topics over the years have changed from myths, to God, and finally to individualism. Writing started off as myths. There are four functions of
a myth. The myth must include all of creation, day to day function of the world, support customs/rituals, and how to deal with trials and tribulations.
An example of a myth is The World On The Turtle's Back. That myth was written by the Iroquois and was about how the world was created. Their
myths were generally communicated orally. The myth talked about a heaven where the gods lived. One became curious and fell into the underworld.

This was in play when the Puritans came over and settled in America. They tried to be godly and always do the correct thing. An example of this
type of writing is The Crucible. The Crucible is a play written about a true event. These godly people did not like witches. They thought that witches
were possessed by the devil so they killed them. They thought they were doing the right thing, but some people took advantage of it. Those girls were
ungodly, but everyone thought they were godly. The Puritans thought that children were innocent (they never lied). That is not the case and these
ungodly children took advantage and twisted these people's minds. Some people were godly and did the right thing but most people were not, even
though that is what they thought they were doing. Those people thought that they were ridding Salem of the devil and allowing God back in but what
they were really doing was pushing God out and opening the door for the devil. When the Puritans arrived in America, they changed the style and topic

MARKET ANALYSIS
Prime objective of producing this show successfully is to stay fully aware of the marketing trends and the regular information about the industry and its
history. It is pivotal to understand and analyze the industrial impact in the particular industry as the show is related to entertainment industry. Around
20 different game shows were analyzed to determine the fate of ours, as the above–mentioned game shows were similar in sketch. Two of popular
programs were SPRITE FUNDA and LIVING ON THE EDGE, these shows have successfully targeted the youth but they somewhat failed to capitalize
the market in the growth terms. We believe that our execution would go as planned and we can successfully fill the vacuum in the industry.
TARGET MARKET:
QUICKWITT will be targeting the youth industry by focusing on colleges and universities in the initial time periods. The age would fall between 16
and 28 years old. In our initial stage we would be targeting the youth from Lahore, the data collected by our team suggests that we would have to
shuffle between 28,000 individuals. However, we would be setting up arrangements for 3 to 400 students as audience from the participating institution.
The target market of Lahore is flexible and elastic, as it comprises the majority of youth population of the country.

The Appeal of Television Chat Shows Essay
The Appeal of Television Chat Shows
Chat shows are a very popular and successful modern day television program. Why? It is probably because as humans we are naturally nosey and
curious about the lifestyles of others, especially those of the rich and famous. It is this common characteristic that makes the neighbors peep through
the curtains to see what the Jones' are up to next, the reason that village gossip spreads so quickly and the cause of the growing number of reality
television programs. Whether we admit or not, many have a fascination with those in the public eye. We want to know about their secret to success, the

Some are run in the more conventional way of just the basic interview for example Parkinson, but others are shown in a more entertaining approach,
for example The Kumars at No. 42 and this is due to their target audience. The target audience is who the programme is aimed at and huge factor
when considering the target audience is a scheduling time. For example Graham Norton is on weekdays at 10 o'clock and this is a great
scheduling time for his audience. It is a good time after the 9 o'clock watershed as Graham Norton attracts a young adult audience due to his adult
humour and the guests he has on his show whereas Parkinson is on Saturday evening at around 10.30. This programme is probably aimed more
towards older adults, as his style of interviewing is very traditional. Older adults are more likely to be in at this time and will want to watch
something before they go to bed whereas a younger audience will watch more television on weekdays, as they will have work the next day.
Parkinson is a very popular chat show and has been running for many years.
As Parkinson has been in show business for many years, he is now a celebrity himself and has made his fame through interviewing other famous
people. We can tell this from the shows

Butterfly Circus Essay
Recently I watched the short film Butterfly Circus by Joshua Weigel and I was very pleased. Prior to watching the movie, only having read the title I
immediately thought this was going to be a cartoon for a young child. As I watched the first scene I shortly realized this was not the case. Weigel
introduces a familiar face Nick Vujicic, The Limbless man, a main character in this short film. The film is about the famous showman going to a small
circus sideshow and finding the "magnificent" limbless man in a time of anguish while being bullied by the audience and other members of the "freak
show". After the limbless man's encounter with the showman he is forced to gain hope against anything negative he has ever believed.
This movie opens with the setting in the depression era. A fleet of old cars traveling down a dirt road passing families as they watch the car
caravan with sorrowful eyes. Inside the fleet of old cars is the company of the renowned Butterfly Circus on their way to the next town to lift the
spirits of their audiences. As they pass a sign for a carnival sideshow, the little boy asks the driver if they can go. The driver answers reluctantly so
the little boy ask Mr. Mendez, the famous showman, and he says, "why not". Among the carousel, the fortune teller, and the games they find the show
that everyone has come to see. There sits a small tent that is known as "the best freak show in town". In this company of "freaks" there is the Bearded

Hunger Games meets Reality
Telling a story that is set in the future gives authors the chance to depict present day issues in a different light. They usually choose to exaggerate
them so readers can see how their society might look in the future, especially if they ignore issues that can grow and become problems. In the case of
The Hunger Games (HG), the author, Suzanne Collins, explores issues like the huge inequality of wealth and how the power of television can
influence our lives. She does this by portraying the HG as an extreme reality game show where teenagers fight to the death. By highlighting some
important connections between our worlds, the author shows us that we may be headed to a place very similar to HG universe. These connections are
about how tensions are created by the inequality between rich and poor on television, how an external force like the audience drives ratings higher,
and how producers do not care about the message they are sending, as long as the audience watches the show.
Both reality TV game shows and the HG bring people from different socio–economic backgrounds together to intensify tensions. In shows such as "The
House that roared," the producers "cast for conflict to force drama" in reality TV game shows. This friction is usually artificially created because
people in the real world might attempt to get along in some way. In shows such as Big Brother, participants are forced to live together, creating tensions
that are not proportional to the real world. This

Game Shows and the American Dream
The American Dream, while well known by American–born residents and international students and/or immigrants alike, has become harder and harder
to define as decades pass. In spite of becoming more ambiguous, the American Dream is still an accessible fantasy to both American citizens and those
who want to become citizens. It is a major reason why international students choose to pursue education and careers in America, and why families
choose to start new lives here. Nowadays, televised media, specifically reality television and game shows, are some of the most influential factors in
shaping how the American dream is perceived; they shift Americans' ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

equation of wealth to happiness and satisfaction, as well as the illusion of equal opportunity. Analyzing The Great Gatsby is useful in clarifying
essential traits of the American Dream, which we can later use in our evaluation contemporary articulations of it. The novel is aboutJay Gatsby, a man
who has risen to wealth and is well–known for his extravagant parties. Though the novel, published in 1925, took place before modern media and
advertising, it still depicts characters that have fallen for what Diane Kendall, in "Framing Class, Vicarious Living, and Conspicuous Consumption,"
calls a "socially constructed reality that is not necessarily an accurate reflection of the United States." The "socially constructed reality" in which the
cast of The Great Gatsby lives–geographically, New York in the 1920's–is characterized by an obsession with wealth and success despite an immense
poverty gap that was steadily widening. Though often referred to as the "gilded age" in American history, the 20's

Why Do Tv Shows Movies And Video Games Show Too Much Violence
The reason as to why I am writing this composition is to inform you and notify you about TV shows, movies and video games and justify to you this
question," is it (TV shows, movies and video games) promoting and showing too much violence". Firstly, to make everything I will say logical and
understandable, I will break it down into segments and divisions. Inshallah, what I hope to achieve from this composition is for you to understand just
what you and your family are receiving from these three categories of entertainment. I shall begin with the TV shows and the movies (since the movies
points are really similar to the TV shows, I will combine the two) by talking a little bit about them and then moving on to answering the part of the
question that goes with them.
It is a shocking reality that everyone you see today knows what a TV is, whether they come from the most destitute society there is or from the most
prosperous of them. They all know what a TV is. The term TV is the short form used for the wordtelevision, and it is an electronics device that receives
a visual and audible signal and plays it to the viewer, and a show is a spectacle or display of something, typically an impressive one. As for the
movie, well it is scarcely different for it is a story or an event recorded by a camera as a set of moving images and shown in a theatre or on television;
a motion picture. Now back to the question mentioned near the beginning. For clarification, this question does not have

Thinking Outside The Box Analysis
In the last 20 years technology took an important role in our lives and more in the lives of our kids, even in on grownups. Video are an important
tool in our lives that if we use it in a right way could help us to improve our intelligence. Base on the articles of "Watching TV Makes You Smarter"
by Steven Johnson and "Thinking Outside the Box" by Dana Stevens. I will present my point of view. In the article by Johnson "Watching TV
Makes You Smarter", he describes how much tv improved from the '70s. In today's tv we need to be able to pay attention to multiple details on the
show, since the narrative is more complicated and realistic to our everyday life. Johnson writes "They have gained in realism. The real world doesn't
come in nicely packaged...and we are better off with entertainment like the Sopranos that reflects our fallen state with all its ethical ambiguity". Life
is complicated and ambiguous and from that point of view we can get smarter or learn that there is a different behavior in our world. For example, we

Similarities Between The Hunger Games And The Truman Show
To begin this brief explanation of contrast between these pieces of literature/media I need to begin with the main connection between the two. The
greatest main theme both of these pieces hold is that of control over people, knowledge, and the media. The main premise of both indicates this for
instance Hunger Games is about how a collective government controls the people through fear and the media and enforces this by creating a gladiator
battle between the districts for all to watch. In the Truman Show we have the same collective force controlling our main characters world but in the
form of a reality tv show director. In both pieces as the entire situation unfolds it is used as entertainment for the masses. The large similarities between

First we start with Truman while not being the most interesting person overall the situation he's placed in makes him a perfect character to dissect
and discuss. The main trait show is his drive to become an adventurer to travel past the confines of the world he's trapped inside. I completely agree
with his view on his fake world even though it is much safer and ideally perfect I feel as though the freedom of choice of what happens around you
outweighs any feeling of security such a place could provide. This is proven by how he reacts after realizing his world is fake after this event his
main goal becomes escaping his fake reality. Last we take a look at Katniss from the Hunger Games her main traits I find are a little cliche for the
genre of book she resides in ,but nonetheless she has traits to identify. The largest trait portrayed throughout the book is that of tenacity and
unrelenting mettle. This is shown time and time again through the book for example she first shows this tenacity when its explained how in the past
after her mother became catatonic after her father's death she had to assume the role of caregiver and even through all the adversity she faced she
persevered. The drive of hers is best shown in the games as her will to live and bring home prosperity to her family and district allows her never fall
into the state of despair and continue on no matter how gruesome the games became. With me

media to grow and capture new audiences. A recent article, "Chris Hardwick, King of the Nerds Is Expanding His Empire" by Lorne Manly in the
New York Times features a profile of entertainer Chris Hardwick, who is described as the "model of an entertainment brand for a multiscreen
generation" (Manly, par. 5). As a fan of both Chris Hardwick and of geek culture, I found this article to be a fascinating profile of how savvy use of
media can allow performers to reach a much wider audience than television alone.
Manly's profile article discusses how Hardwick has transitioned from a television personality to a celebrity across multiple forms of media, while
continuing to expand into new television ventures. Chris Hardwick went from an obscure MTV game show host and stand–up comedian to a likeable
and trusted face of geek culture. He achieves this appeal by keeping true to his roots and interests and adapting to new forms of communication to boost
his popularity. After several failed attempts at acting, Hardwick decided to pursue his interest in technology, science fiction, television, comic books
and video games through blogging and podcasting, and found that fans related to his likeable approach and genuine enthusiasm for all things nerdy.
Hardwick, like his fan base, is very Internet savvy and literate in online culture, and he

Sociological Analysis Of The Regular Show By Jg Quintel
The Regular Show is an American surreal/paranormal comedic cartoon created by JG Quintel. It follows the lives of seven employees who work at a
local Public Park simply known as "Park" (titled as a proper noun) in an unnamed part of the United States of America. Together, they maintain and
manage the park as a public local attraction. In doing so, seemingly normal days somehow always end up with a Twilight Zone–esque paranormal
twist, with bits of surreal and situational humor overlaying it to keep it kid–friendly. The show itself is very simple in its premise, though like any
television series, it has undertones of basic sociological concepts and dynamics. The seven main characters all contrast very differently in their
personalities, while all still sharing similar morals and beliefs, as well as having similar interests and goals. As such, these characters create a perfect

Late Night Show Satire
Just a few years ago, late night shows were a way for celebrities to promote their new movie, TV series, or music. The host would just conduct
light–hearted interviews and harmless, interactive games. Jimmy Kimmel has had guests read hate tweets; James Corden has sang karaoke while
driving guest stars; Jimmy Fallon has competed in lip sync battles against guests; SNL has invited guests to temporarily replace Pandora. Now, instead
of simple comedy, some hosts are injecting political commentary in their news updates and monologues. Over the last year, late night television ratings
have shifted. Fiery shows like "Full Frontal with Samantha Bee" and "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" have seen an influx of viewers; whereas
the apolitical "Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon" has begun to decline. TV preferences, show content, and social dynamics have transitioned to be

The Ethicality Of Game Shows

  • 1. The Ethicality Of Game Shows Despite the controversy created by the game show Twenty–One for being rigged, I believe it is not a matter of ethics but rather a matter of "what you don't know wont hurt you." It is not unreasonable for networks to want to produce a show that is exciting for its audience. In a world where ratings mean everything, you have to have a show worth watching, something that keeps people interested. I understand lying is wrong and it was definitely unfair to the losers of the show but I really don't understand why it was such a big deal. Of course this is because I live in a different time. My generation of TV is filled with lies, but lies sell! One really good example of this is shows like Long Island Medium, it's clearly fake but there are tons... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However I believe the line must be drawn somewhere. Game shows are all fun and games, but when it comes to sports, that's a different story. I believe more so now than in other eras, that sports has a far more massive following than game shows or really any other broadcasts. Sports teams can often define a person and bring people together, kind of like collective intelligence does for gamers. Sports have been around before TV so it would be unlikely that cheating would enhance audiences viewing experience because it is something people have always enjoyed and is exciting all on its own. Of course there has been controversies with players talking performance enhancing drugs which I believe is a form of cheating but it is different in that, it is not the network, network executives, or even the team that is looked down on, but the player himself. The connection people have with their teams of choice could arguably be the strongest connection to media for many fans alike. Sports are often the most viewed broadcasts of all time and not just in America but in other countries as well. Not to say that it isn't possible for sports to be faked but, to find out they are, would be an outrage that would surpass the Game Show controversy in the 1950's by miles. In conclusion, everything on televisions should be taken with a grain of salt, not everything you see is real and should never be assumed to be true. The media will do whatever it takes to keep people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The As An Organisation And The Bfi Top 100 Tv Programmes... 1a) The BFI as an organisation and the BFI Top 100 TV Programmes. What are the BFI's core values and mission? How are these reflected in the TV 100 canon? What might this suggest about the ways in which television is valued more widely? The BFI top 100 television programme have four core values which are inspirational, responsive, approachable and provocative. The list also values other stuff these are the main four points they value the production value, the acting talent, and it is critically acclaimed. In the annual report from 2011 it states each one of the values and what it means of that value for inspirational it says, "We aim to inspire and motivate people, to have a direct effect on stimulating them to take action, whether they are audience members or filmmakers, to seek out and understand more of film culture, to be inspired to contribute to our film culture both through dialogue and the production of a wide variety of new work." The value of inspirational is that the show should inspire the audiences of the world of film and the film jobs. This is shown in on the show on the BFi which is Doctor Who (BBC, 1963–present). For the value responsive it states about it; "We aim to be quick to react to and understand the changing nature of film culture and the changing needs of our audiences and filmmakers, embracing these changes in new ways of working in a fast changing media world, ensuring that we stay at the international leading edge of thinking about film culture, ... • 3. Reality Shows Is A Positive Influence Of Reality Shows "Let's go the shows almost on" was what my younger cousin said to my brother as they both rushed in to watch PequeГ±os Gigantes a reality TV game show about kids. Reality TV over the years has garnered a rather negative reputation over the years due to shows like the Jersey Shore encouraging bad behavior. While there are some reality TV shows are a negative influence, most reality TV shows have a more positive influence on audiences of various ages. Many reality TV shows often thought as good or bad for viewers; however, there are many shows that are simply good for sitting down and watching. A good genre that often is good for just enjoying are game shows. Many Game shows are simply about competing and having fun while having a chance to win a prize. A well–known game show is Wheel of Fortune. The entire premise behind Wheel of Fortune is luck and skill. While there is a competitive part to it, it is a bit more pushed back due to the structure of the game. In Wheel of Fortune the contestant uses letters to fill in the phrase or word while using the wheel to decide if they get money or lose a turn. All of this is done in a way that encourage smart choices while not ridiculing failures. This a stark contrast compared to the few shows that garner the negative reputation that reality TV is occasionally labeled with. The shows that are often ridiculed are shows like the Jersey Shore or the Bachelor where unkind behavior is encouraged or, the show focuses on ridiculing a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Master Path to Our Destiny in the Hunger Games In a general apprehension path is defined as the route or course along which something travels or moves. In the concept of human being it involves to follow our destiny. The concept of path raise much debate mostly about whether our path is deciding by us or someone else. Many christian argue that their path is already written before they even born, but in my point of view we are the only master of our path because of our power to choose and decide. In my point of view our path is deciding by us because we are able to take our own decision. For example when I was much younger I decided by myself to get involve in sport activity. It only happens because I choose and because I wanted to that let think that obviously I chose my path and the route that I want to follow. In the "Hunger games" Katniss Everdeen voluntarily takes her younger sister place in the Hunger Game. The fact that the game's organizer let her volunteer mean to me she chooses her path which was participated in the hunger game. Everything that follow was just the result of her choice. In that same way the power I have to choose to play sport would have consequence such meet new people, travel to new, and do thing which will follow with consequences. Some religious and societal beliefs push us through the idea that our path is not in our hand. They state that we are always influenced by external cause, and the limitation of our life choice. For example in the Truman Show Truman has a path already ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Talk Shows TALK SHOWS The television talk show is, on the face of it, a rather strange institution. We pay people to talk for us. Like the soap opera, the talk show is an invention of twentieth century broadcasting. It takes a very old form of communication, conversation, and transforms it into a low cost but highly popular form of information and entertainment through the institutions, practices and technologies of television. The talk show did not originate over night, at one time, or in one place. It developed out of forty years of television practice and antecedent talk traditions from radio, Chatauqua, vaudeville and popular theater. In defining the talk show it is useful to distinguish between "television talk" (unscripted presentational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Successful talk show hosts like Mike Wallace, Johnny Carson, and Barbara Walters bridge generations of viewers. The longevity of these "super stars" increases their impact on the forms and formats of television talk with which they are associated. Television talk shows originally emerged out of two central traditions: news and entertainment. Over time hybrid forms developed that mixed news, public affairs, and entertainment. These hybrid forms occupy a middle ground position between news and entertainment, though their hosts (Phil Donahue, Oprah Winfrey, and Geraldo Rivera, for example) often got their training in journalism. Approximately a third of the major talk show hosts listed at the end of the essay came out of news. The other two thirds came from entertainment (comedy in particular). Within the journalistic tradition, the names Edward R. Murrow, Mike Wallace, Ted Koppel and Bill Moyers stand out. News talk hosts like Murrow, Koppel, and Moyers do not have bands, sidekicks, or a studio audience. Their roles as talk show hosts are extensions of their roles as reporters and news commentators. Their shows appear in evening when more adult and older aged viewers are watching. The morning host teams that mix "happy talk" and information also generally come from the news background. This format was pioneered by NBC's Sylvester "Pat" Weaver and host Dave ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Ellen Degeneres Accomplishments Strong. Funny. Inspirational. These are only a few words out of many that describe Ellen DeGeneres. Ellen's early years were turbulent, but she turned the bad into good with her incredible work ethic. Even through the tough traumatic incident with her inspiration she still prevailed to become the person we know and love today. She is extremely successful in the work that she does making her the finest in her line of work, and her accomplishments show that she is an enormous inspiration to anyone of any age. Despite her rough early years, Ellen DeGeneres, has overcome the odds to inspire her fans daily and has become the most entertaining comedian and talk show host of today. Ellen's inspirations helped her in being the first female on the tonight show with Johnny Carson. Ellen's first TV show was the Open House. She plays the character Margo Van Meter, a real estate firm secretary in L.A. Ellen finds her place though in another sitcom called, These Friends of Mine. In this TV show Ellen plays a bookstore employee named Ellen Morgan. Due to the success of the TV show, Ellen earns four "Outstanding Lead Actress" nominations, a writing Emmy win, and three Golden Globe nods in its five–year run ("Ellen DeGeneres"). On April 14, 1997, Ellen comes out on the cover of Time making her the first openly gay TV star. Since the news of Ellen being gay was released, a record of 42 million people listened to Ellen's "comes out" show. Although with her great success, religious groups protested the show. ABC cancelled Ellen in 1998. In 2001, after the cancellation of her show, Ellen made a new show called, The Ellen Show. Although reviewers praised the show, it did not get a large audience. After the disappointments, DeGeneres's professional life hit one distinctly positive note, setting the stage for what some have described as her career's second act. Soon after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, DeGeneres hosted the prime time Emmy Awards; due to the tragedy the program was twice delayed ("Ellen DeGeneres"). • 7. Achievement of the American Dream of an African American... The Huxtable family in The Cosby Show represents the overarching achievement of the American dream through an African American family. According to Marvin Riggs's 1992 documentary Color Adjustment there were two types of images of African Americans in the media. On one hand, the news showed the social and racial tensions that enveloped the post–civil rights era. On the other hand, primetime television depicted social harmony among the races–an image that most Americans understood as inaccurate. In the 1980s, most African Americans lived below the poverty line and primetime television hesitated to present that challenged ideology of the American Dream to the viewing public. Henry Louis Gates Jr. argues, in Color Adjustment, that the Black urban sitcoms demonstrated both the greatest potential for representing Black life in television's history and also the greatest failure. Residing comfortably in a Brooklyn brownstone, the Huxtables embodied a nuclear and solid family resolving everyday issues of urban life, showing that African Americans could move beyond the stereotypical realm of crooks and servants. The world of the Huxtable family created an aspirational fantasy for minorities groups. The "I'm With The In Crowd" episode succeeds in creating this sense of hope for African Americans by idealizing the Huxtable family through the use of costume and set design, while perpetuating certain African American stereotypes through acting methods and the non–diegetic laughter of ... It is difficult to find out a unified standard for classification of reality TV programmes' types. In western countries, the most frequently mentioned types of reality TV programme by different scholars are infotainment, docu–soap, lifestyle, reality gameshows, talent competitions, relationship reality TV shows, etc. According to these different classifications and from differences of diverse shows' content and formats, reality TV can be divided into following eight types: Outdoors "Survivor"–style This type is always one of the major types of reality TV. • 9. The use of Radio as a Sound Device in Friday Night Lights "The use of Radio as a Sound Device in Friday Night Lights" One of the most widely noted sound elements of the football film, Friday Night Lights, amongst fans and critics is its frequent use of the Texas–based band, Explosions in the Sky. But I believe there is a more interesting sound element that is just as prominent in the overall soundscape of the film, and that is the use of radio in the film. Radio takes on the form of two identities in this film: a radio talk show as well as live game commentary. Because it is eventually revealed to the audience that both the live game commentator and radio talk show host are the same person, and that both are broadcast as radio content, it is acceptable to group these two factors into the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I only mention my specific experience because I do not wish to make a broad generalization. First I would like to identify who the film includes on its radio broadcasts. There are essentially two types of people featured on the broadcast: the radio talk show host and his co–commentator and his callers. The first use of radio in the film is that of a radio talk show, hosted by "Slam and Sammy," that focuses primarily on the Permian Panthers' football team. Also featured on the show are callers that are most likely from the local community surrounding the support of the Panthers. It is not made clear until halfway through the film at the start of a football game that Slam and Sammy are also the commentators for the football games and that the games are broadcast, most likely on the same radio station. We are made aware of this fact around fifty minutes into the film when we hear, "You're back with mojo radio. It is Slam and Sammy." In trying to detect the difference between the announcers, the voice we hear the most seems to be the main host, while the other voice (it is slightly unclear who is Slam and who is Sammy) seems to be more of a color commentator that allows the lead announcer to do most of the talking. Also, it is worth noting that the radio announcers do not become visually actualized in the film apart from very brief moments viewing them in the press box at the games. Otherwise the audience ... • 10. Informative Essay: The Most Popular Video Game Shows In... Today's game shows have come a long way in the past centuries. They have become more and more popular and entertaining. Some like, "The Price is Right" when it first started in 1956 and has been on since 1972 after being revamped. The show is watched by millions every day and you spin a giant wheel at the end to get into the showcase showdown where you have a chance to win a boat, car, or vacation. Narrative Essay On Basketball Injury I had always assumed that my legs were strong and that I had decent muscle control, however, this thought was proven wrong at the beginning of my junior year in high school due to a detrimental injury. It was the first game of fall league for basketball, and within the first five minutes I had succumbed to an injury. Tearing my ACL and Meniscus has taught me to continue improving on my strength, not let this one injury keep me down, and to keep a positive mindset. Believing that my knee was strong and that it had a great deal of muscle control, I did not think to continuously strengthen it. I relied on the strength my knee had, which inevitably, turned out to be a massive mistake. By tearing the ligament that held my knee together, I was not able to walk on my own for at least two months, I missed out on many events my junior year that kept me busy and made me happy. Some of the events I missed out on were playing in basketball games, doing color guard at football games, competing at state for marching band, and competing at show choir competitions. Tearing my ACL and Meniscus not only taught me to not rely on my morals, but it also taught me to not let this setback keep me down. It is easily said that my junior year of high school was my least favorite year due to my injury. On the surface this may seem like a good equation for success, however after dissecting it, I have found some problems with its validity so far as life experience has taught me. Luck tends to be a mystical topic. The very nature of luck is unpredictable. Some people have it in certain situations, and others don't. So far as I have seen in my life 'luck' is pretty blind in who it chooses. So it would seem to me that creating a formula such as: "preparation+opportunity=luck", isn't the whole story. • 23. Different Types Of Economics Within The Game Show Industry The business that I have chosen for this project is TV Game Shows. Over the next few pages, I will show different types of economics within the game show industry. Cash prizes are paid by the show, and the money comes from the producers, who are paid by the advertisers/network. There can be a couple of "safeguards" that make this a little easier for the shows: – They can have an insurance policy to protect them from huge losses. For example, the insurance company says, we 've studied the odds of your game, and we 'll sell you a policy for $200,000 up front, that pays out full prize money any time someone wins $100,000 or more during this season of the show. Obviously this is all about a smart insurance company who has studied the gameplay and sorted out the odds of how many players will win big, but the point is that the show doesn 't have to worry about it. They can let the insurance company work it out, and the show then has a nice fixed–cost expense they can reliably drop into their production budget and not think about it. – For really big prizes ($1,000,000), shows may pay similar to a lottery, where the money is in a fund that pays over x amount of years, or the winner can take a reduced lump sum immediately. For example, if you were to win $1 million on a show, they might tell you (after the show is done taping) "okay! We can give you $50,000 a year for the next 20 years, or we can pay you $450,000 lump–sum right now and that 's all you get." And of course, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some are run in the more conventional way of just the basic interview for example Parkinson, but others are shown in a more entertaining approach, for example The Kumars at No. 42 and this is due to their target audience. The target audience is who the programme is aimed at and huge factor when considering the target audience is a scheduling time. For example Graham Norton is on weekdays at 10 o'clock and this is a great scheduling time for his audience. It is a good time after the 9 o'clock watershed as Graham Norton attracts a young adult audience due to his adult humour and the guests he has on his show whereas Parkinson is on Saturday evening at around 10.30. This programme is probably aimed more towards older adults, as his style of interviewing is very traditional. Older adults are more likely to be in at this time and will want to watch something before they go to bed whereas a younger audience will watch more television on weekdays, as they will have work the next day. Parkinson is a very popular chat show and has been running for many years. As Parkinson has been in show business for many years, he is now a celebrity himself and has made his fame through interviewing other famous people. We can tell this from the shows ... • 30. Butterfly Circus Essay Recently I watched the short film Butterfly Circus by Joshua Weigel and I was very pleased. Prior to watching the movie, only having read the title I immediately thought this was going to be a cartoon for a young child. As I watched the first scene I shortly realized this was not the case. Weigel introduces a familiar face Nick Vujicic, The Limbless man, a main character in this short film. The film is about the famous showman going to a small circus sideshow and finding the "magnificent" limbless man in a time of anguish while being bullied by the audience and other members of the "freak show". After the limbless man's encounter with the showman he is forced to gain hope against anything negative he has ever believed. This movie opens with the setting in the depression era. A fleet of old cars traveling down a dirt road passing families as they watch the car caravan with sorrowful eyes. Inside the fleet of old cars is the company of the renowned Butterfly Circus on their way to the next town to lift the spirits of their audiences. As they pass a sign for a carnival sideshow, the little boy asks the driver if they can go. The driver answers reluctantly so the little boy ask Mr. Mendez, the famous showman, and he says, "why not". Among the carousel, the fortune teller, and the games they find the show that everyone has come to see. There sits a small tent that is known as "the best freak show in town". In this company of "freaks" there is the Bearded lady, Siamese Twins, Fat ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Hunger Games meets Reality Telling a story that is set in the future gives authors the chance to depict present day issues in a different light. They usually choose to exaggerate them so readers can see how their society might look in the future, especially if they ignore issues that can grow and become problems. In the case of The Hunger Games (HG), the author, Suzanne Collins, explores issues like the huge inequality of wealth and how the power of television can influence our lives. She does this by portraying the HG as an extreme reality game show where teenagers fight to the death. By highlighting some important connections between our worlds, the author shows us that we may be headed to a place very similar to HG universe. These connections are about how tensions are created by the inequality between rich and poor on television, how an external force like the audience drives ratings higher, and how producers do not care about the message they are sending, as long as the audience watches the show. Both reality TV game shows and the HG bring people from different socio–economic backgrounds together to intensify tensions. In shows such as "The House that roared," the producers "cast for conflict to force drama" in reality TV game shows. This friction is usually artificially created because people in the real world might attempt to get along in some way. In shows such as Big Brother, participants are forced to live together, creating tensions that are not proportional to the real world. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Game Shows And The American Dream Quan 1 Jun Quan Dr. Joanne Hall English 1 November 29, 2016 Game Shows and the American Dream The American Dream, while well known by American–born residents and international students and/or immigrants alike, has become harder and harder to define as decades pass. In spite of becoming more ambiguous, the American Dream is still an accessible fantasy to both American citizens and those who want to become citizens. It is a major reason why international students choose to pursue education and careers in America, and why families choose to start new lives here. Nowadays, televised media, specifically reality television and game shows, are some of the most influential factors in shaping how the American dream is perceived; they shift Americans' ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, which cynically depicts the American Dream and highlights some truths that still apply–for example, the false equation of wealth to happiness and satisfaction, as well as the illusion of equal opportunity. Analyzing The Great Gatsby is useful in clarifying essential traits of the American Dream, which we can later use in our evaluation contemporary articulations of it. The novel is aboutJay Gatsby, a man who has risen to wealth and is well–known for his extravagant parties. Though the novel, published in 1925, took place before modern media and advertising, it still depicts characters that have fallen for what Diane Kendall, in "Framing Class, Vicarious Living, and Conspicuous Consumption," calls a "socially constructed reality that is not necessarily an accurate reflection of the United States." The "socially constructed reality" in which the cast of The Great Gatsby lives–geographically, New York in the 1920's–is characterized by an obsession with wealth and success despite an immense poverty gap that was steadily widening. Though often referred to as the "gilded age" in American history, the 20's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Why Do Tv Shows Movies And Video Games Show Too Much Violence The reason as to why I am writing this composition is to inform you and notify you about TV shows, movies and video games and justify to you this question," is it (TV shows, movies and video games) promoting and showing too much violence". Firstly, to make everything I will say logical and understandable, I will break it down into segments and divisions. Inshallah, what I hope to achieve from this composition is for you to understand just what you and your family are receiving from these three categories of entertainment. I shall begin with the TV shows and the movies (since the movies points are really similar to the TV shows, I will combine the two) by talking a little bit about them and then moving on to answering the part of the question that goes with them. It is a shocking reality that everyone you see today knows what a TV is, whether they come from the most destitute society there is or from the most prosperous of them. They all know what a TV is. The term TV is the short form used for the wordtelevision, and it is an electronics device that receives a visual and audible signal and plays it to the viewer, and a show is a spectacle or display of something, typically an impressive one. As for the movie, well it is scarcely different for it is a story or an event recorded by a camera as a set of moving images and shown in a theatre or on television; a motion picture. Now back to the question mentioned near the beginning. For clarification, this question does not have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Thinking Outside The Box Analysis In the last 20 years technology took an important role in our lives and more in the lives of our kids, even in on grownups. Video are an important tool in our lives that if we use it in a right way could help us to improve our intelligence. Base on the articles of "Watching TV Makes You Smarter" by Steven Johnson and "Thinking Outside the Box" by Dana Stevens. I will present my point of view. In the article by Johnson "Watching TV Makes You Smarter", he describes how much tv improved from the '70s. In today's tv we need to be able to pay attention to multiple details on the show, since the narrative is more complicated and realistic to our everyday life. Johnson writes "They have gained in realism. The real world doesn't come in nicely packaged...and we are better off with entertainment like the Sopranos that reflects our fallen state with all its ethical ambiguity". Life is complicated and ambiguous and from that point of view we can get smarter or learn that there is a different behavior in our world. For example, we can see human being are not only sweet and loving, they are ambitious selfish, manipulated creatures and seeing this side, we can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 35. Similarities Between The Hunger Games And The Truman Show To begin this brief explanation of contrast between these pieces of literature/media I need to begin with the main connection between the two. The greatest main theme both of these pieces hold is that of control over people, knowledge, and the media. The main premise of both indicates this for instance Hunger Games is about how a collective government controls the people through fear and the media and enforces this by creating a gladiator battle between the districts for all to watch. In the Truman Show we have the same collective force controlling our main characters world but in the form of a reality tv show director. In both pieces as the entire situation unfolds it is used as entertainment for the masses. The large similarities between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First we start with Truman while not being the most interesting person overall the situation he's placed in makes him a perfect character to dissect and discuss. The main trait show is his drive to become an adventurer to travel past the confines of the world he's trapped inside. I completely agree with his view on his fake world even though it is much safer and ideally perfect I feel as though the freedom of choice of what happens around you outweighs any feeling of security such a place could provide. This is proven by how he reacts after realizing his world is fake after this event his main goal becomes escaping his fake reality. Last we take a look at Katniss from the Hunger Games her main traits I find are a little cliche for the genre of book she resides in ,but nonetheless she has traits to identify. The largest trait portrayed throughout the book is that of tenacity and unrelenting mettle. This is shown time and time again through the book for example she first shows this tenacity when its explained how in the past after her mother became catatonic after her father's death she had to assume the role of caregiver and even through all the adversity she faced she persevered. The drive of hers is best shown in the games as her will to live and bring home prosperity to her family and district allows her never fall into the state of despair and continue on no matter how gruesome the games became. • 36. Chris Hardwick, King Of The Nerds The line between television and the Internet seems to be growing more and more blurred as networks and producers learn to adapt to using online media to grow and capture new audiences. A recent article, "Chris Hardwick, King of the Nerds Is Expanding His Empire" by Lorne Manly in the New York Times features a profile of entertainer Chris Hardwick, who is described as the "model of an entertainment brand for a multiscreen generation" (Manly, par. 5). As a fan of both Chris Hardwick and of geek culture, I found this article to be a fascinating profile of how savvy use of media can allow performers to reach a much wider audience than television alone. Manly's profile article discusses how Hardwick has transitioned from a television personality to a celebrity across multiple forms of media, while continuing to expand into new television ventures. Chris Hardwick went from an obscure MTV game show host and stand–up comedian to a likeable and trusted face of geek culture. He achieves this appeal by keeping true to his roots and interests and adapting to new forms of communication to boost his popularity. After several failed attempts at acting, Hardwick decided to pursue his interest in technology, science fiction, television, comic books and video games through blogging and podcasting, and found that fans related to his likeable approach and genuine enthusiasm for all things nerdy. Hardwick, like his fan base, is very Internet savvy and literate in online culture, and he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Sociological Analysis Of The Regular Show By Jg Quintel The Regular Show is an American surreal/paranormal comedic cartoon created by JG Quintel. It follows the lives of seven employees who work at a local Public Park simply known as "Park" (titled as a proper noun) in an unnamed part of the United States of America. Together, they maintain and manage the park as a public local attraction. In doing so, seemingly normal days somehow always end up with a Twilight Zone–esque paranormal twist, with bits of surreal and situational humor overlaying it to keep it kid–friendly. The show itself is very simple in its premise, though like any television series, it has undertones of basic sociological concepts and dynamics. The seven main characters all contrast very differently in their personalities, while all still sharing similar morals and beliefs, as well as having similar interests and goals. As such, these characters create a perfect setting for sociological concepts to play out through their interactions and conflicts with subtlety. Spanning 8 seasons long, and with 20 – 36 episodes per season, each episode is typically only about 11 minutes long (save the final episode and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 39. Late Night Show Satire Just a few years ago, late night shows were a way for celebrities to promote their new movie, TV series, or music. The host would just conduct light–hearted interviews and harmless, interactive games. Jimmy Kimmel has had guests read hate tweets; James Corden has sang karaoke while driving guest stars; Jimmy Fallon has competed in lip sync battles against guests; SNL has invited guests to temporarily replace Pandora. Now, instead of simple comedy, some hosts are injecting political commentary in their news updates and monologues. Over the last year, late night television ratings have shifted. Fiery shows like "Full Frontal with Samantha Bee" and "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" have seen an influx of viewers; whereas the apolitical "Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon" has begun to decline. TV preferences, show content, and social dynamics have transitioned to be more political, demonstrating that our society is becoming more "tribal," more group oriented. The desire to watch someone with the same opinions as us has encouraged comedians to alter their content. Furthermore, they have become more overt in their beliefs because of the viewers. If viewers did not want to see someone bashing Trump, they would not tune in. But people choose to watch. They want to see someone make fun of Trump.
