Great Commission 7

 2. 2. PART SEVEN: THE PERPETUATION: TEACH The five accounts of the Great Commission are in: Matthew 28; Mark 16; Luke 24; John 20; Acts 1.
 3. 3.

The five accounts of the Great Commission are in:

Matthew 28;

Mark 16;

Luke 24;

John 20;

Acts 1.

 4. 4. We have covered six parts of the Great Commission:

The authority behind it: Jesus Christ .

The obligation: Go.

The place: All the world and everyone in it.

The method: Teach.

The message: Hear, believe, repent, confess Christ, and be baptized .

The act of obedience: Immersion.

 5. 5. This lesson deals with “keeping the saved saved.” We perpetuate the gospel through teaching ( Matthew 28:19,20; 2 Timothy 2:2; Acts 2:42 ). There are three categories involved in this part of the Great Commission.
 6. 6. Learn and believe the doctrines of the Bible.

The Bible is God’s perfect word.

We are under the law of Christ.

The Bible is inspired.

Bible authority is essential for all that we do.

 7. 7.

There are three members of the Godhead.

God the Father.

God the Son: Jesus Christ.

God the Holy Spirit.

 8. 8. The New Testament church.

It is not a denomination ( Ephesians 4:4 ).

It is important ( Acts 20:28; Ephesians 5:23 .)

It is part of God’s eternal purpose ( Ephesians 3:10,11 ).

 9. 9.

It is not a denomination Ephesians 4:4 NET There is one body and one Spirit, just as you too were called to the one hope of your calling,

The New Testament church.
 10. 10.

It is important Acts 20:28 NET Watch out for yourselves and for all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church

 11. 11.

of God that he obtained with the blood of his own Son.

 12. 12.

Ephesians 5:23 NET because the husband is the head of the wife as also Christ is the head of the church — he himself being the savior of the body.

 13. 13.

Ephesians 3:10 NET The purpose of this enlightenment is that through the church the multifaceted wisdom

It is part of God’s eternal purpose
 14. 14.

of God should now be disclosed to the rulers and the authorities in the heavenly realms. 11 This was according to the eternal purpose that he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord,

 15. 15. The Bible doctrine of final things.

Death

( Hebrews 9:27 ).

Hades: Paradise and Torment

( Luke 16:19-31 ).

The second coming of Christ

( 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10 ).

 16. 16.

Death

Hebrews 9:27 NET And just as people are appointed to die once, and then to face judgment,

The Bible doctrine of final things.
 17. 17.

Luke 16:19 NET "There was a rich man who dressed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. 20 But at his gate lay a poor man named Lazarus whose body was covered with sores, 21 who longed to eat what fell from the rich man's table.

Hades: Paradise and Torment
 18. 18. Hades: Paradise and Torment

In addition, the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 "Now the poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 And in hell, as he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far off with Lazarus at his side.

 19. 19. Hades: Paradise and Torment

24 So he called out, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in anguish in this fire.' 25 But Abraham said, 'Child, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things and Lazarus likewise bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in anguish.

 20. 20. Hades: Paradise and Torment

26 Besides all this, a great chasm has been fixed between us, so that those who want to cross over from here to you cannot do so, and no one can cross from there to us.' 27 So the rich man said, 'Then I beg you, father — send Lazarus to my father's house 28 (for I have five brothers) to warn them so that they don't come into this place of torment.'

 21. 21. Hades: Paradise and Torment

29 But Abraham said, 'They have Moses and the prophets; they must respond to them.' 30 Then the rich man said, 'No, father Abraham, but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.' 31 He replied to him, 'If they do not respond to Moses and the prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.' "

 22. 22. The second coming of Christ

2 Thessalonians 1:7 NET and to you who are being afflicted to give rest together with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels. 8 With flaming fire he will mete out punishment on those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.

 23. 23. The second coming of Christ

9 They will undergo the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his strength, 10 when he comes to be glorified among his saints and admired on that day among all who have believed — and you did in fact believe our testimony.

 24. 24.

The resurrection ( 1 Corinthians 15 ).

The judgment ( Matthew 25:31-46 ).

Hell ( Matthew 25:30 ).

Heaven ( Matthew 25:23 ).

 25. 25. The resurrection

1 Corinthians 15:1-58 NET Now I want to make clear for you, brothers and sisters, the gospel that I preached to you, that you received and on which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold firmly to the message I preached to you — unless you believed in vain. 3 For I passed on to you as of first importance what I also received — that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures,

 26. 26. The resurrection

4 and that he was buried, and that he was raised on the third day according to the scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 Then he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep.

 27. 27. The resurrection

7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. 8 Last of all, as though to one born at the wrong time, he appeared to me also. 9 For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.

 28. 28. The resurrection

10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me has not been in vain. In fact, I worked harder than all of them — yet not I, but the grace of God with me. 11 Whether then it was I or they, this is the way we preach and this is the way you believed. 12 Now if Christ is being preached as raised from the dead, how can some of you say there is no resurrection of the dead?

 29. 29. The resurrection

13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14 And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is futile and your faith is empty. 15 Also, we are found to be false witnesses about God, because we have testified against God that he raised Christ from the dead, when in reality he did not raise him, if indeed the dead are not raised.

 30. 30. The resurrection

16 For if the dead are not raised, then not even Christ has been raised. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is useless; you are still in your sins. 18 Furthermore, those who have fallen asleep in Christ have also perished. 19 For if only in this life we have hope in Christ, we should be pitied more than anyone.

 31. 31. The resurrection

20 But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead also came through a man. 22 For just as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive. 23 But each in his own order: Christ, the firstfruits; then when Christ comes, those who belong to him.

 32. 32. The resurrection

24 Then comes the end, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father, when he has brought to an end all rule and all authority and power. 25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy to be eliminated is death.

 33. 33. The resurrection

27 For he has put everything in subjection under his feet . But when it says "everything" has been put in subjection, it is clear that this does not include the one who put everything in subjection to him. 28 And when all things are subjected to him, then the Son himself will be subjected to the one who subjected everything to him, so that God may be all in all.

 34. 34. The resurrection

29 Otherwise, what will those do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, then why are they baptized for them? 30 Why too are we in danger every hour? 31 Every day I am in danger of death! This is as sure as my boasting in you, which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord. 32 If from a human point of view I fought with wild beasts at Ephesus, what did it benefit me? If the dead are not raised, let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.

 35. 35. The resurrection

33 Do not be deceived: "Bad company corrupts good morals." 34 Sober up as you should, and stop sinning! For some have no knowledge of God — I say this to your shame! 35 But someone will say, "How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?" 36 F ool! What you sow will not come to life unless it dies.

 36. 36. The resurrection

37 And what you sow is not the body that is to be, but a bare seed — perhaps of wheat or something else. 38 But God gives it a body just as he planned, and to each of the seeds a body of its own. 39 All flesh is not the same: People have one flesh, animals have another, birds and fish another.

 37. 37. The resurrection

40 And there are heavenly bodies and earthly bodies. The glory of the heavenly body is one sort and the earthly another. 41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon and another glory of the stars, for star differs from star in glory. 42 It is the same with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown is perishable, what is raised is imperishable.

 38. 38. The resurrection

43 It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45 So also it is written, " The first man , Adam , became a living person "; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit.

 39. 39. The resurrection

46 However, the spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and then the spiritual. 47 The first man is from the earth, made of dust; the second man is from heaven. 48 Like the one made of dust, so too are those made of dust, and like the one from heaven, so too those who are heavenly.

 40. 40. The resurrection

49 And just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, let us also bear the image of the man of heaven. 50 Now this is what I am saying, brothers and sisters: Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.

 41. 41. The resurrection

51 Listen, I will tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed — 52 in a moment, in the blinking of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality.

 42. 42. The resurrection

54 Now when this perishable puts on the imperishable, and this mortal puts on immortality, then the saying that is written will happen, " Death has been swallowed up in victory . " 55 “ Where , O death , is your victory? Where , O death , is your sting? "

 43. 43. The resurrection

56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ! 58 So then, dear brothers and sisters, be firm. Do not be moved! Always be outstanding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

 44. 44. The judgment

Matthew 25:31-45 NET “When the Son of Man comes in his glory and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be assembled before him, and he will separate people one from another like a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.

 45. 45. The judgment

33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. 34 Then the king will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,

 46. 46. The judgment

36 I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.' 37 Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or naked and clothe you?

 47. 47. The judgment

39 When did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?' 40 And the king will answer them, 'I tell you the truth, just as you did it for one of the least of these brothers or sisters of mine, you did it for me.' 41 "Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire that has been prepared for the devil and his angels!

 48. 48. The judgment

42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink. 43 I was a stranger and you did not receive me as a guest, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.'

 49. 49. The judgment

44 Then they too will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not give you whatever you needed?' 45 Then he will answer them, 'I tell you the truth, just as you did not do it for one of the least of these, you did not do it for me.'

 50. 50.

Hell

Matthew 25:30 NET And throw that worthless slave into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'

 51. 51.

Heaven

Matthew 25:23 NET His master answered, 'Well done, good and faithful slave! You have been faithful with a few things. I will put you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy of your master.'

 52. 52. There are many more important teachings in the Bible, but this summary shows the importance of diligent daily study (see also Psalm 1; 19; 119; 2 Timothy 2:15; 1 Peter 3:15; Acts 17:11; John 5:39 ).
 53. 53. Live a faithful Christian life in thought, word and deed.

Colossians 3:17 NET And whatever you do in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

 54. 54. Live a faithful Christian life in thought, word and deed.

Philippians 4:6-8 NET Do not be anxious about anything. Instead, in every situation, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, tell your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

 55. 55. Live a faithful Christian life in thought, word and deed.

8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of respect, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if something is excellent or praiseworthy, think about these things.

 56. 56. There are teachings about family responsibilities. Study Bible examples of families (good and bad). Ephesians 5:23-6:4 NET because the husband is the head of the wife as also Christ is the head of the church — he himself being the savior of the body. 24 But as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
 57. 57. There are teachings about family responsibilities.

25 Husbands, love your wives just as Christ loved the church and gave himself for her 26 to sanctify her by cleansing her with the washing of the water by the word, 27 so that he may present the church to himself as glorious — not having a stain or wrinkle, or any such blemish, but holy and blameless.

 58. 58. There are teachings about family responsibilities.

28 In the same way husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one has ever hated his own body but he feeds it and takes care of it, just as Christ also does the church, 30 for we are members of his body.

 59. 59. There are teachings about family responsibilities.

31 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and will be joined to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. 32 This mystery is great — but I am actually speaking with reference to Christ and the church. 33 Nevertheless, each one of you must also love his own wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

 60. 60. There are teachings about family responsibilities.

6:1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord for this is right. 2 “ Honor your father and mother , " which is the first commandment accompanied by a promise, namely, 3 " that it may go well with you and that you will live a long time on the earth . " 4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but raise them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

 61. 61. Bible study

This includes family devotions, individual study, Bible classes, and public worship

 62. 62. Hebrews 5:12-14 NET For though you should in fact be teachers by this time, you need someone to teach you the beginning elements of God's utterances. You have gone back to needing milk, not solid food. 13 For everyone who lives on milk is inexperienced in the message of righteousness, because he is an infant. Bible study
 63. 63. Bible study

14 But solid food is for the mature, whose perceptions are trained by practice to discern both good and evil.

1 Peter 2:2 NET And yearn like newborn infants for pure, spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up to salvation,

 64. 64. The Tongue Ephesians 4:17-32 NET So I say this, and insist in the Lord, that you no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. 18 They are darkened in their understanding, being alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardness of their hearts.
 65. 65. The Tongue

19 Because they are callous, they have given themselves over to indecency for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness. 20 But you did not learn about Christ like this, 21 if indeed you heard about him and were taught in him, just as the truth is in Jesus.

 66. 66. The Tongue

22 You were taught with reference to your former way of life to lay aside the old man who is being corrupted in accordance with deceitful desires, 23 to be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and to put on the new man who has been created in God's image — in righteousness and holiness that comes from truth.

 67. 67. The Tongue

25 Therefore, having laid aside falsehood, each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor , for we are members of one another. 26 Be angry and do not sin ; do not let the sun go down on the cause of your anger. 27 Do not give the devil an opportunity.

 68. 68. The Tongue

28 The one who steals must steal no longer; rather he must labor, doing good with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with the one who has need. 29 You must let no unwholesome word come out of your mouth, but only what is beneficial for the building up of the one in need, that it may give grace to those who hear.

 69. 69. The Tongue

30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 You must put away every kind of bitterness, anger, wrath, quarreling, and evil, slanderous talk. 32 Instead, be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ also forgave you.

 70. 70. The Tongue

James 3:1-12 NET Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers and sisters, because you know that we will be judged more strictly. 2 For we all stumble in many ways. If someone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect individual, able to control the entire body as well.

 71. 71. The Tongue

3 And if we put bits into the mouths of horses to get them to obey us, then we guide their entire bodies. 4 Look at ships too: Though they are so large and driven by harsh winds, they are steered by a tiny rudder wherever the pilot's inclination directs.

 72. 72. The Tongue

5 S o too the tongue is a small part of the body, yet it has great pretensions. Think how small a flame sets a huge forest ablaze. 6 And the tongue is a fire! The tongue represents the world of wrongdoing among the parts of our bodies. It pollutes the entire body and sets fire to the course of human existence — and is set on fire by hell.

 73. 73. The Tongue

7 For every kind of animal, bird, reptile, and sea creature is subdued and has been subdued by humankind. 8 But no human being can subdue the tongue; it is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless the Lord and Father, and with it we curse people made in God's image.

 74. 74. The Tongue

10 From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. These things should not be so, my brothers and sisters. 11 A spring does not pour out fresh water and bitter water from the same opening, does it? 12 Can a fig tree produce olives, my brothers and sisters, or a vine produce figs? Neither can a salt water spring produce fresh water.

 75. 75. Our deeds for others

James 1:21-2:26 NET So put away all filth and evil excess and humbly welcome the message implanted within you, which is able to save your souls. 22 But be sure you live out the message and do not merely listen to it and so deceive yourselves. 23 For if someone merely listens to the message and does not live it out, he is like someone who gazes at his own face in a mirror.

 76. 76. Our deeds for others

24 For he gazes at himself and then goes out and immediately forgets what sort of person he was. 25 But the one who peers into the perfect law of liberty and fixes his attention there, and does not become a forgetful listener but one who lives it out — he will be blessed in what he does.

 77. 77. Our deeds for others

26 If someone thinks he is religious yet does not bridle his tongue, and so deceives his heart, his religion is futile. 27 Pure and undefiled religion before God the Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their misfortune and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

 78. 78. Our deeds for others

2:1 My brothers and sisters, do not show prejudice if you possess faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ. 2 For if someone comes into your assembly wearing a gold ring and fine clothing, and a poor person enters in filthy clothes, 3 do you pay attention to the one who is finely dressed and say, "You sit here in a good place," and to the poor person, "You stand over there," or "Sit on the floor"?

 79. 79. Our deeds for others

4 If so, have you not made distinctions among yourselves and become judges with evil motives? 5 Listen, my dear brothers and sisters! Did not God choose the poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom that he promised to those who love him?

 80. 80. Our deeds for others

6 But you have dishonored the poor! Are not the rich oppressing you and dragging you into the courts? 7 Do they not blaspheme the good name of the one you belong to? 8 But if you fulfill the royal law as expressed in this scripture, " You shall love your neighbor as yourself ," you are doing well.

 81. 81. Our deeds for others

9 But if you show prejudice, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as violators. 10 For the one who obeys the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it. 11 For he who said, " Do not commit adultery ," also said, " Do not murder ." Now if you do not commit adultery but do commit murder, you have become a violator of the law.

 82. 82. Our deeds for others

12 Speak and act as those who will be judged by a law that gives freedom. 13 For judgment is merciless for the one who has shown no mercy. But mercy triumphs over judgment. 14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but does not have works? Can this kind of faith save him?

 83. 83. Our deeds for others

15 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacks daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, keep warm and eat well," but you do not give them what the body needs, what good is it? 17 So also faith, if it does not have works, is dead being by itself.

 84. 84. Our deeds for others

18 But someone will say, "You have faith and I have works." Show me your faith without works and I will show faith by my works. 19 You believe that God is one; well and good. Even the demons believe that — and tremble with fear. 20 But would you like evidence, you empty fellow, that faith without works is useless?

 85. 85. 95. 95. Regular worship with the saints

26 For if we deliberately keep on sinning after receiving the knowledge of the truth, no further sacrifice for sins is left for us, 27 but only a certain fearful expectation of judgment and a fury of fire that will consume God's enemies.

 101. 101. Christian fellowship

9 By this the love of God is revealed in us: that God has sent his one and only Son into the world so that we may live through him. 10 In this is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.

 102. 102. Christian fellowship

11 Dear friends, if God so loved us, then we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has seen God at any time. 106. 106. Christian fellowship

20 If anyone says "I love God" and yet hates his fellow Christian, he is a liar, because the one who does not love his fellow Christian whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. 21 And the commandment we have from him is this: that the one who loves God should love his fellow Christian too.
