Luke 7:36-50 36 And one of the Pharisees desiredhim that he wouldeat
with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat.
Meat: something you (m)eat
Gen 1:29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearingseed,
which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the
fruit of a tree yieldingseed; to you it shall be for meat.
Gen 9:3 Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the
green herb have I given you all things.
Lev 2:1 And when any will offer a meat offeringunto the LORD, his
offeringshall be of fine flour; and he shall pour oil upon it, and put
frankincense thereon:
37 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew
that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of
ointment,
38 And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet
with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his
feet, and anointed them with the ointment.
This will happen twice in Christ’s ministry as does: (John 12 by Mary)
Sermon on the Mount(Mat 6:17)
Temple cleansing
39 Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within
himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, wouldhave known who and
what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.
2. 40 And Jesus answeringsaidunto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say
unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on.
He wanted God to condemn a sinner but not point out his sin.
Luke 5:22 But when Jesus perceivedtheir thoughts, he answeringsaidunto
them, What reason ye in your hearts?
Matt 9:4 And Jesus knowingtheir thoughts said, Wherefore thinkye evil in
your hearts?
Matt 12:25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every
kingdom dividedagainst itself is brought to desolation; and every city or
house divided againstitself shall not stand:
41 There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five
hundredpence, and the other fifty.
42 And when they had nothingto pay, he franklyforgave them both. Tell
me therefore, which of them will love him most?
You must have a bible education direct from Godsword or you will
not grasp the fact that one sin against the Holy God puts you in the
“wicked” class.
Jas 1:27 Pure religion andundefiledbefore God and the Father is this, To
visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself
unspotted from the world.
Jas 4:4 Ye adulterers andadulteresses, know ye not that the friendshipof
the worldis enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the
world is the enemy of God.
John 17:14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them,
because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
Rom 12:2 And be not conformedto this world: but be ye transformed by
the renewingof your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and
acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Gal 1:4 Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this
present evil world, accordingto the will of God and our Father:
3. Gal 6:14 But God forbid that I shouldglory, save in the cross of our Lord
Jesus Christ, by whom the worldis crucifiedunto me, and I unto the world.
Col 3:1-3 1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are
above, where Christsitteth on the right hand of God.
2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christin God.
1John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If
any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
Creditor = Jesus as God
One who owed 500 pence = wicked woman
One who owed 50 Pence = Pharisee
43 Simon answeredand said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most.
And he said unto him, Thou hast rightlyjudged.
Not only did Simon “Judge” but, from Jesus lips Simon judged rightly.
44 And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this
woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet:
but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of
her head.
45 Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath
not ceased to kiss my feet.
46 My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed
my feet with ointment.
47 Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for
she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.
Jas 1:23-25 23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is
like unto a man beholdinghis natural face in a glass:
24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightwayforgetteth
what manner of man he was.
4. 25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth
therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man
shall be blessed in his deed.
Isa 42:24-25 24 Who gave Jacob for a spoil, and Israel to the robbers? did
not the LORD, he against whom we have sinned? for they would not walk
in his ways, neither were they obedient unto his law.
25 Therefore he hath poured upon him the fury of his anger, and the
strength of battle: and it hath set him on fire roundabout, yet he knew not;
and it burned him, yet he laid it not to heart.
Ezek 12:27 Son of man, behold, they of the house of Israel say, The vision
that he seeth is for many days to come, and he prophesieth of the times
that are far off.
Matt 24:38-39 38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were
eating and drinking, marryingand giving in marriage, until the day that
Noe entered into the ark,
39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall
also the coming of the Son of man be.
2Pet 3:4-5 4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since
the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning
of the creation.
5 For this they willinglyare ignorantof, that by the word of God the
heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the
water:
48 And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.
49 And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves,
Who is this that forgiveth sins also?
50 And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.
Simon had faith, but it was misplaced. Your faith is only as good the
one in whom your faith is placed.
5. The Pharisee’s faith is in his own works;
This sinful woman’sfaith was in the sinless Son of God.
Luke 24:47 And that repentance and remission of sins shouldbe preached
in his name among all nations, beginningat Jerusalem.
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other
name under heaven given among men, wherebywe must be saved.
